Magnesium alloys in tumor treatment:Current research status, challenges and future prospects

Cancer is a major threat to human life worldwide. Traditional cancer treatments, such as chemotherapy and surgery, have major limitations and can cause irreversible damage to normal tissues while killing the cancer cells. Magnesium(Mg) alloys are widely reported novel potential biomedical materials with acceptable mechanical properties and good osteogenic and angiogenic properties. In this review, we summarize the Mg alloys for antitumor applications, including pure Mg and Mg alloys(Mg-Ag, Mg-Gd, Mg-Li-Zn, Mg-Ca-Sr-Zn, et al.) fabricated by casting and extruding, selective laser melting methods. Mg alloys can exhibit antitumor effect on bone tumor, breast cancer, and liver tumor,etal. What's more, after tumor tissue is eliminated, Mg alloys prevent tumor recurrence, fill tissue defects and promote tissue *** antitumor effects of Mg alloys are mainly due to their degradation products. Overall, Mg alloys show great potential in tumor treatments due to the dual function of antitumor and tissue regeneration.

Disastrous Persistent Extreme Rainfall Events of the 2022 Pre-Flood Season in South China:Causes and Subseasonal Predictions

Two persistent extreme rainfall events(PEREs) with record-breaking amounts of rainfall and long duration caused disastrous impact during the 2022 pre-flood season in South China. Atmospheric intraseasonal variability played a key role in triggering and maintaining both PEREs, but its major impact on each event was associated with different modes. For the first PERE(10-15 May;PERE1), the tropical and extratropical quasi-biweekly oscillations jointly contributed to the extreme rainfall intensity. In contrast, the long duration(6-21 June) of the heavy rainfall during the second PERE(PERE2) was closely related to prolonged convection and moisture transport anomalies induced mainly by the tropical 30-90-day variability. Subseasonal-to-seasonal predictions by the model of the ECMWF showed limited skill in relation to the rainfall intensity of PERE1 and PERE2 beyond 1–2 weeks. Further assessment suggested that the fidelity of the PERE predictions was linked to model skill in predicting the phase evolution and intensity of tropical and extratropical intraseasonal variabilities. Thus, efficient monitoring and accurate prediction of the various modes of atmospheric intraseasonal variability are fundamental to reducing the hazard associated with PEREs in South China.

Severe acute respiratory syndrome-associated coronavirus 2 is a major global health issue and is driving the need for new *** surface spike protein,which plays a central role in virus infection,is currently the target for vaccines and neutralizing *** emergence of novel variants with multiple mutations in the spike protein may reduce the effectiveness of neutralizing antibodies by altering the binding activity of the protein with angiotensin-converting enzyme 2(ACE2).To understand the impact of spike protein mutations on the binding interactions required for virus infection and the effectiveness of neutralizing monoclonal antibody(mAb)therapies,the binding activities of the original spike protein receptor binding domain(RBD)sequence and the reported spike protein variants were investigated using surface plasmon *** addition,the interactions of the ACE2 receptor,an antispike mAb(mAb1),a neutralizing mAb(mAb2),the original spike RBD sequence,and mutants D614G,N501Y,N439K,Y453F,and E484K were *** to the original RBD,the Y453F and N501Y mutants displayed a significant increase in ACE2 binding affinity,whereas D614G had a substantial reduction in binding *** mAb-RBD mutant proteins displayed a reduction in binding affinities relative to the original RBD,except for the E484K-mAb1 *** potential neutralizing capability of mAb1 and mAb2 was ***,mAb1 failed to inhibit the ACE2-RBD interaction while mAb2 inhibited the ACE2-RBD interactions for all RBD mutants,except mutant E484K,which only displayed partial blocking.

Optimal design theories of tuned mass dampers with nonlinear viscous damping

Optimal design theory for linear tuned mass dampers （TMD） has been thoroughly investigated, but is still under development for nonlinear TMDs. In this paper, optimization procedures in the time domain are proposed for design of a TMD with nonlinear viscous damping. A dynamic analysis of a structure implemented with a nonlinear TMD is conducted first. Optimum design parameters for the nonlinear TMD are searched using an optimization method to minimize the performance index. The feasibility of the proposed optimization method is illustrated numerically by using the Taipei 101 structure implemented with TMD. The sensitivity analysis shows that the performance index is less sensitive to the damping coefficient than to the frequency ratio. Time history analysis is conducted using the Taipei 101 structure implemented with different TMDs under wind excitation. For both linear and nonlinear TMDs, the comfort requirements for building occupants are satisfied as long as the TMD is properly designed. It was found that as the damping exponent increases, the relative displacement of the TMD decreases but the damping force increases.

