Effects of welding parameters and post-heat treatment on mechanical properties of friction stir welded AA2195-T8 Al-Li alloy

In this study, the effects of main welding parameters （rotation speed （ω） and welding speed （υ）） on the microstructure, micro-hardness distribution and tensile properties of friction stir welded （FsW） 2195-T8 Al-Li alloy were investigated. The effects of T6 post-treatments at different solution and aging conditions on the mechanical properties and microstructure characteristics of the FsW joints were also investigated. The results show that with increasing to and v, both strength and elongation of the joints increase first, and then decrease with further increase of ω and υ. All the joints under varied welding parameters show significant strength loss, and the strength reaches only 65% of the base metal, The effect of T6 post-heat treatment on the mechanical properties of the joints depends on the solution and aging conditions. Two heat treatment processes （480 ℃×0.5 h quenching＋ 180 ℃× 12 h, 520 ℃× 0.5 h quenching＋ 180 ℃×12h aging） are found to increase the joint strength. Furthermore, low temperature quenching （480℃） is more beneficial to the joint strength. The joint strength can reach 85% of the base metal. Whereas both low temperature aging （140 ℃× 56h） and stepped aging （ 100 ℃× 12 h ＋ 180 ℃× 3 h） processes decrease the joint strength. After heat treatment all the joints show decreased ductility due to the obvious grain coarsening in the nugget zone （NZ） and thermo-mechanically affected zone （TMAZ）.

A nanostructured copper telluride thin film grown at room temperature by an electrodeposition method

Copper telluride onion flower like microstructures, constructed by quantum dots with various diameters, were obtained by a potentiostatic electrodeposition method at room temperature. The structural, optical, surface morphology, compositional analysis and Raman spectra properties of the deposited films have been studied using X-ray diffraction, optical absorption with scanning electron microscopy, EDAX, and Raman spectroscopy, The electrolyte concentration and deposition time can be used to control the diameter of the electrodeposited quantum dots to within a range of 50-55 nm. The films are found to be stoichiometric in composition. The optical constants such as the optical band gap energy and the optical absorption spectra show significant variation in their values with a change in deposition time. Upon deposition time the band gap energy increased from a value of 2.74 to 2.89 eV.

Deformation behavior of laser bending of circular sheet metal

The application of a thermal source in non-contact forming of sheet metal has long been used. However, the replacement of this thermal source with a laser beam promises much greater controllability of the process. This yields a process with strong potential for application in aerospace, shipbuilding, automobile, and manufacturing industries, as well as the rapid manufacturing of prototypes and adjustment of misaligned components. Forming is made possible through laser-induced non-uniform thermal stresses. In this letter, we use the geometrical transition from rectangular to circle-shaped specimen and ring-shaped specimen to observe the effect of geometry on deformation in laser forming. We conduct a series of experiments on a wide range of specimen geometries. The reasons for this behavior are also analyzed. Experimental results are compared with simulated values using the software ABAQUs. The utilization of line energy is found to be higher in the case of laser forming along linear irradiation than along curved ones. We also analyze the effect of strain hindrance. The findings of the study may be useful for the inverse problem, which involves acquiring the process parameters for a known target shape of a wide range of complex shape geometries.

The intent of this paper is to schedule short-term hydrothermal system probabilistically considering stochastic operating cost curves for thermal power generation units and uncertainties in load demand and reservoir water inflows. Therefore, the stochastic multi-objective hydrothermal generation scheduling problem is formulated with explicit recognition of uncertainties in the system production cost coefficients and system load, which are treated as random variable. Fuzzy methodology has been exploited for solving a decision making problem involving multiplicity of objectives and selection criterion for best compromised solution. A real-coded genetic algorithm with arithmetic-average-bound-blend crossover and wavelet mutation operator is applied to solve short-term variable-head hydrothermal scheduling problem. Initial feasible solution has been obtained by implementing the random heuristic search. The search is performed within the operating generation limits. Equality constraints that satisfy the demand during each time interval are considered by introducing a slack thermal generating unit for each time interval. Whereas the equality constraint which satisfies the consumption of available water to its full extent for the whole scheduling period is considered by introducing slack hydro generating unit for a particular time interval. Operating limit violation by slack hydro and slack thermal generating unit is taken care using exterior penalty method. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated on two sample systems.

