Predators effi.i.ntly learn to avoi. one type of warni.g si.nal rather than several, maki.g colour polymorphi.ms un- expected. Aposemati. wood ti.er moth males Parasemi. plantagi.i. have ei.her whi.e or yellow hi.dwi.g colorati.n across Eu- rope. Previ.us studi.s i.di.ate that yellow males are better defended from predators, whi.e whi.e males have a posi.i.ely frequency-dependent mati.g advantage. However, the potenti.l frequency-dependent behavi.ural di.ferences i. fli.ht between the morphs, as well as the role of male-male i.teracti.ns i. i.duci.g flyi.g acti.i.y, have not been previ.usly consi.ered. We ran an outdoor cage experi.ent where proporti.ns of both male morphs were mani.ulated to test whether flyi.g acti.i.y was frequency- dependent and di.fered between morphs. The whi.e morph was si.ni.i.antly more acti.e than the yellow one across all treatments, and sustai.ed acti.i.y for longer. Overall acti.i.y for both morphs was consi.erably lower i. the yellow-bi.sed envi.onment, suggesti.g that hi.her proporti.ns of yellow males i. a populati.n may lead to overall reduced flyi.g acti.i.y. The acti.i.y of the yellow morph also followed a steeper, narrower curve than that of the whi.e morph duri.g peak female calli.g acti.i.y. We sug- gest that whi.e males, wi.h thei. presumably less costly defences, have more resources to i.vest i. fli.ht for predator escape and fi.di.g mates. Yellow males, whi.h are better protected but less sexually selected, may i.stead compensate thei. lower fli.ht ac- ti.i.y by ＇flyi.g smart＇ duri.g the peak female-calli.g peri.ds. Thus, both morphs may be able to behavi.urally balance the trade-off between warni.g si.nal selecti.n and sexual selecti.n. Our results emphasi.e the greater need to i.vesti.ate ani.al behavi.ur and colour polymorphi.ms i. natural or semi.natural envi.onments [Current Zoology 61 （4）： 765-772, 2015].

Despi.e the capaci.y of Schwann cells to support peri.heral nerve regenerati.n, functi.nal recovery after nerve i.juri.s i. frequently poor, especi.lly for proxi.al i.juri.s that requi.e regenerati.g axons to grow over long di.tances to rei.nervate di.tal targets. Nerve transfers, where small fasci.les from an adjacent i.tact nerve are coapted to the nerve stump of a nearby denervated muscle, allow for functi.nal return but at the expense of reduced numbers of i.nervati.g nerves. A 1-hour peri.d of 20 Hz electri.al nerve sti.ulati.n vi. electrodes proxi.al to an i.jury si.e accelerates axon outgrowth to hasten target rei.nervati.n i. rats and humans, even after delayed surgery. A novel strategy of enti.i.g donor axons from an otherwi.e i.tact nerve to grow through small nerve grafts（cross-bri.ges） i.to a denervated nerve stump, promotes i.proved axon regenerati.n after delayed nerve repai..
