Neutralizing antibodies targeting the receptor-binding domain(RBD)of the SARS-CoV-2 spike(S)block severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)entry into cells via surface-expressed angiotensin-converting enzyme 2(ACE2).We used a surrogate virus neutralization test(sVNT)and SARS-CoV-2 S protein-pseudotyped vesicular stomatitis virus(VSV)vector-based neutralization assay(pVNT)to assess the degree to which serum antibodies from coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)convalescent patients interfere with the binding of SARS-CoV-2 S to *** tests revealed neutralizing anti-SARS-CoV-2 S antibodies in the sera of ~90% of mildly and 100% of severely affected COVID-19 convalescent ***,sVNT and pVNT results correlated strongly with each other and to the levels of anti-SARS-CoV-2 S1 IgG and IgA ***,levels of neutralizing antibodies correlated with the duration and severity of clinical symptoms but not with patient *** to pVNT,sVNT is less sophisticated and does not require any biosafety *** this assay is also much faster and cheaper,sVNT will not only be important for evaluating the prevalence of neutralizing antibodies in a population but also for identifying promising plasma donors for successful passive antibody therapy.

Feature selection for energy system modeling: Identification of relevant time series information

Heuristic or clustering based time series aggregation methods are often used to reduce temporal complexity of energy system models by selecting representative ***,these methods potentially neglect relevant information of time series(e.g.,distribution parameters).To identify relevant time series parameters,feature selection algorithms can be *** present research contributes by(a)developing a new feature selection approach based on clustering,nested modeling and regression(CNR)which is designed for applications requiring high selectivity and using different data sets,(b)comparing and evaluating CNR with feature selection methods available from the literature(e.g.,LASSO)and(c)identifying relevant information of the time series applied in energy system models,in particular those of demand,photovoltaic and *** show that CNR achieves on average up to 101%lower mean absolute errors when methods are directly ***,CNR better identifies relevant information when the number of selected features is *** disadvantage of CNR,however,is its high computational effort.A potential remedy to counter this is the combination with another method(e.g.,as pre-feature selection).In terms of relevant information,energy systems including photovoltaic are mainly characterized by the correlation between demand and photovoltaic time series as well as the range and the 35%quantile of *** energy systems include wind power,the minimum and mean of wind as well as the correlation between demand and wind time series are relevant *** implications of these findings are discussed.

Neurogranin (Ng) and its role as Alzheimer’s disease (AD) biomarker: Ng is a calmodulin-binding protein mainly expressed in cerebral structures such as the cortex,hippocampus and *** is mainly located in the dendritic processes,particularly in post-synaptic compartments,but also in the cytosolic compartment,being likely involved in the regulation of the intracellular calcium-calmodulin signaling pathway (Represa et al.,1990).In the last decade,a plethora of studies have demonstrated that cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) Ng is increased in AD patients and in individuals with an ADlike CSF profile (Kester et al.,2015a).This increase seems to be disease-specific because other neurodegenerative conditions including frontotemporal dementia,Lewy body dementia,Parkinson’s disease,progressive supranuclear palsy,multiple system atrophy or Huntington’s disease,present CSF Ng concentrations similar to controls (Wellington et al.,2016).Ng levels in CSF appear to be elevated in mild cognitive impairment (MCI)-affected individuals who progress to AD and are highly related to memory and cognitive function (Kester et al.,2015a;Tarawneh et al.,2016),which indicates that this protein may serve as an early AD biomarker with diagnostic utility in pre-dementia disease stages,and with prognostic utility to predict cognitive decline and MCI-to-AD conversion.

The estimation of the ground temperature profile with respect to the depth and time is the key issue in many engineering applications which use the ground as a source of thermal energy. In the present work, the influence of the model components on the calculated ground temperature distribution has been analysed in order to develop an accurate and robust model for the prediction of the ground temperature profile. The presented mathematical model takes into account all the key phenomena occurring in the soil and on its top surface. The impact of individual model elements on the temperature of the soil has been analysed. It has been found that the simplest models and the most complex model result in a similar temperature variation over the simulation period, but only at a low depth. A detailed analysis shows that a larger depth requires more complex models and the calculation with the use of simple models results in an incorrect temperature and a theoretical COP estimation.

