Leishma.ia.is is a.set of disea.es with a.worldwide distribution tha. a.fects ma.nly economica.ly underprivileged popula.ions in developing countries. It ha. a.ma.0}r impa.t on public hea.th, with a.globa. cost of billions of dolla.s per yea.. The trea.ment a.d control of leishma.ia.is va.y a.cording to the Leishma.ia.species involved, which require relia.le methods for species identifica.ion. Since most of the currently used methods ha.e limita.ions, there is a.need for a.sa.s tha. a.low ra.id, precise identifica.ion of the offending species. Rea.-time polymera.e cha.n rea.tions in conj.nction with dissocia.ion curve a.a.ysis ha.e been used to detect differences in the Dna.composition of selected genes of Leishma.ia.spp. Kinetopla.t Dna.is the ma.n molecula. ta.get used beca.se of its high copy number per pa.a.ite, but other ta.gets ha.e a.so been studied. a. pa.t of a. effort to esta.lish melting tempera.ure sta.da.ds for ea.h ta.get gene, we ha.e reviewed the pertinent litera.ure a.a.la.le in public da.a.a.es, including Pub Med, Web of Science, Sci ELO a.d LILa.S, using the keywords "Leishma.ia., "leishma.ia.is", "rea.time PCR", "melting tempera.ure", a.d "melting curve", a.one or in combina.ion. a.ter a.plying eligibility criteria. 27 a.ticles were selected for a.a.ysis. a.considera.le va.ia.ion in the methodologies a.a.yzed wa. found rega.ding molecula. ta.gets, sta.da.diza.ion of the methods, reproducibility a.d specificity. Beca.se of this, sta.istica. a.a.ysis wa. not performed. In most ca.es, the methods were a.le to differentia.e the pa.a.ite a. the subgenus level or few species rega.dless of the ta.get chosen.
