Geochemistry, mineral paragenesis and geothermal conditions of oreforming fluids from the Ain El Bey Cu–Fe deposit: potential occurrence of native gold and precious metal traces (North African orogenic belt, Northern Tunisia)

The Ain El Bey abandoned mine, in North-West Tunisia, fits into the geodynamic context of the European and African plate boundary. Ore deposit corresponds to veins and breccia of multiphase Cu–Fe-rich mineralization related to various hydrothermal fluid circulations. Petromineralogical studies indicate a rich mineral paragenesis with a minimum of seven mineralization phases and, at least, six pyrite generations. As is also the case for galena and native silver, native gold is observed for the first time as inclusion in quartz which opens up, thus, new perspectives for prospecting and evaluating the potential for noble metals associated with the mineralization. Scanning Electron Microscope--Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy and Transmission electron microscopy analyses show, in addition, a large incorporation of trace elements, including Ag and Au, in mineral structures such as fahlores(tetrahedrite-tennantite) and chalcopyrite ones. The mineral/mineral associations, used as geothermometers, gave estimated temperatures for the mineralizing fluids varying from 254 to 330 ℃ for phase Ⅲ, from 254 to 350 ℃ for phase Ⅳ, and from 200 to 300 ℃ for phases Ⅴ and Ⅵ. The seventh and last identified mineralization phase, marked by a deposit of native gold, reflects a drop in the mineralizing fluid’s temperature(< 200 ℃) compatible with boiling conditions. Such results open up perspectives for the development of precious metal research and the revaluation of the Cu–Fe ore deposit at the Ain El Bey abandoned mine, as well as at the surrounding areas fitting in the geodynamic framework of the Africa-Europe plate boundary.

Cysteine proteases continue to provide validated targets for treatment of human *** neurodegenerative disorders,multiple cysteine proteases provide targets for enzyme inhibitors,notably caspases,calpains,and *** reactive,active-site cysteine provides specificity for many inhibitor designs over other families of proteases,such as aspartate and serine;however,a)inhibitor strategies often use covalent enzyme modification,and b)obtaining selectivity within families of cysteine proteases and their isozymes is *** review provides a general update on strategies for cysteine protease inhibitor design and a focus on cathepsin B and calpain 1 as drug targets for neurodegenerative disorders;the latter focus providing an interesting query for the contemporary assumptions that irreversible,covalent protein modification and low selectivity are anathema to therapeutic safety and efficacy.

There is a considerable interest in producing and understanding the optical and spectroscopic properties of ordered nanoparticle assemblies. Herein, we describe and interpret the optical absorbance and Raman properties of 5.9 nm ± 0.3 nm diameter silver nanocrystals coated with dodecanethiol and organized in highly ordered 3D superlattices of different heights. Each superlattice was studied individually, which allowed to elaborate a model based on Maxwell-Garnett theory to reproduce qualitatively the height and wavelength dependence of the absorbance. Importantly, because of their small size compared to that of traditional nanoparticles used in Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy （SERS）, the large 3D distribution of hot spots generated by the silver superlattices allowed to easily obtain SERS spectra of the surrounding ligands despite their intrinsic low Raman cross section. Accordingly, traces of thiophenol could be detected very easily.

The purpose of this study is to select an appropriate commercial neutral cellulase enzyme for denim garments bio-polishing to achieve specific industrial goals. A full factorial experimental design was used to evaluate the effect of factors considered in the optimization of the bio-polishing process (fabric ID: x1, treatment time: x2, treatment temperature: x3, enzyme concentration: x4, storage time: x5, inactivation step: x6 and enzyme type: x7). Experiments were conducted using laboratory washing machine. Subjective evaluation was performed at a pilot and at an industrial scale. Tear, tensile strength and subjective evaluation concerning hand feel, fabric color, indigo dye pocket back staining and fuzziness extent were evaluated. Results showed that x6 and x7 had significant effects on the fabric tear and tensile strength loss. In the optimization, the great dependence between observed and predicted tear strength and tensile strength loss, the correlation coefficient of the models (R2 > 0.85) and the important value of F-ratio proved the validity of the models. Results showed that denim leg panels treated with the enzyme Lava-Cell NSZ presented a minimum loss of tear and tensile strength. A low-temperature and time enzymatic bio-polishing process was developed at industrial scale.

