Retinal and optic nerve diseases are deg.nerative ocular patholog.es which lead to irreversible visual loss. Since the advanced therapies availability, cell-based therapies offer a new all-encompassing.approach. Advances in the knowledg. of neuroprotection, immunomodulation and reg.nerative properties of mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs) have been obtained by several preclinical studies of various neurodeg.nerative diseases. It has provided the opportunity to perform the translation of this knowledg. to prospective treatment approaches for clinical practice. Since 2008, several first steps projecting.new treatment approaches, have been taken reg.rding.the use of cell therapy in patients with neurodeg.nerative patholog.es of optic nerve and retina. Most of the clinical trials using.MSCs are in Ⅰ/Ⅱ phase, recruiting.patients or ong.ing. and they have as main objective the safety assessment of MSCs using.various routes of administration. However, it is important to recog.ize that, there is still a long.way to g. to reach clinical trials phase Ⅲ-Ⅳ. Hence, it is necessary to continue preclinical and clinical studies to improve this new therapeutic tool. This paper reviews the latest prog.ess of MSCs in human clinical trials for retinal and optic nerve diseases.

Objective To assess the prog.ostic impact of a routine invasive strateg. according.to the frailty burden in patients with non-ST-seg.ent elevation myocardial infarction(nSTEMI)from the MOSCA-FRAIL clinical *** The MOSCA-FRAIL trial randomized 167 frail patients,defined by a Clinical Frailty Scale(CFS)≥4,with nSTEMI to an invasive or conservative *** primary endpoint was the number of days alive and out of hospital(DAOH)one year after *** this subanalysis,we compared the impact of an invasive strateg. on the outcomes between vulnerable(CFS=4,n=43)and frail(CFS>4,n=124)*** Compared to vulnerable patients,frail patients presented lower values of DAOH(289.8 vs.320.6,P=0.146),more read-missions(1.03 vs.0.58,P=0.046)and hig.er number of days spent at the hospital during.the first year(10.8 vs.3.8,P=0.014).The cau-ses of readmission were mostly non-cardiac(56%).Among.vulnerable patients,DAOH were similar reg.rdless of strateg.(invasive ***:325.7 vs.314.7,P=0.684).Among.frailest patients,the invasive g.oup tended to have less DAOH(267.7 vs.311.1,P=0.117).Indeed,patients with CFS>4,invasively manag.d lived 29 days less than their conservative *** contrast,the-re were no differences in the subg.oup with CFS=*** Adult patients with frailty and nSTEMI showed different prog.osis according.to the deg.ee of frailty.A routine in-vasive strateg. does not improve outcomes and mig.t be harmful to the frailest patients.

Measurement of Arsenic Species in Infant Rice Cereals by Liquid Chromatog.aphy Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry

Infant rice cereals were analyzed for total arsenic, inorg.nic arsenic (i-As) and the org.nic arsenic species monomethylarsonoic acid (MMA) and dimethylarsinic acid (DMA) using.liquid chromatog.aphy inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LC-ICP-MS). Total arsenic concentrations in the samples rang.d from 110 ng.g.p to 420 ng.g. The i-As in the rice cereals accounted for 33% to 77% of the total arsenic. The observed variability between infant rice cereals makes a dietary survey approach to accessing.arsenic exposures difficult.

The orig.nal modified method of the direct delayed reaction has been used for the evaluation of food-obtaining.strateg. across spatial learning.tasks in T-maze alternation. The optimal behavioral alg.rithms for each experimental day have been identified so that the animals obtain maximum possible food amount with minimal number of mistakes. Markov chain method has been used for the prog.osis of rat’s behavioral strateg. during.the spatial learning.task. The learning.and decision-making.represent the probabilistic transition process where the animal choice at each step (state) depends on the learning.experience from previous step (state).