研究目的:探讨碎裂QRS波对急性心肌梗死患者的短期预后评估的价值,及其对ST段抬高和非ST段抬高型心肌梗死(STEMI和NSTEMI)患者不同的预测价值。创新要点:证实了碎裂QRS波对急性心肌梗死尤其是ST段抬高型心肌梗死的短期预后价值,对早期再灌注治疗有指导意义。研究方法:通过对碎裂QRS波发生及持续时间的详细记录(见图1、2),评价出现碎裂QRS波的STEMI及NSTEMI患者住院期间发生恶性心律失常、泵功能衰竭及住院死亡的风险(见图3;表3–5),并观察早期经皮冠状动脉介入治疗(PCI)对预后的不同影响(见表6)。重要结论:1.急性心肌梗死(尤其是STEMI)患者心电图出现碎裂QRS波短期内易发生恶性心律失常、左心室功能不全及死亡;2.对出现碎裂QRS波的急性心肌梗死患者,早期PCI再灌注治疗可改善患者短期预后。

The influence of upstream slope on the local scour at drop structure

The drop structure will fail as a result of local scoring *** paper discusses the influence of a drop structures' upstream slope to local *** equations of the scour hole were developed by laboratory experiment,theoretical assumptions,and regression *** equations include the maximum scour depth and length during the scouring period,the maximum equilibrium scour depth and length,and the unit width scour *** four channel slopes(0%,2%,4%,and 6%) before the drop structure has been included in the analysis.A series of laboratory experiments were conducted to obtain 48 groups of experiments and 419 scour hole profiles during the scouring *** material used in the scour section is uniform non-cohesive and with a median diameter of d50 = 0.5 *** results have been used to develop empirical equations via regression analysis to determine the coefficients of theoretical *** high correlation coefficient indicates that the equations developed in this study are suitable for verifying the characteristics of a scour hole at drop structure in the sloped *** semi-empirical equation is more accurate than the empirical *** to a horizontal channel,a sloped channel tends to cause a greater equilibriummaximum scour length,shorter equilibrium maximum scour depth,and faster unit-wide scour rate.

Effective purification of oily wastewater using lignocellulosic biomass:A review

Due to the frequent occurrence of oil spills and the large-scale production of oily wastewater, the treatment of oily sewage has become an important issue for sustainable development. Recently, materials prepared from lignocellulosic biomass(LCB) for oil-water separation have been found to be effective due to their high separation efficiency, good recyclability, and superior sustainability. However, few reviews have focused on the advantages and limitations of LCB for sewage treatment. This review summarizes the performance of modified LCB in oily wastewater treatment, in terms of the advanced modification methods applied and the structural dimensions of LCB materials according to the principle of superwetting oil-water separation. Research on the preparation technologies, separation mechanisms, and treatment efficiency of different LCB materials are briefly summarized, along with the characteristics of different LCB material types for oily wastewater treatment. Finally, the future prospects and challenges faced in the development of LCB materials are discussed.

Adipocyte-macrophage crosstalk plays a critical role to regulate adipose tissue microenvironment and cause chronic inflammation in the pathogenesis of ***-29(IL-29),a member of type 3 interferon family,plays a role in host defenses against microbes,however,little is known about its role in metabolic *** explored the function of IL-29 in the pathogenesis of obesity-induced inflammation and insulin *** found that serum IL-29 level was significantly higher in obese ***-29 upregulated IL-1β,IL-8,and monocyte chemoattractant protein-1(MCP-1)expression and decreased glucose uptake and insulin sensitivity in human Simpson-Golabi-Behmel syndrome(SGBS)adipocytes through reducing glucose transporter 4(GLUT4)and AKT *** addition,IL-29 promoted monocyte/macrophage *** of IL-29 could reduce inflammatory cytokine production in macrophage-adipocyte coculture system,which mimic an obese *** vivo,IL-29 reduced insulin sensitivity and increased the number of peritoneal macrophages in high-fat diet(HFD)-induced obese ***-29 increased M1/M2 macrophage ratio and enhanced MCP-1 expression in adipose tissues of HFD ***,we have identified a critical role of IL-29 in obesity-induced inflammation and insulin resistance,and we conclude that IL-29 may be a novel candidate target for treating obesity and insulin resistance in patients with metabolic disorders.

Dimension and frequency of bar formation in a braided river

This paper presents flume and field observations of a bank-confined braided *** features,including plan form configuration,channel width,and main channel migration,were examined by a series of *** measurements of channel morphology,provided a basis to estimate the relationship between noncumulative frequency of bars and bar *** results from the Dajia River,located in Central Western Taiwan,were presented to provide a reference data set for comparing the laboratory and field *** results indicate that the relationship between bar length and width can be predicted by a simple best-fit power function relating to self-similarity *** Hurst index by Walsh and Hicks(2002) provides acceptable predictions of the bar length and width observed in the experiments and confirmed by the field *** and field results both show that large river width yields a uniform distribution of bar areas with the similar discharge,leading to a large value of exponent(ft) in the *** river width is confirmed to be a critical parameter in the main channel shift.A small increase in channel width likely increased rapidly the shift cycle.
