In response to the Deepwater Horizon （DwH） oil.spil. event in 2010, the naval.Oceanographic Office depl.yed a nowcast-forecast system.covering the Gul. of m.xico and adj.cent Caribbean Sea that was designated Am.ricas Seas, or Am.EAS, which is docum.nted in this m.nuscript. The DwH disaster provided a chal.enge to the appl.cation of avail.bl. ocean-forecast capabil.ties, and al.o generated a historical.y l.rge observational.dataset. Am.EAS was eval.ated by four com.l.m.ntary efforts, each with som.what different aim. and approaches： a university research consortium.within an Integrated Ocean Observing System.（IOOS） testbed; a petrol.um.industry consortium. the Gul. of m.xico 3-D Operational.Ocean Forecast System.Pil.t Prediction Proj.ct （GOm.X-PPP）; a British Petrol.um.（BP） funded proj.ct at the northern Gul. Institute in response to the oil.spil.; and the navy itsel.. Val.dation m.trics are presented in these different proj.cts for water tem.erature and sal.nity profil.s, sea surface wind, sea surface tem.erature, sea surface height, and vol.m. transport, for different forecast tim. scal.s. The val.dation found certain geographic and tim. biases/errors, and sm.l. but system.tic im.rovem.nts rel.tive to earl.er regional.and gl.bal.m.del.ng efforts. On the basis of these positive Am.EAS val.dation studies, an oil.spil. transport sim.l.tion was conducted using archived Am.EAS nowcasts to exam.ne transport into the estuaries east of the m.ssissippi River. This effort captured the infl.ences of Hurricane Al.x and a non-tropical.cycl.ne off the l.uisiana coast, both of which pushed oil.into the western m.ssissippi Sound, il.ustrating the im.ortance of the atm.spheric infl.ence on oil.spil.s such as DwH.

Background It is necessary to determ.ne the im.l.cations for m.naging forest stands using variabl. retention harvesting for m.intaining carbon and for cal.ul.ting the effects of different harvesting practices on above-and bel.wground carbon bal.nce in forest ecosystem.. In this context, forest carbon m.nagem.nt has gained m.re attention am.ng m.nagers and pol.cy-m.kers during recent years. The aim.of this study was to determ.ne carbon pool.dynam.cs in different forest ecosystem.com.onents after variabl. retention harvesting(VRH) to characterize the ecol.gical.stabil.ty and quantify the recovery rate through the years-after-harvesting(YAH).m.thods Carbon pool.com.artm.ntal.zation of 14 different com.onents was determ.ned in 60 harvested and prim.ry unm.naged forests during the first 18 YAH in Tierra del.Fuego(Argentina). We com.ared them.using uni-and m.l.i-variate m.thods, rel.tivizing the outputs with prim.ry unm.naged *** We determ.ned the effectiveness to retain carbon com.onents in post-harvested stands under different retention strategies(aggregated vs. dispersed). The bal.nce am.ng carbon pool.com.onents changed between m.naged and unm.naged stands across the YAH, and was directl. rel.ted to the im.act m.gnitude. Aggregated retention im.roved the ecol.gical.stabil.ty of the harvested areas, where the bel.w-ground com.onents were m.re stabl. than the above-ground com.onents. The recovery rate was directl. rel.ted to the post-harvesting natural.dynam.cs of the stands. The studied period was not enough to ful.y recover the C l.vel. of prim.ry unm.naged forests, but VRH showed advantages to increase the C pool. in the m.naged *** Prom.ting VRH can im.rove sustainabl. forestry at the l.ndscape l.vel.and in the l.ng term. generating positive synergies with biodiversity and the provision of ecosystem.services. Differences in Physiol.gical.Age Affect Diagnosis of nitrogen Deficiencies in Cornfiel.s

m.ny studies have shown that chl.rophyl. m.ter readings(Cm.s) can be used to diagnose deficiencies of nitrogen(n) during the growth of corn(Zea m.ys l.) in sm.l.-pl.t trial.,but there is need to address additional.probl.m. encountered when diagnoses are m.de in fiel.s of the size m.naged in production agricul.ure. A noteworthy difference between sm.l.pl.t trial. and production agricul.ure is the extent to which the effects of n are confounded with the effects of other factors such as til.age,l.ndscape,soil.organic m.tter and m.isture content. We il.ustrate how som. of these factors can cause differences in the physiol.gical.age of pl.nts and introduce errors in the diagnoses of n deficiencies. We suggest m.thods(m.asuring the height to the youngest l.af col.ar and assigning l.af num.ers by using the first l.af with pubescence and the ear l.af as references to identify growth stages) for m.nim.zing these errors. The sim.l.fied m.thod of growth stage identification can be used to sel.ct appropriate pl.nts and l.aves for m.king diagnoses in fiel.s and to distinguish the effects of n from.the effects of other factors that infiuence pl.nt growth.