Apple Extracts Present Catabolic and Hipocolesterolemic Effect in Mice

Dyslipidemia is hig.ly prevalent in the Chilean population: about 40% have total cholesterol levels over 200 mg.dl and 25% are obese (BMI > 30) which produces an increased risk of cardiovascular disease and deaths. Over consumption of foods rich in lipids and carbohydrates unchains these events, due to the hig. amount of lipid accumulation in adipocytes. These cells are capable of producing.a larg. number of mediators of inflammation and adipokines which in larg. quantities can compromise the overall metabolism. Apple has been shown to stop these events. We used CF-1 mice that were fed on a hig.-fat diet which leads to a metabolic status similar to dyslipidemia. Different types of apple waste were direct from orchard and fruit industry. Extracts obtained were characterized and administered in drinking.water. At the end of the 40-day experimental period, biochemical parameters in animals were measured and the weig.t of white adipose tissue (WAT) was quantified. The results were compared with the normal diet and fat diet controls. All apple extracts decrease total and LDL cholesterol to levels similar to normal control and decrease WAT. Apple extracts may be an effective protector ag.inst development of risk factors in cardiovascular disease in the Chilean population.

Both arterial and venous thromboembolic events are common in patients hospitalized in intensive care units with severe COVID-19. These patients often have laboratory finding. consistent with a hypercoag.lable state, sug.esting.widespread thrombosis and fibrinolysis, as well as elevated levels of D-dimer, von Willebrand factor (VWF), and factor VIII. There is increasing.evidence that these thromboembolic events are associated with worse outcomes. We present the case of a 61-year-old man admitted for bilateral pneumonia due to COVID-19 infection, who developed during.his hospitalization;Bilateral pulmonary thromboembolism, an acute myocardial infarction due to multiple coronary thrombosis, an intracavitary thrombus and thrombus in the ascending.aorta. The patient was treated with systemic fibrinolysis and full doses of anticoag.lation for pulmonary embolism, an emerg.ncy primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) was performed with the implant of a drug.eluting.stent (DES) in the left anterior descending.artery (LAD). Triple therapy with aspirin, clopidog.el and heparin was maintained until discharg.. After the patient discharg., aspirin was stopped and treatment with clopidog.el and dabig.tran was maintained for three months. In a subsequent outpatient control, the thrombi of the left ventricle and the ascending.aorta resolved.

Perceived Barriers to Physical Activity and Related Factors in Spanish University Students

Objective: The purpose of this study was to identify the influence of readiness of chang. for physical activity (PA), sociodemog.aphic factors, lifestyle and physical activity status (PAS) on perceived barriers among.Spanish university students. Participants: Seven hundred and seventy two (n = 772) men and women ag.s 17-39 at a north-west reg.onal university in Spain participated in the study. Methods: The International Physical Activity Questionnaire, the States of Chang. for Physical Activity Behaviour Questionnaire and the Self-perceived Barriers for Physical Activity Questionnaire were used. Description, correlation and multiple reg.ession analyses were completed. Results: Participants self-perceived low averag.-score barriers (2.6 ± 1.4 over 10.0). The 3-hig.er scores barriers corresponded to “too much work”;“lack of time for exercise” and “laziness”. g.nder, PAS and self-perceived health were shown to be associated with perceived barriers. Conclusions: University institutions should consider those factors that predict barriers to PA to develop effective intervention prog.ams.

Memory traces become labile at the time of retrieval, and this initiates two protein synthesis-dependent processes in the brain: extinction, which inhibits their further retrieval, and reconsolidation, which may enhance retrieval or chang. the memory’s content. Extinction may itself suffer reconsolidation. Interactions between these processes may be applied to the treatment of fear memories, such as those underlying.the post-traumatic stress disorder.

In this paper, we prove the existence of a limit cycle for a g.0} system of differential equations corresponding.to an asymmetrical intrag.ild food web model with functional responses Holling.type II for the middle and top predators and log.stic g.ow for the (common) prey. The existence of such limit cycle is g.aranteed, via the first Lyapunov coefficient and the Andronov-Hopf bifurcation theorem, under certain conditions for the parameters involved in the system.
