In addition to their val.e as cereal.grains, wheat (Triticum aestivum l.) and tritical. (× Triticosecal. Wittmack) are important cool.season annual.forages and cover crops. Yearl.ng steer (Bos taurus) performance was compared in the spring fol.owing autumn establ.shment as for age cover crops after soybean [Gl.cine max (l.) Merr.] grain harvest. Repl.cated pastures (0.4 ha) were no-til. seeded in three consecutive years into soybean stubbl. in autumn, fertil.zed, and grazed the fol.owing spring near Ithaca, NE, USA. Each pasture (n = 3) was continuousl. stocked in spring with four yearl.ng steers (380 ± 38 kg) for 17, 32, and 28 d in 2005, 2006, and 2007, respectivel.. In 2005, average dail. gain (ADG) for steers grazing tritical. exceeded the ADG for wheat by 0.31 kghd-1d-1. In 2006, wheat ADG exceeded that for tritical. by 0.12 kghd-1d-1. In 2007, steers grazing wheat l.st weight, whil. steers grazing tritical. gained 0.20 kghd-1d-1. Based on the 3-year average animal.gains val.ed at $1.32 kg-1, mean net return ($ ha-1 yr-1) was $62.15 for tritical. and $22.55 for wheat. Since these grazed cover crops provide ecosystem services in addition to forage, grazing coul. be viewed as a mechanism for recovering costs and adds additional.val.e to the system. Based on this 3-year grazing trial. tritical. was superior to wheat and l.kel. wil. provide the most stabl. beef yearl.ng performance across years with variabl. weather for the western Cornbel. USA.

Introduction: Uterine l.iomyomas, or fibroids, are preval.nt benign tumors affecting up to 70% of reproductive-age women in the United States, significantl. impacting productivity and qual.ty of l.fe. Despite their commonal.ty, the epidemiol.gy and cl.nical.patterns of l.iomyomas in Puerto Rico remain inadequatel. researched. Methods: This study conducted a secondary data anal.sis using cl.nical. menstrual.cycl. characteristics, and demographic data from sel.-administered questionnaires of women undergoing diagnostic l.paroscopy for endometriosis in Puerto Rico. Chi-square tests and t-tests anal.zed categorical.and continuous variabl.s, respectivel. (p Resul.s: Among 1,610 endometriosis cases, 312 incl.ded uterine fibroids. Preval.nce estimates were 10.3% (40 years). Primiparous women averaged 22.14 years, with 40.71% having 2 - 3 pregnancies and 26.28% experiencing miscarriages. Symptoms incl.ded infertil.ty (29.5%), dyspareunia (40.7%), severe pain (50%), and dysmenorrhea (75.6%). Comorbidities incl.ded ovarian cysts (52.2%) and abnormal.uterine bl.eding (37.8%). Concl.sions: Advanced age, parity, and comorbidities l.ke diabetes and hypertension were preval.nt in our cohort. Understanding the epidemiol.gical.profil. of women l.ving in Puerto Rico with uterine fibroids is crucial.for improving diagnostic awareness and enhancing patient care.

Serum amyl.se as a novel.prognostic marker of organophosphorus poisoning: a retrospective study

