SP100 is an antiviral protein that restricts the productive stage of human papillomavirus(HPV)and multiple other viruses,and viruses in turn block sUMO-1-mediated stabilization of SP100 and promotes its degradation(Table S1).Interferon(IFN)signaling could still produce more SP100 through transcription to counteract viruses.1 Viruses also disable the transcriptional up-regulation of SP100 to achieve persistent infection in hosts.

A recent study published in Nature reveals an interaction between SWI/SNF subunits and mitotic chromatin,which is essential for establishing gene bookmarks and preserving cell identity.1 The findings deepen our understanding of how SWI/SNF complexes regulate transcriptional memory heritability for cell fate commitment(Fig.1),thus validating the indispensability of SWI/SNF complexes in development and association of their perturbance with tumorigenesis and neurodevelopment disorders.

In our previous studies, we have found that the prepubertal increase in thyroid hormone levels induces osterix(Osx) signaling in hypertrophic chondrocytes to transdifferentiate them into osteoblasts. To test if Osx expressed in chondrocytes directly contributes to transdifferentiation and secondary ossification, we generated Osx^flox/flox;Col2-Cre-ERT2 mice and knocked out Osx with a single injection of tamoxifen at postnatal day(P) 3 prior to evaluation of the epiphyseal bone phenotype by μCT, histology, and immunohistochemistry(IHC) at P21. Vehicle(oil)-treated Osx^flox/flox;Col2-Cre-ERT2 and tamoxifen-treated, Cre-negative Osx^flox/flox mice were used as controls.μCT analysis of tibial epiphyses revealed that trabecular bone mass was reduced by 23% in the Osx conditional knockout(c KO) compared with control mice. Trabecular number and thickness were reduced by 28% and 8%,respectively, while trabecular separation was increased by 24% in the c KO mice. Trichrome staining of longitudinal sections of tibial epiphyses showed that bone area and bone area adjusted for total area were decreased by 22% and 18%, respectively. IHC studies revealed the presence of abundant Osx-expressing prehypertrophic chondrocytes in the epiphyses of control mice at P10, but not in the cKO mice. Furthermore, expression levels of MMP13, COL10, ALP, and BSP were considerably reduced in the epiphyses of cKO mice. We also found that Osx overexpression in ATDC5 chondrocytes increased expression of Col10, Mmp13, Alp, and Bsp. Our data indicate that Osx expressed in chondrocytes plays a significant role in secondary ossification by regulating expression of genes involved in chondrocyte hypertrophy and osteoblast transdifferentiation.

A recent article published in Science reveals how the mammalian SWI/SNF (mSWI/SNF) complexes utilize epigenetic cues in the chromatin landscape for differential chromatin remodeling.1 The heteromultimeric ATP-dependent SWI/SNF complexes can alter chromatin architecture leading to gene expression modulation (Fig. 1). Combinatorial and modular assembly of mSWI/SNF complex subunits2 partly underscore their heterogeneity and tissue-specific downstream effects. Given their implication in numerous diseases, including cancers3 and neurodevelopmental disorders,4 the mSWI/SNF or BAF complexes have attracted interest in elucidating their precise action to lend therapeutic ideas. The work of Mashtalir et al.1 has deepened our understanding by decoding the signals which instruct the assembly, localization, and activity of mSWI/SNF complexes. They provide experimental confirmation that the mSWI/SNF complexes depend on single and/or summative histone/nucleosome signatures and subunit modules to determine their activity (Fig. 1).

Microalgae have been recommended as superior candidate for fuel production because of their advantages of higher photosynthetic efficiency, biomass & lipid productivity, and faster growth rate as compared to other energy crops. To meet up all these criteria, we have developed a continuous outdoor micro-algal raceway pond reactor(RPR) and a lab scale indoor tubular photo bioreactor(PBR) for biofuel production. An attempt to utilise indigenous sources of nutrients to improve the economics also revealed that micro-algal culturing can also be used as a mode of nutrient removal and water treatment. The photosynthetic rate and lipid production were enhanced by arresting daytime cell division and promoting night-time cell division. A 50% lipid improvement was observed for the particular algal consortia. Microscopic studies revealed that temporal phase separation could be achieved by adjusting nutrient distribution pattern. To monitor temporal phase separation, it is required to know DNA multiplication model. Quantification of g DNA in RPR confirmed that cell division happens during the night which positively affects the photosynthetic efficiency and lipid productivity of microalgae.

Role of adsorption behavior on metal build-up in urban road dust

Metal pollution of stormwater runoff can cause potential toxic impacts on the receiving water environment and human health. Effective pollution mitigation requires accurate stormwater quality modeling. Even though a significant knowledge base exists on the factors influencing metal build-up on urban roads, very limited studies have investigated how metal–particulate interaction influences metal build-up. This study quantitatively assessed the influence of particulate characteristics, together with vehicular traffic and land use, on the build-up of Zn, Cu, Pb, Cr, Ni and Cd on urban roads. The study outcomes revealed that the variability in metal build-up is highly influenced by the variability associated with metal adsorption to particulates. The percentage contribution from particulate properties influencing metal adsorption in the case of 150 μm size road dust particles. Among different particulate properties influencing metal adsorption, effective cation exchange capacity showed a strong positive relationship with the build-up of Cd compared to other metals,highlighting the potential role of Cd in stormwater quality as a readily available metal. The build-up of metals such as Cr and Ni are highly influenced by metal oxides of Al, Fe and Mn and clay forming minerals, indicating that Cr and Ni are relatively stable in nature.

Sometimes boundary value problems have isolated regions where the solution changes ***,when solving numerically,one needs a fine grid to capture the high *** fine grid can be implemented as a composite coarse-fine grid or as a global fine *** cheaper way of obtaining the composite grid solution is the use of the local defect correction *** technique is an algorithm that combines a global coarse grid solution and a local fine grid solution in an iterative way to estimate the solution on the corresponding composite *** algorithm is relatively new and its convergence properties have not been studied for the boundary element *** this paper the objective is to determine convergence properties of the algorithm for the boundary element ***,we formulate the algorithm as a fixed point iterative scheme,which has also not been done before for the boundary element method,and then study the properties of the iteration *** show that we can always expect ***,the algorithm opens up a real alternative for application in the boundary element method for problems with localised regions of high activity.

Effect of underlap and gate length on device performance of an AlInN/GaN underlap MOSFET

We investigate the performance of an 18 nm gate length AIInN/GaN heterostructure underlap double gate MOSFET, using 2D Sentaurus TCAD simulation. The device uses lattice-matched wideband Al0.83In0.17N and narrowband GaN layers, along with high-k Al2O3 as the gate dielectric. The device has an ultrathin body and is designed according to the ITRS specifications. The simulation is done using the hydrodynamic model and interface traps are also considered. Due to the large two-dimensional electron gas （2DEG） density and high velocity, the maximal drain current density achieved is very high. Extensive device simulation of the major device performance metrics such as drain induced barrier lowering （DIBL）, subthreshold slope （SS）, delay, threshold voltage （Vt）, Ion/Ioff ratio and energy delay product have been done for a wide range of gate and underlap lengths. Encouraging results for delay, Ion, DIBL and energy delay product are obtained. The results indicate that there is a need to optimize theIoff and SS values for specific logic design. The proposed AlInN/GaN heterostructure underlap DG MOSFET shows excellent promise as one of the candidates to substitute currently used MOSFETs for future high speed applications.
