Antihyperglycaemic activity of ethylacetate extract of Chlorophytum alismifolium in type 2 diabetes:The involvement of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-γand dipeptidyl peptidase-4

Objective:This research is to investigate the antihyperglycaemic activity and the underlying mechanisms of action of the ethylacetate extract of Chlorophytum alismifolium(EACA)tubers in a type 2 diabetes ***:The tubers were processed and sequentially extracted in hexane followed by ethylacetate,using a Soxhlet apparatus,and subjected to gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC–MS).The acute toxicity of EACA was investigated in albino Wistar *** antihyperglycaemic study was carried out using high-fat diet(pelletized diet and margarine in the ratio of 10:1 and 20%fructose solution)and streptozotocin-induced hyperglycaemic Wistar *** effects of the extract(150,300 and 600 mg/kg)on blood glucose level,insulin,peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-c(PPAR-c)and dipeptidyl peptidase-4(DPP-4)were evaluated using enzyme-linked immunosorbent ***:The oral median lethal dose in Wistar rats was estimated to be>5000 mg/*** with EACA at all doses significantly reduced the fasting blood glucose levels,compared to the hyperglycaemic control,and over *** of EACA increased the serum insulin and PPAR-c levels while decreasing DPP-4 ***–MS analysis revealed the presence of 13 compounds,with isothiazole and isoxazolidine covering total area of 24.6%and 22.69%,***:The findings from this study showed that EACA has important compounds with beneficial effect in type 2 diabetes and acts by increasing insulin secretion and PPAR-c level and decreasing DPP-4 activity.

The effect of multi-step tempering on retained austenite content and mechanical properties of low alloy steel used in the forged cold back-up roll was *** evolutions were characterized by optical microscope,X-ray diffraction,scanning electron microscope and Feritscope,while the mechanical properties were determined by hardness and tensile *** results revealed that the content of retained austenite decreased by about 2% after multi-step ***,the content of retained austenite increased from 3.6% to 5.1% by increasing multi-step tempering *** hardness and tensile strength increased as the austenitization temperature changed from 800 to 920 ℃,while above 920 ℃,hardness and tensile strength *** addition,the maximum values of hardness,ultimate and yield strength were obtained via triple tempering at 520 ℃,while beyond 520 ℃,the hardness,ultimate and yield strength decreased sharply.

Objective:To evaluate the ameliorative effect of melatonin on sub-chronic chlorpyrifos(CPF)and cypermethrin(CYP)-evoked cognitive changes in male Wistar ***:Fifty adult male Wistar rats,divided into five groups of ten rats each,were used for the ***ⅠandⅡwere given distilled water and soya oil(2 ml/kg)***Ⅲwas administered with melatonin at 0.5 mg/kg ***Ⅳwas administered with CPF[7.96 mg/kg(1/10th LD_(50))]and CYP[29.6 mg/kg(1/10th LD_(50))].and Group V was administered with CPF[7.96 mg/kg(1/10th LD_(50)]and CYP[29.6 mg/kg(1/10th LD_(50)]30 min after melatonin(0.5 mg/kg).The regimens were administered by gavage once daily for 12 ***,cognitive performances were determined and the brain was evaluated for malonaldehyde ***:CPF and CYP induced cognitive deficits and increased brain malonaldehyde concentration,which were all ameliorated by ***:Cognitive deficits elicited by CPF and CYP was mitigated by melatonin due to its antioxidant property.

在苏丹的高中,体育课的数量在大大减少,有些地区甚至为了提高文化课考试成绩的而将体育课完全取消。目前有一些学者对苏丹高中体育课程的现状进行了相关研究,但是都不够深入。本研究运用文献资料、问卷调查、专家访谈和数理分析等科学研究方法,调查了苏丹高中体育课程的现状,主要针对相关教育政策进行分析分析。问卷包含五个部分,共有33道题目,调查样本量为60,采用Cranach进行分析α系数为0.8570,证明了本文应用方法的稳定性和有效性。采用SPSS数理统计软件对问卷数据进行分析,发现苏丹高中体育课程设置和中学生体育活动面临的主要问题,探究苏丹高中生体育课成绩未纳入毕业考试的原因,研究结论如下：1.苏丹高中没有专门的体育课程教学计划。2.相对于体育课,苏丹的高中学生对体育活动更感兴趣,不关心体育课。3.苏丹的高中校园里活动场地缺乏,有效实施体育课程的器材设施不足,而且没有为女生提供专门的体育活动场馆。4.苏丹的高中里缺乏体育教材,针对有特殊需求的学生没有开设相应的体育课程。5.苏丹的高中体育教师数量以及体育课时数量明显不足。6.苏丹政府对于高中体育课程不够重视,而且没有规定实施任何体育课程计划。

Decaying mangrove detritus plays a significant role in nutrient cycling and fueling in both the forests and aquatic habitats where the detritus stems from estuarine and coastal food *** decay rates partly depend on the type of detritus,but most studies have thus far focused on leaf litter decay and decomposition,whereas other detrital sources(except for roots)have largely been *** compare the decay rates of Rhizophora apiculata and Xylocarpus granatum non-leafy detritus(flowers,propagules,stipules,and twigs)with mangrove leaf litter in field studies,using litter bags during the dry and the wet seasons in the tropical mangrove forest of Sibuti,Sarawak,*** observed higher microbial decay rates of stipules,flowers,propagules,and twigs for both the *** and *** the wet *** contrast,leaf decay rates were higher during the dry *** rates depended on the lignin content of the detrital sources of both species,both during dry and wet ***,the half-life(T0.5)and 95%lifespan(T0.95)of non-leaf materials(flowers,propagules,stipules and twigs)for both species were remarkably longer than those of leaf *** decaying non-leafy detritus may play a significant role in nutrient and carbon cycling over longer time,when leaf litter is either being decomposing rapidly and/or being washed away by tidal flush and river ***,non-leafy(flowers,propagules,stipules and twigs)detritus should be taken into account when budgeting organic matter turnover in mangroves.

