Background:Multidrug resistant tuberculosis(MDR-TB)is a recognized threat to global eforts to TB control and remains a priority of the National Tuberculosis ***,social determinants and socioeconomic dep‑rivation have since long been associated with worse health and perceived as important risk factors for *** study aimed to analyze the spatial distribution of non-MDR-TB and MDR-TB across parishes of the Lisbon metropolitan area of Portugal and to estimate the association between non-MDR-TB and MDR-TB and socioeconomic ***:In this study,we used hierarchical Bayesian spatial models to analyze the spatial distribution of notifcation of non-MDR-TB and MDR-TB cases for the period from 2000 to 2016 across 127 parishes of the seven municipalities of the Lisbon metropolitan area(Almada,Amadora,Lisboa,Loures,Odivelas,Oeiras,Sintra),using the Portuguese TB Surveillance System(SVIG-TB).In order to characterise the populations,we used the European Deprivation Index for Portugal(EDI-PT)as an indicator of poverty and estimated the association between non-MDR-TB and MDR-TB and socioeconomic ***:The notifcation rates per 10,000 population of non-MDR TB ranged from 18.95 to 217.49 notifcations and that of MDR TB ranged from 0.83 to *** identifed 54 high-risk areas for non-MDR-TB and 13 high-risk areas for *** in the third[relative risk(RR)=1.281,95% credible interval(CrI):1.021-1.606],fourth(RR=1.786,95%CrI:1.420-2.241)and ffth(RR=1.935,95%CrI:1.536-2.438)quintile of socioeconomic deprivation presented higher non-MDR-TB notifcations *** in the fourth(RR=2.246,95%CrI:1.374-3.684)and ffth(RR=1.828,95%CrI:1.049-3.155)quintile of socioeconomic deprivation also presented higher MDR-TB notifcations ***:We demonstrated signifcant heterogeneity in the spatial distribution of both non-MDR-TB and MDRTB at the parish level and we found that socioeconomically disadvantaged parishes are disproportionall

Long-acting glucagon-like peptide-1(GLP-1) analogues marketed for type 2 diabetes(T2D) treatment have been showing positive and protective effects in several different tissues, including pancreas, heart or even brain. This gut secreted hormone plays a potent insulinotropic activity and an important role in maintaining glucose homeostasis. Furthermore, growing evidences suggest the occurrence of several commonalities between T2 D and neurodegenerative diseases, insulin resistance being pointed as a main cause for cognitive decline and increased risk to develop dementia. In this regard, it has also been suggested that stimulation of brain insulin signaling may have a protective role against cognitive deficits. As GLP-1 receptors(GLP-1R) are expressed throughout the central nervous system and GLP-1 may cross the blood-brain-barrier, an emerging hypothesis suggests that they may be promising therapeutic targets against brain dysfunctional insulin signaling-related pathologies. Importantly, GLP-1 actions depend not only on the direct effect mediated by its receptor activation, but also on the gut-brain axis involving an exchange of signals between both tissues via the vagal nerve, thereby regulating numerous physiological functions(e.g., energy homeostasis, glucose-dependent insulin secretion, as well as appetite and weight control). Amongst the incretin/GLP-1 mimetics class of anti-T2 D drugs with an increasingly described neuroprotective potential, the already marketed liraglutide emerged as a GLP-1R agonist highly resistant to dipeptidyl peptidase-4 degradation(thereby having an increased half-life) and whose systemic GLP-1R activity is comparable to that of native GLP-1. Mitochondrial disorders are phenotypically varied, with serious clinical repercussions. Among them, there is the deficiency of combined oxidative phosphorylation of type 20, which occurs due to a defect in the VARS2 gene. This article presents a case of a 2-year-old female with progressive myoclonic epilepsy and psychomotor regression, with refractoriness to multiple anticonvulsants. The diagnosis was only made after the examination was carried out. Therefore, this article highlights the aspects of this rare disease and the importance of the exome for the diagnosis of rare conditions.

