Oxygen(O_(2))-sensing matrices are promising tools for the live monitoring of extracellular O_(2) consumption levels in long-term cell *** this study,ratiometric O_(2)-sensing membranes were prepared by electrospinning,an easy,low-cost,scalable,and robust method for fabricating ***(ε-caprolactone)and poly(dimethyl)siloxane polymers were blended with tris(4,7-diphenyl-1,10-phenanthroline)ruthenium(II)dichloride,which was used as the O_(2)-sensing probe,and rhodamine B isothiocyanate,which was used as the reference *** functionalized scaffolds were morphologically characterized by scanning electron microscopy,and their physicochemical profiles were obtained by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy,thermogravimetric analysis,and water contact angle *** sensing capabilities were investigated by confocal laser scanning microscopy,performing photobleaching,reversibility,and calibration curve studies toward different dissolved O_(2)(DO)*** sensing nanofibers showed a high response to changes in DO concentrations in the physiological-pathological range from 0.5%to 20%and good stability under ratiometric *** addition,the sensing systems were highly biocompatible for cell growth promoting adhesiveness and growth of three cancer cell lines,namely metastatic melanoma cell line sK-MEl2,breast cancer cell line MCF-7,and pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma cell line Panc-1,thus recreating a suitable biological environment in *** O_(2)-sensing biomaterials can potentially measure alterations in cell metabolism caused by changes in ambient O_(2)content during drug testing/validation and tissue regeneration processes.

The mechanical response of a single crystal titanium sample against(0001)α surface impact was investigated using molecular dynamics ***,non-uniform plastic deformation was observed in the *** high strain rates,amorphization occurred near the edge of the contact region where severe shear strain induced a large number of stacking faults(sFs)and *** contrast,the central part of the contact region underwent less deformation with significantly fewer ***,instead of amorphization by consuming sFs and dislocations,there was a gradual increase in the density of dislocations and sFs during the process of *** local amorphous regions eventually grew into shear bands.

Magnesium is an excellent material in terms of biocompatibility and its corrosion products can serve as an active source for new bone ***,localized corrosion and H_(2)generation limit the potential of Mg-based *** low-alloyed Mg-Zn wires can strongly reduce problems with large H_(2)bubbles and improve the mechanical properties considerably while maintaining excellent long-term *** pickling and a polymer coating can be effectively used to lower the rate of in vivo *** this work,microstructural,mechanical,and in vitro characterization of 250μm and 300μm extruded wires made from ultra-pure Mg,commercially pure Mg,Mg-0.15Zn,Mg-0.4Zn and Mg-1Zn was ***,Mg-0.4Zn wires together with a variant coated with a copolymer of l-lactide andε-caprolactone were tested in vivo on artificially damaged Wistar rat *** on the observed Mg-induced osteogenesis,polymer-coated Mg wires with a small addition of Zn are a perspective material for bone-support applications,such as cerclage and fixation wires.

Hybrid robust fault detection and isolation of satellite reaction wheel actuators

Enhancing production monitoring: A back allocation methodology to estimate well flow rates and assist well test scheduling

Production flow rates are crucial to make operational decisions, monitor, manage, and optimize oil and gas fields. Flow rates also have a financial importance to correctly allocate production to fiscal purposes required by regulatory agencies or to allocate production in fields owned by multiple operators. Despite its significance, usually only the total field production is measured in real time, which requires an alternative way to estimate wells' production. To address these challenges, this work presents a back allocation methodology that leverages real-time instrumentation, simulations, algorithms, and mathematical programming modeling to enhance well monitoring and assist in well test scheduling. The methodology comprises four modules: simulation, classification, error calculation, and optimization. These modules work together to characterize the flowline, wellbore, and reservoir, verify simulation outputs, minimize errors, and calculate flow rates while honoring the total platform flow rate. The well status generated through the classification module provides valuable information about the current condition of each well (i.e. if the well is deviating from the latest well test parameters), aiding in decision-making for well testing scheduling and prioritizing. The effectiveness of the methodology is demonstrated through its application to a representative offshore oil field with 14 producing wells and two years of daily production data. The results highlight the robustness of the methodology in properly classifying the wells and obtaining flow rates that honor the total platform flow rate. Furthermore, the methodology supports well test scheduling and provides reliable indicators for well conditions. By utilizing real-time data and advanced modeling techniques, this methodology enhances production monitoring and facilitates informed operational decision-making in the oil and gas industry. Inflow and outflow permeability tests in a very soft clay under low stresses

In situ inflow and outflow permeability tests with the BAT probe at sarapuíII soft clay test site are presented.A description of the BAT permeability test is provided,discussing its advantages and shortcomings,especially in the case of very soft clays under low *** pressures were monitored during probe installation and were found to be slightly lower than piezocone u2 pore pressures,consistent with the position of the *** role of filter tip saturation was investigated after the usual saturation procedure provided an unsatisfactory pore pressure response during probe *** show that the vacuum saturation procedure provides adequate response during installation and increases the reliability of the coefficient of permeability determination in early *** inflow and outflow tests yielded similar results,indicating that careful execution of the test can lead to good test repeatability regardless of the loading *** sequences of alternated inflow and outflow tests have yielded similar results,indicating that soil reconsolidation and filter clogging were negligible in the tests *** are presented concerning the relationship between index parameters and the in situ coefficient of permeability for sarapuíII clay,which plot outside the range of existing databases.

The logically consistent relationship between cladograms and synapomorphies

Here I explore the biological relevance, origin and meaning of the concept of cladogram (rooted, directed branching diagramsrepresentingthehypothesizedphylogeneticrelationshipsamongtheterminaltaxaunderstudy)andarguethat cladogramsdonotnecessarilyentailsynapomorphies,butsynapomorphiesarerequiredtotestandultimatelyfalsify cladograms. Both cladograms and synapomorphies are required to achieve phylogenetic explanation. I conclude that within aphylogenetic,scientificcontext,testabilityreferstothelogicalrelationshipamongcladograms(hypotheses),synapomorphies (evidence), and background knowledge (descent with modification). It is the relationship between evidence and hypothesis that underlies a logically consistent relationship between synapomorphies and cladograms. The capacity of a given cladogram, as a hypothesis, to explain synapomorphies complements this relationship and conforms phylogenetic explanation.

Throughout the sMIlE mission the satellite will be bombarded by radiation which gradually damages the focal plane devices and degrades their *** order to understand the changes of the CCD370s within the soft X-ray Imager,an initial characterisation of the devices has been carried out to give a baseline performance *** CCDs have been characterised,the two flight devices and the flight spa *** has been carried out at the Open University in a bespo ke cleanroom measure ment *** results show that there is a cluster of bright pixels in the flight spa re which increases in size with tempe *** at the nominal ope rating tempe rature(-120℃) it is within the procure ment ***,the devices meet the specifications when ope rating at -120℃ in 6 × 6 binned frame transfer science *** se rial charge transfer inefficiency degrades with temperature in full frame *** any charge losses are recovered when binning/frame transfer is implemented.
