Retinal and optic nerve diseases are degenerative ocular pathologies which lead to irreversible visual loss. Since the advanced therapies availability. cell-based therapies offer a new all-encompassing approach. Advances in the knowledge of neuroprotection, immunomodulation and regenerative properties of mesenchy.al stem cells(MSCs) have been obtained by.several preclinical studies of various neurodegenerative diseases. It has provided the opportunity.to perform the translation of this knowledge to prospective treatment approaches for clinical practice. Since 2008, several first steps projecting new treatment approaches, have been taken regarding the use of cell therapy.in patients with neurodegenerative pathologies of optic nerve and retina. Most of the clinical trials using MSCs are in Ⅰ/Ⅱ phase, recruiting patients or ongoing, and they.have as main objective the safety.assessment of MSCs using various routes of administration. However, it is important to recognize that, there is still a long way.to go to reach clinical trials phase Ⅲ-Ⅳ. Hence, it is necessary.to continue preclinical and clinical studies to improve this new therapeutic tool. This paper reviews the latest progress of MSCs in human clinical trials for retinal and optic nerve diseases.

Study.ng the causes of parasite geographic distribution is relevant to understand ecological and evolutionary.processes that affect host populations as well as for species conservation. Temperature is one of the most important environmental variables affecting parasite distribution, as raising temperatures positively.affect development, reproduction, and rate of transmission of both endo- and ectoparasites. In this context, it is generally.accepted that, in mountains, parasite abundance decreases with elevation. However, empirical evidence on this topic is limited. In the present study. we analy.ed the elevational variation of hemoparasites and ectoparasites of a lizard, , along a 2,200-m elevational gradient in Sierra nevada (SE Spain). As predicted, ectoparasite (mites, ticks, mosquitoes, and sandflies) abundance decreased with elevation. However, hemoparasite prevalence and intensity.in the lizard augmented with altitude, showing a pattern contrary.to their vectors (mites). We suggest that tolerance to hemoparasites may.increase with elevation as a consequence of lizards at high altitudes taking advantage of increased body.condition and food availability. and reduced oxidative stress. Moreover, lizards could have been selected for higher resistance against hemoparasites at lowlands (where higher rates of replication are expected), thus reducing hemoparasite prevalence and load. Our findings imply.that, in a scenario of climate warming, populations of lizards at high elevation may.face increased abundance of ectoparasites, accompanied with strong negative effects.

Lifespan is one of the main components of life history.Shorter lifespans can be expected in marginal habitats.However,in the case of ectotherms,lifespan ty.ically.increases with altitude,even though temperature-one of the main factors to determine ectotherms'life history.declines with elevation.This pattern can be explained by.the fact that a shorter activity.time favors survival.In this study.we analy.ed how lifespan and other life-history.traits of the lizard Psammodromus algirus vary.along a 2,200 m elevational gradient in Sierra nevada(SE Spain).Populations at inter-mediate altitudes(1,200-1,700 m),corresponding to the optimal habitat for this species,had the shortest lifespans,whereas populations inhabiting marginal habitats(at both low and at high altitudes)lived longest.Therefore,this lizard did not follow the ty.ical pattern of ectotherms,as it also lived longer at the lower limit of its distribution,nor did it show a longer lifespan in areas with optimal habitats.These results might be explained by.a complex combination of different gradients along the mountain,namely.that activity.time decreases with altitude whereas food availability.increases.This could explain why.lifespan was maximum at both high(limited activity.time)and low(limited food availability.altitudes,resulting in similar lifespans in areas with contrasting environmental conditions.Our findings also indicated that reproductive investment and body.condition increase with elevation,suggesting that alpine populations are locally.adapted.

为验证降低日粮蛋白质水平并补充晶体氨基酸是否可以提高氨基酸用于泌乳母猪产奶的使用效率,试验选用3种日粮,蛋白质含量分别为9.5%(不足型)、13.5%(理想型)和17.5%(标准型)饲喂泌乳母猪,各日粮氨基酸水平相同。检测乳腺氨基酸动静脉浓度差(A-V)、氨基酸运输效率(A-V/A×100)、氨基酸转运载体和乳蛋白基因的转录丰度。在第7和18天,收集采食后动脉、乳腺静脉血液和乳腺组织样品。使用定量PCR测定氨基酸转运载体b0,+AT(SLC7A9)、y.LAT2(SLC7A6)、ATB0,+(SLC6A14)、CAT-1(SLC7A1)、CAT-2b(SLC7A2)以及β酪蛋白(CSn2)和α乳清蛋白(LALBA)的转录丰度。结果表明,随着蛋白质含量从不足型到标准型逐渐增加,仔猪日增重呈曲线上升(线性和二次方,Py.)比值呈二次方降低(Pn2和LALBA的基因表达不受日粮影响。总之,日粮蛋白质含量从17.5%下降到13.5%,并补充晶体氨基酸并不影响仔猪日增重,氨基酸转运载体或乳蛋白基因的表达,但可以增加泌乳第7天乳腺运输效率和赖氨酸与精氨酸动静脉浓度差。这种增加与血液BCAA∶Ly.比值下降有关,表明氨基酸运输至乳腺细胞时,阳离子型AA和BCAA之间存在竞争机制。

