The secosteroid hormone vitamin D has, in addition to its effects in bone metabolism also functions in the modulation of immune responses against infectious agents and in inhibiting tumorigenesis. Thus, deficiency of vitamin D is associated with several malignancies, but also with a plethora of infectious diseases. Among other communicable diseases, vitamin D deficiency is involved in the pathogenesis of chronic liver diseases caused by hepatitis B and C viruses(HBV, HCV) and high prevalence of vitamin D deficiency with serum levels below 20 mg/mL in patients with HBV and HCV infection are found worldwide. Several studies have assessed the effects of vitamin D supplementation on the sustained virological response(SVR) to interferon(IFN) plus ribavirin(RBV) therapy in HBV and HCV infection. In these studies, inconsistent results were reported. This review addresses general aspects of vitamin D deficiency and, in particular, the significance of vitamin D hypovitaminosis in the outcome of HBVand HCV-related chronic liver diseases. Furthermore,current literature was reviewed in order to understand the effects of vitamin D supplementation in combination with IFN-based therapy on the virological response in HBV and HCV infected patients.

We study a proposed model describing the propagation of computer virus in the network with antidote in vulnerable system. Mathematical analysis shows that dynamics of the spread of computer viruses is determined by the threshold Ro. If Ro 〈 1, the virusfree equilibrium is globally asymptotically stable, and if R0 〉 1, the endemic equilibrium is globally asymptotically stable. Lyapunov functional method as well as geometric approach are used for proving the global stability of equilibria. A numerical investigation is carried out to confirm the analytical results. Through parameter analysis, some effective strategies for eliminating viruses are suggested.

Various efficient generalized sphere decoding (GSD) algorithms have been proposed to approach optimal ML performance for underdetermined linear systems, by transforming the original problem into the full-column-rank one so that standard SD can be fully applied. However, their design parameters are heuristically set based on observation or the possibility of an ill-conditioned transformed matrix can affect their searching efficiency. This paper presents a better transformation to alleviate the ill-conditioned structure and provides a systematic approach to select design parameters for various GSD algorithms in order to high efficiency. Simulation results on the searching performance confirm that the proposed techniques can provide significant improvement.

Due to the large number of users and the time-varying characteristics of wireless channels, it is very tough to inform the transmitter of full channel information in real multi-user MIMO broadcast systems. On the other hand, the capacity of multi-user systems greatly depends on the knowledge of the channel at the transmitter while this is not always the case in single-user MIMO systems. In this paper, we investigate combined user selection and zero-forcing precoding schemes that use partial channel information, i.e., very low amount of channel information at the base station. We show that while greatly reducing the complexity and channel knowledge feedback load, the proposed schemes preserve the optimality of zero-forcing scheme in term of achievable ergodic sum capacity in limit of large number of active users.

International joint ventures （IJVs） have increasingly their role in business world and also in research field of international business. There have been a lot of studies related to determinant factors of IJV performance. However, there are very few studies focusing on the measurement of I Jr performance. Especially, researchers have ignored how foreign parent firms really choose their measures in the evaluation of their IJV performance. This research investigates determinant factors of performance measures of 1JVs. Determinant factors of IJV performance measures include motives for establishment, establishment mode, location of IJVs, distribution of ownership in IJVs, cultural background of parent firms, and trust between partners, IJV life stages, parent firms＇ international experience, and relatedness of the IJVs to their parents. Performance measures are divided into financial measures and non-financial measures. The paper shows how different determinant factors are expected to lead foreign parent firms preferring one kind of measure over the other.

Maximum Ratio Combining Precoding for Multi-Antenna Relay Systems

This paper addresses the design of practical communication strategies for multi-antenna amplify-and-forward and decode-and-forward relay systems. We show that simple linear techniques at the source and destination in conjunction with maximum ratio combining can provide an optimal transmission strategy in terms of received SNR without imposing a huge computational load over the relay node(s). Besides, the structures of precoding matrices are very similar at the source and relay nodes, which reduces the complexity as all nodes can play the role of source and relay nodes without changing their transmission structure. Numerical results show that the proposed transmission and reception techniques can improve the received SNR, and hence enhance the ergodic capacity.

In this work, the authors present some results of strain monitoring within the territory of Vietnam from 1984 to 2001. Data analysis shows that (1) the Phu Lien area is tectonically stable with low strain rate, 1×10\+\{-6\} /a; (2) the Hoa Binh area has indication of tectonic instability with relatively high strain rate of the earth crust: absolute value of the strain reaching 100×10\+\{-6\}, usual average strain amplitude of 60×10\+\{-6\}, whereas the monthly average strain intensity varies in a range from 30×10\+\{-6\} to 50×10\+\{-6\}; (3) there are clear indications of the strain state of the earth crust before occurrence of earthquakes of medium or higher magnitude. This is a very important indication in the research and short term prediction of earthquakes, especially for the areas with low seismic stability like the NW of Vietnam.

Background:Wound healing has being extensively investigated over the *** impairment is caused by many reasons including increasing of free-radicals-mediated damage,delaying in granulation tissue formation,reducing in angiogenesis and decreasing in collagen *** facts consequently lead to chronic wound *** betle Linn(Betle)leaves have been folklore used as an ingredient of drugs for cutaneous wound ***,the effect of betle leaf on wound healing is not yet well *** this study,we aimed to investigate the healing efficacy of methanol leaf extract of Piper betle Linn on proliferation of fibroblast NIH3T3 cells as well as full-thickness burn and excision wounds in swiss ***:Scratch wound healing assays were conducted to examine the effects of betle leaf extract on healing activity of fibroblast *** and excision wounds on swiss mouse skins were created for investigating the wound healing progress caused by the betle leaf ***(MDA)was also evaluated to examine the products of lipid hydroperoxide(LPO)under conditions of with or without betle leaf extract ***:The results of this study showed that Piper betle Linn leaf extract in methanol increased proliferation of NIH3T3 cells and promoted wound healing in vitro and in vivo with both burn wound and excision wound *** addition,this extract significant decreased level of malondialdehyde(MDA)in liver of treated-mice compared with that in non-treated ***:Our results suggest that Piper betle Linn can be used as an ingredient in developing natural origin drugs for treatment of cutaneous wounds.
