The incidence of frailty gradually increases with *** condition places a heavy burden on modern society,of which the aging population is *** is one of the most complicated clinical syndromes;thus,it is difficult to uncover its underlying *** stress(OS)is involved in frailty in multiple *** association between the gut microbiota(GM)and frailty was recently ***,we propose that OS is involved in the association between the GM and the occurrence of frailty *** imbalance between oxidation and antioxidants can eventually lead to frailty,and the GM probably participates in this process through the production of reactive oxygen *** the other hand,OS can disturb the *** dysbiosis consequently induces or exacerbates tissue damage,leading to the occurrence of frailty ***,we discuss the possibility of improving frailty by intervening in the vicious cycle between the imbalance of OS and dysbiosis.

A New Method of Identifying 3D Null Points in Solar Vector Magnetic Fields

Employing the Poincar6 index of isolated null-points in a vector field, we worked out a mathematical method of searching for 3D null-points in coronal magnetic fields. After introducing the relevant differential topology, we test the method by using the analytical model of Brown ＆ Priest. The location of nullpoint identified by our method coincides precisely with the analytical solution. Finally we apply the method to the 3D coronal magnetic fields reconstructed from an observed MDI magnetogram of a super-active region （NOAA 10488）. We find that the 3D null-point seems to be a key element in the magnetic topology associated with flare occurrence.

Sleep is regulated by two mechanisms:the homeostatic process and the circadian *** affects sleep and alertness by entraining the circadian clock,and acutely inducing sleep/alertness,in a manner mediated by intrinsically photosensitive retinal ganglion *** intrinsically photosensitive retinal ganglion cells are believed to be minimally sensitive to red light,which is widely used for illumination to reduce the photic disturbance to nocturnal animals during the dark ***,the appropriate intensity of the red light is *** the present study,we recorded electroencephalograms and electromyograms of freely moving mice to investigate the effects of red light emitted by light-emitting diodes at different intensities and for different durations on the sleep–wake behavior of *** light was used as a ***,red light exerted potent sleep-inducing effects and changed the sleep architecture in terms of the duration and number of sleep episodes,the stage transition,and the EEG power density when the intensity was 420 ***,we lowered the light intensity and demonstrated that red light at or below 10 lx did not affect sleep–wake *** light markedly induced sleep and disrupted sleep architecture even at an intensity as low as 10 *** findings highlight the importance of limiting the intensity of red light(⩽10 lx)to avoid optical influence in nocturnal behavioral experiments,particularly in the field of sleep and circadian research.

β-Nucleosides are fundamental building blocks of biological systems and are widely used as therapeuticagents for the treatment of cancer and viral infections, among others. In the last two years, nucleosideanalogues have been investigated with renewed urgency in the search for agents that are effective againstSARS-CoV-2, the cause of the ongoing global pandemic of COVID-19. This has resulted in an explosionof activities in the field of β-nucleoside synthesis. This review summarizes the historical perspective andthe recent advances in the stereoselective synthesis of β-nucleosides and their analogues. The syntheticstrategies to obtain β-nucleosides can be divided into three categories: (1) N-glycosylation;(2) intramolecular sugar ring formation;and (3) enzymatic transglycosylation.

AIM: To investigate the ocular development of patients who had unilateral congenital cataract(CC) combined with persistent fetal vasculature(PFV).METHODS: This cross-sectional, observational study included patients who had unilateral CC and PFV and those with isolated unilateral *** length(AL), keratometry, anterior chamber depth(ACD), lens thickness, and vitreous length were *** ocular biometric parameters of the affected eyes of patients with CC and PFV were compared with the fellow eyes and with the affected eyes of patients with isolated ***: A total of 110 patients were included and divided into 4 groups: group 1(18 patients with CC and PFV, 0.05).CONCLUSION: Compared with the fellow eyes, the ALs of the eyes with unilateral CC and PFV are shorter in patients younger than 24 mo and longer in those older than 24 mo;the keratometries of the eyes with unilateral CC and PFV are steeper in patients older than 24 mo and similar with those younger than 24 *** findings provide further understanding of ocular development in patients with both CC and PFV.

Oral squamous cell carcinoma （OSCC） has a high incidence of cervical micrometastases and sometimes metastasizes contralaterally because of the rich lymphatic intercommunications relative to submucosal plexus of oral cavity that freely communicate across the midline, and it can facilitate the spread of neoplastic cells to any area of the neck consequently. Clinical and histopathologic factors continue to provide predictive information to contralateral neck metastases （CLNM） in OSCC, which determine prophylactic and adjuvant treatments for an individual patient. This review describes the predictive value of clinical-histopathologic factors, which relate to primary tumor and cervical lymph nodes, and surgical dissection and adjuvant treatments. In addition, the indications for elective contralateral neck dissection and adjuvant radiotherapy （aRT） and strategies for follow-up are offered, which is strongly focused by clinicians to prevent later CLNM and poor prognosis subsequently.

Synaptic dysfunction is an important pathological hallmark and cause of Alzheimer's disease(AD).High-frequency stimulation(HFS)-induced long-term potentiation(LTP)has been widely used to study synaptic plasticity,with impaired LTP found to be associated with ***,the exact molecular mechanism underlying synaptic plasticity has yet to be completely *** genes regulating synaptic plasticity are altered in AD and contribute to disease onset also remains ***,we induced LTP in the hippocampal CA1 region of wildtype(WT)and AD model mice by administering HFS to the CA3 region and then studied transcriptome changes in the CA1 *** identified 89 genes that may participate in normal synaptic plasticity by screening HFS-induced differentially expressed genes(DEGs)in mice with normal LTP,and 43 genes that may contribute to synaptic dysfunction in AD by comparing HFS-induced DEGs in mice with normal LTP and AD mice with impaired *** further refined the 43 genes down to 14 by screening for genes with altered expression in pathological-stage AD mice without HFS *** them,we found that the expression of Pygm,which catabolizes glycogen,was also decreased in AD *** further demonstrated that down-regulation of PYGM in neurons impaired synaptic plasticity and cognition in WT mice,while its overexpression attenuated synaptic dysfunction and cognitive deficits in AD ***,we showed that PYGM directly regulated energy generation in *** study not only indicates that PYGM-mediated energy production in neurons plays an important role in synaptic function,but also provides a novel LTP-based strategy to systematically identify genes regulating synaptic plasticity under physiological and pathological conditions.

AIM: To study the quality of life of adult patients with intermittent exotropia(IXT) in China and analyze the factors affecting the quality of life in IXT ***: Total y 109 cases of normal eye(control group), 77 cases of IXT(IXT group) and 115 cases of strabismus control group(except IXT) were collected. The quality of life of the patients was assessed by Chinese version of adult strabismus patient’s quality of life scale(CAS-20). The differences of general characteristics, visual function and quality of life were analyzed, and the effects of individual factors and visual function on quality of life of patients with IXT were ***: The IXT group had a high proportion of patients with family history, low proportion of patients with amblyopia compared with strabismus control group. The proportion with normal near and far stereopsis of IXT group were lower than that of normal control group. The best corrected visual acuity of IXT group was higher than that of strabismus control group, but lower than the control group. In addition, the median strabismus degree in IXT group was higher than that in other strabismus control group. The median psychosocial scores and median visual function scores of the IXT group was lower than that of the normal control group, but not different from strabismus control group. Occupation status, course of disease, far stereopsis and near stereopsis significantly affected the quality of life in IXT ***: Adult IXT patients in China have a certain proportion of family history and lower quality of life, The main factors affecting the quality of life of IXT patients is stereopsis, course of disease and occupation status.
