Anticancer effect of Psidium guajava(Guava) leaf extracts against colorectal cancer through inhibition of angiogenesis

Objective:To evaluate the anti-angiogenic and anticancer activities of Psidium guajava leaf extracts against angiogenesis-dependent colorectal ***:Three extracts were produced using distilled water,ethanol,and n-hexane as *** extracts were physically characterised through gas chromatography–mass spectrometry,ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy,and Fourier transform infrared *** antioxidant activity was evaluated using the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl,total phenolic content,and total flavonoid content *** assess their anti-angiogenic activity,cell viability and rat aortic ring assays were conducted,while cell migration,tube formation,colony formation,and VEGF ELISA assays were conducted to elucidate their effects on different aspects of *** docking was used to assess the antiangiogenic potential of some possible compounds in the *** spheroid assay was used to assess the extracts’potential as a treatment for colorectal ***:The ethanol extract showed the best antioxidant *** distilled water and ethanol extracts exhibited more inhibitory activity against ***926 cell viability and aortic ring microvessel *** addition,the ethanol extract performed significantly better than the distilled water extract against cell migration and colony formation,and VEGF expression of the cells was suppressed by the ethanol *** the distilled water and ethanol extracts showed significant inhibitory effect on ***926 tube formation and tumour spheroids consisting of ***926 and HCT116 *** ethanol extract containedβ-caryophyllene andβ-elemene by phytochemical analysis and subsequent docking studies,which may contribute to its anti-angiogenic ***:The ethanol extract of Psidium guajava has potential in the treatment of colorectal cancer through the inhibition of angiogenesis.

Correction of laser sweeping nonlinearities using ultralow-loss on-chip 7 m spiral resonators

Swept laser interferometry is an extremely powerful solution embedded in several recent technologies such as absolute distance measurement,light detection and ranging (LiDAR),optical frequency domain reflectometry,optical coherence tomography,microresonator characterization,and gas *** in the optical frequency sweeping of tunable lasers is a fatal drawback in gaining the expected outcome from these ***,we introduce an on-chip,millimeter-scale,7 m spiral resonator that is made of ultralow-loss Si3N4to act as a frequency ruler for correction of the tunable lasers sweeping *** sharp 2 mHz frequency lines of the 8.5×107high-quality factor resonator and the narrow-spaced 25.566 mHz frequency ticks of the 7 m spiral allow unprecedented precision for an on-chip solution to correct the laser sweeping *** measurements of the ruler’s frequency spacing,linewidth,and temperature and wavelength sensitivities of the frequency ticks are performed here to demonstrate the quality of the frequency *** addition,the spiral resonator is implemented in an frequency-modulated continuous-wave LiDAR experiment to demonstrate a potential application of the proposed on-chip frequency ruler.

Polyphenols, a diverse group of naturally occurring compounds found in plants, have garnered significant attention for their potential therapeutic properties in treating neurodegenerative diseases (NDs). The Wnt/beta-catenin (W beta C) signaling pathway, a crucial player in neurogenesis, neuronal survival, and synaptic plasticity, is involved in several cellular mechanisms related to NDs. Dysregulation of this pathway is a hallmark in the development of various NDs. This study explores multiple polyphenolic compounds, such as flavonoids, stilbenes, lignans, and phenolic acids, and their potential to protect the nervous system. It provides a comprehensive analysis of their effects on the W beta C pathway, elucidating their modes of action. The study highlights the dual function of polyphenols in regulating and protecting the nervous system, providing reassurance about the research benefits. This review provides a comprehensive analysis of the results obtained from both in vitro studies and in vivo research, shedding light on how these substances influence the various components of the pathway. The focus is mainly on the molecular mechanisms that allow polyphenols to reduce oxidative stress, inflammation, and apoptotic processes, ultimately improving the function and survival of neurons. This study aims to offer a thorough understanding of the potential of polyphenols in targeting the W beta C signaling pathway, which could lead to the development of innovative therapeutic options for NDs.

Effect of nursing intervention on improving awareness of high-risk patients about stroke prevention

Objective: Stroke is perceived as a serious illness although it is preventable, and lifestyle alterations can be made to reduce its risk. Improvement of stroke care should be achieved through awareness of public, especially through high-risk group. Hencefor th, the aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of nursing intervention on improving awareness of high-risk people about stroke prevention. methods: A quasi-experimental design was used to carry out this study, where a purposive sample of 80 adult patients at high risk for stroke were enrolled while they were attending the out-patient clinics of Zagazig University Hospitals for follow-up treatment; they were divided into two groups: case(40 patients) and control(40 patients). An interview questionnaire was used to assess patients' knowledge regarding warning signs, risk factors, and immediate treatment; attitude; and their practice for prevention for stroke at pretest and posttest. Results: The study revealed the poor level of knowledge, bad level of preventive behavior, and negative attitude regarding stroke prevention at pre-intervention. However, after intervention, the high-risk people had fair level of knowledge with moderate practice for stroke prevention and positive attitude, with statistically significant difference between pre–post intervention and between the case and control groups. Conclusions: The study revealed that the nursing intervention seemed to change the knowledge, practice, and attitude of subjects regarding stroke prevention. This, in turn, implies that awareness of prevention of stroke and high-risk factor control could be impor tant to reduce the burden of stroke in Egypt. Thus, fur ther research on a larger scale is required to improve population knowledge and behavior for stroke prevention and control.

