Mixed ionic electronic conductors(MIECs)have attracted increasing attention as anode materials for solid oxide fuel cells(SOFCs)and they hold great promise for lowering the operation temperature of ***,there has been a lack of understanding of the performance-limiting factors and guidelines for rational design of composite metal-MIEC *** a newly-developed approach based on 3 D-tomography and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy,here for the first time we quantify the contribution of the dual-phase boundary(DPB)relative to the three-phase boundary(TPB)reaction pathway on real MIEC electrodes.A new design strategy is developed for Ni/gadolinium doped ceria(CGO)electrodes(a typical MIEC electrode)based on the quantitative analyses and a novel Ni/CGO fiber-matrix structure is proposed and fabricated by combining electrospinning and tape-casting methods using commercial *** only 11.5 vol%nickel,the designer Ni/CGO fiber-matrix electrode shows 32%and 67%lower polarization resistance than a nano-Ni impregnated CGO scaffold electrode and conventional cermet electrode *** results in this paper demonstrate quantitatively using real electrode structures that enhancing DPB and hydrogen kinetics are more efficient strategies to enhance electrode performance than simply increasing TPB.

Degradation of 1,4-Dioxane Using Ozone Oxidation with UV Irradiation （Ozone/UV） Treatment

A method for oxidative degradation of 1,4-dioxane （1,4-D） in waste water using a combination of ozone oxidation with UV irradiation （ozone/UV） treatment was investigated. The results showed that 1,4-D was degraded by ozone/UV treatment up to 90 min. The optimum concentration for the injected ozone gas was about 40 g·m^3 under a constant level of UV irradiation. Furthermore, solid phase extraction and GC-MS analysis showed no specific or reproducible peaks due to by-products of 1,4-D. It was therefore concluded that 1,4-D was completely degraded by ozone/UV treatment. In contrast, the amount of 1,4-D remaining decreased slowly in the presence of HCOf or CI. It was suggested that the degradation of 1,4-D, which results from .OH oxidation, was retarded by the presence of HCO3 or CI, which act as radical scavengers.

Recently, the dominant structural size of electronic devices and systems becomes a micro or nano-scale. Those micro or nano-systems are fabricated by spattering or depositing the thin layers on other materials. However, due to the residual stress or the thermal expansion mismatch, the delamination between layers sometimes occurs and it degenerates the reliability of the systems. Therefore, it is important to assess the interfacial strength precisely [1]. In order to investigate the material parameters which govern the fracture phenomenon of an interface, it is important to model an interface itself. Ma and kishimoto [2] proposed the interface model based on the internal variable theory of thermodynamics and the continuum constitutive relation between interface traction and interface separation has been developed. The cohesive law is formulated by taking into account of the anisotropy of interface debonding.

Overexpression of a reversion-related protein in the revertant RR cells

The cDNA insert of the plasmid p14-6[1] is found to be the 3’-untranslatcd region (3’-UTR) of the transcription factor for human interleukin-6, NF-IL6. This 3’ -DTK is actively transcribed in the revertant cell line RR, which contains the p14-6 plasmid integrated into its genomic DNA. Simultaneously a protein specifically bound to this 3’-UTR is expressed in significantly larger amounts. Its overexpression is apparently related to the reversion of the malignant cellular phenotype. The properties of this protein, named BNF, and possible reasons for its overexpression are discussed, and hypothesis on the mechanism of reversion of the RR cells is proposed.

Dedifferentiated Chondrosarcoma with a High-Grade Mesenchymal Component Mimicking a Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor

This report presents a dedifferentiated chondrosarcoma with a unique pathologic feature. A 63-year-old man was referred with pain and a soft tissue mass in the left groin. A plain radiograph showed a mineralization in the proximal femur with partially osteolytic foci and an abnormal shadow in the soft tissue. Magnetic resonance imaging scans showed an inhomogeneous lesion with intermediate to partially low signal intensity on T1-weighted image and intermediate to high signal intensity on T2-weighted image. Microscopically, the tumor in the femur is a low-grade chondrosarcoma and the component of soft tissue was a high-grade sarcomatous lesion with an epithelial arrangement of tumor cells. A diffuse immunoreactivity to both vimentin and c-kit (CD117) antibodies was detected in the high-grade component. A dedifferentiated component is similar to those of gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST). This is the first case of dedifferentiated chondrosarcoma with a high-grade component mimicking a GIST.