Higher education institutions have an essential role in *** are key agents in the education of future leaders that will contribute to the successful United Nations Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs)*** geography of SDGs this implementation is very heterogeneous,but it is clear that higher education institutions contribute decisively to creating a mindset that facilitates the dissemination of SDGs *** perspective paper analyses the impacts of higher education on sustainability and the challenges and barriers as-sociated with this *** education contributes decisively to the SDGs implementation,but especially to Goal 1(end poverty in all its forms everywhere),Goal 3(ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages),Goal 5(gender equality),Goal 8(decent work and economic growth),Goal 12(responsible consumption and production),Goal 13(climate change)and Goal 16(peace,justice and strong institutions).As a transfor-mational agent,the higher education sector has a tremendous impact on students’habit and contribution to a prosperous ***,to establish the required change in education,sustainability principles need to be at the heart of higher institutions strategy(e.g.,curricula,modus operandi)and is key to be incorporated in the organisational *** by leading by example,the external influence in the society will be possible(e.g.,implementing SDGs key aspects such as gender quality,reduce waste reduction and energy consumption).For this to be a reality,different communication methods with students are needed(e.g.,different student academic levels).Nevertheless,critical challenges need to be tackled in the institutions inside and outside the institution environment,such as incorporating sustainability principles,political environment and stakeholders’interest.

Background:An isolated bicuspid aortic valve(BAV)is associated with structural and functional abnormalities of the aorta and the left ventricle(LV).Although~50%of patients with aortic coarctation(CoA)have a BAV,less is known about its impact on LV function and aortic geometry and function in CoA *** this cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging(CMR)study,we analysed markers of LV and aortic function as well as aortic geometry in a large cohort of CoA patients with a BAVand compared them with CoA patients with a tricuspid aortic valve(TAV).Methods:We included 48 patients with a BAV(18.4±9.3 years)and 45 patients with TAV(20.7±9.9 years).LV volumes,mass and ejection fraction as well as aortic distensibilty,pulse wave velocity(PWV)were measured from standard cine CMR and phase-contrast CMR images.2-dimensional CMR feature tracking(2DCMR-FT)was performed to measure longitudinal,circumferential and radial strain and strain rate of the *** arch geometry was classified as romanic,gothic and ***:LV volumes,mass and ejection fraction as well as aortic distensibility and PWV did not significantly differ between the BAV and the TAV *** was also no significant difference for LV global longitudinal,radial and circumferential strain and strain rate between both *** with a BAV had more commonly a gothic aortic arch compared to TAV patients,but this difference was not statistically significant(22 vs.14,p=0.2).Ascending and descending aortic distensibility correlated with LV mass in the entire patient group(p<0.001).Global longitudinal,circumferential and radial strain(GLS,GCS,GRS)and global longitudinal and circumferential strain rate(GLSR,GCSR)correlated with LV ejection fraction(p<0.001).Conclusion:Our data suggest that the presence of a BAV does not adversely impact LV and aortic function in children and young adults with *** correlation of global circumferential,longitudinal and radial strain values with LV ejection fraction dem

Deep learning(DL)has huge potential to provide valuable insights into biodiversity changes in speciesrich agricultural ecosystems such as semi-natural grasslands,helping to prioritize and plan conservation ***,DL has been underexplored in grassland conservation efforts,hindered by data scarcity,intricate ecosystem interactions,and limited economic ***,we developed a DL-based object-detection model to identify indicator species,a group of vascular plant species that serve as surrogates for biodiversity assessment in high nature value(HNV)*** selected indicator species Armeria maritima,Campanula patula,Cirsium oleraceum,and Daucus *** overcome the hurdle of limited data,we grew indicator plants under controlled greenhouse conditions,generating a sufficient dataset for DL model *** model was initially trained on this greenhouse ***,smaller datasets derived from an experimental grassland plot and natural grasslands were added to the training to facilitate the transition from greenhouse to field *** optimized model achieved remarkable average precision(AP)on test datasets,with 98.6 AP50 on greenhouse data,98.2 AP50 on experimental grassland data,and 96.5 AP50 on semi-natural grassland *** findings highlight the innovative application of greenhouse-grown specimens for the in-situ identification of plants,bolstering biodiversity monitoring in grassland ***,the study illuminates the promising role of DL techniques in conservation programs,particularly as a monitoring tool to support result-based agrienvironment schemes.
