Aims Knowledge of species richness is of prime importance to both basic and applied aspects of ecological ***,quantifying plant species richness in the tropics is potentially time-consuming because of high species *** species richness estimates are also frequently biased,because many rare species are not *** address these problems,the use of a variable area method has been proposed as an alternative to fixed area methods,but its appli-cability to plants with aggregated distributions has been questioned based on simulation *** use empirical data to compare the efficiency and accuracy of a variable area method and a fixed area method for estimating species richness,density and basal area for plants with aggregated distributions,using palms as a model *** Adult palms were sampled in twenty 10×30 m transects in an Atlantic Forest in Rio de Janeiro state,*** individuals were considered in the fixed area method,while in the variable area method only the first six adults in each transect were sampled;in this case,transect length was defined according to the distance of the sixth adult from the beginning of the *** fewer than six individuals were observed in a given transect,transect length was extended up to 50 m to search for additional *** efficiency of both methods was compared based on species rarefaction curves,using the chao 1 statistic(for abundance data).For each species we calculated mean density per transect and basal area,according to each sampling *** effort in terms of the number of individual plants and the area necessary to characterize maximum species richness in each sampling method,as well as mean time taken to sample a single transect,were compared as measures of *** findings An accurate estimate of species richness was achieved using both methods,but in the variable area method,a quarter of the number of individuals and half the area was sufficient

Prevalence and Genotype Distribution of Oncogenic-Risk Human Papilloma Virus in the Cervix of Climacteric Women with normal Pap Smears

Objective: To find out the incidence of high-risk HPV infections on climacteric women within our area of influence;and to typify HPV genotypes on women with normal cytology that come to our hospitalary unit of menopausia. Material and Method: Cross-sectional study;with a random sample of 140 cases of climacteric women of ≥50 years of age, with normal Pap smears for the last 12 months. HPV determination was carried out by PCR for screening, and by hybrid capture for genotype typification. Results: The percentage of climacteric women who are carriers of oncogenic HPV and a normal Pap smear was of 11.43% (16/140 cases). The genotype found most frequently was HPV-16, followed by HPV-58, 51 and 18. Conclusions: We found a high prevalence of women who were carriers of oncogenic HPV in climacteric women with normal Pap smears (latent infections) in our health region. We consider that cervical cancer screening, either by PCR or conventional Pap smear, should not be minimized or ignored from 50 years of age onwards.

Metabolic syndrome occurrence in university students from México City: The binomium HDL/waist circumference is the major prevalence factor

Objective: Metabolic Syndrome (MetS) is the leading cause to develop type 2 diabetes worldwide. We examined associations of MetS components early in life, and their use as risk factors of acquiring MetS. Method: We used an international definition of MetS. Subjects were categorized into “Healthy”/“not Healthy”, altered parameters are low HDL-cholesterol, large waist circumference (WC), hypertriacylglycerolemia, hypertension, and hyperglycemia, in 32 combinations (2^5) with two values (altered/not altered). MetS was identified with three or more altered parameters. Results: A total of 3424 students (ages 17 - 24 years) participated in the survey, and 2475 were “not Healthy” showing at least 1 parameter altered;from them 49.6% showed low blood HDL either alone or combined, 38.2% had altered waist circumference either alone or combined;while 18.1% showed hypertriacylglycero-lemia either alone or combined. Hypertension and hyperglycemia were the lowest in frequency. Conclusion: We propose that the binomium HDL/ Waist Circumference is the main prevalence factor to develop MetS in the asymptomatic young population, followed by hypertriacylglycerolemia which together define MetS;while hypertension and hyperglycemia seem to occur later in MetS.

Female gender in the setting of liver transplantation

The evolution of liver diseases to end-stage liver disease or to acute hepatic failure, the evaluation process for liver transplantation, the organ allocation decisionmaking, as well as the post-transplant outcomes are different between female and male genders. Women's access to liver transplantation is hampered by the use of model for end-stage liver disease(MELD) score, in which creatinine values exert a systematic bias against women due to their lower values even in the presence of variable degrees of renal dysfunction. Furthermore, even when correcting MELD score for gender-appropriate creatinine determination, a quantifiable uneven access to transplant prevails, demonstrating that other factors are also involved. While some of the differences can be explained from the epidemiological point of view, hormonal status plays an important role. Moreover, the pre-menopausal and post-menopausal stages imply profound differences in a woman's physiology, including not only the passage from the fertile age to the non-fertile stage, but also the loss of estrogens and their potentially protective role in delaying liver fibrosis progression, amongst others. With menopause, the tendency to gain weight may contribute to the development of or worsening of pre-existing metabolic syndrome. As an increasing number of patients are transplanted for non-alcoholic steatohepatitis, and as the average age at transplant increases, clinicians must be prepared for the management of this particular condition, especially in post-menopausal women, who are at particular risk of developing metabolic complications after menopause.

In the search of lead-free piezoelectric materials,ceramic processing techniques offer potential tools to increase the piezoelectric and ferroelectric properties in addition to new chemical *** of pure BnKT16(Bi0.5(na0.84K0.16)0.5TiO3)phase were synthesized by sol–gel method with a low crystallization temperature(750℃).Ceramic samples were sintered by pressureless sintering(PLS),sinter-forging(SF),and spark plasma sintering(SPS)***,morphological,and chemical characterizations were performed by XRD,Raman,EDS,and *** samples by PLS and SF exhibit rod.like grains associated to bismuth *** highest remanent polarization(11.05μC/cm2),coercive field(26.2 kV/mm),and piezoelectric coefficient(165 pC/n)were obtained for SF *** piezoresponse force microscopy(PFM)analysis shows that the crystallites at the nanoscale exhibit piezoelectric phenomenon and the highest piezoelectric response is reported for PLS *** presence of the rhombohedral phase,the increase in grain and crystallite size,and the oriented rod.like inclusions favoring the crystallographic texture are facts that enhance the piezoelectric coefficient for BnKT16 piezoceramics.

