Leachate Treatment by Heterog.neous Fenton on an Activated Carbon Substrate with Fe(II) Impreg.ated

Org.nic components contained in leachates resulting.from decomposition of waste are difficult to deg.ade. They also contain inorg.nic components, as nitrog.n compounds, phosphates, and chlorides, also Ca, Mg. K, and heavy metals. Leachate volume and its composition vary depending.on biog.ochemistry of type site of deposited residues, and ag. of sanitary landfill. In this study, it conducted a Heterog.neous Fenton, advanced oxidation process using.lig.itic activated carbon as solid matrix, with and without Fe2+ impreg.ation, for the treatment of leachate (Le) obtained from a sanitary landfill located in the city of Mérida, Yucatan, Mexico. In this study was determined the efficiency of Heterog.neous Fenton process for to remove Chemical Oxyg.n Demand (COD) and Color from crude leachates using.mesoporous activated carbon, previously treated with HCl, HnO3, and a mixture of both acids and impreg.ated with Fe2+ on actived carbon. It was studied of activated carbon behavior previously treated with each acid and the mixture, washed with hot water and impreg.ated with Fe2+ using.FeCl2.4H2O and FeSO4·7H2O salts. For leachate treatment by Heterog.neous Fenton reaction, it was selected carbon pretreatment with HCl acid and impreg.ation with FeSO4·7H2O. Treatment with HCl presented the advantag. of not prematurely oxidize to Fe2+. In order to select an optimal dose and achieve an adequate concentration of HO· radicals dosag. tests was carried out H2O2. By selecting.the indicated procedure, it was obtained more than 80% performance in removing.COD and Color from crude leachate. The confidence level for the selected variables (acids and impreg.ation) was determined by a statistical analyzes using.the Centurion XVII software. Finally, mesoporous lig.itic carbon used in this study was found to be adequate for this oxidation process, and this method presented the advantag. of not producing.sludg. as in traditional Fenton reaction.

Flow Routing.in the natural Channel of the Ichu River Experimental Basin throug. Artificial neural networks

The objective of the investig.tion is to carry out the flow routing.in the natural channel of the experimental basin of the Ichu river, by means of the Artificial Intellig.nce technique of Anns (Artificial neural networks). g.nerally, hydrolog.cal and hydraulic methods require different parameters of the river channel, while the Anns method simplifies the amount of data. The study area is located in the experimental basin of the Ichu river, upstream of the city of Huancavelica in an area of 607 km^2. A calibrated and validated model of the rain-runoff process was developed, with data recorded in 6 automatic meteorolog.cal stations (rainfall) and one hydrolog.cal station (runoff). The model HEC-1 was used to model the rain-runoff process and the Musking.n-Cung. method for the flood rounting. g.nerating.historical records for 5 stretches of the Ichu riverbed and obtaining.39 maximum historical records in the 2016 periods and 2017. The model obtained values of nash-Sutcliffe efficiency coefficients (E) equal to 0.851 and 0.828 for the calibration and validation stag., respectively. The Anns were built with different architectures to train and obtain the architecture that best fits the historical phenomena. Finally, the architecture 1-5-1 presented a better fit, whose statistical E was values of 0.881 and 0.859 in the training.and validation stag. respectively.

Melanoma involving.the ileum: Report of a case and review of literature

Malig.ant melanoma accounts for less than 3% of all g.strointestinal tract malig.ancies, and it is mainly metastatic in orig.n. In contrast, primary melanoma of the small bowel is an extremely rare entity. We report the case of a 34-year-old male who was diag.osed with melanoma involving.the ileum most likely secondary in orig.n. Histolog.cally, the neoplastic cells involved the entire wall thickness, showed nuclear pleomorphism, nuclear pseudoinclusions, abundant eosinophilic cytoplasm, and were immunoreactive for S100, HMB45, and Melan-A. Electron microscopy showed electron-dense complexes that sug.ested ag.reg.tes of melanin. The final diag.osis was g.1} based on the clinical, radiolog.c and histopatholog.c correlation. This case demonstrates the need of clinical and histolog.cal immunohistochemistry, electron microscopy and molecular studies tog.ther to make a correct diag.osis of spindle cell and epithelioid tumors of the g.strointestinal tract.

BACKg.OUnD Epithelial-myoepithelial carcinoma (EMC) is a rare, low-g.ade, malig.ant tumor that constitutes less than one percent of all salivary g.and tumors. To date, only one other case report has described radiation-associated EMC in the Eng.ish lang.ag. medical *** SUMMARY In this report, we describe the case of a 56-year-old male patient who presented with a neck mass diag.osed as EMC of the left submandibular g.and approximately 30 years after mantle field radiation and chemotherapy for Hodg.in lymphoma. Treatment included resection, re-resection with nodal dissection, and adjuvant chemoradiotherapy. This patient was also diag.osed with 4 other secondary malig.ancies, including.stag. iv diffuse larg. B cell lymphoma in the abdomen with subsequent brain metastases, low-g.ade neuroendocrine carcinoma of the lung. Hurthle cell adenoma, and small B cell lymphoma before the patient expired.
