The interface mechanism between catalyst and carbon substrate has been the focus of research.In this paper,the FeCo alloy embedded N,S co-doped carbon substrate bifunctional catalyst(FeCo/S-NC)is obtained by a simple one-step pyrolysis strategy.The experimental results and density functional theory(DFT)calculation show that the formation of FeCo alloy is conducive to promoting electron transfer,and the introduction of S atom can enhance the interaction between FeCo alloy and carbon substrate,thus inhibiting the migration and agglomeration of particles on the surface of carbon material.The FeCo/SNC catalysts show outstanding performance for oxygen reduction reaction(ORR)and oxygen evolution reaction(OER).FeCo/S-NC shows a high half-wave potential(E_(1/2)=0.8823 V)for ORR and a low overpotential at 10 mA cm^(-2)(E_(j=10)=299 mV)for OER.In addition,compared with Pt/C+RuO_(2) assembled Zn-air battery(ZAB),the FeCo/S-NC assembled ZAB exhibits a larger power density(198.8 mW cm^(-2)),a higher specific capacity(786.1 mA h g_(zn)~(-1)),and ultra-stable cycle performance.These results confirm that the optimized composition and the interfacial interaction between catalyst and carbon substrate synergistically enhance the electrochemical performance.

Influence of Incomplete Soil Plugs on Bearing Capacities of Bucket Foundations in Clay

Due to the uneven seabed and heaving of soil during pumping,incomplete soil plugs may occur during the installation of bucket foundations,and the impacts on the bearing capacities of bucket foundations need to be evaluated.In this paper,the contact ratio(the ratio of the top diameter of the soil plug to the diameter of the bucket)and the soil plug ratio(the ratio of the soil heave height to the skirt height)are defined to describe the shape and size of the incomplete soil plug.Then,finite element models are established to investigate the bearing capacities of bucket foundations with incomplete soil plugs and the influences of the contact ratios,and the soil plug ratios on the bearing capacities are analyzed.The results show that the vertical bearing capacity of bucket foundations in homogeneous soil continuously improves with the increase of the contact ratio.However,in normally consolidated soil,the vertical bearing capacity barely changes when the contact ratio is smaller than 0.75,while the bearing capacity suddenly increases when the contact ratio increases to 1 due to the change of failure mode.The contact ratio hardly affects the horizontal bearing capacity of bucket foundations.Moreover,the moment bearing capacity improves with the increase of the contact ratio for small aspect ratios,but hardly varies with increasing contact ratio for aspect ratios larger than 0.5.Consequently,the reduction coefficient method is proposed based on this analysis to calculate the bearing capacities of bucket foundations considering the influence of incomplete soil plugs.The comparison results show that the proposed reduction coefficient method can be used to evaluate the influences of incomplete soil plug on the bearing capacities of bucket foundations.

BACKGROUND Prophylactic loop ileostomy is an effective way to reduce the clinical severity of anastomotic leakage following radical resection of rectal cancer.Incisional surgical site infection(SSI)is a common complication after ileostomy closure.AIM To evaluate the efficacy and safety of the micro-power negative pressure wound technique(MPNPWT)in preventing incisional SSI.METHODS This was a prospective,randomized controlled clinical trial conducted at a single center.A total of 101 consecutive patients who underwent ileostomy closure after rectal cancer surgery with a prophylactic ileostomy were enrolled from January 2019 to December 2021.Patients were randomly allocated into an MPNPWT group and a control group.The MPNPWT group underwent intermittent suturing of the surgical incision with 2-0 Prolene and was covered with a micro-power negative pressure dressing.The surgical outcomes were compared between the MPNPWT(n=50)and control(n=51)groups.Risk factors for incisional SSI were identified using logistic regression.RESULTS There were no differences in baseline characteristics between the MPNPWT(n=50)and control groups(n=51).The incisional SSI rate was significantly higher in the control group than in the MPNPWT group(15.7%vs 2.0%,P=0.031).However,MPNPWT did not affect other surgical outcomes,including intra-abdominal complications,operative time,and blood loss.Postoperative hospital stay length and hospitalization costs did not differ significantly between the two groups(P=0.069 and 0.843,respectively).None of the patients experienced adverse effects of MPNPWT,including skin allergy,dermatitis,and pain.MPNPWT also helped heal the infected incision.Our study indicated that MPNPWT was an independent protective factor[odds ratio(OR)=0.005,P=0.025)]and diabetes was a risk factor(OR=26.575,P=0.029)for incisional SSI.CONCLUSION MPNPWT is an effective and safe way to prevent incisional SSI after loop ileostomy closure.

OBJECTIVE:To explore the relationship between autophagy and apoptosis regulated by puerarin during osteoblastogenesis.METHODS:In this study,the effects of puerarin on the autophagic activity and apoptosis level of osteoblast precursors(MC3T3-E1 cells)was observed.Subsequently,the roles of puerarin on B-cell lymphoma-2(Bcl-2)phosphorylation at different sites in osteoblast precursors were observed.The effect of puerarin on the interaction between Bcl-2 and autophagy regulatory molecule or pro-apoptotic molecule was also investigated using Co-immunoprecipitation assays.In addition,the effect of puerarin on mitochondrial membrane potential of osteoblast precursors was also identified by mitochondrial membrane potential fluorescence probe assays.RESULTS:Our results showed that puerarin can promote the autophagic activity and apoptosis level of MC3T3-E1cells.In addition,puerarin promoted Bcl-2phosphorylation at Ser70 site,and the dissociation of Bcl-2-Beclin1 complex.Moreover,puerarin could enhance the binding of Bcl-2-Bcl-2-Associated X(Bax)complex in MC3T3-E1 cells.Furthermore,puerarin increased the mitochondrial membrane potential of MC3T3-E1 cells.CONCLUSIONS:Therefore,puerarin promotes Beclin1into autophagy flux through Bcl-2 phosphorylation at Ser70,thereby enhancing autophagy of osteoblast precursors,which mediates its anti-apoptotic role during osteoblastogenesis.Furthermore,the dissociation of Bcl-2-Beclin1 complex is conducive to the binding of Bcl-2-Bax complex,which resists the apoptosis of osteoblast precursors via the increased mitochondrial membrane potential.

