Fibers are increasingly in demand for a wide range of polymer composite *** study^purpose was the development of oil palm fiber(OPF)mixed with the thermoplastic material acrylonitrile butadiene styrene(ABS)as a composite filament for fused deposition modeling(FDM).The mechanical properties of this composite filament were then *** is a fiber extracted from empty fruit bunches,which has proved to be an excellent raw material for *** cellulose content of OPF is 43%-65%,and the lignin content is 13%-25%.The composite lilament consists of OPF(5%,mass fraction)in the ABS *** fabrication procedure included alkalinizing,drying,and crushing the OPF to develop the *** OPF/ABS materials were prepared and completely blended to acquire a mix of 250 g of the material for the ***,the FLD25 filament extrusion machine was used to form the OPF/ABS composite into a *** composite filament then was used in an FDM-based 3D printer to print the ***,the printed specimens were tested for mechanical properties such as tensile and flexural *** results show that the presence of OPF had increased the tensile strength and modulus elasticity by approximately 1.9%and 1.05%,***,the flexural strength of the OPF/ABS composite had decreased by 90.6%compared with the virgin ***,the most significant outcome of the OPF/ABS composite was its suitability for printing using the FDM method.

The aim of this research was to examine the effects of dietary inclusion of astaxanthin from Haematococcus pluvialis in commercial fish feed on the colour and growth of red tilapia,Oreochromis sp..A 6-week feeding trial was conducted at concentration of astaxanthin at 0%(T1),4%(T2),8%(T3)and 12%(T4)in feed formulation to examine the growth performance,colour pigmentation on skin,texture analysis and carotenoid *** showed an increment of certain growth parameter in fish fed with astaxanthin enriched *** in weight gain(WG),protein efficiency ratio(PER)was obtained in fish fed with astaxanthin enriched compared with *** treatments with astaxanthin-enriched provided higher redness(a*)to skin than negative control that directly influence the colour of the *** can be concluded that inclusion of astaxanthin from green algae into commercial fish feed can be used as an alternative natural carotenoid source in Oreochromis *** to ensure good pigmentation,hence improving the skin colour for more appealing and subsequently increase the market value of the fish.

Cardiovascular risk factors among older persons with cognitive frailty in middle income country

BACKGROUND Cognitive frailty,characterized by the coexistence of cognitive impairment and physical frailty,represents a multifaceted challenge in the aging *** role of cardiovascular risk factors in this complex interplay is not yet fully *** To investigate the relationships between cardiovascular risk factors and older persons with cognitive frailty by pooling data from two cohorts of studies in *** A comprehensive approach was employed,with a total of 512 communitydwelling older persons aged 60 years and above,involving two cohorts of older persons from previous *** related to cardiovascular risks,namely sociodemographic factors,and cardiovascular risk factors,including hypertension,diabetes,hypercholesterolemia,anthropometric characteristics and biochemical profiles,were pooled for *** frailty was defined based on the Clinical Dementia Rating scale and Fried frailty *** risk was determined using Framingham risk *** analyses were conducted using SPSS version *** Of the study participants,46.3%exhibited cognitive *** risk factors including hypertension(OR:1.60;95%CI:1.12-2.30),low fat-free mass(OR:0.96;95%CI:0.94-0.98),high percentage body fat(OR:1.04;95%CI:1.02-1.06),high waist circumference(OR:1.02;95%CI:1.01-1.04),high fasting blood glucose(OR:1.64;95%CI:1.11-2.43),high Framingham risk score(OR:1.65;95%CI:1.17-2.31),together with sociodemographic factors,i.e.,being single(OR 3.38;95%CI:2.26-5.05)and low household income(OR 2.18;95%CI:1.44-3.30)were found to be associated with cognitive *** Cardiovascular-risk specific risk factors and sociodemographic factors were associated with risk of cognitive frailty,a prodromal stage of *** identification and management of cardiovascular risk factors,particularly among specific group of the population might mitigate the risk of cognitive frailty,hence preventing dementia.

Worldwide there has been a significant increase in the incidence of oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma(OPSCC)etiologically attributed to oncogenic human papillomavirus(HPV).Reliable and accurate identification and detection tools are important as the incidence of HPV-related cancer is on the *** HPV detection methods for OPSCC have been developed and each has its own advantages and disadvantages in regard to sensitivity,specificity,and technical *** review summarizes our current knowledge of molecular methods for detecting HPV in OPSCC,including HPV DNA/RNA polymerase chain reaction(PCR),loop-mediated isothermal amplification(LAMP),p16 immunohistochemistry(IHC),and DNA/RNA in situ hybridization(ISH)*** summary may facilitate the selection of a suitable method for detecting HPV infection,and therefore may help in the early diagnosis of HPV-related carcinoma to reduce its mortality,incidence,and morbidity.

The distribution of benthic foraminiferal assemblages in the north-west coastal region of Malacca Straits,Malaysia

Objective:To investigate the spatial and temporal distribution of benthic foraminiferal assemblages in relation with environmental parameters in Penang Island(the northern part of Malacca Straits,west coast of Peninsula Malaysia).Methods:Foraminifera samples were obtained from 144 sediment samples collected bimonthly throughout a one year sampling period using Ponar *** samples were then fixed with 4%buffered formalin stained with Rose ***,salinity,dissolved oxygen and pH were detected in-situ at six sampling points within each transect approximately one metre above the *** samples collected was also used to determine particle ***:A total of fourteen benthic foraminiferal genera obtained from two major groups belonging to the calcareous and agglutinated groups have been identified at all four sampling locations throughout the sampling *** abundance of 13 out of 14 species were significantly affected by different sampling sites and times(P<0.05).Physicochemical variables comprising temperature,salinity,dissolved oxygen and pH differed among sites and sampling months(P<0.05).Conclusions:The distribution of foraminifera in terms of abundance and presence of species indicated dominance by calcareous genera of foraminifera contributed by significantly great abundances of Ammonia *** relatively low abundance of agglutinated *** pattern of distribution could indicate a close association between foraminifera and physicochemical parameters.

