The term "hemangioma" refers to the common tumor of infancy that exhibits rapid postnatal growth and slow regression during childhood. It may cause confusion with venous malformations that are often incorrectly called "cavernous hemangioma". Venous malformations comprise abnormally formed channels that are lined by quiescent endothelium. Accurate diagnosis is required for selecting the appropriate treatment.

Since the introduction of propranolol in the treatment of complicated infantile hemangiomas(IH) in 2008, other different beta-blockers, including timolol, acetabutolol, nadolol and atenolol, have been successfully used for the same purpose. Various hypotheses including vasoconstriction, inhibition of angiogenesis and the induction of apoptosis in proliferating endothelial cells have been advanced as the potential beta-blockerinduced effect on the accelerated IH involution, although the exact mechanism of action of beta-blockers remains unknown. This has generated an extraordinary interest in IH research and has led to the discovery of the role of the renin-angiotensin system(RAS) in the biology of IH, providing a plausible explanation for the beta-blocker induced effect on IH involution and the development of new potential indications for RAS drugs such as angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors and angiotensin-receptor blockers in the treatment of IH. This review is focused on the current use of cardiovascular drugs in the treatment of IH.

AIM: To analyze the evolution in the management of airway infantile hemangioma(AIH) and to report the results from 3 pediatric tertiary care ***: A retrospective study of patients with diagnosis of AIH and treated in 3 pediatric tertiary care institutions from 1996 to 2014 was performed. RESULTS: Twenty-three patients with diagnosis of AIH were identified. Mean age at diagnosis was 6 mo(range, 1-27). Single therapy was indicated in 16 patients and 7 patients received combined therapy. Two therapeutic groups were identified: Group A included 14 patients who were treated with steroids, interferon, laser therapy and/or surgery; group B included 9 patients treated with oral propranolol. In group A, oral corticosteroids were used in 9 patients with a good response in 3 cases(no requiring other therapeutic option), the other patients required additional treatment options. Cushing syndrome was observed in 3 patients. One patient died of a fulminant sepsis. Open surgical excision and endoscopic therapy were performed in 11 patients(in 5 of them as a single treatment) with a response rateof 54.5%. Stridor persisted in 2 cases, and one patient died during the clinical course of bronchial aspiration. In group B, oral propranolol was used in 9 patients(in 8 of them as a single treatment) with a response rate of 100%, with an mean treatment duration of 7 mo(range, 5-10); complications were not observed. CONCLUSION: Our experience and the medical literature support the use of propranolol as a first line of treatment in AIH.

In a previous transcriptomic study of human bone marrow stromal cells(BMSCs,also known as bone marrow-derived^mesenchymal stem cells#,)/SFRP2 was highly over-represented in a subset of multipotent BMSCs(skeletal stem cells,SSCs),which recreate a bone/marrow organ in an in vivo ectopic bone formation *** modulate WNT signaling,which is essential to maintain skeletal homeostasis,but the specific role of SFRP2 in BMSCs/SSCs is ***,we evaluated Sfrp2 deficiency on BMSC/SSC function in models of skeletal organogenesis and *** skeleton of Sfrp2-def\c\ent(KO)mice is overtly normal;but their BMSCs/SSCs exhibit reduced colony-forming efficiency,reflecting low SSC self-renewal/***2 KO BMSCs/SSCs formed less trabecular bone than those from WT littermates in the ectopic bone formation ***,regeneration of a cortical drilled hole defect was dramatically impaired in Sfrp2 KO ***2-deficient BMSCs/SSCs exhibited poor in vitro osteogenic differentiation as measured by Runx2 and Osterix expression and calcium ***,activation of the Wnt co-receptor;Lrp6,and expression of Wnt target genes,Axin2,C-myc and Cyclin Dl,were reduced in Sfrp2-deficient BMSCs/*** of recombinant Sfrp2 restored most of these activities,suggesting that Sfrp2 acts as a Wnt *** demonstrate that Sfrp2 plays a role in self-renewal of SSCs and in the recruitment and differentiation of adult SSCs during bone ***2 is also a useful marker of BMSC/SSC multipotency,and a factor to potentially improve the quality of ex vivo expanded BMSC/SSC products.

