Effects of acupuncture on hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal axis:Current status and future perspectives

The hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal(HPA) axis is a critical component of the neuroendocrine system,playing a central role in regulating the body's stress response and modulating various physiological processes. Dysregulation of HPA axis function disrupts the neuroendocrine equilibrium, resulting in impaired physiological functions. Acupuncture is recognized as a non-pharmacological type of therapy which has been confirmed to play an important role in modulating the HPA axis and thus favorably targets diseases with abnormal activation of the HPA axis. With numerous studies reporting the promising efficacy of acupuncture for neuroendocrine disorders, a comprehensive review in terms of the underlying molecular mechanism for acupuncture, especially in regulating the HPA axis, is currently in need. This review fills the need and summarizes recent breakthroughs, from the basic principles and the pathological changes of HPA axis dysfunction, to the molecular mechanisms by which acupuncture regulates the HPA axis. These mechanisms include the modulation of multiple neurotransmitters and their receptors, neuropeptides and their receptors, and microRNAs in the paraventricular nucleus,hippocampus, amygdala and pituitary gland, which alleviate the hyperfunctioning of the HPA axis.This review comprehensively summarizes the mechanism of acupuncture in regulating HPA axis dysfunction for the first time, providing new targets and prospects for further exploration of acupuncture.Please cite this article as: Zheng JY, zhu J, Wang Y, tian ZZ. CO_(2)flooding in shale oil reservoir with radial borehole fracturing for CO_(2)storage and enhanced oil recovery

This study introduces a novel method integrating CO_(2)flooding with radial borehole fracturing for enhanced oil recovery and CO_(2)underground storage,a solution to the limited vertical stimulation reservoir volume in horizontal well fracturing.A numerical model is established to investigate the production rate,reservoir pressure field,and CO_(2)saturation distribution corresponding to changing time of CO_(2)flooding with radial borehole fracturing.A sensitivity analysis on the influence of CO_(2)injection location,layer spacing,pressure difference,borehole number,and hydraulic fractures on oil production and CO_(2)storage is conducted.The CO_(2)flooding process is divided into four stages.Reductions in layer spacing will significantly improve oil production rate and gas storage capacity.However,serious gas channeling can occur when the spacing is lower than 20 m.Increasing the pressure difference between the producer and injector,the borehole number,the hydraulic fracture height,and the fracture width can also increase the oil production rate and gas storage rate.Sensitivity analysis shows that layer spacing and fracture height greatly influence gas storage and oil production.Research outcomes are expected to provide a theoretical basis for the efficient development of shale oil reservoirs in the vertical direction.

New method for multibody dynamics based on unknown constraint force

This paper presents a new method for the dynamics of multibody systems based on unknown constraint force. The method can uniformly solve multibody systems with typical configurations, including the system with rigid-flexible coupling, the system in tree topology, and the system with loop constraints. Unlike common methods, the proposed method can model the loop system without “cutting off” loop constraints, leading to the exact same modelling process as the tree-like system performs. Based on graph theory, a topological record matrix M_(rec) is proposed to capture the arbitrary system configuration. Moreover, constraint forces are selected as the key variables in semi-recursive framework. With the recursive kinematics relationship between adjacent bodies, the constraint force equation is further assembled to achieve the full-state system solution. The numerical simulations demonstrate the accuracy of the proposed method.

Metal ions participate in many metabolic processes in the human body,and their homeostasis is crucial for life.In cardiovascular diseases(CVDs),the equilibriums of metal ions are frequently interrupted,which are related to a variety of disturbances of physiological processes leading to abnormal cardiac functions.Exogenous supplement of metal ions has the potential to work as therapeutic strategies for the treatment of CVDs.Compared with other therapeutic drugs,metal ions possess broad availability,good stability and safety and diverse drug delivery strategies.The delivery strategies of metal ions are important to exert their ther-apeutic effects and reduce the potential toxic side effects for cardiovascular applications,which are also receiving increasing attention.Controllable local delivery strategies for metal ions based on various biomaterials are constantly being designed.In this review,we comprehensively summarized the positive roles of metal ions in the treatment of cVDs from three aspects:protecting cells from oxidative stress,inducing angiogenesis,and adjusting the functions of ion channels.In addition,we introduced the transferability of metal ions in vascular reconstruction and cardiac tissue repair,as well as the currently available engineered strategies for the precise delivery of metal ions,such as integrated with nanoparticles,hydrogels and scaffolds.

