Monitoring taste-inducing ions and molecules continuously in liquids or solutions is of great considerable matter for the realization of the electronic tongue(E-tongue).Particularly from the five major tastes,the highly selective,sensitive detection of Na^(+)in real-time is *** is due to the saltiness of food is the key ingredient in most ***,existing Na^(+)detecting devices have relatively low performances of selectivity,sensitivity,and lack of on–off ***,conventional devices significantly deteriorate in capac-ity due to repetitive usage or lifetime shortage by degradation of the sensing ***,a graphene-based channel was rationally designed by the facile decoration of Calix[4]arene and Nafion to address this *** act as a receptor and a molecular sieve,respectively,to enhance selectivity and sensitivity and elon-gate the life expectancy of the *** device was merged with a microfluidic channel to control the injection and withdrawal of solutions to fulfill dynamic on–off *** fabricated device has highly selective,sensitive Na^(+)detection properties compared to other 10 molecule/ionic *** on–off functions of the device were available,also possesses a long lifespan of at least 220 ***,it can precisely discriminate real beverages containing Na^(+),which can be observed by principal component analysis *** features offer the possibility of ascending to a platform for E-tongues in near future.

Although bismuth vanadate(BiVO4)has been promising as photoanode material for photoelectrochemical water splitting,its charge recombination issue by short charge diffusion length has led to various studies about heterostructure *** a hole blocking layer of BiVO4,titanium dioxide(TiO_(2)) has been considered unsuitable because of its relatively positive valence band edge and low electrical ***,a crystal facet engineering of TiO_(2) nanostructures is proposed to control band structures for the hole blocking layer of BiVO4 *** design two types of TiO_(2) nanostructures,which are nanorods(NRs)and nanoflowers(NFs)with different(001)and(110)crystal facets,respectively,and fabricate BiVO4/TiO_(2) heterostructure *** BiVO4/TiO_(2) NFs showed 4.8 times higher photocurrent density than the BiVO4/TiO_(2) *** decay time analysis and time-resolved photoluminescence reveal the enhancement is attributed to the reduced charge recombination,which is originated from the formation of type II band alignment between BiVO4 nanodots and TiO_(2) *** work provides not only new insights into the interplay between crystal facets and band structures but also important steps for the design of highly efficient photoelectrodes.

We demonstrate a new technique of measuring differential carrier lifetime and linewidth enhancement factor in a semiconductor optical amplifier. In our method, the optical responses and fiber transfer functions of a self-gain modulated SOA are measured and, from these, values of carrier lifetimes and linewidth enhancement factors are determined for various SOA input optical powers.

AIM: To study the anti-inflammatory effects of aqueous extract from Dichroafebrifuga root (AEDF) for suppression in the process of lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced sepsis in the rat liver. METHODS: The inhibitory effect of AEDF on the alteration of inflammatory proteins was investigated by Western blot and immunohistochemical analysis. RESULTS: Western blot analysis showed that the level of nuclear factor (NF)-κBp65 was markedly up-regulated and (Ⅰ)κBα was down-regulated by LPS (8 mg/kg) challenge. However, AEDF 100 mg/kg inhibited induction of NF-κBp65 and degradation of Ⅰ-κBα in the liver of LPS-challenged rats. Immunohistochemical analysis showed that while the expression of the NF-κBp65, tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, and inducible nitric oxide synthase(iNOS) tended to increase, that of Ⅰ-κBα was decreased in the hepatocytes of rats challenged with LPS. A slight decline of NF-κBp65, TNF-α, and iNOS, but an increase of Ⅰ-κBα were observed in the hepatocytes of the rats pretreated with AEDF. CONCLUSION: AEDF may act as a therapeutic agent for inflammatory disease through a regulation of inflammation-related proteins.

Polyelectrolyte complex micelles by self-assembly of polypeptide-based triblock copolymer for doxorubicin delivery

Polyelectrolyte complex micelles were prepared by self-assembly of polypeptide-based triblock copolymer as a new drug carrier for cancer *** triblock copolymer,poly(L-aspartic acid)-b-poly(ethylene glycol)-b-poly(L-aspartic acid)(PLD-b-PEG-b-PLD),spontaneously self-assembled with doxorubicin(DOX)via electrostatic interactions to form spherical micelles with a particle size of 60e80 nm(triblock ionomer complexes micelles,TBIC micelles).These micelles exhibited a high loading capacity of 70%(w/w)at a drug/polymer ratio of 0.5 at pH *** showed pH-responsive release patterns,with higher release at acidic pH than at physiological ***,DOX-loaded TBIC micelles exerted less cytotoxicity than free DOX in the A-549 human lung cancer cell *** microscopy in A-549 cells indicated that DOX-loaded TBIC micelles were transported into lysosomes via *** micelles possessed favorable pharmacokinetic characteristics and showed sustained DOX release in ***,these findings indicate that PLDb-PEG-b-PLD polypeptide micelles are a promising approach for anti-cancer drug delivery.

Quantitative comparison of similarity measure and entropy for fuzzy sets

Comparison and data analysis with the similarity measures and entropy for fuzzy sets were carried out. The distance proportional value between the fuzzy set and the corresponding crisp set was considered by the fuzzy entropy. The relation between the similarity measure and the entropy for fuzzy set was also analyzed. The fuzzy entropy was reformulated as the dissimilarity measure. Furthermore, crisp set having the minimum uncertainty with respect to the corresponding fuzzy set was also proposed. Finally, derivation of a similarity measure from entropy with the help of total information property was derived. A simple example shows the relation between similarity measure and fuzzy entropy, in which the summation of similarity measure and fuzzy entropy represents a constant value.

