Marine mammals undergo cycles of tissue ischemia and reperfusion during the dive *** inj.ry can result in oxidative tissue damage and the activation of a pro-inflammatory immune *** risk of oxidative damage is reduced by *** hypothesis is that the reported higher antioxidant defenses within marine mammal tissues provide additional protection in situations that produce oxidative stress,like inflammation,in comparison to terrestrial mammal *** were isolated from the whole blood of Pacific bottlenose dolphins(Tursiops truncatus gilli)and humans(Homo sapiens)and were exposed to lipopolysaccharides(LPS,10μg/mL)in vitro to simulate a pro-inflammatory *** stress indicators,including superoxide radical(O_(2)^(•−))production,activities of superoxide dismutase(SOD),catalase(CAT),glutathione peroxidase(GPx),glutathione reductase(GR),and glutathione S-transferase(GST),as well as oxidative protein damage,were quantified by *** 48 h under experimental conditions,bottlenose dolphin leukocytes produced 1.9 times more O_(2)^(•−)but displayed 2.0 times lower protein carbonyl concentrations compared to human *** 48 h under experimental conditions,bottlenose dolphin leukocytes displayed 7.9,2.0,11.1,and 3.3 times more activities of CAT,GPx,GR,and GST,respectively,compared to human *** results suggest that,under cell culture conditions,the antioxidant defenses in bottlenose dolphin leukocytes provide additional protection against pro-inflammatory challenges in comparison to human leukocytes,likely as an adaptive advantage.

Obj.ctive. The nuclear factor(NF)-κB is one of the pivotal regulators of autoimmunity and inflammation, which has been shown to be activated in the inflamed mucosa of patients with celiac disease(CD). Recently, in the NFKB1 gene promoter region, a common insertion/deletion(-94ins/ delATTG) polymorphism located between two putative key promoter regulatory elements was described. The aim of this study was to investigate the contribution of the -94ins/ delATTG NFKB1 gene promoter functional variant to CD genetic predisposition. Material and methods. A case-control cohort comprising 478 patients with CD and 711 healthy controls as well as a panel of 196 celiac families was genotyped for the 94ins/delATTG NFKB1 polymorphism, using a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method combined with fluorescence technology. Results. We found no statistically significant differences between CD patients and controls when the -94ins/delATTG genotype and allele distributions were compared. Accordingly, the familial analysis did not reach statistically significant deviation in the transmission of -94ins/delATTG alleles to the affected offspring. Conclusions. From these results, it could be suggested that the -94ins/delATTG NFKB1 polymorphism does not play a maj.r role in CD susceptibility.

Being a facet of flexible electronics,mechanically reshapeable magnetic field sensorics enable novel device ideas for soft robotics,interactive devices for virtual-and augmented reality and point of care *** applications demand mechanically compliant yet robust sensor devices revealing high sensitivity to small magnetic *** push the detection limit of highly compliant and linear magnetic field sensors to be in the sub-µT range,we explore a new fundamental concept for magnetic field sensing,namely the planar Hall effect in magnetic thin *** their remarkable bendability down to 1 mm,these compliant planar Hall effect sensors allow for an efficient detection of magnetic fields as small as 200 nT with a limit of detection of 20 *** demonstrate the application potential of these devices as a direction(angle)as well as proximity(distance)sensors of tiny magnetic fields emanating from magnetically functionalized *** their intrinsic linearity and simplicity of fabrication,these compliant planar Hall effect sensors have the potential to become a standard solution for low field applications of shapeable magnetoelectronics in point of care applications and on-skin interactive electronics.