AIM To identify common copy number alterations on gastric cancer cell *** Four gastric cancer cell lines(ACP02, ACP03, AGP01 and PG100) underwent chromosomal comparative genome hybridization and array comparative genome hybridization. We also confirmed the results by fluorescence in situ hybridization analysis using the bacterial artificial chromosome clone and quantitative real time PCR *** The amplification of 9p13.3 was detected in all cell lines by both methodologies. An increase in the copy number of 9p13.3 was also confirmed by fluorescence in situ hybridization analysis. Moreover, the interleukin 11 receptor alpha(IL11RA) and maternal embryonic leucine zipper kinase(MELK) genes, which are present in the 9p13.3 amplicon, revealed gains of the MELK gene in all the cell lines studied. Additionally, a gain in the copy number of IL11 RA and MELK was observed in 19.1%(13/68) and 55.9%(38/68) of primary gastric adenocarcinoma samples, respectively. CONCLUSION The characterization of a small gain region at 9p13.3 in gastric cancer cell lines and primary gastric adenocarcinoma samples has revealed MELK as a candidate target gene that is possibly related to the development of gastric cancer.

This study aimed to evaluate the effects of a neuropsychopedagogical parenting program (NPP) on the cognitive and motor development of children with ADHD. 70 children with ADHD participated in the present study, of both sexes, aged between 06 and 08 years old (7.08 years old), who were divided into two groups: (A—35 children with ADHD who did not undergo the NPP;B—35 children with ADHD who underwent the NPP). The NPP had a duration of 25 sessions of 15 minutes each, at a frequency of 3 times a week. To evaluate the effects of the NPP, the children were submitted to the following protocols: 1) Swanson, Nolan and Pelham Questionaire (SNAP-IV);2) Assessment of Motor Competence through the Supine-to Stand (STS);3) Assessment of executive functioning through the HEAD-FOOT-KNEE- SHOULDER (HFKS) protocol;4) Assessment of Reading Comprehension. Both groups were evaluated before the NPP, after the NPP and four months after the end of the NPP. Our results show that GB children in the signs/ symptoms evaluated by SNAP-IV had a superior performance by ±11% (p < 0.01) in relation to GA children. Regarding motor competence, the children from GB had a superior performance by ±24% (p < 0.01) in relation to children from GA. When assessed for executive functioning when establishing an intergroup comparison, GB children performed ±23% better (p < 0.01) than GA children. Regarding reading ability, children from (GB) had a superior performance by ±9% (p < 0.05) compared to children from (GA), after undergoing the NPP.

Introduction: shoulder joint has the greatest range of motion in the human body. The shoulder anatomy promotes high mobility and favors relative sacrifice of articular stability, making it susceptible and more prone to events of instability and dislocation. This review aimed at identifying main complications of surgical treatment of anterior shoulder dislocation. Methodology: This systematic review was conducted according to the International Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyzes (PRISMA) guidelines. Studies which were eligible for this systematic review included: English or Spanish language, studies published from 2000, which mentioned surgical complications of anterior shoulder dislocation in their results, both in open and arthroscopic surgery. Included studies which were required to have at least 1 complication following surgical repair. Only studies from original data were included. Results: We found 228 potentially eligible studies for the survey. Through the inclusion and exclusion criteria and after consensus among reviewers, we chose 9 studies to compose the systematic review. Conclusion: Important information emerges: recurring instability, recurring dislocation, external rotation limitation and arthritis are main surgical complications of anterior shoulder dislocation.

Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) A7445G point mutation has been shown to be responsible for familial nonepidermolytic palmoplantar keratoderma (NEPPK) associated with deafness without any additional features. To date, only a few cases have been described. We report a Portuguese pedigree presenting an inherited combination of NEPPK and sensorineural deafness compatible with maternal transmission. Clinical expression and age of onset of NEPPK and deafness were variable. Normal expression patterns of epidermal keratins and filaggrin, intercellular junction proteins including connexin 26, loricrin and cornified envelope proteins, were observed. Molecular analysis revealed that all the affected members, previously screened for Cx26 mutations with negative results, presented the mtDNA A7445G point mutation in the homoplasmic form. To our knowledge, this is the fifth family in whom inherited NEPPK and hearing loss are related to this mitochondrial mutation.
