Micro RNA-26a(miR-26a)has been verified to promote osteogenic differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells in recent *** main obstacles to its application in bone regeneration are instability in the physiological environment and low efficiency of cellular membrane *** overcome these problems,we constructed a novel plant virus gene delivery system based on Cowpea chlorotic mottle virus(CCMV).By encapsulating miR-26a with purified capsid protein(CP)dimers derived from CCMV,CPmiR-26a(CP26a)virus-like particles(VLPs)were ***26a retained a structure similar to the native CCMV and protected miR-26a from digestion with its exterior ***,CP26a featured similar cellular uptake efficiency,osteogenesis promotion ability,and better biocompatibility compared with Lipofectamine2000-miR-26a(lipo26a),which indicated a promising prospect for CCMV as a novel gene delivery system.

The treatment of wastewaters is crucial to maintain the ecological status of receiving waters,and thereby guarantee the protection of aquatic life and human *** quality evaluation is conventionally based on physicochemical parameters,but increasing attention has been paid to integrate physicochemical and biological ***,the regulatory use of fish in biological testing methods has been subject to various ethical and cost concerns,and in vitro cell-based assays have thus become an important topic of ***,the present study intends:(a) to evaluate the efficiency of two different sample pre-concentration techniques (lyophilisation and solid phase extraction) to assess the toxicity of municipal effluents on rat cardiomyoblast H9c2(2-1) cells,and (b) maximizing the use of the effluent sample collected,to estimate the environmental condition of the receiving *** gathered results demonstrate that the H9c2(2-1) sulforhodamine B-based assay is an appropriate in vitro method to assess biological effluent toxicity,and the best results were attained by lyophilising the sample as *** to its response,the H9c2(2-1) cell line might be a possible alternative in vitro model for fish lethal testing to assess the toxicity of municipal *** physicochemical status of the sample suggests a high potential for eutrophication,and iron exceeded the permissible level for wastewater discharge,possibly due to the addition of ferric chloride for wastewater *** general,the levels of carbamazepine and sulfamethoxazole are higher than those reported for other countries,and both surpassed the aquatic protective values for long-term exposure.

In the current work,we demonstrated that the rejuvenation of metallic glasses can be achieved through training theβrelaxation *** the increase in the training frequency,a transition from structural relaxation to rejuvenation can be *** rejuvenation treatment is unexpected due to it occurs at a relatively small cyclic strain of 0.2%.Rejuvenation is beneficial to increase the relaxation enthalpy and promotes the decoupling of theβrelaxation process andαrelaxation process.A cluster ofβrelaxation time curves are formulated to describe any energetic state between ultrastable and ultimately rejuvenated metallic *** addition,rejuvenation expands the distribution ofβrelaxation process,anelastic and viscoplastic components during the deformation process.

Non-contact,self-referenced and near-infrared luminescent nanothermometers have been recognized as emerging tools in the fields of nanomedicine and nanotechnology due to their great capability of precise temperature readout at the nanoscale and real-time deep-tissue ***,the development of multifunctional and biocompatible luminescent nanothermometers operating within the optically transparent biological windows with high thermal sensitivity(>2.0%/K)remains ***,we present(Gd0.98Nd0.02)2O3 nanothermometers operated effectively within the first and second biological windows upon continuous-wave laser diode excitation at 808 *** thermometric parameters are defined by the relative changes in the emission intensities originating from the two Stark components of the 4 F3/2 level(R2 and R1)to the 4 I9/2(900-1000 nm),4 I11/2(1035-1155 nm)and 4 I13/2(1300-1450 nm)*** thermo metric parameters are evaluated for colloidal samples in a cell culture medium and powder samples,and the highest thermal sensitivity(2.18%/K at 298 K)is attained for the former in the first biological window(both the excitation and emission in the 800-965 nm range).The repeatability and temperature uncertainty are 99%and 1.2 K,*** nanothermometers are biocompatible with human MNT-1 melanoma and HaCaT cells for 24 h of exposure and nanoparticle concentration up to 0.400 mg/mL,showing their potential for applications in nanomedicine,e.g.,intracellular imaging and temperature mapping.