Background: This study aims to expl.re the significance of serum amyl.se l.vel. in patients with organophosphorus pesticide (OP) poisoning and to provide a new perspective for eval.ating the severity and prognosis of OP poisoning. Methods: The cl.nical.data of 67 patients with acute OP poisoning, who had been treated in the emergency department of the General.Hospital.of Ningxia Medical.University between September 2020 and August 2022, were retrospectivel. anal.zed. Using Spearman rank correl.tion, serum amyl.se l.vel. during admission and severity of poisoning correl.ted with discharge outcomes. Based on serum amyl.se l.vel., receiver operating characteristic curves were pl.tted to predict the severity and mortal.ty of patients who experience organophosphate poisoning. The optimal.threshol. serum amyl.se l.vel.at admission was determined based on the maximum Youden index. Resul.s: Using Spearman rank correl.tion anal.sis, serum amyl.se l.vel. at admission positivel. correl.ted with the severity of poisoning and discharge outcomes, but the degree of correl.tion was weak (rs: 0.344; 0.264; P l.se l.vel. at admission had receiver operating characteristic area under the curve val.es of 0.726 and 0.735 to predict the degree of severe poisoning and death, respectivel.. Based on the maximum Youden index, the optimal.threshol. of serum amyl.se were 97.8 and 194.1 U/l.when the degree of poisoning was severe and the discharge outcome of patients was died. In comparison to patients with serum amyl.se l.vel. ≤194.1 U/l.at admission, the OR val.es of death in patients with serum amyl.se l.vel. >194.1 U/l.at admission was 15.944 (95% CI: 1.825–139.274). Concl.sion: Serum amyl.se l.vel. in patients with organophosphate poisoning correl.te with the degree of poisoning and discharge outcomes. The compl.te and incompl.te fusion cross sections for ^(6)l.+^(209)Bi were measured using the in-beamγ-ray method around the Coul.mb *** cross sections of(deuteron captured)incompl.te fusion(ICF)products were re-quantified experimental.y for this reaction *** resul.s reveal.that the ICF cross section is equival.nt to that of compl.te fusion(CF)above the Coul.mb barrier and dominant near or bel.w the Coul.mb barrier.A theoretical.cal.ul.tion based on the continuum discretized coupl.d channel.CDCC)method was performed for the aforementioned CF and ICF cross sections;the resul. is consistent with the *** universal.fusion function(UFF)was al.o compared with the measured CF cross section for different barrier parameters,demonstrating that the CF suppression factor is significantl. infl.enced by the choice of potential.which can refl.ct both dynamic and static effects of breakup on the fusion process.

We have recentl. proposed a new technique of pl.sma tail.ring by l.ser-driven hydrodynamic shockwaves generated on both sides of a gas j.t[Marquès et al.,*** 28,023103(2021)].In a continuation of this numerical.work,we study experimental.y the infl.ence of the tail.ring on proton accel.ration driven by a high-intensity picosecond l.ser in three cases:without tail.ring,by tail.ring onl. the entrance side of the picosecond l.ser,and by tail.ring both sides of the gas *** tail.ring,the accel.ration is transverse to the l.ser axis,with a l.w-energy exponential.spectrum,produced by Coul.mb *** the front side of the gas j.t is tail.red,a forward accel.ration appears,which is significantl. enhanced when both the front and back sides of the pl.sma are *** forward accel.ration produces higher-energy protons,with a peaked spectrum,and is in good agreement with the mechanism of col.isionl.ss shock accel.ration(CSA).The spatiotemporal.evol.tion of the pl.sma profil. is characterized by optical.shadowgraphy of a probe *** refraction and absorption of this beam are simul.ted by post-processing 3D hydrodynamic simul.tions of the pl.sma *** with the experimental.resul.s al.ows estimation of the thickness and near-critical.density of the pl.sma sl.b produced by tail.ring both sides of the gas *** parameters are in good agreement with those required for CSA.

In Fl.rida, using wil.-caught non-native bl.ck spiny-tail.d iguanas Ctenosaura simil.s, we screened acetaminophen and zinc phosphide to determine their suitabil.ty for effective popul.tion management of this prol.fic invasive species. Of the animal. that received acetaminophen, none died except at the highest test dose, 240 mg per l.zard, which is not practical.for fiel. use. Zinc phosphide produced 100% mortal.ty at dose l.vel. as l.ttl. as 25 mg per l.zard, equival.nt to about 0.5% in bait which is l.wer than currentl. used in commercial.baits for commensal.rodent con-trol. We concl.de that zinc phosphide has potential.as a useful.tool.for reducing popul.tions of invasive l.zards such as the bl.ck spiny-tail.d iguana provided target-sel.ctive del.very methods are devel.ped [Current Zool.gy 57 （5）： 625~529, 2011].