Prognostic factors associated with gastrointestinal dysfunction after gastrointestinal tumor surgery:A meta-analysis

BACKGROUND Explore the risk factors of gastrointestinal dysfunction after gastrointestinal tumor surgery and to provide evidence for the prevention and intervention of gastrointestinal dysfunction in patients with gastrointestinal tumor surgery.AIM To investigate the potential risk factors for gastrointestinal dysfunction following gastrointestinal tumor surgery and to present information supporting the prevention and management of gastrointestinal dysfunction in surgery patients.METHODS Systematically searched the relevant literature from PubMed,Web of Science,Cochrane Library,Embase,CNKI,China Biomedical Database,Wanfang Database,and Weipu Chinese Journal Database self-established until October 1,2022.Review Manager 5.3 software was used for meta-analysis after two researchers independently screened literature,extracted data,and evaluated the risk of bias in the included studies.RESULTS A total of 23 pieces of literature were included,the quality of which was medium or above,and the total sample size was 43878.The results of meta-analysis showed that the patients were male(OR=1.58,95%CI:1.25-2.01,P=0.002)and≥60 years old(OR=2.60,95%CI:1.76-2.87,P<0.001),physical index≥25.3 kg/m2(OR=1.6,95%CI:1.00-1.12,P=0.040),smoking history(OR=1.89,95%CI:1.31-2.73,P<0.001),chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(OR=1.49,95%CI:1.22-1.83,P<0.001),enterostomy(OR=1.47,95%CI:1.26-1.70,P<0.001),history of abdominal surgery(OR=2.90,95%CI:1.67-5.03,P<0.001),surgical site(OR=1.2,95%CI:1.40-2.62,P<0.001),operation method(OR=1.68,95%CI:1.08-2.62,P=0.020),operation duration(OR=2.65,95%CI:1.92-3.67,P<0.001),abdominal adhesion grade(OR=2.52,95%CI:1.90-3.56,P<0.001),postoperative opioid history(OR=5.35,95%CI:3.29-8.71,P<0.001),tumor TNM staging(OR=2.58,95%CI:1.84-3.62,P<0.001),postoperative blood transfusion(OR=2.92,95%CI:0.88-9.73,P=0.010)is a risk factor for postoperative gastrointestinal dysfunction in patients with gastrointestinal tumors.CONCLUSION There are many factors affecting gastrointestinal dysfunction in gastrointestinal patients

Parsing Objects at a Finer Granularity: A Survey

Fine-grained visual parsing, including fine-grained part segmentation and fine-grained object recognition, has attracted considerable critical attention due to its importance in many real-world applications, e.g., agriculture, remote sensing, and space technologies. Predominant research efforts tackle these fine-grained sub-tasks following different paradigms, while the inherent relations between these tasks are neglected. Moreover, given most of the research remains fragmented, we conduct an in-depth study of the advanced work from a new perspective of learning the part relationship. In this perspective, we first consolidate recent research and benchmark syntheses with new taxonomies. Based on this consolidation, we revisit the universal challenges in fine-grained part segmentation and recognition tasks and propose new solutions by part relationship learning for these important challenges. Furthermore, we conclude several promising lines of research in fine-grained visual parsing for future research.

A prognostic four-gene signature and a therapeutic strategy for hepatocellular carcinoma:Construction and analysis of a circRNA-mediated competing endogenous RNA network

Background:Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)has a poor long-term prognosis.The competition of circular RNAs(circRNAs)with endogenous RNA is a novel tool for predicting HCC prognosis.Based on the alterations of circRNA regulatory networks,the analysis of gene modules related to HCC is feasible.Methods:Multiple expression datasets and RNA element targeting prediction tools were used to construct a circRNA-microRNA-mRNA network in HCC.Gene function,pathway,and protein interaction analyses were performed for the differentially expressed genes(DEGs)in this regulatory network.In the proteinprotein interaction network,hub genes were identified and subjected to regression analysis,producing an optimized four-gene signature for prognostic risk stratification in HCC patients.Anti-HCC drugs were excavated by assessing the DEGs between the low-and high-risk groups.A circRNA-microRNA-hub gene subnetwork was constructed,in which three hallmark genes,KIF4A,CCNA2,and PBK,were subjected to functional enrichment analysis.Results:A four-gene signature(KIF4A,CCNA2,PBK,and ZWINT)that effectively estimated the overall survival and aided in prognostic risk assessment in the The Cancer Genome Atlas(TCGA)cohort and International Cancer Genome Consortium(ICGC)cohort was developed.CDK inhibitors,PI3K inhibitors,HDAC inhibitors,and EGFR inhibitors were predicted as four potential mechanisms of drug action(MOA)in high-risk HCC patients.Subsequent analysis has revealed that PBK,CCNA2,and KIF4A play a crucial role in regulating the tumor microenvironment by promoting immune cell invasion,regulating microsatellite instability(MSI),and exerting an impact on HCC progression.Conclusions:The present study highlights the role of the circRNA-related regulatory network,identifies a four-gene prognostic signature and biomarkers,and further identifies novel therapy for HCC.

