In power plants,flue gases can cause severe corrosion damage in metallic parts such as flue ducts,heat exchangers,and *** is an effective technique to prevent this damage.A robust fuzzy model of the surface roughness(Ra and Rz)of flue gas ducts coated by protective composite coating from epoxy and nanoparticles was constructed based on the experimental *** proposed model consists of four nanoparticles(ZnO,ZrO2,SiO2,and NiO)with 2%,4%,6%,and 8%,*** surface methodology(RSM)was used to optimize the process parameters and identify the optimal conditions for minimum surface roughness of this coated *** prove the superiority of the proposed fuzzy model,the model results were compared with those obtained by ANOVA,with the coefficient of determination and the root-mean-square error(RMSE)used as *** Ra,for the first output response,using ANOVA,the coefficient-of-determination values were 0.9137 and 0.4037,respectively,for training and ***,for Rz,the second output response,the coefficient-of-determination results were 0.9695 and 0.4037,respectively,for training and *** the fuzzy modeling of Ra,for the first output response,the RMSE values were 0.0 and 0.1455,respectively,for training and *** values for the coefficient of determination were 1.00 and 0.9807,respectively,for training and *** results prove the superiority of fuzzy *** modeling the second output response Rz,the RMSE values were 0.0 and 0.0421,respectively,for training and testing,and the coefficient-of-determination values were 1.00 and 0.9959,respectively,for training and testing.

The Collaborative Cross(CC)mouse model is a next‐generation mouse genetic reference population(GRP)designated for a high‐resolution quantitative trait loci(QTL)mapping of complex traits during health and *** CC lines were generated from reciprocal crosses of eight divergent mouse founder strains composed of five classical and three wild‐derived *** traits are defined to be controlled by variations within multiple genes and the gene/environment *** this article,we introduce and present variety of protocols and results of studying the host response to infectious and chronic diseases,including type 2 diabetes and metabolic diseases,body composition,immune response,colorectal cancer,susceptibility to Aspergillus fumigatus,Klebsiella pneumoniae,Pseudomonas aeruginosa,sepsis,and mixed infections of Porphyromonas gingivalis and Fusobacterium nucleatum,which were conducted at our laboratory using the CC mouse *** traits are observed at multiple levels of the body systems,including metabolism,body weight,immune profile,susceptibility or resistance to the development and progress of infectious or chronic ***,we present full protocols and step‐by‐step methods,implemented in our laboratory for the phenotypic and genotypic characterization of the different CC lines,mapping the gene underlying the host response to these infections and chronic *** CC mouse model is a unique and powerful GRP for dissecting the host genetic architectures underlying complex traits,including chronic and infectious diseases.

Background:Multimorbidity of intestinal cancer(IC),type 2 diabetes(T2D)and obesity is a complex set of diseases,affected by environmental and genetic risk ***-fat diet(HFD)and oral bacterial infection play important roles in the etiology of these diseases through inflammation and various biological ***:To study the complexity of this multimorbidity,we used the collaborative cross(CC)mouse genetics reference *** aimed to study the multimorbidity of IC,T2D,and obesity using CC lines,measuring their responses to HFD and oral bacterial *** study used 63 mice of both sexes generated from two CC lines(IL557 and IL711).For 12 weeks,experimental mice were maintained on specific dietary regimes combined with co-infection with oral bacteria Porphyromonas gingivalis and Fusobacterium nucleatum,while control groups were not *** weight(BW)and results of a intraperitoneal glucose tolerance test(IPGTT)were recorded at the end of 12 weeks,after which length and size of the intestines were assessed for polyp ***:Polyp counts ranged between 2 and 10 per CC *** combination of HFD and infection significantly reduced(P<.01)the colon polyp size of IL557 females to 2.5 cm 2,compared to the other *** BW gain,IL557 males on HFD gained 18 g,while the females gained 10 g under the same conditions and showed the highest area under curve(AUC)values of 40000-45000(min mg/dL)in the ***:The results show that mice from different genetic backgrounds respond differently to a high fat diet and oral infection in terms of polyp development and glucose tolerance,and this effect is gender related.