Clams of the family Veneridae in northwest Mexico have traditionally been exploited by small-scale *** their socioeconomic importance for coastal communities in the region,most catch zones are currently in decline due to a lack of harvest control regulations that would impede the depletion of local fishing *** Puerto Libertad,in the northern reaches of the Gulf of California,banks of commercially unexploited clam species,including Megapitaria aurantiaca,*** and Dosinia ponderosa,were *** adequate management and exploitation of these banks requires developing basic knowledge regarding the abundance of the species and establishing reference points to determine clear,simple harvest *** goal of this study was to identify population abundance in these banks and ascertain the parameters of the life history of the species found there in order to propose a harvest strategy that will allow the sustainable exploitation of this resource.A total of 288 transects were conducted in the two clam banks to identify species *** was determined using a geostatistical *** relative cohort biomass-at-length was estimated to evaluate the effect of different lengths of first capture on the remaining *** on these data,two harvest control regulations were proposed:a maximum catch(Cmax)of 10%of the total estimated biomass,and a minimum optimal catch size(Lc).The abundance estimates were ***(266,293-381,881 individuals);***(2,779,100-3,455,597);and ***(408,783-447,391).The harvest control regulations proposed are:***,Cmax=2.98 t and Lc=50.33 mm;***,Cmax=49.67 t and Lc=103.44 mm;and ***,Cmax=15.87 t and Lc=80.85 *** results are important as reference information for implementing harvest strategies in clam-fishing banks,and as a contribution to the management and sustainable exploitation of fisheries in the region.

地点:拉丁美洲的结核病(TB)诊断实验室。目的:薄层琼脂(thin-layer agar,TLA)和罗氏培养(Lowenstein-j.nsen,Lj.对结核病诊断的对比评价。设计:6个实验室Ⅱ期前瞻性研究。临床诊断的TB病人样本包括痰标本和肺外结核的标本。呼吸道标本用NaOH／NALC去污;根据推荐的操作程序对所有标本进行离心,萋尼氏法进行抗酸菌(AFB)染色,用Lj.TLA法培养检查。计算两种培养基的敏感度和似然比、生长检测时间和污染率。结果:总共研究了1118份临床标本。所有AFB阳性标本培养后均检出结核分枝杆菌,AFB阴性标本中,Lj.出率为3．2％,TLA为4．4％。TLA和Lj.敏感性分别为92．6％(95％CI:87．9-95．9)和84．7％(95％CI:78．8-89．0)。阳性和阴性LR相似。TLA和Lj.污染率分别为5．1％和3．0％。TLA和Lj.培养阳性的检出平均时间分别为11．5天(95％CI: 9．3-15．0)和30．5天(95％CI:26．9-39．0)(Pj.总体效果,建议不同实验室使用这种方法,因它具有可靠性和可行性。

Colorectal cancer(CRC)is the second leading cause of cancer-related death *** five-year survival rate of CRC patients depends on the stage at diagnosis,being higher than 80%when CRC is diagnosed in the early stages but lower than 10%when CRC is diagnosed in advanced *** against specific CRC autoantigens(tumor-associated antigens(TAAs))in the sera of patients have been widely demonstrated to aid in early ***,we herein aim to identify autoantigens target of autoantibodies specific to CRC that possess a significant ability to discriminate between CRC patients and healthy individuals by means of liquid *** that end,we examined the protein content of the exosomes released by five CRC cell lines and tissue samples from CRC patients by means of immunoprecipitation coupled with mass spectrometry analysis.A total of 103 proteins were identified as potential autoantigens specific to *** bioinformatics and meta-analysis,we selected 15 proteins that are more likely to be actual CRC autoantigens in order to evaluate their role in CRC prognosis by Western blot(WB)and immunohistochemistry(IHC).We found dysregulation at the protein level for 11 of these proteins in both tissue and plasma exosome samples from patients,along with an association of nine of these proteins with CRC *** validation,all but one showed a statistically significant high diagnostic ability to distinguish CRC patients and individuals with premalignant lesions from healthy individuals,either by luminescence Halotag-based beads,or by a multiplexed biosensing platform involving the use of magnetic microcarriers as solid support modified with covalently immobilized Halotag fusion proteins constructed for CRC *** together,our results highlight the usefulness of the approach defined here to identify the TAAs specific to chronic diseases;they also demonstrate that the measurement of autoantibody levels in plasma against the TAAs identified here