Background:Ocular surface disease in glaucoma patients is a significant ocular co-morbidity that can affect 40%to 59%of these patients *** current study was aimed at evaluating the potential clinical benefit of an intense pulsed light(IPL)-based treatment in glaucomatous patients with ocular surface disease due to prolonged hypotensive eyedrop *** our knowledge,this is the first series analyzing the therapeutic effect of this treatment option in this type of ***:This non-comparative prospective case series study enrolled a total of 30 glaucoma patients ranging in age from 57 to 94 years old and treated with hypotensive eyedrops for years with dry eye *** patients received four sessions of IPL treatment using the Optima IPL system(Lumenis,Yokneam,israel)adjusted to the official optimized Lumenis *** in symptomatology,corneal staining,conjunctival hyperemia,non-invasive break-up time(NIBUT),tear osmolarity,tear meniscus height(TMH),meiboscore and meibomian gland expressibility was analyzed after ***:Statistically significant reductions were observed after IPL treatment in the symptomatology scores measured with different questionnaires[ocular surface disease index(OSDI),standard patient evaluation of eye dryness(SPEED)and symptom assessment questionnaire in dry eye(SANDE)]as well as with the visual analogue scale(P<0.001).Mean change in OSDI was−15.0±11.3.A significant reduction was found after treatment in the corneal staining score(P<0.001).A significant reduction was found in tear film meniscus height(P=0.012),as well as in tear film osmolarity(P=0.001).A significant reduction was also found in meibomian gland expressibility(P=0.003),changing the percentage of grade 3 eyes from 44.4%before IPL to 17.2%after ***:IPL therapy combined with meibomian gland expression(MGX)seems to be an effective option to improve symptomatology in glaucomatous patients with ocular surface diseas

与几乎所有复杂疾病一样,卒中的患病风险和临床转归也是多基因作用的[1]。探索相关基因突变有望为新型个体化治疗方法奠定基础,从而显著减少卒中对全球健康造成的毁灭性影响。为了达到足够的统计学效能以确认多个风险性等位基因,需要很大的样本量。尽管卒中是全世界范围内第二大致死病因和成年人致残的主要原因[2],但没有任何一家研究机构能独立收集到足够的样本。在认识到这一挑战之后,来自世界各地的卒中研究者们于2007年成立了国际卒中遗传学联盟（ International Stroke Genetics Consortium, ISGC； http：//www. ***）,其使命是通过研究在全球多个研究机构入组的患者来识别影响卒中患病风险、临床预后和治疗效果的遗传学因素。尽管先前已取得了一些成功[3-5],仍有大量工作有待进行,这不仅是为了发现风险性等位基因从而达到卒中个体化医疗的最终目标,更是为了开发综合性卒中风险评估手段以及得到足以改变临床实践的结果[6]。根据糖尿病和冠状动脉疾病等其他复杂疾病的研究进展,为了识别与卒中相关的所有基因突变,需要100000～200000个样本。为了达到这个样本量,需要进行更为广泛的协作。

The identification of jets originating from quarks and gluons,often referred to as quark/gluon tagging,plays an important role in various analyses performed at the Large Hadron Collider,as Standard Model measurements and searches for new particles decaying to quarks often rely on suppressing a large gluon-induced *** paper describes the measurement of the efficiencies of quark/gluon taggers developed within the ATLAS Collaboration,using √s=13 TeV proton–proton collision data with an integrated luminosity of 140 fb^(-1) collected by the ATLAS *** taggers with high performances in rejecting jets from gluon over jets from quarks are studied:one tagger is based on requirements on the number of inner-detector tracks associated with the jet,and the other combines several jet substructure observables using a boosted decision tree.A method is established to determine the quark/gluon fraction in data,by using quark/gluon-enriched subsamples defined by the jet *** in tagging efficiency between data and simulation are provided for jets with transverse momentum between 500 GeV and 2 TeV and for multiple tagger working points.