Use of routine HIV testing data for early detection of emerging HIV epidemics in high-risk subpopulations:A concept demonstration study

Introduction:HIV epidemics in hard-to-reach high-risk subpopulations are often discovered years after epidemic emergence in settings with poor surveillance *** hypothesis-generation modeling,we aimed to investigate and demonstrate the concept of using routine HIV testing data to identify and characterize hidden epidemics in high-risk *** also compared this approach to surveillance based on AIDS case ***:A deterministic mathematical model was developed to simulate an emerging HIV epidemic in a high-risk subpopulation.A stochastic Monte Carlo simulation was implemented on the total population to simulate the sampling process of generating routine HIV testing *** measures were estimated on the simulated epidemic and on the generated testing *** analyses were conducted on the ***:In the simulated epidemic,HIV prevalence saturated at 32%in the high-risk subpopulation and at 0.33%in the total *** epidemic started its emergingepidemic phase 28 years after infection introduction,and saturated 67 years after infection *** the simulated HIV testing sample,a significant time trend in prevalence was identified,and the generated metrics of epidemic emergence and saturation were similar to those of the simulated *** epidemic was identified 4.0(95%CI 3.4e4.6)years after epidemic emergence using routine HIV testing,but 29.7(95%CI 15.8 e52.1)years after emergence using AIDS case *** the sensitivity analyses,none of the sampling biases affected the conclusion of an emerging epidemic,but some affected the estimated epidemic growth ***:Routine HIV testing data provides a tool to identify and characterize hidden and emerging epidemics in high-risk *** approach can be specially useful in resource-limited settings,and can be applied alone,or along with other complementary data,to provide a meaningful characterization of emer

Mapping novel genetic loci associated with female liver weight variations using Collaborative Cross mice

Background: Liver weight is a complex trait, controlled by polygenic factors and differs within populations. Dissecting the genetic architecture underlying these variations will facilitate the search for key role candidate genes involved directly in the hepatomegaly process and indirectly involved in related diseases ***: Liver weight of 506 mice generated from 39 different Collaborative Cross(CC) lines with both sexes at age 20 weeks old was determined using an electronic balance. Genomic DNA of the CC lines was genotyped with high-density single nucleotide polymorphic ***: Statistical analysis revealed a significant(P < 0.05) variation of liver weight between the CC lines, with broad sense heritability(H^2) of 0.32 and genetic coefficient of variation(CV_G) of 0.28. Subsequently, quantitative trait locus(QTL) mapping was performed, and results showed a significant QTL only for females on chromosome 8 at genomic interval 88.61-93.38 Mb(4.77 Mb). Three suggestive QTL were mapped at chromosomes 4, 12 and 13. The four QTL were designated as LWL1-LWL4 referring to liver weight loci 1-4 on chromosomes 8, 4, 12 and 13,***: To our knowledge, this report presents, for the first time, the utilization of the CC for mapping QTL associated with baseline liver weight in mice. Our findings demonstrate that liver weight is a complex trait controlled by multiple genetic factors that differ significantly between sexes.

Potential for human immunodeficiency virus parenteral transmission in the Middle East and North Africa: An analysis using hepatitis C virus as a proxy biomarker

The Middle East and North Africa(MENA) region has endured several major events of infection parenteral transmission. Recent work has established the utility of using hepatitis C virus(HCV) as a proxy biomarker for assessing the epidemic potential for human immunodeficiency virus(HIV) parenteral transmission. In this review, we use data on the prevalence of HCV infection antibody(seroprevalence) among general population and high risk population groups to assess the potential for HIV parenteral transmission in MENA. Relatively low prevalence of HCV infection in the general population groups was reported in most MENA countries indicating that parenteral HIV transmission at endemic levels does not appear to be a cause for concern. Nonetheless, there could be opportunities for localized HIV outbreaks and transmission of other blood-borne infections in some settings such as healthcare facilities. Though there have been steady improvements in safety measures related to parenteral modes of transmission in the region, these improvements have not been uniform across all countries. More precautions, including infection control training programs, surveillance systems for nosocomial infections and wider coverage and evaluation of hepatitis B virus immunization programs need to be implemented to avoid the unnecessary spread of HIV, HCV, and other blood-borne pathogens along the parenteral modes of transmission.

