Objective:To compare the sensitivity and specificity of direct fecal smear microscopy,culture,and polymerase chain reaction in the detection of Blastocystis *** human ***:Human stool samples were collected from a community in San isidro,rodriguez,rizal,*** samples were subjected to direct fecal smear microscopy,culture and polymerase chain reaction to detect the presence of Blastocystis ***:Of the 110 stool samples collected,28(25%)were detected positive for the presence of Blastocystis *** two or more *** method detected the highest number of Blastocystis-positive stool samples(n=36),followed by PCr of DNA extracted from culture(n=26),PCr of DNA extracted from stool(n=10),and direct fecal smear(n=9).Compared to culture,the sensitivity of the other detection methods were 66.7%for PCr from culture and 19.4%for both PCr from stool and direct fecal *** of the methods was high,with PCr from culture and direct fecal smear having97.3%,while PCr from stool at 95.9%.Conclusions:in this study,in vitro culture is the best method for detecting Blastocystis *** human stool samples.

Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy,including chronic hypertension,gestational hypertension,and preeclampsia,are the most common complications in pregnant women,affecting approximately 15%of pregnancies.[1,2]Hemolysis,elevated liver enzymes,and low platelet count(HELLP syndrome)can occur in 0.2%-0.6%of all pregnancies,and 10%-15%of patients are diagnosed with preeclampsia.[3,4]Among its severe complications,liver hematoma is remarkable and may lead to liver *** identification of HELLP syndrome is crucial for proper therapeutic management and to avoid fatal outcomes[4,5]since when a hepatic hematoma occurs,the risk of rupture increases to 12%.[3,5]

The fires and biomass burning are responsible for affect ecosystem processes in a wide range of biomes at regional and global *** Brazil,the state of Mato grosso is one of the most affected by the occurrence of forest ***,this study aims to quantify the longterm changes in the temporal and spatial patterns of fire occurrence and their effect on gross primary productivity(gPP)in the state of Mato grosso,Brazil,considering the biomes that compose *** images used in the study were acquired by satellite Terra and Aqua combined in the product MCD64A1.006,a monthly resolution of 500m by the Moderate resolution imaging Spectroradiometer(MODiS)sensor,during the period from 01/10/2000 to 12/31/*** MOD17A2 product derived from the MODiS sensor provides the accumulated value of *** points without the presence of burning presented higher values of gPP for all studied *** some points with the presence of burning the gPP even decreased by 44.20%,30.04%and 55.78%for Amazonia,Cerrado,and Pantanal,*** to the results presented here,it is concluded that the burnings negatively impact gross primary production in the biomes of the state of Mato grosso,Brazil and the dynamics of the burns do not keep up with the intensity of drought *** use of cluster analysis techniques,such as principal component analysis(PCA),is an alternative to bigdata analysis when the objective is to evaluate the presence of forest burning in more than one biome.

This work aimed to study and compare the effect of the incorporation of agro-industrial by-products(chestnut shell,grapeseed,and pomegranate peel)into yoghurts to fortify them while assessing their potential to replace synthetic *** each by-product,phenolic extracts were obtained and *** extracts demonstrated antioxidant and antibacterial properties,and the capacity to inhibitα-*** shell extract stood out regarding antioxidant capacity,displaying values of 1128 and 972 mgT_(rolox•gextract)^(-1),for the assays with DPPH and ABTS,*** yoghurts were produced(negative control,positive control with 0.1%of sorbic acid,two for each extract with 0.1%and 0.2%of extract,a mixture of extracts and a mixture of extracts with sorbic acid),and stored at 4℃.The incorporation of the extracts into the yoghurts maintained their physical-chemical properties and microbiological *** samples inhibited the growth of Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus *** analysis proved that higher concentrations of extract had similar results to synthetic *** results showed the viability to fortify yoghurts with the incorporation of by-product extracts,developing a value-added ***,revealed the possibility of these extracts replacing synthetic preservatives and antioxidants.

Clostridioides difficile(***)is the most common pathogen causing health care-associated *** TcdA and TcdB have been shown to activate enteric neurons;however,what population of these cells is more profoundly influenced and the mechanism underlying these effects remain *** To characterize a specific population of TcdA-affected myenteric neurons and investigate the role of the P2X7 receptor in TcdA-induced ileal inflammation,cell death,and the changes in the enteric nervous system in *** Swiss mice were used to model TcdA-induced ileitis in ileal loops exposed to TcdA(50μg/Loop)for 4 *** investigate the role of the P2X7 receptor,Brilliant Blue g(50 mg/kg,i.p.),which is a nonspecific P2X7 receptor antagonist,or A438079(0.7μg/mouse,i.p.),which is a competitive P2X7 receptor antagonist,were injected one hour prior to TcdA *** samples were collected to analyze the expression of the P2X7 receptor(by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction and immunohistochemistry),the population of myenteric enteric neurons(immunofluorescence),histological damage,intestinal inflammation,cell death(terminal deoxynucleotidyltransferasemediated dUTP-biotin nick end labeling),neuronal loss,and S100B synthesis(immunohistochemistry).rESULTS TcdA upregulated(Pression of the P2X7 receptor gene in the ileal tissues,increasing the level of this receptor in myenteric neurons compared to that in control *** with the control mice indicated that TcdA promoted(Pric calretinin+(Calr)and choline acetyltransferase+neurons and increased the number of nitrergic+and Calr+neurons expressing the P2X7 *** of the P2X7 receptor decreased TcdAinduced intestinal damage,cytokine release[interleukin(iL)-1β,iL-6,iL-8,and tumor necrosis factor-α],cell death,enteric neuron loss,and S100B synthesis in the mouse *** Our findings demonstrated that TcdA induced the upregulation of the P
