The key risk factor for glaucoma is increased intraocular pressure (IOP). Glaucoma drainage devices implanted in theeye can reduce IOP and thus stop disease progression. However, most devices currently used in clinical practice arepassive and do not allow for postsurgical IOP control, which may result in serious complications such as hypotony (i.e.,excessively low IOP). To enable noninvasive IOP control, we demonstrate a novel, miniature glaucoma implant that willenable the repeated adjustment of the hydrodynamic resistance after implantation. This is achieved by integrating amagnetic microvalve containing a micropencil-shaped plug that is moved using an external magnet, thereby openingor closing fluidic channels. The microplug is made from biocompatible poly(styrene-block-isobutylene-block-styrene)(sIBs) containing iron microparticles. The complete implant consists of an sIBs drainage tube and a housing elementcontaining the microvalve and fabricated with hot embossing using femtosecond laser-machined glass molds. Usingin vitro and ex vivo microfluidic experiments, we demonstrate that when the microvalve is closed, it can providesufficient hydrodynamic resistance to overcome hypotony. Valve function is repeatable and stable over time. Due to itssmall size, our implant is a promising, safe, easy-to-implant, minimally invasive glaucoma surgery device.

In this work,the microstructural evolution and mechanical properties of a pre-deformed WE43 magnesium alloy when aged at 250 and 300℃ were further *** is found that the abundant deformation twins introduced by pre-deformation were maintained within the alloy during the aging *** particles formed at the twin boundaries and coarsened with aging time,especially at 300℃.When peak-aged at 250℃,the fine metastable β'''and β' precipitates formed in the un-deformed alloy have been transformed into relatively large β1 and β precipitates by the *** peak-aged at 300℃,the pre-deformation obviously refined the β *** properties indicate that pre-deformation can increase the yield strength by 19MPa and 54MPa for the peak-aged alloy at 250℃ and 300℃,respectively,and will not obviously deteriorate the tensile elongations.

A Long-Range Generalized Predictive control Algorithm for a DFIG Based Wind Energy system

This paper presents a new Long-range generalized predictive controller in the synchronous reference frame for a wind energy system doubly-fed induction generator based. This controller uses the state space equations that consider the rotor current and voltage as state and control variables, to execute the predictive control action. Therefore, the model of the plant must be transformed into two discrete transference functions, by means of an auto-regressive moving average model, in order to attain a discrete and decoupled controller, which makes it possible to treat it as two independent single-input single-output systems instead of a magnetic coupled multiple-input multiple-output system. For achieving that, a direct power control strategy is used, based on the past and future rotor currents and voltages estimation. The algorithm evaluates the rotor current predictors for a defined prediction horizon and computes the new rotor voltages that must be injected to controlling the stator active and reactive powers. To evaluate the controller performance, some simulations were made using Matlab/simulink. Experimental tests were carried out with a small-scale prototype assuming normal operating conditions with constant and variable wind speed profiles. Finally, some conclusions respect to the dynamic performance of this new controller are summarized.

A study on Monte carlo simulation of the Radiation Environment above GeV at the DAMPE Orbit

The Dark Matter Particle Explorer(DAMPE)has been undergoing a stable on-orbit operation for more than 6 yr and acquired observations of over 11 billion events.A better understanding of the overall radiation environment of the DAMPE orbit is crucial for both simulation data production and fiight data *** this work,we study the radiation environment at low Earth orbit and develop a simulation software package using the framework of ATMNc3,in which state-of-the-art full 3D models of the Earth’s atmospheric and magnetic-field configurations are *** consider in our Monte carlo procedure event-by-event propagation of cosmic rays in the geomagnetic field and their interaction with the Earth’s atmosphere,focusing on the particles above Ge V that are able to trigger the DAMPE data acquisition *** compare the simulation results with the cosmic-ray electron and positron(cRE)fiux measurements made by *** overall agreement on both the spectral and angular distribution of the cRE fiux demonstrates that our simulation is well *** software package could be of more general usage for simulation of the radiation environment of low Earth orbit at various altitudes.

There exists a great need for the development of high performance alloys due to increasing demands for energy conservation and environmental protection. Application of strip casting shows a strong potential for the improvement of properties of existing alloys and also for the development of novel alloy systems with superior properties. The present paper reviews our center's activities in the development of high performance alloys by strip casting. Examples include (1) Al alloys, (2) wrought Mg alloys, and (3) bulk metallic glass (BMG) alloys.

Experimental and finite element analysis for fracture of coating layer of galvannealed steel sheet

Mechanical properties of galvannealed (GA) steel sheet used for automotive exposed panel and predicted failure phenomenon of its coating layer were evaluated using finite element method. V-bending test was performed to understand better the fracture of coating layer of GA steel sheet during plastic deformation. Yield strength of the coating layer was calculated by using a relative difference between hardness of coating layer measured from the nano-indentation test and that of substrate. To measure shearing strength at the interface between substrate and coating layer, shearing test with two specimens attached by an adhesive was carried out. Using the mechanical properties measured, a series of finite element analyses coupled with a failure model was performed. Results reveal that the fracture of coating layer occurs in an irregular manner at the region where compressive deformation is dominant. Meanwhile, a series of vertical cracks perpendicular to material surface are observed at the tensile stressed-region. It is found that 0.26-0.28 of local equivalent plastic strain exists at the coating and substrate at the beginning of failure. The fracture of coating layer depends on ductility of the coating layer considerably as well.

synthesis and characterization of Mesoporous Alumina via a Reverse Precipitation Method

Mesoporous aluminaΥ-AI203 with high specific surface area and large pore volume is prepared by using a facile reverse precipitation method from sodium aluminate and nitric acid. The effects of terminal pH value, aging time and thermal stability on the characterization of Υ-Al2Oa are studied by means of X-ray diffraction （XRD）, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy （FTIR）, Brunauer-Emmett-Teller （BET） method and scanning electron microscopy （sEM）. The results show that Υ-A1203 with better properties can be obtained by changing the preparation parameters. High BET surface area of 340 m2/g can be obtained by calcining at 500℃ for 4 h with large pore volume of 0.90 cm3/g and average pore size of 7.6 nm. After calcining at 1000°, the surface area is still 86 m2//g and the pore volume is 0.37 cm31/g.