Complications of CAD/CAM Fabricated Surgical Template for Static Computer-Aided Implant Surgery

Purpose: Surgical templates produced by digital simulation and CAD/CAM allow for three-dimensional control of implant placement. However, due to clinical limitations, there are complications during the use of the template. The purpose of this study was to summarize the complications associated with the use of surgical templates for static computer-aided implant surgery. Methods: Complications were collected during the observation period, and then their implant sites were reanalyzed with simulation software. Results: There were 104 cases during the observation period, 5 cases had complications. Mechanical complications were observed in four cases, including three cases in which the frame of the template fractured during implant placement surgery and one case in which the sleeve fell off the surgical template. In one case, there was an error in the planned position. All cases were mandibular molar cases, and all cases of frame fracture were at the free end defect site. All cases had a Hounsfield unit of more than 700 at the implant site, and some of them had a significantly small jaw opening. Conclusion: Although the spread of CAD/CAM surgical templates has made it possible to avoid problems caused by the position of the implant, it has been difficult to avoid fractures in cases of mandibular free end defects with high Hounsfield unit.

Usefulness of Contrast-Enhanced CT on Arrival in Colonic Diverticular Bleeding

Contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) and colonoscopy are very useful for the diagnosis and treatment of colonic diverticular bleeding. However, the timing of CT has been reported in few cases. The aim of this study was to demonstrate the usefulness of contrast-enhanced CT on arrival in colonic diverticular bleeding. We conducted a review of the data of patients that were diagnosed with colonic diverticular bleeding between July 2010 and December 2021. Eighty-two patients (51 males, 31 females, average age 69.1 years) were admitted with diagnosis of colonic diverticular bleeding after undergoing contrast-enhanced CT. We retrospectively investigated the relationship between the initial diagnosis by contrast-enhanced CT on arrival at the hospital and the results of endoscopic identification. Contrast-enhanced CT showed extravasation of contrast medium in 30 cases. The time from the onset of bloody stool to the implementation of contrast-enhanced CT was significantly shorter in cases with extravasation images in the CT (average 7.9 hours) than in cases without extravasation images in the CT (average 15.3 hours). The identification rate of diverticular bleeding sites with colonoscopy was significantly higher in cases with extravasation images in the CT (83%) than in cases without extravasation images in the CT (36.5%). The final treatment methods were endoscopic hemostasis in 46 cases, medical treatment alone in 26 cases, transcatheter arterial embolization (TAE) in 8 cases, and surgery in 2 cases. For patients suspected of colonic diverticular bleeding, performing contrast-enhanced CT early and estimating the bleeding site before colonoscopy may lead to the success of endoscopic hemostasis. To identify and treat successfully colonic diverticular bleeding by colonoscopy, the early use of contrast-enhanced CT before colonoscopy is highly recommended.

A Case Report on Gallstone Ileus Treated with the Endoscopy

An 85-year-old female patient visited our emergency department with a history of lower abdominal pain and vomiting. Abdominal plain CT showed small bowel obstruction caused by a gallstone measuring 3 cm in size in the terminal ileum, gas in the gallbladder and adhesion in the gallbladder and duodenum. Thus, gallstone ileus with a cholecystoduodenal fistula was diagnosed. The gallstone was removed by the lower gastrointestinal endoscopy. Because of the high-risk status of the patient surgery, such as cholecystectomy or resection of the cholecystoduodenal fistula was not performed. Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy and radiography revealed the cholecystoduodenal fistula in the anterior wall of the duodenal bulb. Upper gastrointestinal radiography showed that the cholecystoduodenal fistula had been closed spontaneously without any complications on the 13th hospital day. Endoscopic removal of gallstone causing ileus is safe and effective as a less invasive alternative compared with surgery, although it requires condition that endoscope could reach the gallstone. The treatment method for the cholecystoduodenal fistula should be selected keeping in mind that conservative treatment, without surgery, may be effective.

Maxillary subperiosteal implantitis that caused severe bone resorption of the maxilla with perforation of the maxillary sinus and sinusitis: A case report

Subperiosteal implants are generally used in the severely resorbed areas, and although dwindling in use, they have shown to be successful treatment options for the edentulous dental patients. We report a case of maxillary subperiosteal implantitis that caused sinusitis. A 59-year-old man was referred to our clinic in March 2003 with a chief complaint of pain and swelling in the bilateral upper molar region. He received a surgical operation for maxillary subperiosteal implant at another dental clinic in April 2001. CT scans demonstrated that the radiopacity of the right maxillary sinus extended to the ethmoid and frontal sinuses. Extensive surgical debridement was performed. The radiopacity of the right maxillary sinus in CT almost disappeared in a month. Two months later, the occlusal function was recovered using a new maxillary complete denture. The patient has had no symptoms and no occlusal disturbance by the denture for more than nine years.