Viticultural Performance of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon （Vitis vinifera L.） Cultivated in High Altitude Regions of Southern Brazil

Different studies show that the altitude regions of the State of Santa Catarina have great potential for the prod.ction of grapevine varieties. The aim of this study was to characterize the phenological development, determine the thermal requirements in degree-days （DD）, the index heliothermic （IH） and climatic variables during the vegetative and prod.ctive development of varieties Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grown in Campo Belo do Sul （27°40′04″ S, 50°44′48″ W, altitude 950 m a.s.l.） and Sao Joaquim （28°15′13″ S, 49°57′02″ W, altitude 1,400 m a.s.l.） during 2012/2013 cycle. Phenological stages evaluated were bud break, full bloom, veraison and maturity. Higher temperatures, global radiation, PAR and lower volumes of rainfall were the main climatic parameters that differentiated Campo Belo do Sul from Sao Joaquim. Due to occurrence of higher temperatures, Campo Belo do Sul presented thermal summation around 40% higher than Sao Joaquim. The low temperatures of Sao Joaquim extended the period of grape ripening and were responsible for the highest levels of titratable acidity and the higher concentrations of anthocyanins and total polyphenols in both varieties. The results show that in the altitude ranges studied （900 and 1400 m）, climatic behavior and viticultural performance of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot were suitable for prod.cing quality wines.

Binding of rhodopsin and rhodopsin analogues to transducin, rhodopsin kinase and arrestin-1

AIM: To investigate the interaction of reconstituted rhodopsin, 9-cis-retinal-rhodopsin and 13-cis-retinal-rhodopsin with transducin, rhodopsin kinase and arrestin-1. METHODS: rod.outer segments(ROS) were isolated from bovine retinas. Following bleaching of ROS membranes with hydroxylamine, rhodopsin and rhodopsin analogues were generated with the different retinal isomers and the concentration of the reconstituted pigments was calculated from their UV/visible absorption spectra. Transducin and arrestin-1 were purified to homogeneity by column chromatography, and an enriched-fraction of rhodopsin kinase was obtainedby extracting freshly prepared ROS in the dark. The guanine nucleotide binding activity of transducin was determined by Millipore filtration using β,γ-imido-(3H)-guanosine 5'-triphosphate. Recognition of the reconstituted pigments by rhodopsin kinase was determined by autoradiography following incubation of ROS membranes containing the various regenerated pigments with partially purified rhodopsin kinase in the presence of(γ-32P) ATP. Binding of arrestin-1 to the various pigments in ROS membranes was determined by a sedimentation assay analyzed by sodium dodecyl sulphatepolyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. RESULTS: Reconstituted rhodopsin and rhodopsin analogues containing 9-cis-retinal and 13-cis-retinal rendered an absorption spectrum showing a maximum peak at 498 nm, 486 nm and about 467 nm, respectively, in the dark; which was shifted to 380 nm, 404 nm and about 425 nm, respectively, after illumination. The percentage of reconstitution of rhodopsin and the rhodopsin analogues containing 9-cis-retinal and 13-cis-retinal was estimated to be 88%, 81% and 24%, respectively. Although only residual activation of transducin was observed in the dark when reconstituted rhodopsin and 9-cis-retinal-rhodopsin was used, the rhodopsin analogue containing the 13-cis isomer of retinal was capable of activating transducin independently of light. 研究的目的是探讨日粮维生素A水平是否与伊比利亚猪生长前期(活重35.8 kg)和育成期(活重158 kg)脂肪细胞分化或脂肪积累差异有关。选取活重16.3 kg的伊比利亚猪分配到两个日粮组,一组饲喂添加维生素A 10 000 U·kg-1的日粮(对照组);另一组不添加维生素A(VAR)。试验结果表明,维生素A的水平对猪生长性能和胴体品质没有影响。维生素A的早期限饲在生长早期极显著增加了背最长肌(LT)前脂肪细胞数量(P<0.001);并且增加育成期中性脂质含量,改善了其组成(较高的单不饱和脂肪酸和较低的饱和脂肪酸含量,P<0.05)。维生素A的限饲增加仔猪脂肪生成潜力,且不影响胴体性状。

电磁干扰(EMI)是瞬时功能故障的主要来源之一,原因是电源供电线上的噪声注入引起了VDD和GnD的额定值的波动.介绍了一种新的方法来增强片上系统(SoC)关于电源和接地电压瞬变时的信号完整性,并且这种方法完全符合IEC 61000—4—29标准.其基本思想是设计和IEC 61000—4—29兼容的集成电路,通过局部和动态地将时钟占空比去适应传播延迟的变化和扰动的逻辑路径.当无法满足时,该方法导致暂时把集成电路的工作频率减小到满足该标准的最小值.根据异常电网活动,时钟占空比调制(CDCM)是通过使用正和/或负边沿时钟展宽逻辑(CSL)块来实现的.基于这个概念,在尽可能保持时钟高速频率的同时,数字电路对于电源供电线上波动的耐受性将会更强.该方法可被视作一种在线提供动态自适应同步的监视技术.通过SPICE模拟,实验结果表明此方法的有效性.