Establishment and Optimization Growth of Shoot Buds-Derived Callus and Suspension Cell Cultures of Kaempferia parviflora

Callus and suspension cells culture of Kaempferia parviflora was successfully established. Meristematic shoots can be used for utilization of plant cell biosynthetic capabilities for obtaining useful products from valuable medicinal plant to meet out the pharmaceutical demand and also for studying the metabolism. The medium containing combination of 0.2 mg/L 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) and 0.2 mg/L napthyleneacetic acid (NAA) promoted the highest callus induction at 20%. Transferring the initiated callus on the medium with 1 mg/L 2,4-D enhanced the proliferation rate up to maximum fresh weight of 6.71 gm. Growth curve of cultured cells revealed that the cells continued to grow until 50 days of culture and showed the highest peak (fresh weight) at 40 days in all different initial weight tested ( 0.2, 0.5 and 1.0 gram). Isolated embryogenic callus was found to produce the highest in weight when suspended in liquid medium supplemented with 1 mg/L 2,4-D at 110 rpm resulted 13.5 gram fresh weight and 1080 mg dry weight.

Direct Shoot Regeneration from Callus of Melicope lunu-ankenda

Melicope lunu-ankenda is commonly used in traditional medicine. The conventional propagation method for this species is inefficient due to low propagation rate and its lengthy period to maturity. In addition, insufficient planting materials often pose a problem for the plantation sector. The tissue culture technique is best alternative to overcome the problems. The callus induction and direct shoot regeneration protocols for M. lunu-ankenda were established. Callus was successfully initiated from leaves explants cultured in MS medium added with 2,4-D at concentrations 0.5 to 5.0 mg/L singly or in combination with NAA at concentrations 1.0 to 10 mg/L. Shoot was regenerated from callus in phytohormone-free medium, BAP at concentrations 0.5 - 5.0 mg/L singly or in combination of BAP with NAA or 2,4-D at concentration 0.5 and 1.0 mg/L, respectively. BAP at 1.0 mg/L induced the highest shoot regeneration rate (80%) and number of plantlet per calli. The established methods might be used for production of phytochemicals and plantlets in large scale.

Influence of contact pressure and sliding speed dependence on the tribological characteristics of an activated carbonepoxy composite derived from palm kernel under dry sliding conditions

The objective of this work is to investigate the influence of contact pressure and sliding speed on the coefficient of friction and wear of an activated carbon-epoxy composite derived from palm kernel under dry sliding conditions.A wear mode map approach was employed to identify the transitions from mild to severe wear of the *** dry sliding test was executed by utilizing a ball-on-disc tribometer at different contact pressures and sliding speeds with a constant sliding distance and operating *** results showed that,regardless of the sliding speed,the friction coefficient and wear rate of the composite increased drastically when a critical limit of contact pressure is *** for the sliding speed,both the friction coefficient and wear rate increased first and thereafter decreased at a higher speed of 500 rpm.A wear mode map is proposed to classify the boundary from mild to severe wear *** predominant wear failures identified include micro-crack,fine grooves,debonding,delamination,debris,broken carbon,and fracture.

Sonochemical synthesis of nanostructured nickel hydroxide as an electrode material for improved electrochemical energy storage application

A facile and fast approach for the synthesis of a nanostructured nickel hydroxide(Ni（OH）;) via sonochemical technique is reported in the present study. The X-ray diffraction results confirmed that the synthesized Ni（OH）;was oriented in β-phase of hexagonal brucite structure. The nanostructured Ni（OH）;electrode exhibited the maximum specific capacitance of 1256 F/g at a current density of 200 mA/g in 1 M KOH;. Ni（OH）;electrodes exhibited the pseudocapacitive behavior due to the presence of redox reaction. It also exhibited long-term cyclic stability of 85% after 2000 cycles, suggesting that the nanostructured Ni（OH）;electrode will play a promising role for high performance supercapacitor application.

Plantlets of Curcuma caesia were produced in vitro from newly sprouting vegetative buds of tubers. Segments of the plantlets from the junction between the root and the basal portion of the stem were subsequently used as explants to investigate factors affecting callus induction and plant regeneration via somatic embryogenesis. The explants were placed on Woody Plant Medium (WPM) together with different concentrations of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid(2,4-D) and benzyl aminopurine (BAP) in the presence of light. The growth medium supplemented with 5 mg/L BAP and 2 mg/L 2,4-D promoted callus induction after 70 days of culture. Sub-culturing on the same medium enhanced the production of friable callus. Culture media containing higher concentrations of agar promoted the development of green somatic embryos from the callus. Respond of somatic embryogenesis was most successful with MS medium in 6.0 g/L agar supplemented with 5 mg/L BAP and 0.2 mg/L 2,4-D whereby the callus developed into green somatic embryos with an efficiency of 53%. This culture medium also produced the largest number plantlets.
