Ant-nest-inspired porous structure for MXene composites with high-performance energy-storage and actuating multifunctions

Integrating energy-storage devices(supercapacitors)and shape-deformation devices(actuators)advances the miniaturization and multifunctional development of soft ***,soft robots necessitate supercapacitors with high energy-storage performance and actuators with excellent actuation ***,inspired by ant nests,we present a porous structure fabricated by MXene-graphene-methylcellulose(M-GMC)composite,which overcomes the self-stacking of MXene nanosheets and offers a larger specific surface *** porous structure provides more channels and active sites for electrolyte ions,resulting in high energy storage *** areal capacitance of the M-GMC electrode reaches up to 787.9 mF·cm^(−2),significantly superior to that of the pristine MXene electrode(449.1 mF·cm^(−2)).Moreover,the M-GMC/polyethylene bilayer composites with energy storage and multi-responsive actuation functions are *** M-GMC is used as the electrode and the polyethylene is used as the encapsulation layer of the quasi-solid-state ***,the actuators fabricated by the bilayer composites can be driven by light or low voltage(≤9 V).The maximum bending curvature is up to 5.11 cm^(−1).Finally,a smart gripper and a fully encapsulated smart integrated circuit based on the M-GMC/polyethylene are *** smart gripper enables programmable control with multi-stage *** applications realize the intelligence and miniaturization of soft *** ant-nest-inspired M-GMC composites would provide a promising development strategy for soft robots and smart integrated devices.

Wettability,reactivity,and interface structure in Mg/Ni system

The sessile drop method was applied to the experimental investigation of the wetting and spreading behaviors of liquid Mg drops on pure Ni *** comparison,the experiments were performed in two variants:(1)using the Capillary purification(Cp)procedure,which allows the non-contact heating and squeezing of a pure oxide-free Mg drop;(2)by classical Contact Heating(CH)*** high-temperature tests were performed under isothermal conditions(Cp:760℃for 30 s;CH:715℃for 300 s)using Ar+5 wt%H_(2) *** the sessile drop tests,images of the Mg/Ni couples were recorded by CCD cameras(57 fps),which were then applied to calculate the contact angles of metal/substrate *** and transmission electron microscopy analyses,both coupled with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy,were used for detailed structural characterization of the solidified *** was found that an oxide-free Mg drop obtained by the Cp procedure showed a wetting phenomenon on the Ni substrate(an average contact angleθpreading and good wetting over the Ni substrate(θ_((Cp))~20°in 5 s)to form a final contact angle ofθ_(f(Cp))~18°.In contrast,a different wetting behavior was observed for the CH procedure,where the unavoidable primary oxide film on the Mg surface blocked the spreading of liquid Mg showing apparently non-wetting behavior after 300 s contact at the test ***,in both cases,the deep craters formed in the Ni substrates under the Mg drops and significant change in the structure of initially pure Mg drops to Mg-Ni alloys suggest a strong dissolution of Ni in liquid Mg and apparent values of the final contact angles measured for the Mg/Ni system.

Drought events influence nutrient canopy exchanges and green leaf partitioning during senescence in a deciduous forest

The increase in the frequency and intensity of drought events expected in the coming decades in Western Europe may disturb forest biogeochemical cycles and create nutrient deficiencies in *** possible origin of nutrient deficiency is the disturbance of the partitioning of the green leaf pool during the leaf senescence period between resorption,foliar leaching and senesced ***,the effects of drought events on this partitioning and the consequences for the maintenance of tree nutrition are poorly *** experiment in a beech forest in Meuse(France)was conducted to assess the effect of drought events on nutrient canopy exchanges and on the partitioning of the green leaf pool during the leaf senescence *** aim was to identify potential nutritional consequences of droughts for *** nutrient dynamics,including resorption,chemistry of green and senesced leaves,foliar absorption and leaching in mature beech stands from 2012 to 2019 allowed us to compare the nutrient exchanges for three nondry and three dry years(i.e.,with an intense drought event during the growing season).During dry years,we observed a decrease by almost a third of the potassium(K)partitioning to resorption(*** efficiency),thus reducing the K reserve in trees for the next growing *** result suggests that with the increased drought frequency and intensity expected for the coming decades,there will be a risk of potassium deficiency in trees,as already observed in a rainfall exclusion experiment on the same study *** foliar leaching and higher parititioning to the senesced leaves for K and phosphorus(p)were also *** addition,a slight increase in nitrogen(N)resorption efficiency occurred during dry years which is more likely to improve tree *** calcium(Ca)negative resorption decreased,with no apparent consequence in our study *** results show that nutrient exchanges in the canopy and the partitioning of the green leaf

predicting microbial extracellular electron transfer activity in paddy soils with soil physicochemical properties using machine learning