Chondrogenesis of periodontal ligament stem cells by transforming growth factor-β3 and bone morphogenetic protein-6 in a normal healthy impacted third molar

The periodontal ligament-derived mesenchymal stem cell is regarded as a source of adult stem cells due to its ***, the proof of chondrogenic potential of the cells is ***,we investigated the chondrogenic differentiation capacity of periodontal ligament derived mesenchymal stem cells induced by transforming growth factor(TGF)-p3 and bone morphogenetic protein(BMP)-*** isolation of periodontal ligament stem cells(PDLSCs) from human periodontal ligament,the cells were cultured in Dulbecco’s modified Eagle’s medium(DMEM) with 20%fetal bovine serum(FBS).A mechanical force initiated chondrogenic differentiation of the *** chondrogenic differentiation,10μg·LTGF-β3 or 100μg·LBMP-6 and the combination treating group for synergistic effect of the growth *** analyzed the PDLSCs by fluorescence-activated cell sorting and chondrogenesis were evaluated by glycosaminoglycans assay,histology,immunohistochemistry and genetic *** showed mesenchymal stem cell properties proved by FACS *** contents were increased 217%by TGF-β3 and 220%by BMP-6. The synergetic effect of TGF-β3 and BMP-6 were shown up to 281%compared to *** combination treatment increased Sox9, aggrecan and collagen II expression compared with not only controls,but also TGF-P3 or BMP-6 single treatment *** histological analysis also indicated the chondrogenic differentiation of PDLSCs in our *** results of the present study demonstrate the potential of the dental stem cell as a valuable cell source for chondrogenesis,which may be applicable for regeneration of cartilage and bone fracture in the field of cell therapy.

Optical anisotropy,which is an intrinsic property of many materials,originates from the structural arrangement of molecular structures,and to date,various polarization-sensitive imaging(PSI)methods have been developed to investigate the nature of anisotropic *** particular,the recently developed tomographic PSI technologies enable the investigation of anisotropic materials through volumetric mappings of the anisotropy distribution of these ***,these reported methods mostly operate on a single scattering model,and are thus not suitable for three-dimensional(3D)PSI imaging of multiple scattering ***,we present a novel reference-free 3D polarization-sensitive computational imaging technique—polarization-sensitive intensity diffraction tomography(PS-IDT)—that enables the reconstruction of 3D anisotropy distribution of both weakly and multiple scattering specimens from multiple intensity-only measurements.A 3D anisotropic object is illuminated by circularly polarized plane waves at various illumination angles to encode the isotropic and anisotropic structural information into 2D intensity *** information are then recorded separately through two orthogonal analyzer states,and a 3D Jones matrix is iteratively reconstructed based on the vectorial multi-slice beam propagation model and gradient descent *** demonstrate the 3D anisotropy imaging capabilities of PS-IDT by presenting 3D anisotropy maps of various samples,including potato starch granules and tardigrade.

Development of a skill assessment tool for the Korea operational oceanographic system

A standard skill assessment （SA） tool was developed and implemented to evaluate the performance of op- erational forecast models in the Korea operational oceanographic system. The SA tool provided a robust way to assess model skill in the system by comparing predictions and observations, and involved the com- putation of multiple skill metrics including correlation and error skills. User- and system-based acceptance criteria of skill metrics were applied to determine whether predictions were acceptable for the system. To achieve this, the tool produced a time series comparison plot, a skill score table, and an advanced sum- marized diagram to effectively demonstrate the multiple skill scores. Moreover, the SA was conducted to evaluate both atmospheric and hydrodynamic forecast variables. For the atmospheric variables, acceptable error criteria were preferable to acceptable correlation criteria over short timescales, since the mean square error overwhelmed the observation variance. Conversely, for the hydrodynamic variables, acceptable root mean square percentage error （e.g., perms） criteria were preferable to acceptable error （e.g., erms） criteria owing to the spatially variable tidal intensity around the Korean Peninsula. Furthermore, the SA indicated that predetermined acceptance error criteria were appropriate to satisfy a target central frequency （fc） for which errors fell within the specified limits （i.e., the .fc equals 70%）.

Removal of arsenate and arsenite from aqueous solution by waste cast iron

The removal of As（III） and As（V） from aqueous solution was investigated using waste cast iron, which is a byproduct of the iron casting process in foundries. Two types of waste cast iron were used in the experiment： grind precipitate dust （GPD） and cast iron shot （CIS）. The X-ray diffraction analysis indicated the presence of Fe~ on GPD and CIS. Batch experiments were performed under different concentrations of As（III） and As（V） and at various initial pH levels. Results showed that waste cast iron was effective in the removal of arsenic. The adsorption isotherm study indicated that the Langmuir isotherm was better than the Freundlich isotherm at describing the experimental result. In the adsorption of both As（III） and As（V）, the adsorption capacity of GPD was greater than CIS, mainly due to the fact that GPD had higher surface area and weight percent of Fe than CIS. Results also indicated the removal of As（III） and As（V） by GPD and CIS was influenced by the initial solution pH, generally decreasing with increasing pH from 3.0 to 10.5. In addition, both GPD and CIS were more effective at the removal of As（III） than As（V） under given experimental conditions. This study demonstrates that waste cast iron has potential as a reactive material to treat wastewater and groundwater containing arsenic.