Traditional river health assessment relies on limited water quality indices and representative organism activity,but does not comprehensively obtain biotic and abiotic information of the ecosystem.Here,we propose a new approach to evaluate the ecological and health risks of river aquatic ecosystems.First,detailed physicochemical and biological characterization of a river ecosystem can be obtained through pollutant determination(especially emerging pollutants)and DNA/RNA sequencing.Second,supervised machine learning can be applied to perform classification analysis of characterization data and ascertain river ecosystem ecology and health.Our proposed methodology transforms river ecosystem health assessment and can be applied in river management.

Metabolomic Analysis in Saliva and Different Brain Regions of Older Mice with Postoperative Delirium Behaviors

Objective Postoperative delirium(POD)has become a critical challenge with severe consequences and increased incidences as the global population ages.However,the underlying mechanism is yet unknown.Our study aimed to explore the changes in metabolites in three specific brain regions and saliva of older mice with postoperative delirium behavior and to identify potential non-invasive biomarkers.Methods Eighteen-month-old male C57/BL6 mice were randomly assigned to the anesthesia/surgery or control group.Behavioral tests were conducted 24 h before surgery and 6,9,and 24 h after surgery.Complement C3(C3)and S100 calcium-binding protein B protein(S100beta)levels were measured in the hippocampus,and a metabolomics analysis was performed on saliva,hippocampus,cortex,and amygdala samples.Results In total,43,33,38,and 14 differential metabolites were detected in the saliva,hippocampus,cortex,and amygdala,respectively.“Pyruvate”“alpha-linolenic acid”and“2-oleoyl-1-palmitoy-snglycero-3-phosphocholine”are enriched in one common pathway and may be potential non-invasive biomarkers for POD.Common changes were observed in the three brain regions,with the upregulation of 1-methylhistidine and downregulation of D-glutamine.Conclusion Dysfunctions in energy metabolism,oxidative stress,and neurotransmitter dysregulation are implicated in the development of POD.The identification of changes in the level of salivary metabolite biomarkers could aid in the development of noninvasive diagnostic methods for POD.

The step-up resonant converters are widely adopted to provide high voltage in kV-level for electric propulsion system due to their high efficiency,low mass,modularisation,and high-power density.The bipolar Cockcroft-Walton voltage multiplier(BiCWVM)is a major circuit that steps up the voltage in the resonant converter.However,the diode nonlinearity in BiCWVM can introduce self-sustained quasi-periodic oscillations in the voltage and current waveforms,which is commonly known as the Deane and Hamill(DH)phenomenon.The oscillation can lead to higher magnetic loss and control failure,and it is more likely to present in the gallium nitride-based converter due to the highfrequency operation.The authors aim to investigate and mitigate the DH phenomenon systematically so that proper mitigation can be implemented.To facilitate the investigation,the circuit before the BiCWVM in the converter is derived and modelled as a voltage source v_(m)and a series inductor L_(sy).Also,the reverse recovery process of the diode in the BiCWVM can be represented by a piecewise-linear(PWL)model,with the simplified circuit and PWL model,the relationship between voltage and current under different operating conditions can be determined with ease.The relationship allows to understand the mechanism of diode reverse recovery in BiCWVM that leads to DH phenomenon.Finally,a hybrid-/full-silicon carbide(SiC)design is proposed to mitigate the DH phenomenon,which is verified experimentally for a 300-kHz,5-W,20-V/1.5-kV GaN-based step-up resonant converter.

Ethylene-propylene block copolymer(EbP) is a vital component in impact polypropylene copolymer(IPC), yet its distribution in the multiphase composite material and how it influences the phase structure and the mechanical properties are not well understood. In this work,four IPCs were investigated by atomic force microscopy-infrared(AFM-IR) to assess the phase compositions in situ, based on which in conjunction with the chain microstructure information obtained ex situ the distributions of the copolymer components were derived for each alloy. For the IPCs whose EbP comprises long P and long E segments, the EbP fraction was found to phase separate from the rubber and the PP matrix to form the cores of the disperse particles with the E-P segmented copolymer(EsP). In contrast, in the IPC with EbP composed of long P and short E segments, the EbP fraction formed an outer shell for the rubber particles with the cores comprising the EsP alone, and this IPC, containing a lower E comonomer content than its counterpart, exhibited both better impact resistance and higher flexural modulus. These results clarify how the chain structure of EbP governs the phase morphology in IPC, which in turn impacts the properties of the composite material.

Although crystalline anode materials with long-range ordered lattice structure are in favor of facilitating the electron transfer,their structures are easily disrupted during long-term cycling due to the continuous embedding/de-embedding of lithium ions.In contrast,the amorphous materials have abundant defects and lithium ion storage sites,refl ecting a superior reaction kinetics and long-term cycling stability.Here,we synthesize an integrated hybrid anode by in-situ loading amorphous NiMo_(3)S_(13)nanosheets on nickel foam substrate.Benefi ting from the introduction of Ni^(2+)that amorphizes the molybdenumsulfur clusters,the assembled lithium ion battery based on the integrated NiMo_(3)S_(13)/nickel foam anode delivers a specifi c capacity up to 1659 mA·h·g^(−1)at a current density of 0.6 A·g^(−1)and exhibits superior rate/cycling performance.