Soil extracellular electron transfer(EET)is a pivotal biological process within the realm of ***,EET suffers from a lack of predictive ***,an intricately crafted machine learning model has been developed for the purpose of predicting soil EET by using the physicochemical properties of soil as independent input variables and the EET capabilities in terms of current density(j_(max))and Coulombic charge(C_(out))as dependent output *** autoencoder ensemble stacking(AES)model was developed to address the aforementioned issue by integrating support vector machine,multilayer perceptron,extreme gradient boosting,and light gradient boosting machine algorithms as the stacking *** 10-fold crossvalidation,the AES model exhibited notable improvements in predicting j_(max)and C_(out),with average test R^(2)values of 0.83 and 0.84,respectively,surpassing those of single machine learning(ML)models and the basic ensemble *** utilizing partial correlation plots(pDps),Shapley Additive explanations(SHAp)values,and SHAp decision plots,we quantitatively explained the impact and contribution of the input molecules on the AES model’s predictions of j_(max)and C_(out).In the context of the SHAp method for the AES model,total carbon(TC)was identified as the most correlated descriptor for j_(max),while total organic carbon(TOC)stood out as the most relevant descriptor for C_(out).In the prediction tasks of j_(max)and C_(out)within the AES model,employing a multitask ML approach allowed the model to benefit from the shared information of input variables,thereby enhancing its overall *** study provides a feasible tool for the prediction of soil EET from soil physiochemical properties and an advanced understanding of the relationship between soil physiochemical properties and EET capability.

With plenty of popular and effective ternary organic solar cells(OSCs)construction strategies proposed and applied,its power conversion efficiencies(pCEs)have come to a new level of over 19%in single-junction ***,previous studies are heavily based in chloroform(CF)leaving behind substantial knowledge deficiencies in understanding the influence of solvent choice when introducing a third ***,we present a case where a newly designed asymmetric small molecular acceptor using fluoro-methoxylated end-group modification strategy,named BTp-BO-3FO with enlarged bandgap,brings different morphological evolution and performance improvement effect on host system pM6:BTp-eC9,processed by CF and ortho-xylene(o-XY).With detailed analyses supported by a series of experiments,the best pCE of 19.24%for green solvent-processed OSCs is found to be a fruit of finely tuned crystalline ordering and general aggregation motif,which furthermore nourishes a favorable charge generation and recombination ***,over 19%pCE can be achieved by replacing spin-coating with blade coating for active layer *** work focuses on understanding the commonly met yet frequently ignored issues when building ternary blends to demonstrate cutting-edge device performance,hence,will be instructive to other ternary OSC works in the future.

Quasi-coherent micro-instabilities is one of the key topics of magnetic confinement fusion. This work focuses on the quasi-coherent spectra of ion temperature gradient(ITG) and trapped-electron-mode instabilities using newly developed far-forward collective scattering measurements within ohmic plasmas in the j-TEXT *** ITG mode is characterized by frequencies ranging from 30 to 100 k Hz and wavenumbers(k_(θρs)) less than 0.3. Beyond a critical plasma density threshold, the ITG mode undergoes a bifurcation, which is marked by a reduction in frequency and an enhancement in amplitude. Concurrently, enhancements in ion energy loss and degradation in confinement are observed. This ground-breaking discovery represents the first instance of direct experimental evidence that establishes a clear link between ITG instability and ion thermal transport.

The interventional effect of polygonatum cyrtonema Hua polysaccharide on atherosclerosis in mice of different sexes

In the present study,we investigated the intervention effects of a purified polygonatum cyrtonema polysaccharide(pCp)on high-fat diet(HFD)-induced atherosclerosis in male and female LDLr-/-*** showed that HFD caused severe dyslipidemia,atherosclerotic lesions,oxidative damages and inflammation in male and female mice,and these effects seemed to be more pronounced in males than in ***,the above variations could be dose-dependently reversed by pCp treatment,and the intervention effects on males were greater than those on *** factor kappa-B(NF-κB),mitogen-activated protein kinase(MApKs)and protein kinase B(Akt)are 3 pivotal signaling pathways mediating the development of ***,pCp was also found to significantly decrease the phosphorylation of p65,p38,extracellular-regulated kinase 1/2(ERK1/2)and Akt,and increase the protein expression of inhibitor of NF-κB(IκB)in the aortas of male and female mice induced by *** together,these findings indicated that pCp could be effective for the prevention of atherosclerosis,and the intervention effect of pCp on male mice was more obvious than that of female mice.
