Same day yttrium-90 radioembolization with single photon emission computed tomography/computed tomography: An opportunity to improve care during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond

BACKGROUND The coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic has made it more challenging for patients to undergo yttrium-90(Y-90)radioembolization(RE).Same day Y-90 RE provides an opportunity to minimize logistical challenges and infection risk associated with COVID-19,thus improving patient access.AIM To describe the use of same day Y-90 RE with routine single photon emission computed tomography/computed tomography(SPECT/CT)in order to optimize therapy.METHODS All patients were selected for Y-90 RE through a multidisciplinary tumor board,and were screened and tested for COVID-19 infection per institutional protocol.A same day procedure was developed,consisting of angiography,imaging,and Y-90 resin particle delivery.Routine SPECT/CT after technetium-99m macroaggregated albumin(Tc-99m MAA)administration was performed for assessment of arterial supply,personalized dosimetry,and extrahepatic activity.Post-treatment Y-90 bremsstrahlung SPECT/CT was performed for confirmation of particle delivery,by utilization of energy windowing to limit signal from previously administered Tc-99m MAA particles.RESULTS A total of 14 patients underwent same day Y-90 RE between March and June 2020.Mean lung shunt fraction was 6.13%(range 3.5%-13.1%).Y-90 RE was performed for a single lesion in 7 patients,while the remaining 7 patients had treatment of multifocal lesions.The largest lesion measured 8.3 cm.All patients tolerated the procedure well and were discharged the same day.CONCLUSION Same day Y-90 RE with resin-based microspheres is feasible,and provides an opportunity to mitigate infection risk and logistical challenges associated with the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.We recommend consideration of SPECT/CT,especially among patients with complex malignancies,for the potential to improve outcomes and eligibility of patients to undergo same day Y-90 RE.

Dynamic contrast-enhanced MR imaging findings of bone metastasis in patients with prostate cancer

AIM:To evaluate the dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI) findings of bone metastasis in prostate cancer patients.METHODS:Sixteen men with a diagnosis of metastatic prostate cancer to bones were examined with DCE-MRI at 1.5 Tesla.The mean contrast agent concentration vs time curves for bone metastasis and normal bone were calculated and K trans and ve values were estimated and compared.RESULTS:An early significant enhancement (wash-out:n=6,plateau:n=8 and persistent:n=2) was detected in all bone metastases (n=16).Bone metastasis from prostate cancer showed significant enhancementand high K trans and ve values compared to normal bone which does not enhance in the elderly population.The mean K trans was 0.101/mmiinn and 0.0051/mmiinn (P < 0.001),the mean ve was 0.141 and 0.0038 (P < 0.001),for bone metastases and normal bone,respectively.

Application of Corona Charge Deposition Technique in Thin Film Industry

With the advent of new materials, microchip industry is investigating new architecture to further scale down the device size. New technologies are on the way to achieving this goal without compromising with the device’s performance and benefits. In this new scenario, corona charge deposition technique (CCDT) has become an indispensable part of the thin film industry. Due to the non-invasive and non-destructive nature of corona charge ions, they are effectively being used to improve the device properties. They are also useful to understand the electrical properties of insulators and other materials. Corona-Kelvin non-contact metrology or the C-KM is the most recent development in this field. In this review, the applications of corona charge deposition technique in the semiconductor industry have been reviewed. Further, the methodology involved is described. The advances as well as challenges and improvements including the future research are also discussed.

