Colony contact contributes to the diversity of gut bacteria in bumblebees （Bombus terrestris）

Social bees, like honeybees and bumblebees, have a close contact with nest mates of different developmental stages and generations. This could enhance bacterial transfer between nest mates and offers opportunities for direct transfer of symbionts from one generation to the next, resulting in a stable host specific gut microbiota. Gut sym- bionts of honeybees and bumblebees have been suggested to contribute in digestion and protection against parasites and pathogens. Here we studied the impact of contact with the bumblebee colony on the colonization potential of the bacterial families （i.e., Neisseri- aceae, Orbaceae, Lactobacillaceae and Bifidobacteriaceae） occurring in the gut of adult bumblebees （Bombus terrestris）. Bacterial profiles of the gut microbiota of B. terrestris were determined based on the hypervariable v4 region of the 16S rRNA using paired-end Illumina sequencing. In our experiments, we created different groups in which we grad- ually reduced the contact with nest mates and hive material. We made 3 observations：（i） reducing the contact between the colony and the bumblebee during adult life resulted in a significant drop in the relative abundance ofLactobacillus bombicola and Lactobacillus bombi; （ii） Bifidobacteriaceae required contact with nest mates to colonize the gut of B. terrestris and a significant lower bacterial diversity was observed in bumblebees that were completely excluded from colony contact during the adult life; （iii） Snodgrassella and Gilliamella were able to colonize the gut of the adult bumblebee without any direct contact with nest mates in the adult life stage. These results indicate the impact of the colony life on the diversity of the characteristic bumblebee gut bacteria.

EUS diagnosis of ectopic opening of the common bile duct in the duodenal bulb: A case report

Among the various congenital anomalies of the biliary system,an ectopic opening of the common bile duct (CBD) in the duodenal bulb is extremely rare. ERCP is essential for diagnosing the anomaly. A 55-year-old male was admitted to hospital for severe right upper quadrant abdominal pain,followed by fever, chills, elevated body temperature and mild icterus. The diagnosis of ectopic opening of CBD in the duodenal bulb was established on endoscopic ultraso-nography (EUS),which clearly demonstrated dilated CBD, with multiple stones and air in the lumen, draining into the bulb. A normal pancreatic duct, which did not drain into the bulb, was also observed. This finding was confirmed on ERCP and *** far as we know, this is the first case of this anomaly diagnosed by EUS. Ectopic opening of the CBD in the duodenal bulb is not an incidental finding, but a pathologic condition which can be associated with clinical entities such as recurrent or intractable duodenal ulcer, recurrent biliary pain,choledocholithiasis or acute cholangitis. Endoscopic ultrasonography features allow preoperative diagnosis of this anomaly and can replace ERCP as a first diagnostic tool in such clinical circumstances. Embryology of the anomalies of the extrahepatic biliary tree has been also reviewed.

Compelling evidence supports the crucial role of the receptor for advanced glycation end-products(RAGE)axis activation in many clinical *** the beginning of the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic,there is an increasing concern about the risk and handling of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-Cov-2)infection in inflammatory gastrointestinal disorders,such as inflammatory bowel diseases(IBD).However,clinical data raised during pandemic suggests that IBD patients do not have an increased risk of contracting SARS-Cov-2 infection or develop a more severe course of *** the present review,we intend to highlight how two potentially important contributors to the inflammatory response to SARS-Cov-2 infection in IBD patients,the RAGE axis activation as well as the cross-talk with the renin-angiotensin system,are dampened by the high expression of soluble forms of both RAGE and the angiotensin-converting enzyme(ACE)*** soluble form of RAGE functions as a decoy for its ligands,and soluble ACE2 seems to be an additionally attenuating contributor to RAGE axis activation,particularly by avoiding the transactivation of the RAGE axis that can be produced by the virus-mediated imbalance of the ACE/angiotensin II/angiotensin II receptor type 1 pathway.

Outcomes of robotic vs laparoscopic hepatectomy:A systematic review and meta-analysis

AIM: To perform a systematic review and metaanalysis on robotic-assisted vs laparoscopic liver ***: A systematic literature search was performed using Pub Med, Scopus and the Cochrane Library Central. Participants of any age and sex, who underwent robotic or laparoscopic liver resection were considered following these criteria:(1) studies comparing robotic and laparoscopic liver resection;(2) studies reporting at least one perioperative outcome; and(3) if more than one study was reported by the same institute, only the most recent was included. The primary outcome measures were set for estimated blood loss, operative time, conversion rate, R1 resection rate, morbidity and mortality rates, hospital stay and major hepatectomy ***: A total of 7 articles, published between 2010 and 2014, fulfilled the selection criteria. The laparoscopic approach was associated with a significant reduction in blood loss and lower operative time(MD = 83.96, 95%CI: 10.51-157.41, P = 0.03; MD = 68.43, 95%CI: 39.22-97.65, P vely). No differences were found with respect to conversion rate, R1 resection rate, morbidity and hospital ***: Laparoscopic liver resection resulted in reduced blood loss and shorter surgical times compared to robotic liver resections. There was no difference in conversion rate, R1 resection rate, morbidity and length of postoperative stay.

Resistance of LEDs Based on AIGalnP Heterostructures to Irradiation by Fast Neutrons

The change of light output power of LEDs based on A1GalnP heterostructures with multiple quantum wells （590 nm and 630 nm） under irradiation by fast neutrons depends on the operating current density. It can be distinguished the regions of high, average and low electron injection. Operating current, this corresponds to the position of the boundary between the selected levels of the electron injection, increases with increasing neutron fluence. The final stage of the reducing process of the light output power under irradiation is the regime of low electron injection. The relative change in light output power depends on the operating current （operating current density） and can be described by a fairly simple equation. Established relations predict radiation resistance of LEDs, and it makes the most rational justification of operating modes of light-emitting diodes in terms of radiation resistance.

Efficient and stable oxygen evolution electrocatalysts are indispensable for industrial applications of water splitting and hydrogen ***,a simple and practical method was applied to fabricate(Mo,Fe)P2O7@NF electrocatalyst by directly growing Mo/Fe bimetallic pyrophosphate derived from Prussian blue analogues on three-dimensional porous current *** alkaline media,the developed material possesses good hydrophilic features and exhibits best-in-class oxygen evolution reaction(OER)***,the(Mo,Fe)P_(2)O_(7)@NF only requires overpotentials of 250 and 290 mv to deliver 100 and 600 mA cm^(-2)in 1 mol L^(-1)KOH,***,the(Mo,Fe)P_(2)O_(7)@NF shows outstanding performances in alkaline salty water and 1 mol L^(-1)high purity KOH.A worthwhile pathway is provided to combine bimetallic pyrophosphate with commercial Ni foam to form robust electrocatalysts for stable electrocatalytic OER,which has a positive impact on both hydrogen energy application and environmental restoration.