High levels of Zinc-α-2-Glycoprotein among Omani AIDS patients on combined antiretroviral therapy

Objective:To investigate the levels of zinc-α-2-glycoprotein(ZAG) among Omani AIDS patients receiving combined antiretroviral therapy(cART).Methods:A total of 80 Omani AIDS patients(45 males and 33 females),average age of 36 *** were receiving cART at the Saltan Qaboos University Hospital(SQUH).Muscat,Oman,were tested for the levels of *** addition,SO healthy blood donors(46 males and 34 females),average age of 26 years,attending the SOUH Blood Bank,were tested in parallel as a control *** of the ZAG levels was performed using a competitive enzyme—linked immunosorbent assay and in accordance with the manufacturer's ***:The ZAG levels were found to he significantly higher among AIDS patients compared to the healthy individuals(P=0.033).A total of 56(70%) of the AIDS patients were found to have higher levels of ZAG and 16(20%) AIDS patients were found to have high ZAG levels,which are significantly(P>0.031) associated with weight ***:ZAG levels are high among Omani AIDS patients on cART and this necessitales the measurement of ZAG on routine basis,as it is associated with weight loss.

Comparison of CT Dose Reduction Algorithms in a Porcine Model

The present study utilized a porcine model for qualitative and quantitative assessment of the diagnostic quality of non-contrast abdominal computed tomography (CT) images generated by Adaptive Statistical Iterative Reconstruction (ASIR, GE Healthcare, Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA), Model-Based Iterative Reconstruction (GE company name VEO), and conventional Filtered back projection (FBP) technique. Methods: Multiple CT whole-body scans of a freshly euthanized pig carcass were performed on a 64-slice GE CT scanner at varying noise indices (5, 10, 15, 20, 30, 37, 40, 45), and with three different algorithms (VEO, FBP, and ASIR at 30%, 50%, and 70% levels of ASIR-FBP blending). Abdominal CT images were reviewed and scored in a blinded and randomized manner by two board-certified abdominal radiologists. The task was to evaluate the clarity of the images according to a rubric involving edge sharpness, presence of artifact, anatomical clarity (assessed at four regions), and perceived diagnostic acceptability. This amounted to seven criteria, each of which was graded on a scale of 1 to 5. A weighted formula was used to calculate a composite score for each scan. Results: VEO outperforms ASIR and FBP by an average of 0.5 points per the scoring system used (p < 0.05). Above a threshold noise index of 30, diagnostic acceptability is lost by all algorithms, and there is no diagnostic advantage to increasing the dose beyond a noise index of 10. Between a noise index of 25 - 30, VEO retains diagnostic acceptability, as opposed to ASIR and FBP which lose acceptability above noise index of 25. Conclusion: Model-based iterative reconstruction provides superior image quality and anatomical clarity at reduced radiation dosages, supporting the routine use of this technology, particularly in pediatric abdominal CT scans.

Assessment of Groundwater Vulnerability in Kaduna Metropolis, Northwest Nigeria

DRASTIC index model was employed in the assessment of the intrinsic groundwater vulnerability to contamination in Kaduna metropolis, Nigeria. The model evaluates the contribution of seven environmental parameters (Depth to water level, Net Recharge, Aquifer media, Soil media, Topography, Impact of vadose zone, and Hydraulic Conductivity) in the protection of groundwater against contamination. The mapping was conducted within the framework of Geographical Information System. The study area has very low, low to slightly moderate vulnerability with highest and lowest DRASTIC values of 131 and 77 respectively. To have better understanding of the spatial vulnerability of groundwater in the area, the DRASTIC map was reclassified into five (very high, high, moderate, low and very low) vulnerability zones. Generally, the distribution of the vulnerability classes indicated the low to moderate vulnerability status of the majority parts of the study area, with high vulnerability at the center. Strict control measures should be put in place when locating land uses with high potential hazards in the high and very high vulnerability areas.

Effect of fluoride treatment on corrosion behavior of Mg-Ca binary alloy for implant application

The influence of hydrofluoric acid（HF） treatment on the corrosion behavior of the Mg-0.5Ca alloys was investigated by immersion specimen in sodium hydroxide and HF solutions with various concentrations and durations at room *** evolutions of the specimens were characterized by atomic force microscopy,X-ray diffraction,field-emission scanning electron *** corrosion resistance was examined through potentiodynamic polarization and immersion test in Kokubo *** results revealed that the fluoride treated Mg-0.5Ca alloys produced by immersion in 40% HF provided more uniform,dense and thicker coating layer（12.6 μm） compared with the 35% HF treated *** electrochemical test showed that the corrosion resistance of fluoride treated specimen was 35 times higher compared with the untreated Mg-0.5Ca alloy specimen in Kokubo *** vitro degradation rate of the fluoride treated specimens was much lower than untreated Mg-0.5Ca alloy in Kokubo *** immersion test the surface of 40% HF treated sample showed a few corrosion dots,while untreated specimens were fully covered by corrosion products and *** treated Mg-0.5Ca alloy with 40% HF is a promising candidate as biodegradable implants due to its low degradation kinetics and good biocompatibility.