Detection of Chlamydophila psittaci from feral pigeons in environmental samples:problems with currently available techniques

Chlamydophila psittaci(Lillie,1930)Everett et al.,1999,the pathogenic agent of human ornithosis,is widespreadin feral pigeon populations and many cases of transmission from feral pigeons to humans have been reported.Theaim of the present study was to detect C.psittaci in environmental samples to find out more about possibletransmission routes and,therefore,to assess the zoonotic risk for humans.Fecal samples were collected from nestboxes in a feral pigeon loft.Additionally,samples were taken from the feather dust film covering the water surface ofpublic fountains where pigeons regularly bathe.The samples were tested for the presence of chlamydial antigenusing an antigen enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay to prove shedding of C.psittaci by feral pigeons.This testdetects a genus specific lipopolysaccharide in the outer membrane of the chlamydial bacteria.Samples were testedusing the IDEIA PCE Chlamydia Test kit(DakoCytomation)and positive results were verified with IDEIA ChlamydiaBlocking Reagents(DakoCytomation).The IDEIA PCE Chlamydia Test yields a high proportion of positive results.However,when IDEIA Chlamydia Blocking was performed,most of the positive results turned out to be negative orcould not be interpreted.We conclude that antigen-enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay tests are not suitable fordetecting C.psittaci in environmental samples.Previous publications where no blocking test was used should bereconsidered critically.

Effect of Maggot Production Residue on Amaranth Growth Parameters

Amaranth is one of the most consumed vegetables in Niger Republic because of its nutritional values. However, the production of this plant requires nutrient-rich soils that are becoming scarce in most agricultural soils in Niger. This study aims to evaluate the fertilizing potential of the maggot production residue of Musca domestica L. 1758 and bovine excrement on the agronomic parameters of Amaranthus cruentus L., 1759. To do this, four densities (50, 100, 150, 200 g) of maggot production residue and bovine excrement were tested. Stem length, neck diameter and leaf number were strongly influenced by the interaction of the type of treatment (maggot production residue and bovine excrement) and dose. Dose 50 and dose 150 gave the best performance in length and diameter respectively for residue (length = 42.24 ± 8.98 cm;diameter = 0.88 ± 0.17 cm) and bovine droppings (length = 39.29 ± 8.10;diameter = 0.98 ± 0.77). On the leaf number side, no significant differences were observed between the doses for the residue. For bovine excrement, this number was higher at the 150 g dose (28.12 ± 4.98). The effect of the residue and bovine excrement on each corresponding dose shows that, for the stem length, only the 50 g dose was statistically influenced by the latter (P < 0.001). On the neck diameter side, only the 50 g and 100 g doses were statistically influenced by bovine residue and excrement (dose 50 g: P < 0.001;dose 100 g: P < 0.001). For each of these doses, the residue recorded the best performance both for the length of the rod and for the diameter at the collar. On the leaf number side, only the dose 50 g and 150 g varied statistically according to the type of fertilizer. At the 50 g dose, the residue recorded the largest number of leaves (27.10 ± 11.15), but the residue recorded the lowest number of leaves at the 100 g dose (21.01 ± 5.99). In computing architecture, ALU plays a major role. Many promising applications are possible with ATMEGA microcontroller. ALU is a part of these microcontrollers. The performance of these microcontrollers can be improved by applying Reversible Logic and Vedic Mathematics. In this paper, an efficient reversible Arithmetic and Logic Unit with reversible Vedic Multiplier is proposed and the simulation results show its effectiveness in reducing quantum cost, number of gates, and the total number of logical calculations.

Design and Implementation of an Efficient Reversible Comparator Using TR Gate

Reversible logic is a new emerging technology with many promising applications in optical information processing, low power (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) CMOS design, (De Oxy RiboNucleic Acid) DNA computing, etc. In industrial automation, comparators play an important role in segregating faulty patterns from good ones. In previous works, these comparators have been implemented with more number of reversible gates and computational complexity. All these comparators use propagation technique to compare the data. This will reduce the efficiency of the comparators. To overcome the problem, this paper proposes an efficient comparator using (Thapliyal Ranganathan) TR gate utilizing full subtraction and half subtraction algorithm which will improve the computation efficiency. The comparator design using half subtraction algorithm shows an improvement in terms of quantum cost. The comparator design using full subtraction algorithm shows effectiveness in reducing number of reversible gates required and garbage output.
