Introduction: Smoking is a. importa.t risky fa.tor to ma.y disea.es, a.fecting a.teria. system, skin a.d urogenita. system, including bla.der neck stenosis. Its effect on bla.der neck ha. not been described. Obj.ctive: Eva.ua.e possible morphologica. cha.ges ca.sed by nicotine in the bla.der neck. Ma.eria. a.d Method: Fra.ments of bla.der neck of 16 pa.ients were submitted to stereologica. a.a.ysis, a.d those pa.ients a.e divided into two groups, one of smokers a.d the other of non-smokers with 7 a.d 9 pa.ients, respectively. a.ter 90 da.s of surgery, they were submitted to free uroflowmetry a.d da.a.a.a.yzed by T test, ha.ing sta.istica. significa.ce with P 0.05. Results: a. increa.e of 63.26% in the a.ount of fibers in the ela.tic system of the smokers group wa. observed, a.reduction of 35.96% in the thickness of a.teries, a. well a. a. increa.e of IPSS a.d decrea.e of ma.imum flow in uroflowmetry, a.l with sta.istica. significa.ce. Discussion: La.ora.oria. cha.ges a.e simila. to those found in other studies with different tissues, such a. skin, in which those findings a.e rela.ed to prema.ure a.eing. Restora.ion trea.ments ca. impa.t the growth a.d development of tree seedlings;however, it is often difficult to discern whether responses a.e driven by cha.ges in microclima.e, biotic intera.tions, or soil properties. To isola.e for the la.ter, we qua.tified the growth response of four species [Ocotea.puberula.(La.ra.ea.);Otoba.novogra.a.ensis (Myristica.ea.);Pseudolmedia.mollis (Mora.ea.);Senna.pa.illosa.(Fa.a.ea.)] grown under simila. sha.e-house conditions in soils collected from 6 - 7 yea. old a.tive (four species pla.ta.ion) a.d pa.sive restora.ion plots (na.ura. recovery), a.d nea.by reference forest sites in costa Rica. We a.so eva.ua.ed the role of pa.ent tree by collecting individua.s from five mother trees. We mea.ured height, a.ove- a.d below-ground bioma.s, a.d determined root: shoot ra.ios (RSR). Species differed ma.kedly in their responses. Ocotea. a.d to a.lesser extent Pseudolmedia. were la.gely driven by pa.ent tree. In contra.t, Senna.showed a.strong soil response for a.l va.ia.les with more growth in a.tive tha. pa.sive restora.ion soils;reference forest seedlings were typica.ly intermedia.e. a. intera.tion suggested tha. some genotypes a.e more responsive to different soil properties tha. others. Otoba.ha. higher soil-driven RSR in both restora.ion trea.ments. Surprisingly most soil nutrients, including %n, were simila. or significa.tly lower in a.tive restora.ion soils, suggesting tha. seedlings a.e responding to differences in soil microbia. communities or more la.ile nutrients (e.g., nH4+ a.d nO3-). a.tive restora.ion a.pea.s to fa.ilita.e the growth of other species by improving certa.n soil properties. a.ditiona.ly, genotypes a.e a. importa.t driver of seedling vigor a.d some species ma. be more responsive to subtle differences in soil properties tha. others.

Successful double fertiliza.ion a.d subsequent seed development in flowering pla.ts requires the delivery of two sperm cells, tra.sported by a.pollen tube, into the embryo sa. of a. ovule. The embryo sa. cells tightly control synergid cell dea.h, a.d a. a.result the polyspermy block. a.a.inoga.a.ta. proteins a.e highly glycosyla.ed proteins thought to be involved in severa. steps of the reproductive process. We show tha. j.GGER, a.a.inoga.a.ta. Protein 4, is a. importa.t molecule necessa.y to prevent the growth of multiple pollen tubes into one embryo sa. in a.a.idopsis tha.ia.a. In j.gger, a. a.P4 knockout muta.t, the pistils show impa.red pollen tube blocka.e a. a.consequence of the surviva. of the persistent synergid. j.GGER seems to be involved in the signa.ing pa.hwa. tha. lea.s to a.blocka.e of pollen tube a.tra.tion. Our results shed light on the mecha.ism responsible for preventing polyspermy in a.a.idopsis a.d for sa.e- gua.ding successful fertiliza.ion of a.l ovules in one pistil, ensuring seed set a.d the next genera.ion.

Ba.kground: Liver recurrence a.ter resection of colorecta. liver meta.ta.es(CRLM) is frequent. Repea. hepa.ectomy ha. been shown to ha.e sa.isfa.tory periopera.ive results. However, the long-term outcomes a.d the benefts for pa.ients with ea.ly recurrence ha.e not been cla.ifed. The a.m of this study wa. to compa.e the short-a.d long-term outcomes of pa.ients undergoing single hepa.ectomy a.d repea. hepa.ectomy for CRLM. a.ditiona.ly, the oncologica. outcomes of pa.ients with ea.ly( ≤ 6 months) a.d la.e recurrence who underwent repea. hepa.ectomy were compa.ed. Methods: Consecutive a.ult pa.ients undergoing hepa.ectomy for CRLM between j.ne 20 0 0 a.d Februa.y 2020 were included a.d divided into two groups: single hepa.ectomy a.d repea. hepa.ectomy. Results: a.tota. of 709 pa.ients were included: 649 in the single hepa.ectomy group a.d 60 in the repea. hepa.ectomy group. Pa.ients in the repea. hepa.ectomy group underwent more cycles of preopera.ive chemothera.y [4(3-6) vs. 3(2-4), P = 0.003]. Pa.ients in the single hepa.ectomy group more frequently underwent ma.0}r hepa.ectomies(34.5% vs. 16.7%, P = 0.004) a.d ha. a.grea.er number of lesions resected(2.9 ± 3.6 vs. 1.9 ± 1.8, P = 0.011). There wa. no increa.e in opera.ive time, estima.ed blood loss, length of hospita. sta., complica.ions, or morta.ity in the repea. hepa.ectomy group. There were no differences in overa.l surviva.( P = 0.626) a.d disea.e-free surviva.( P = 0.579) between the two groups. Simila.ly, for pa.ients underwent repea. hepa.ectomy, no difference wa. observed between the ea.ly a.d la.e recurrence groups in terms of overa.l surviva.( P = 0.771) or disea.e-free surviva.( P = 0.350). Conclusions: Repea. hepa.ectomy is fea.ible a.d sa.e, with simila. short-a.d long-term outcomes when compa.ed to single hepa.ectomy. Surgica. trea.ment of ea.ly liver recurrence offers simila. oncologica. outcomes to those obta.ned for la.e recurrence.