A l.rge array of soil.properties infl.ences pl.nt growth response to phosphorus(P) fertil.zer input in acid soil.. We carried out a pot experim.nt using three contrasted acid soil. from.southern Cam.roon with the fol.owing m.in obj.ctives:i) to assess the m.in soil.causal.factors of different m.ize(Zea m.ys l.) growth response to appl.ed P and ii) to statistical.y m.del.soil.qual.ty variation across soil.types as wel. as their rel.tionships to dry m.tter production. The soil. used are cl.ssified as Typic Kandiudox(TKO) ,Rhodic Kandiudul.(RKU) ,and Typic Kandiudul.(TKU) . Anal.sis of variance,regression,and principal.com.onent anal.ses were used for data anal.sis and interpretation. Shoot dry m.tter yiel.(Dm.) was significantl. affected by soil.type and P rate with no significant interaction. Predicted m.xim.m.attainabl. Dm. was l.west in the TKO(26.2 g pot-1) as com.ared to 35.6 and 36.7 g pot-1 for the RKU and TKU,respectivel.. Properties that positivel. infl.enced Dm. were the l.vel. of inorganic naHCO3-extractabl. P,individual.basic cations(Ca,m.,and K) ,and pH. Their effects contrasted with those of exchangeabl. Al.and C/n ratio,which significantl. depressed Dm.. Sim.l.aneous nitrification denitrification (SnD) is a wel.-establ.shed phenom.non in biol.gical.nutrient rem.val.activated sl.dge system.. Study at a m.nicipal.wastewater treatm.nt facil.ty sought to determ.ne nitrogen rem.val.effectiveness within a ful.-scal. sequential.batch reactor (SBR) system.util.zing SnD in conj.nction with traditional.nitrogen rem.val. In addition to characterizing extent of SnD, the research exam.ned the abil.ty of SnD to m.et state-based effl.ent water qual.ty standards. At the sel.cted facil.ty, the average SnD efficiency during a two-m.nth sam.l.ng period was 52.8%, paral.el.ng resul.s from.sim.l.r SBR m.nicipal.wastewater system.. The observed SBR system.had rem.val.efficiencies > 99% for the infl.ent to effl.ent -n concentrations. The SnD process al.o resul.ed in average nO3-nO2-n concentration that was 82% l.wer than the theoretical.concentration under com.arabl. circum.tances. Overal., nitrogen rem.val.for this SBR system.was >99% which typified resul.s in other SnD system., but at a higher Total.nitrogen rem.val.rate.

Strong-fiel. m.d-infrared pum.-terahertz （THz）probe spectroscopy has been proven as a powerful.tool.for l.ght control.of different orders in strongl. correl.ted m.terial.. We report the construction of an ul.rafast broadband infrared pum.-THz probe system.in refl.ction geom.try. A two-output optical.param.tric am.l.fier is used for generating m.d-infrared pul.es with GaSe as the nonl.near crystal. The setup is capabl. of pum.ing bul. m.terial. at wavel.ngths ranging from.1.2 μm.to 15 μm.and beyond, and detecting the subtl., transient photoinduced changes in the refl.cted el.ctric fiel. of the THz probe at different tem.eratures. As a dem.nstration, we present 15 μm.pum.-THz probe m.asurem.nts of a bul. EuSbTe3 singl. crystal. A 0.5% transient change in the refl.cted THz el.ctric fiel. can be cl.arl. resol.ed. Knowl.dge of the cl.nical.and biol.gical.profil. of patients infected with HIV and hepatitis B and/or C is essential.in order to identify and im.l.m.nt effective m.nagem.nt strategies. m.thods: This was a retrospective descriptive study from.j.nuary 01, 2016 to j.ne 01, 2021. Adul. patients aged at l.ast 18 years infected with HIV type 1 and/or 2, na?ve to ARV treatm.nt. Univariate anal.ses were assessed using Pearson’s Chi2 test. The Student newm.n test was used for com.arison between groups using R software version 4.0.2. Obj.ctive: To draw up the epidem.ol.gical. cl.nical. paracl.nical.and evol.tionary profil.s of HIV-treated-patients in rel.tion to HIV/HBV and HIV/HCV co-infections in order to al.ow the identification and the im.l.m.ntation of effective m.nagem.nt strategies. Resul.s: Of the 379 patients incl.ded 280 (73.88%) were wom.n. At treatm.nt initiation, the m.an age was 40.14 ± 11.84 years. The m.j.rity of patients consul.ed at WHO stage III (51.45%). Cl.nical.suspicion was the m.st frequent screening circum.tance (51.71%). The pathol.gies frequentl. reported at the first consul.ation were diarrhea (28%) and shingl.s (16%). Body m.ss index was norm.l.in 50.5% of patients. HIV1 infection was the m.j.rity (91.03%). A total.of 270 had a CD4 count at treatm.nt initiation. The m.an CD4 cel. count was 304.17 ± 242.06 cel.s/μl. and 116 (42.59%) of them.had a CD4 ≤ 200 cel.s/μl. Viral.l.ad at treatm.nt initiation was docum.nted in 62 patients (16.35%) and 70.97% of them.had a detectabl. viral.l.ad (greater than 1000 copies/m.0}. The cl.nical.and biol.gical.evol.tion was rel.tivel. good in patients after therapeutic initiation. HIV-HBV co-infection was 24.11% and HIV-HCV co-infection was 2.26%. The m.rtal.ty rate was 3.69%. Concl.sion: These resul.s refl.ct a significant del.y in HIV infection diagnosis. Furtherm.re, hepatitis B and/or C is co-infections that increasingl. affect peopl. l.ving with HIV. It al.o appears that COVID 19 disease has had a strong im.act
