An approach for measuring spatial similarity among COVID-19 epicenters

Most countries and territories worldwide are affected by coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19),and some cities have become known as epicenters owing to high *** of the changeable and unknown nature of the virus,managers of different cities could learn from the experiences of cities that have been successful in controlling COVID-19 instead of wasting time exploring different *** would be even more beneficial if they analyzed the experiences of similar *** similarity of such cities could be examined within a geographic information system based on various *** study investigated the similarities among eight cities-Wuhan,Tehran,Bergamo,Madrid,Paris,Daegu,New York,and Berlin-in terms of the COVID-19 situation(target)in these locations based on proximity factors,weather,and demographic ***,the factor and target layers were prepared,and then similar cities were identified using a similarity model and different distance *** results were aggregated using the Copeland method because of the different outcomes for each *** most similar city was identified for each selected city,and its similarity level was determined based on these *** results suggested the following pairs of similar cities:Wuhan-Berlin,Tehran-Berlin,Daegu-Wuhan,Bergamo-Madrid,Paris-Madrid,and New York-Paris based on COVID-19 related data up to 15 April 2020(target T1),and Daegu-Wuhan,Tehran-Madrid,Bergamo-Paris,Berlin-Paris,and New York-Madrid up to 8 December 2021(target T2)with a minimum and maximum similarity rate of 82.85%and 92.36%,*** similar cities,the most similar factors among the proximity criteria are the distance from bus and metro stations;among weather,the criteria are humidity and pressure;and among demographics,the criteria are male and female population ratios,literacy ratio,and death ratio from asthma and cancer,with a minimum and maximum difference of 0%and 64.94%,*** addition,according to the rando

Cytomegalovirus ileo-pancolitis presenting as toxic megacolon in an immunocompetent patient: A case report

BACKGROUND Cytomegalovirus(CMV) enterocolitis presenting in the form of pancolitis or involving the small and large intestines in an immunocompetent patient is rarely encountered, and CMV enterocolitis presenting with a serious complication, such as toxic megacolon, in an immunocompetent adult has only been reported on a few *** SUMMARY We describe the case of a 70-year-old male with no history of inflammatory bowel disease or immunodeficiency who presented with toxic megacolon and subsequently developed massive hemorrhage as a complication of CMV ileopancolitis. The patient was referred to our institute for abdominal pain and distension. Abdominal X-ray showed marked dilatation of ileum and whole colon without air-fluid level, and sigmoidoscopy with biopsy failed to reveal any specific finding. After 7 d of conservative treatment, massive hematochezia developed, and he was diagnosed to have CMV enterocolitis by colonoscopy with biopsy. Although the diagnosis of CMV enterocolitis was delayed, the patient was treated successfully by repeat colonoscopic decompression and antiviral therapy with intravenous *** This report cautions that CMV-induced colitis should be considered as a possible differential diagnosis in a patient with intractable symptoms of enterocolitis or megacolon of unknown cause, even when the patient is nonimmunocompromised.

A small and medium enterprises(SMEs)manufacturing platform aims to perform as a significant revenue to SMEs and vendors by providing scheduling and monitoring *** optimal job shop scheduling is generated by utilizing the scheduling system of the platform,and a minimum production time,i.e.,makespan decides whether the scheduling is optimal or *** scheduling result allows manufacturers to achieve high productivity,energy savings,and customer *** in Industry 4.0 requires dynamic,uncertain,complex production environments,and customer-centered *** paper proposes a novel method for solving the difficulties of the SMEs manufacturing by applying and implementing the job shop scheduling system on a SMEs manufacturing *** primary purpose of the SMEs manufacturing platform is to improve the B2B relationship between manufacturing companies and *** platform also serves qualified and satisfactory production opportunities for buyers and producers by meeting two key factors:early delivery date and fulfillment of processing as many orders as *** genetic algorithm(GA)-based scheduling method results indicated that the proposed platform enables SME manufacturers to obtain optimized schedules by solving the job shop scheduling problem(JSSP)by comparing with the real-world data from a textile weaving factory in South *** proposed platform will provide producers with an optimal production schedule,introduce new producers to buyers,and eventually foster relationships and mutual economic interests.