Agricultural soils in semi-arid regions have frequently been degraded due to adverse climatic conditions,organic matter depletion,and poor farming *** enhance soil quality,this study examines the reuse of sewage sludge(SS)as an available source of organic matter in a typical Mediterranean sandy-loam ***,we studied the cumulative effect of two annual applications of 40,80 and 120 tons of sludge per ha on soil quality in absence of *** dose-dependent improvement of organic matter content was the most significant event that reflected sludge application rates,and consequently influenced other soil ***,soil structural stability increased by 13.3%,28.8%and 59.4%for treatments SS-40,SS-80 and SS-120 respectively as compared to unamended *** stability improvement was also confirmed by the dose-dependent variation of other edaphic factors including calcium content,the microbial quotient as well as Welt and C:N *** param-eters are involved in cementing soil aggregates by cation bridging,the formation of microbial mucilage,and clay-humic *** magnetic susceptibility(SMS)was measured in situ as a possible rapid tool to evaluate soil *** showed significant correlation with sludge dose and stability amelioration testifying to the aggregation role that can play Al2O3 and particularly Fe2O3 minerals added by the hematite-rich ***,analytical results and field observations revealed no trends of soil salinization or acidification by excessive sludge *** avoiding the rhizosphere effect,outcomes could reflect the resilience and intrinsic capacity of the soil to cope with excessive sludge loads.

Assessment of the Energy Conversion on the Thermal Balance and Atmospheric Emissions in Ceramic Tile Product Industry in Tunisia: A Case Study

This work aims to assess the effect of energy conversion (Thermal oil, Natural gas and cogeneration system) on atmospheric emission and energy consumption in ceramic tile product sector in Tunisia. Two tile manufactures were selected. The first plant has two production lines: The first line (FF1) operates with thermal oil with a lower calorific value (LHV) of 9811 cal/g and the second line (FG1) operating with natural gas has a lower calorific value (HHV) of 10,520 cal/g, ensuring a daily output of 300 tons each one. The second manufacture (SC2) operates with natural gas with the same LHV value. The thermal oil energy balance showed a specific consumption of 0.0481 toe/ton tile product for the FF1 manufacture line, 0.0198 toe/ton of tile product for the FG1 manufacture line and 0.0143 toe/ton of tile product for the SC2 manufactory. The electrical energy consumption was 0.0121 toe/ton of tile product for the FF1 line, 0.0108 toe/ton of tile product for the FG1 line and a production of energy (exergy) of 0.014 toe/ton for the SC2 production line. The specific consumption was split into 40% for dryer and 60% for tunnel kilns. The conversion allow to record a dryer reduction rate of 80% for nitrogen oxides (NOx), 56% for sulfur oxides (SOx), 56% for fluorinated compounds, 52% for chlorinated compounds and 52% for volatile organic compound. Whereas, the kiln reduction rate was 36% for nitrogen oxides, 51% for sulfur oxides, 36% for chlorinated compounds and 55% for fluorinated and 50% for volatile organic compounds (VCOs). Compared to natural gas line, the use of cogeneration system in kiln process shows a decrease of 67% for NOx emissions, 80% for SOx emissions, 89% for fluorinated compounds, 58% for chlorinated emissions and 64% for volatiles organic compounds. Compared to thermal oil, the use of cogeneration system reduces the thermal energy consumption by 70% and allowed to save 30% of electric energy by generate 20% of needed electric energy. Geotechnical Study of the Aptian Limestone of the Kef Region,Northwestern Tunisia:Evaluation for Industrial Use

This study aims to the initial characterization of Aptian sedimentary limestones in the Kef region located in the North-West of Tunisia in order to use in industrial fields. The limestone samples were collected from three outcrops respectively named Jebel Jerissa, Jebel Hmeima and Jebel Harraba. A geochemical characterization highlights a variation of the weight percentage (wt%) as follows: CaO (53 - 55), MgO (0.04 - 0.28), Al2O3 (0.07 - 0.51), Fe2O3 (0.41 - 2.87), and a loss on ignition (41.62 - 43.35). The other oxides (K2O, SO3, Na2O) are in trace amounts. Mineralogical analysis revealed that limestones contain more than 95% of calcite and the clay impurities are the minor phases detected. Petrographic study showed that these limestones are packestone-wakestone type. The hardness of Aptian limestones crosses the upper limit of the hard domain. Geotechnical tests reveal a Dry Micro Deval (MDS) coefficient varying from 23% to 33%, a Wet Micro Deval (MDH) coefficient with values oscillating around 26% to 36%, a Los Angeles coefficient (LA) about 25% against a value of the compressive strength ranging from 593 Kg/cm2 to 866 Kg/cm2. The gravimetric tests highlighted a flexural strength value from 106 Kg/cm2 at 208 Kg/cm2, while the ultrasonic coefficient oscillates from 4876 m/s to 5233 m/s, indicating the low porosity of these limestone (0.5% to 1%). The density recorded an average value of 2.50 g/cm3. The various properties studied have proved that the limestone studied can be used in various industrial fields such steel industry, aggregate, cement industry and marble.
