Diabetes mellitus （DM） is a most common endocrine disorder and it is characterized by high serum glucose levels and by disturbance of lipid metabolism. As a result, the patients can develop long-term systemic complications. Numerous skin lesions are associated with either type 1 or type 2 diabetes mellitus, and they are specific chronic complications of the disease. Cutaneous xanthomas result from deposition of lipids in the histiocytes in the dermis or subcutaneous tissue. Eruptive xanthomas are a characteristic, but uncommon complication of diabetes mellitus associated with a more sustained hyperlipidemia affecting plasma triglycerides and cholesterol, and hyperglycemia with glycosuria.

Objective The effect of oral cadmium(Cd)intake to influence contact skin allergies was examined,since it is known that Cd is a heavy metal that affects many tissues,including the skin,in which it disturbs homeostasis,thus resulting in inflammation and *** Male rats were evoked with experimental contact hypersensitivity reaction(CHS)to hapten dinitrochlorobenzene(DNCB),after prolonged(30 day)oral exposure to an environmentally relevant Cd dose(5 ppm).The ear cell population was analyzed with flow *** production by ear skin cells and the activity of skin-draining lymph node(DLN)cells were measured using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA).Results Orally acquired Cd(5 ppm)increased CHS intensity only in Dark Agouti(DA)rats by affecting inflammatory responses in both the sensitization(an increase of IFN-γ and IL-17 cytokine production)and challenge(an increase of CD8^(+)and CD4^(+)cell number and TNF,IFN-γ and IL-17 cytokine production)*** increased CHS reaction was seen in Albino Oxford(AO)rats only at a high Cd dose(50 ppm),during the challenge phase(an increase of CD8^(+)and CD4^(+)cell number and TNF,IFN-γ and IL-17 cytokine production).Conclusion These novel data indicate that oral Cd intensifies the skin response to sensitizing chemicals such as DNCB.

Acute pancreatitis(AP) is common gastrointestinal disease of varied aetiology. The most common cause of AP is gallstones, followed by alcohol abuse as an independent risk factor. With the increased need for invasive techniques to treat pancreatic and bile duct pathologies such as endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography(ERCP), AP has emerged as the most frequent complication. While severe AP following ERCP is rare(0.5%), if it does develop it has a greater severity index compared to non-ERCP AP. Development of a mild form of AP after ERCP is not considered a clinically relevant condition. Differences in the clinical presentation and prognosis of the mild and severe forms have been found between non-ERCP AP and postendoscopic pancreatitis(PEP). It has been proposedthat AP and PEP may also have different immunological responses to the initial injury. In this review, we summarise the literature on clinical and inflammatory processes in PEP vs non-ERCP AP.

Changes in gut microbiota influence both the gut and liver,which are strictly connected by the so-called“gut-liver axis”.The gut microbiota acts as a major determinant of this relationship in the onset and clinical course of liver *** to the results of several studies,gut dysbiosis is linked to viral hepatitis,mainly hepatitis C virus and hepatitis B virus *** bacteriaderived metabolites and cellular components are key molecules that affect liver function and modulate the pathology of viral *** studies showed that the gut microbiota produces various molecules,such as peptidoglycans,lipopolysaccharides,DNA,lipoteichoic acid,indole-derivatives,bile acids,and trimethylamine,which are translocated to the liver and interact with liver immune cells causing pathological ***,the existence of crosstalk between the gut microbiota and the liver and its implications on host health and pathologic status are essential factors impacting the etiology and therapeutic *** mechanisms behind the pathogenic role of gut-derived components on the pathogenesis of viral hepatitis remain unclear and not *** this review,we discuss the current findings of research on the bidirectional relationship of the components of gut microbiota and the progression of liver diseases and viral hepatitis and vice ***,this paper highlights the current therapeutic and preventive strategies,such as fecal transplantation,used to restore the gut microbiota composition and so improve host health.