Fucoidan-Based Theranostic Nanogel for Enhancing Imaging and Photodynamic Therapy of Cancer

In this study, a fucoidan-based theranostic nanogel(CFN-gel) consisting of a fucoidan backbone, redox-responsive cleavable linker and photosensitizer is developed to achieve acti-vatable near-infrared fluorescence imaging of tumor sites and an enhanced photodynamic therapy(PDT) to induce the com-plete death of cancer cells. A CFN-gel has nanomolar a nity for P-selectin, which is overexpressed on the surface of tumor neovascular endothelial cells as well as many other cancer cells. Therefore, a CFN-gel can enhance tumor accumulation through P-selectin targeting and the enhanced permeation and retention e ect. Moreover, a CFN-gel is non-fluorescent and non-phototoxic upon its systemic administration due to the aggregation-induced self-quenching in its fluorescence and singlet oxygen generation. After internalization into cancer cells and tumor neovascular endothelial cells, its photoactivity is recovered in response to the intracellular redox potential, thereby enabling selective near-infrared fluorescence imaging and an enhanced PDT of tumors. Since a CFN-gel also shows nanomolar a nity for the vascular endothelial growth factor, it also provides a significant anti-tumor e ect in the absence of light treatment in vivo. Our study indicates that a fucoidan-based theranostic nanogel is a new theranostic material for imaging and treating cancer with high e cacy and specificity.

Web Tension Regulation of Multispan Roll-to-Roll System using Integrated Active Dancer and Load Cells for Printed Electronics Applications

The mass production of primed electronics can be achieved by roll-to-roll（R2R） printing system, so highly accurate web tension is required that can minimize the register error and keep the thickness and roughness of printed devices in limits. The web tension of a R2R system is regulated by the use of integrated load cells and active dancer system for printed electronics applications using decentralized multi-input-single-output（miSO） regularized variable learning rate backpropagation artificial neural networks. The active dancer system is used before printing system to reduce disturbances in the web tension of process span. The classical PID control result in tension spikes with the change in roll diameter of winder and unwinder rolls. The presence of dancer in R2R system shows that improved web tension control in printing span and the web tension can be enhanced from 3.75 N to 4.75 N. The overshoot of system is less than ±2.5 N and steady state error is within ± 1 N where load cells have a signal noise of ±0.7 N. The integration of load cells and active dancer with self-adapting neural network control provide a solution to the web tension control of multispan roll-to-roll system.

Comparative toxicity of silver nanoparticles and silver ions to Escherichia coli

With the increase in silver（Ag）-based products in our lives, it is essential to test the potential toxicity of silver nanoparticles（Ag NPs） and silver ions（Ag ions） on living organisms under various conditions. Here, we investigated the toxicity of Ag NPs with Ag ions to Escherichia coli K-12 strain under various conditions. We observed that both Ag NPs and Ag ions display antibacterial activities, and that Ag ions had higher toxicity to E. coli K-12 strain than Ag NPs under the same concentrations. To understand the toxicity of Ag NPs at a cellular level, reactive oxygen species（ROS） enzymes were detected for use as antioxidant enzymatic biomarkers. We have also studied the toxicity of Ag NPs and Ag ions under various coexistence conditions including： fixed total concentration, with a varied the ratio of Ag NPs to Ag ions; fixed the Ag NPs concentration and then increased the Ag ions concentration; fixed Ag ions concentration and then increasing the Ag NPs *** to Ag NPs and Ag ions clearly had synergistic toxicity; however, decreased toxicity（for a fixed Ag NPs concentration of 5 mg/L, after increasing the Ag ions concentration） to E. coli K-12 strain. Ag NPs and Ag ions in the presence of L-cysteine accelerated the bacterial cell growth rate, thereby reducing the bioavailability of Ag ions released from Ag NPs under the single and coexistence conditions. Effect of expanding nanocellulose sponge on nasal mucosal defects in an animal model

Free Energy Level Correction by Monte Carlo Resampling with Weighted Histogram Analysis Method

Free energy calculations may provide vital information for studying various chemical and biological *** mechanical methods are required to accurately describe interaction energies,but their computations are often too demanding for conformational *** a remedy,level correction schemes that allow calculating high level free energies based on conformations from lower level simulations have been ***,we present a variation of a Monte Carlo(MC)resampling approach in relation to the weighted histogram analysis method(WHAM).We show that our scheme can generate free energy surfaces that can practically converge to the exact one with sufficient sampling,and that it treats cases with insufficient sampling in a more stable manner than the conventional WHAM-based level correction *** can also provide a guide for checking the uncertainty of the levelcorrected surface and a well-defined criterion for deciding the extent of smoothing on the free energy surface for its visual *** demonstrate these aspects by obtaining the free energy maps associated with the alanine dipeptide and proton transfer network of the KillerRed protein in explicit water,and exemplify that the MC resampled WHAM scheme can be a practical tool for producing free energy surfaces of realistic systems.
