AIM： To evaluate the association of glutathione S-trans-ferase mu （GSTM1） and glutathione S-transferase theta （GSTT1） null genotypes with the risk of gastric cancer （GC） and colorectal cancer （CRC） in a South Korean population. METHODS： We conducted a population-based, large- scale case-control study including 2213 GCs, 1829 CRCs, and 1699 controls. Null and non-null genotypes of GSTM1 and GSI-F1 were determined using realtime PCR. RESULTS： The null genotypes of GSTM1 and GSTT1 were not significantly associated with elevated risk of gastric （OR = 1.070, 95% CI = 0.935-1.224; OR = 1.101, 95% CI = 0.963-1.259, respectively） or colorectal cancer （OR = 1.065, 95% CI = 0.923-1.228; OR = 1.041, 95% CI = 0.903-1.200, respectively）. The frequency of the combined null GST genotype was not different between the two cancer groups and controls. Moreover, smoking, drinking, and age did not modify the association between these genotypes and the risk of gastric or colorectal cancer. CONCLUSION： GSTM1 and GSCI-1 null genotypes were not associated with increased risk of GC or CRC in Koreans.

AIM： To identify the clinicopathological characteristics of lymph node-negative gastric carcinoma, and also to evaluate outcome indicators in the lymph node-negative patients.METHODS： Of 2848 gastric carcinoma patients, 1524 （53.5%） were lymph nede-negative. A statistical analysis was performed using the Cox model to estimate outcome indicators. RESULTS： There was a significant difference in the recurrence rate between lymph nede-negative and lymph node-positive patients （14.4% vs 41.0%, P〈0.001）. The 5-year survival rate was significantly lower in lymph node-positive than in lymph node-negative patients （31.1% vs 77.4%, P〈0.001）. Univariate analysis revealed that the following factors influenced the 5-year survival rate： patient age, tumor size, depth of invasion, tumor location, operative type, and tumor stage at initial diagnosis. The Cox proportional hazard regression model revealed that tumor size, serosal invasion, and curability were independent, statistically significant, prognostic indicators of lymph node-negative gastric carcinoma. CONCLUSION： Lymph node-negative patients have a favorable outcome attributable to high curability, but the patients with relatively large tumors and serosal invasion have a poor prognosis. Curability is one of the most reliable predictors of long-term survival for lymph nodenegative gastric carcinoma patients.

Expression of oncogenes m colorectal cancer tissue was evaluated with immunohistochemical staining methods using monoclonal antibodies to products of the oncogenes. Rates of expression in colorectal cancer tissue were 52.5％ for c-myc, 67.0％ for c-erb B and 63.3％ for c-Ha-ras oncogenes. Expression of c-Ha-ras in colorectal cancer was not correlated with the histologic differentiation. However, expression of myc oncogene was higher in well differentiated adenocarcinoma(p＜0.05). There were no correlation between expression of c-Ha-ms, c-myc, and c-erb B2 oncogenes and lymph node and/or distant metastasis. Results showed that these three oncogenes were not related to the prognosis or survival of colorectal cancer patients.

k-Nearest Neighbor Query Processing Algorithms for a Query Region in Road Networks

Recent development of wireless communication technologies and the popularity of smart phones .are making location-based services （LBS） popular. However, requesting queries to LBS servers with users＇ exact locations may threat the privacy of users. Therefore, there have been many researches on generating a cloaked query region for user privacy protection. Consequently, an efficient query processing algorithm for a query region is required. So, in this paper, we propose k-nearest neighbor query （k-NN） processing algorithms for a query region in road networks. To efficiently retrieve k-NN points of interest （POIs）, we make use of the Island index. We also propose a method that generates an adaptive Island index to improve the query processing performance and storage usage. Finally, we show by our performance analysis that our k-NN query processing algorithms outperform the existing k-Range Nearest Neighbor （kRNN） algorithm in terms of network expansion cost and query processing time.

We study a spherically symmetric spacetime made of an anisotropic fluid whose radial equation-of-state is given by p_1=-ρ. This case allows analytic solutions and is a good example for studying the static configuration of a black hole plus matter. For a given equation-of-state parameter w_2 = p_2/ρ for angular directions, we find the exact solutions of the Einstein equation described by two parameters. We classify the solutions into six types based on the behavior of the metric function. Depending on the parameters, the solutions can have event and cosmological horizons. One of the solution types corresponds to a generalization of the Reissner-Nordstr(o|¨)m black hole, the thermodynamic properties for which are obtained in a simple form. The solutions are stable under radial perturbations.

The World Health Organization has raised concerns about the possibility of airborne transmission in enclosed and poorly ventilated ***,rapid monitoring of airborne viruses is necessary in multi-use facilities with dense ***,an electrostatic air sampler(250 L/min)was developed in this work to obtain indoor viral aerosol samples for analysis via the Polymerase Chain Reaction(PCR).Aerosol tests with H1N1 and HCoV-229E were performed to evaluate the sample collection *** analysis,along with another aerosol test,was conducted to evaluate the recovery of the virus particles collected by the *** laboratory tests,our electrostatic sampler obtained viral samples that were detectable by PCR under the simulated viral pandemic scenario(3000 RNA copies per cubic meter of air)within 40 *** resulting cycle threshold(C)values were 35.07 and 37.1 for H1N1 and HCoV-229E,*** the performance evaluation in the laboratory,field tests were conducted in a university classroom from October 28 to December 2,*** A and HCoV-229E were detected in two air samples,and the corresponding C,values were 35.3 and *** PCR results are similar to those obtained from laboratory tests,considering the simulatedviralpandemic scenario.

We propose a two-stage stochastic model for optimizing the operation of energy storage. The model captures two important features: uncertain real-time prices when day-ahead operational commitments are made;and the price impact of charging and discharging energy storage. We demonstrate that if energy storage has full flexibility to make real-time adjustments to its day-ahead commitment and market prices do not respond to charging and discharging decisions, there is no value in using a stochastic modeling framework, i.e., the value of stochastic solution is always zero. This is because in such a case the energy storage behaves purely as a financial arbitrageur day ahead, which can be captured using a deterministic *** show also that prices responding to its operation can make it profitable for energy storage to "waste" energy, for instance by charging and discharging simultaneously, which is normally sub-optimal. We demonstrate our model and how to calibrate the price-response functions from historical data with a practical case study.