The aim of the present study.was to evaluate the ixodicide efficacy.of the experimental compound 712-BF-016 against Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) microplus ticks in vitro and in cattle. The in vitro efficacy.was initially.tested against R. Boophilus microplus larvae using the Larval Packet Test (LPT). In a 2nd study.the ixodicide efficacy.was tested against adult ticks using the Adult Inmersion Test (AIT). Finally. a field test with the compound was carried out using 24 steers experimentally.infested with R. (Boophilus) microplus ticks which were divided into 4 groups of 6 animals each for treatment. Groups 1 and 2 received the experimental compound at concentrations of 16% and 20%, respectively. which were applied as an aspersion in a total volume of 4 liters/animal. Group 3 was equally.treated but with a commercial ixodicide containing cipermethrin at a 16% concentration. Group 4 served as untreated control. The efficacy.was measured on day. 1, 2, 3 after treatment as the percentage of ticks present from the treated groups, relative to the ticks present in the untreated control. The results indicated a percentage mortality.of 93.21% for LPT and 98.02% for AIT. The efficacy.produced in cattle was 61.78%, 76.43% and 85.34% for groups 1, 2 y.3, respectively. It is concluded that there was no concordance between the results obtained in vitro with those found in cattle. Possibly.the excipient used for the formulation of the experimental compound was not suitable and had some influence on the results.

Aim: To develop an HPLC method to quantify.midazolam in a new oral formulation for pediatric use. Methods: The stability.of the new formulation was evaluated at different storage conditions and a preliminary.assay.of relative bioavailability.was carried out in healthy.volunteers. Results: The method of quantification was linear in the range of 5 to 60 μg·mL-1. The midazolam amount in the formulation remained stable for 90 day. at 4 and 40℃ (in the dark) while at 25℃ was stable only.for 14 day. (exposed to light). Discussion: The relative bioavailability.assay.suggests that our preparation of midazolam in white chocolate reaches plasma levels similar to those induced by.the apple juice formulation. Conclusion: This new white chocolate formulation masks the unpleasing flavour and has a more attractive presentation to the paediatric patient, which may.be useful for children sedation and to ease its management by.health carers.

Glycine crystallizes into three different polymorphs called α, β and γ under standard physicochemical conditions. They have different features depending on their structural variations. The possible interaction of glycine with magnetic minerals in meteorites and comets or in the ancient Earth, paves the way to study the self-assembly and molecular behavior under irradiation and magnetic conditions. The magnetic field might induce the formation of a specific polymorph of glycine. To gain insight on the consequences of gamma irradiation with a gradient of static magnetic fields (0.06 T, 0.3 T, 0.42 T and 0.6 T) on the self-assembly of single macroscopic glycine crystals, we gamma irradiated the powdered amino acid and then assembled single crystals from water solutions. The preliminary results showed a stable formation of fluid inclusions in the single crystals and no straightforward effect on the self-assem- bly process after glycine gamma irradiation and interaction with static magnetic fields. There is much literature on the effects of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) on respiratory.and cardiovascular health. However, few studies have evaluated the impact of PM2.5 on a population living in the vicinity.of a massive deposit of mine tailings. A longitudinal panel study.was performed to evaluate the association between exposure to PM2.5 and acute effects on lung function in schoolchildren from november 2012 to May.2013. Ambient levels of PM2.5 and its metal composition were measured. Lung function was evaluated using spirometric testing. Associations were quantified using GEE multilevel analy.is controlling for confounders by.using different lag time periods. The chemical characterization of PM2.5 had high levels of S > na > Cl > Ca > Si > Fe > Al > Mg > K > Cu > Ti > and Zn, which would be associated with metals present in tailings. We found a negative association between the temporal variation of PM2.5 and changes in lung function specifically.on forced vital capacity. Our results suggest that schoolchildren exposed to fine particulate matter from tailings deposited in the bay.of Chanaral have their forced vital capacity.decreased, which would affect their present and future lung development, increasing the risk of developing chronic respiratory.diseases.

To date, White Spot Sy.drome (WSS) produced by.the White Spot Sy.drome Virus (WSSV) causes one of the most severe diseases infecting penaeid shrimps worldwide. Although a vast amount of studies has elucidated pathogenesis in live infection models, there is still little information about the interaction of WSSV infections using in vitro models in the whiteleg shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei (L. vannamei) hemocy.es. In this study. a WSSV infection kinetics was performed using total hemocy.es isolated from healthy.L. vannamei organisms and maintained in in vitro conditions using isotonic solution for shrimp (ISS). The infected experimental cells received ≈ 30,000 viral copies of WSSV. The viability.of the hemocy.es (control and infected group) was measured during the kinetics with try.an blue exclusion method and cells were maintained up to 6 hpi (post-infection) with non-significant differences of viability.between both groups. WSSV replication was assessed using RT- PCR at the RnA expression level of the early.viral gene Ie1 and transcripts were detected as early.as 30 min pi. Hemocy.es from WSSV group showed disrupted integrity. degranulation and irregular shape. This study.provides evidence of the capability.of WSSV to infect and replicates in L. vannamei hemocy.es using in vitro assay. in short times as 30 min.