Synthesis, Characterization and Corrosion Inhibitive Properties of New Thiazole Based Polyamides Containing Diarylidenecyclohexanone moiety

The present work aimed to synthesize a new interesting series of thiazole based polyamides containing diarylidenecyclohexanone moiety 5a-5f using low temperature solution polycondensation technique. The new polymers were synthesized by the reaction of thiazole based monomer namely, bis（2-aminothiazol-4-ylbenzylidene）cyclohexanone 3 with different aliphatic and aromatic diacid chlorides using NmP, and in the presence of anhydrous Li Cl as catalyst. Adipoyl, sebacoyl, oxaloyl, terephthaloyl, isophthaloyl dichlorides and biphenyl dicarbonyl dichloride were used as diacid chlorides. The structure of the model compound 4 as well as the new polymers was confirmed by correct elemental and spectral analyses. The thermal properties of those polymers were evaluated by TGA and DTG measurements and correlated to their structural units, beside X-ray diffraction analysis, solubility and viscometry measurements. The inherent viscosities for the synthesized polymers were in the range 0.6–1.03 d L/g. On the other hand the corrosion inhibitive properties of monomer 3 as well as polyamides 5d and 5f as selected examples were carried out on carbon-steel in 0.5 mol/L H2SO4 at 40 °C. The calculated inhibition efficiency（IE%） for polymer 5d was in the range（82 ± 6）% in all selected concentrations. The best value of IE% was obtained at 1 mg/L to reach 98.24% for polymer 5d and at 0.5 mg/L to reach 87.75% for polymer 5f.

The Response of the Earth's Lower Ionosphere to Gamma-Ray Solar Flares and their Associated X-ray

The present work aims to explore the impact of solar gamma-ray fiares(GRFs),detected by the Fermi-Large Area Telescope(LAT),and their associated X-ray fiares(XRFs)on the Earth’s lower *** data of ionospheric parameter fmin were collected from the Yamagawa mid-latitude ionosonde station in *** most of the GRFs used in this study are associated with soft X-ray(SXR)emissions,detected by the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite(GOES),we classified them into three types:simultaneous(S),delayed(D)and not associated(N),refiecting the phase occurrence of the solar ***,the ionospheric D layer responds strongly to XRFs more than *** temporal profiles of the ionospheric parameter fmin show distinct behaviors as a response to the various GRF *** the case of the S-type,a single strong peak,with an average value of 5.2 mHz,emanates in the fmin profile within an average interval of time of less than half an *** the case of the D-type,two successive peaks appear in the fmin profile,with an average value of 6.0 mHz for the second peak through a time interval of one hour after the onset of gamma-ray(GR)*** response of the fmin parameter to the N-type fiares appears as a single peak with an average value of 4.8 mHz within about an *** notice that the difference between the fmin peak values and the corresponding reference ones(dfmin)is more convenient and representative than the fmin values,where the median GR fiux of the S-,D-and N-types tends to increase as the average dfmin increases.

Energy Efficient Scheduler of Aperiodic Jobs for Real-time Embedded Systems

Energy consumption has become a key metric for evaluating how good an embedded system is,alongside more performance metrics like respecting operation deadlines and speed of *** improvement is no longer the only metric by which optimality is *** fact,energy efficiency is becoming a preferred choice with a fundamental objective to optimize the system's *** this work,we propose an optimal energy efficient scheduling algorithm for aperiodic real-time jobs to reduce CPU energy ***,we apply the concept of real-time process scheduling to a dynamic voltage and frequency scaling(DVFS)*** address a variant of earliest deadline first(EDF)scheduling algorithm called energy saving-dynamic voltage and frequency scaling(ES-DVFS)algorithm that is suited to unpredictable future energy production and irregular job *** prove that ES-DVFS cannot attain a total value greater than C/ˆSα,whereˆS is the minimum speed of any job and C is the available energy *** also investigate the implications of having in advance,information about the largest job size and the minimum speed used for the competitive factor of *** show that such advance knowledge makes possible the design of semi-on-line algorithm,ES-DVFS∗∗,that achieved a constant competitive factor of 0.5 which is proved as an optimal competitive *** experimental study demonstrates that substantial energy savings and highest percentage of feasible job sets can be obtained through our solution that combines EDF and DVFS optimally under the given aperiodic jobs and energy models.

A Bit-level Text Compression Scheme Based on the ACW Algorithm

This paper presents a description and performance evaluation of a new bit-level, lossless, adaptive, and asymmetric data compression scheme that is based on the adaptive character wordlength （ACW（n）） algorithm. The proposed scheme enhances the compression ratio of the ACW（n） algorithm by dividing the binary sequence into a number of subsequences （s）, each of them satisfying the condition that the number of decimal values （d） of the n-bit length characters is equal to or less than 256. Therefore, the new scheme is referred to as ACW（n, s）, where n is the adaptive character wordlength and s is the number of subsequences. The new scheme was used to compress a number of text files from standard corpora. The obtained results demonstrate that the ACW（n, s） scheme achieves higher compression ratio than many widely used compression algorithms and it achieves a competitive performance compared to state-of-the-art compression tools.