Background: Host genetic background and sex, play central roles in defining the pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes(T2 D), obesity and infectious diseases. Our previous studies demonstrated the utilization of genetically highly diverse inbred mouse lines, namely collaborative cross(CC), for dissecting host susceptibility for the development of T2 D and obesity, showing significant variations following high-fat(42% fat) diet(HFD). Here, we aimed to assessing the host genetic background and sex effects on T2 D and obesity development in response to oral-mixed bacterial infection and HFD using the CC *** and Methods: Study cohort consists of 97 mice from 2 CC lines(both sexes), maintained on either HFD or Standard diet(CHD) for 12 weeks. At week 5 a group of mice from each diet were infected with Porphyromonas gingivalis(Pg) and Fusobacterium nucleatum(Fn) bacteria(control groups without infection). Body weight(BW) and glucose tolerance ability were assessed at the end time point of the ***: The CC lines varied(P <.05) at their BW gain and glucose tolerance ability(with sex effect) in response to diets and/or infection, showing opposite responses despite sharing the same environmental conditions. The combination of diet and infection enhances BW accumulation for IL1912, while restraints it for IL72. As for glucose tolerance ability, only females(both lines) were deteriorated in response to ***: This study emphasizes the power of the CC mouse population for the characterization of host genetic makeup for defining the susceptibility of the individual to development of obesity and/or impaired glucose tolerance.

The operating parameters such as the internal quantum efficiency （η）, internal loss （α） and transparent threshold current density （j0） of double quantum well laser diodes were investigated and identified using the program, Integrated System Engineering-Technical Computer Aided Design （ISE-TCAD）. Various thicknesses （6, 7, 8, 10, 12 rim） of AlxInyGa1-x-yN barriers with （3 nm） Al0.08In0.08Ga0.84N wells as an active region were studied. The lowest threshold current （lth）, and the highest output power （Pop） were 116 mA and 196 mW respectively, at barriers thickness of 6 nm, Al mole fraction of 10% and In mole fraction of 1%, at an emission wavelength of 359.6 nm.

Genesis of nanocrystalline Ho_2O_3 via thermal decomposition of holmium acetate: Structure evolution and electrical conductivity properties

This study focuses on the preparation of nanostructured holmium oxide via the decomposition of holmium acetate precursor utilizing the non-isothermal strategy. Thermogravimetric analysis(TGA) was used to follow up the various thermal events involved in the decomposition process. Dehydration completes approximately at 150℃, which is followed by the decomposition of the anhydrous acetate leading to the formation of holmium oxide. Based on the TGA results the acetate precursor was heated non-isothermally at the temperature range of 150 e700℃. The obtained solids were characterized using powder X-ray diffraction(XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR), field-emission scanning electron microscopy(FE-SEM) and transmission electron microscopy(TEM). It is found that nanocrystalline Ho_2 O_3 starts to form at 500℃ and presents the only phase detected at the 500 e700℃ range. The electrical conductivity of the solids that form at the temperature range of 300 e700℃ was investigated. The obtained values were correlated with the observed structural modifications accompanying the heat treatment. The electrical conductivity of the Ho_2 O_3 samples prepared at 500, 600 and 700℃ reaches the values of 1.92 × 10^(-7), 1.61 × 10^(-7) and 8.33 × 10^(-8) Ω^(-1)cm^(-1) at a measuring temperature of 500℃, respectively. These values are potentially advantageous for high-resistivity devices.