Approximately 40%of treatments of chronic and recurrent osteomyelitis fail in part due to bacterial *** aureus,the predominant pathogen in human osteomyelitis,is known to persist by phenotypic adaptation as small-colony variants(SCVs)and by formation of intracellular reservoirs,including those in major bone cell types,reducing susceptibility to *** infections with *** are difficult to treat;however,there are no evidence-based clinical guidelines addressing these infections in *** conducted a systematic review of the literature to determine the demonstrated efficacy of all antibiotics against intracellular *** relevant to osteomyelitis,including protein biosynthesis inhibitors(lincosamides,streptogramins,macrolides,oxazolidines,tetracyclines,fusidic acid,and aminoglycosides),enzyme inhibitors(fluoroquinolones and ansamycines),and cell wall inhibitors(beta-lactam inhibitors,glycopeptides,fosfomycin,and lipopeptides).The PubMed and Embase databases were screened for articles related to intracellular *** infections that compared the effectiveness of multiple antibiotics or a single antibiotic together with another treatment,which resulted in 34 full-text articles fitting the inclusion *** combined findings of these studies were largely inconclusive,most likely due to the plethora of methodologies ***,the reported findings in the context of the models employed and possible solutions for improved understanding are explored *** rifampicin,oritavancin,linezolid,moxifloxacin and oxacillin were identified as the most effective potential intracellular treatments,the scientific evidence for these is still relatively *** advocate for more standardized research on determining the intracellular effectiveness of antibiotics in *** osteomyelitis to improve treatments and patient outcomes.

Historically,studies of condition-dependent signals in animals have been male-centric,but recent work suggests that female ornaments can also communicate individual quality(e.g.,disease state,fecundity).There also has been a surge of interest in how urbanization alters signaling traits,but we know little about if and how cities affect signal expression in female *** measured carotenoid-based plumage coloration and coccidian(Isospora spp.)parasite burden in desert and city populations of house finches Haemorhous mexicanus to examine links between urbanization,health state,and feather pigmentation in males and *** earlier work,we showed that male house finches are less colorful and more parasitized in the city,and we again detected such patterns in this study for males;however,urban females were less colorful,but not more parasitized,than rural ***,contrary to rural populations,we found that urban birds(regardless of sex)with larger patches of carotenoid coloration were also more heavily infected with *** results show that urban environments can disrupt condition-dependent color expression and highlight the need for more studies on how cities affect disease and signaling traits in both male and female animals.

The widespread use of pesticides has resulted in detectable residues throughout the environment,sometimes at concentrations well above regulatory ***,the development of safe,effective,field-practical,and economically feasible strategies to mitigate the effects of pesticides is *** is an organophosphorus herbicide that is degraded to aminomethylphosphonic acid(AMPA),a toxic and persistent metabolite that can accumulate in soil and sediment and translocate to *** this study,we investigated the binding efficacy of activated carbon(AC)and calcium montmorillonite(CM)clay to decrease AMPA bioavailability from soil and AMPA translocation to *** isotherms and thermodynamic studies on AC and CM were conducted and showed tight binding(enthalpy values>-20 k j/mol)for AMPA with high capacities(0.25 mol/kg and 0.38 mol/kg,respectively),based on derivations from the Langmuir model.A hydra assay was utilized to indicate toxicity of AMPA and the inclusion of 1%AC and CM both resulted in 90%protection of the hydra(**p≤0.01).Further studies in glyphosate-contaminated soil showed that AC and CM significantly reduced AMPA bioavailability by 53%and 44%,*** in genetically modified(GM)corn showed a conversion of glyphosate to AMPA in roots and sprouts over a 10-day exposure *** of AC and CM reduced AMPA residues in roots and sprouts by 47%-61%.These studies collectively indicate that AC and CM are effective sorbents for AMPA and could be used to reduce AMPA bioavailability from soil and AMPA residues in GM corn plants.

The climatic niche is a central concept for understanding species distribution,with current and past climate interpreted as strong drivers of present and historical-geographical *** aim is to understand whether Atlantic Forest snakes follow the general geographical pattern of increasing species climatic niche breadths with increasing *** also tested if there is a tradeoff between temperature and precipitation niche breadths of species in order to understand if species with larger breadths of one niche dimension have stronger dispersal constraints by the other due to narrower niche *** breadths were calculated by the subtraction of maximal and minimal values of temperature and precipitation across species *** implemented Phylogenetic Generalized Least Squares to measure the relationship between temperature and precipitation niche breadths and *** also tested phylogenetic signals by Lambda statistics to analyze the degree of phylogenetic niche conservatism to both niche *** niche breadths were not related to *** niche breadths decreased with increasing latitude and presented a high phylogenetic signal,that is,significant phylogenetic niche *** rejected the tradeoff hypotheses of temperature and precipitation niche *** results also indicate that precipitation should be an important ecological constraint affecting the geographical distribution of snake lineages across the South American Atlantic *** then provide a general view of how phylogenetic niche conservatism could impact the patterns of latitudinal variation of climatic niches across this biodiversity hotspot.