Purpose： The main goal of this study is to discover the scientific evolution of Cancer-Related symptoms in Complementary and Alternative Medicine research area, analyzing the articles indexed in the Web of science database from 1980 to ***/Methodology/Approach： A co-word science mapping analysis is performed under a longitudinal framework（1980 to 2013）. The documental corpus is divided into two subperiods,1980–2008 and 2009–2013. Thus, the performance and impact rates, and conceptual evolution of the research field are ***： According to the results, the co-word analysis allows us to identify 12 main thematic areas in this emerging research field： anxiety, survivors and palliative care,meditation, treatment, symptoms and cancer types, postmenopause, cancer pain, low back pain, herbal medicine, children, depression and insomnia, inflammation mediators, and lymphedema. The different research lines are identified according to the main thematic areas,centered fundamentally on anxiety and suffering prevention. The scientific community can use this information to identify where the interest is focused and make decisions in different *** limitation： several limitations can be addressed： 1） some of the Complementary and Alternative Medicine therapies may not have been included; 2） only the documents indexed in Web of science are analyzed; and 3） the thematic areas detected could change if another dataset was *** implications： The results obtained in the present study could be considered as an evidence-based framework in which future studies could be ***/value： Currently, there are no studies that show the thematic evolution of this research area.

Use of silica nanopowder to accelerate CO_2 sorption by Ca(OH)_2

Promising technologies have recently emerged to capture CO2 from postcombustion flue gas and to enhance the production of hydrogen from natural gas by steam-methane reforming, on the basis of sorp- tion of CO2 by Ca-based powders. The rate of CO2 sorption on Ca-based powders is limited by both carbonation kinetics and transport of CO2 to unreacted sorption sites. Ca-based powders may exhibit cohesive aggregation, thus hindering gas-solids contact efficiency. In our work, we tested the sorption rate of powder samples prepared by dry mixing of a cohesive Ca（OH）2 powder with a silica nanopowder used as additive. The silica nanopowder serves to improve the dispersibility of Ca（OH）2. Consequently, when a CO2 enriched gas and the modified sorbent are brought into contact, the rate of CO2 sorption is enhanced in the initial fast phase of interest for practical applications.

Effect of wood dust type on mechanical properties, wear behavior, biodegradability, and resistance to natural weathering of wood-plastic composites

The present work reports the inclusion of different proportions of Mango/sheesham/Mahogany/Babool dust to polypropylene for improving mechanical,wear behavior and biodegradability of wood-plastic composite(WPC).The wood dust(10%,15%,20%by weight)was mixed with polypropylene granules and WPCs were prepared using an injection molding *** mechanical,wear,and morphological characterizations of fabricated WPCs were carried out using standard AsTM methods,pin on disk apparatus,and scanning electron microscopy(sEM),***,the biodegradability and resistance to natural weathering of WPCs were evaluated following AsTM D5338-11 and AsTM D1435-99,*** WPCs consisting ofBabool and sheesham dust were having superior mechanical properties whereas the WPCs consisting of Mango and Mahogany were more wear *** was found that increasing wood powder proportion results in higher Young's modulus,lesser wear rate,and decreased stress at *** WPCs made of sheesham dust were least *** was noticed that the biodegradability corresponds with resistance to natural weathering;more biodegradable WPCs were having the lesser resistance to natural weathering.

Electro-osmotic flow of a second-grade fluid in a porous microchannel subject to an AC electric field

studies on electro-osmotic flows of various types of fluids in microchannel are of great importance owing to their multifold applications in the transport of liquids, particularly when the ionized liquid flows with respect to a charged surface in the presence of an external electric field. In the case of viscoelastic fluids, the volumetric flow rate differs significantly from that of Newtonian fluids, even when the flow takes place under the same pressure gradient and the same electric field. With this end in view, this paper is devoted to a study concerning the flow pattern of an electro-osmotic flow in a porous microchannel, which is under the action of an alternating electric field. The influence of various rheological and electro-osmotic parameters, e.g., the Reynolds number, Debye-Huckel parameter, shape factor and fluid viscoelasticity on the kinematics of the fluid, has been investigated for a secondgrade viscoelastic fluid. The problem is first treated by using analytical methods, but the quantitative estimates are obtained numerically with the help of the software MATHEMATICA. The results presented here are applicable to the cases where the channel height is much greater than the thickness of the electrical double layer comprising the stern and diffuse layers. The study reveals that a larger value of the Debye-Huckel parameter creates sharper profile near the wall and also that the velocity of electro-osmotic flow increases as the permeability of the porous microchannel is enhanced. The study further shows that the electro-osmotic flow dominates at lower values of Reynolds number. The results presented here will be quite useful to validate the observations of experimental investigations on the characteristics of electro-osmotic flows and also the results of complex numerical models that are necessary to deal with more realistic situations, where electro-osmotic flows come into the picture, as in blood flow in the micro-circulatory system subject to an elect