The aim of this study was to investigate the relationships between sport and community by examining the role played by sports participation in community engagement and community capacity building in disadvantaged urban *** a conceptual standpoint,the study is based on the sociological theory of the community and Community Capacity Building(CCB)theory,which provide overviews of the concept of community and community capacity and its *** disadvantaged urban communities were *** of these communities had sports programs,while the other two did *** online questionnaire methodology was adopted to assess the socio-demographic characteristics and community engagement of the participants(knowledge of programs and participation in community activities),and subsequently,an analysis of the online social media narratives of the community members themselves was developed to measure the characteristics of their community capacity *** found that community engagement and community capacity values were higher in the communities with sports *** findings are promising and suggest that approaches based on sports participation development could be fruitful,particularly in disadvantaged communities.

Mean age of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) patients has been progressively increasing over the last decades and ageing of these patients is becoming a real challenge in every day clinical practice. Unfortunately, international guidelines on HCC management do not address this problem exhaustively and do not provide any specific recommendation. We carried out a literature search in MEDLINE database for studies reporting on epidemiology, clinical characteristics and treatment outcome of HCC in elderly patients. Available data seem to indicate that in elderly patients the outcome of HCC is mostly influenced by liver function and tumor stage rather than by age and the latter should not influence treatment allocation. Age is not a risk for resection and older patients with resectable HCC and good liver function could gain benefit from surgery. Mild comorbidities do not seem a contraindication for surgery in aged patients. Conversely, major resection in elderly, even when performed in experienced high-volume centres, should be avoided. Both percutaneous ablation and transarterial chemoembolization are not contraindicated in aged patients and safety profile of these procedures is acceptable. Sorafenib is a viable option for advanced HCC in elderly provided that a careful evaluation of concomitant comorbidities, particularly cardiovascular ones, is taken into account. Available data seem to suggest that in either elderly and younger, treatment is a main predictor of outcome. Consequently, a nihilistic attitude of physicians towards under- or no-treatment of aged patients should not be longer justified.

ß-Glucosidases(ßGL)-widely used in the enological field-are enzymes that catalyze the liberation of aromatic volatiles from their glycosidic precursors during *** the present study,aßGL obtained from the Antarctic yeast Mrakia *** 7.1.2016 was produced on a bioreactor scale,purified,characterized,and the enzyme’s properties studied for a potential enological ***-dodecylsulfate-polyacrylamide-gel electrophoresis indicated a high molecular weight for this enzyme,it having at least two subunits of 134 and 14 kDa.ßGL exhibited a pH optimum of 5.0 and retained substantial activity and stability at pH *** temperature range for optimal activity was 50-55℃,with the enzyme demonstrating thermostability up to 50℃ and retaining 87%of residual activity at that temperature after 3 *** respective kinetic constants determined with p-nitrophenyl-ß-D-glucopyranoside and cellobiose were 0.38 and 1.79 mM for Km and 20.1 and 5.65μmol^(-1)mg^(-1)min^(.1) for Vmax,ß-Glucosidase manifested high activity in 10-25%(v/v)ethanol,30.0 mg L^(-1)sulfur dioxide,and 10-200 g L^(-1)fructose;but it was strongly inhibited by glucose,retaining only 6%of residual activity in the presence of 20 g L^(-1).Upon investigating the influence of the enzyme on Muscat-wine glycosidic precursors,we found significant differences in terpene content after 14 days ofßGL treatment at an eightfold increase over control-wine *** enzyme was more active toward the precursors of the monoterpenes nerol and geraniol and oxides of trans-and *** findings contribute to our understanding of the potential of cold-active enzymes in advantageous biotechnological applications to enology.

Media Sporting Events as Platforms for‘Soft Power’and Digital Activism

Mediatic sporting events are increasingly used in the geopolitical arena to gain consensus, at the same time emerging as platforms for the discussion of social issues, such as human rights and sustainability. This article presents an investigation into the role of mediatic sporting events and digital platforms in sparking political debate and social engagement to bring about change, including discussions on global and local interests and the performances of activist fans to promote debate on specific issues. The investigation employs a quantitative methodology. The initial inductive analysis uses a matrix of cultural key-frames of the empowerment and protest that accompany media sporting events, verifying their presence and effectiveness in different communication milieus. An analysis of the representation of protests on social media was performed through content analysis. The results of the investigation show that mediatic sporting events are to be understood as a diverse range of generators of multiple political effects: from the exercise of power to mass mobilization and media criticism.