Design method and experimental study of a cathode tool with an extremely high leveling ratio for electrochemical machining of blisk

To obtain final parts with the desired dimensional accuracy and repeatability via electrochemical machining(ECM), the machining process must enter an ECM balanced state. However,for the ECM processing of blisk, a key component of aerospace engines, the surface of the blade blank often has an uneven allowance distribution due to the narrow passage of the cascade. It is difficult to remedy this issue in subsequent processing steps, which is necessary to ensure the dimensional accuracy and repeatability of the final blade profile. To solve this problem, electrolytic machining must be preceded by electrolytic shaping, which requires cathode tools with large leveling ratios to quickly homogenize the blank surface of the blade. In this study, to obtain a cathode tool with an extremely high leveling ratio, a design method based on the variation in the electrode gap in the non-equilibrium electrolytic state is proposed, and a dissolution model based on the nonequilibrium state is established. In this design method, the allowance on the blank to be machined is first divided into many discrete allowances with the normal direction. The initial machining clearance, feed rate, and total machining time are then calculated using classical ECM equilibrium state theory based on the maximum allowance. Meanwhile, the point coordinates of the cathode tool at maximum allowance can be determined. The non-equilibrium model can then be used to calculate the relative coordinate positions corresponding to the remaining discrete allowances. Finally, the entire cathode tool profile is designed. Simulations, fundamental experiments, and blisk unit workpiece experiments were carried out to validate the design approach. In the simulated processing of the plane workpiece, the leveling ratio of the cathode tool designed by the proposed method(0.77)was 83% higher than that of the cathode tool designed using the traditional method. Performance and mechanism of La-Fe metal-organic framework as a highly efficient adsorbent for fluoride removal from mine water

Water fluoride pollution has caused non-negligible harm to the environment and humans,and thus it is crucial to find a suitable treatment technology.In this study,La-Fe@PTA adsorbent was synthesized for the defluoridation of mine water.The results showed that the optimum conditions for defluoridation by La-Fe@PTA were p H close to 7.0,the initial F-concentration of 10 mg/L,the dosage of 0.5 g/L and the adsorption time of 240 min.Compared with SO_4^(2-),Cl^(-),NO_(3)^(-),Ca^(2+)and Mg^(2+),CO_(3)^(2-)and HCO_(3)^(-)presented severer inhibition on fluoride uptake by La-Fe@PTA.The adsorption process fits well with the pseudo-second-order kinetic model and Freundlich model,and the maximum adsorption capacity of Langmuir model was 95 mg/g.Fixed-bed adsorption results indicated that fluoride in practical fluorinated mine water could be effectively removed from 3.6 mg/L to less than 1.5 mg/L within130 bed volume(BV)by using 1.5 g La-Fe@PTA.Furthermore,the adsorbent still had good adsorption capacity after regeneration,which confirms the great application potential of La-Fe@PTA as a fluoride ion adsorbent.The mechanism analysis showed that La-Fe@PTA adsorption of fluorine ions is a physicochemical reaction driven by electrostatic attraction and ion exchange.

Research on blade tip clearance cavitation and turbulent kinetic energy characteristics of axial flow pump based on the partially-averaged Navier-Stokes model

To reveal the cavitation forms of tip leakage vortex(TLV)of the axial flow pump and the flow mechanism of the flow field,this research adopts the partially-averaged Navier-Stokes(PANS)model to simulate the cavitation values of an axial flow pump,followed by experimental validation.The experimental result shows that compared with the shear stress transport(SST)k-ωmodel,the PANS model significantly reduces the eddy viscosity of the flow field to make the vortex structure clearer and allow the turbulence scale to be more robustly analyzed.The cavitation area within the axial flow pump mainly comprises of TLV cavitation,clearance cavitation and tip leakage flows combined effect of triangular cloud cavitation formed.The formation and development of cavitation are accompanied by the formation and evolution of vortex,and variations in vortex structure also generate and promote the development of cavitation.In addition,an in-depth analysis of the relationship between the turbulent kinetic energy(TKE)transport equation and cavitation patterns was also conducted,finding that the regions with relatively high TKE are mainly distributed around gas/liquid boundaries with serious cavitation and evident gas-liquid change.This phenomenon is mainly attributed to the combined effect of the pressure action term,stress diffusion term and TKE production term.
