Background There is no appropriate tool to predict recombinant human growth hormone(rhGH)response before therapy initiation in short-stature children in late *** current study aimed to explore the associations between magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)stages of the knee growth plates and rhGH response in short-stature children in late *** In this prospective cohort study,short-stature children in late puberty were treated with rhGH and followed up for 6 *** proposed a novel knee MRI staging system according to the growth plate states of distal femurs or proximal tibias and divided the participants into three groups:unclosed growth plate group,marginally closed growth plate group,and nearly closed growth plate *** primary outcomes were height gain and growth velocity(GV),which were assessed three months *** Fifty participants were enrolled,including 23 boys and 27 *** and height gain after 6 months of rhGH therapy decreased successively in the three groups with an increased degree of growth plate fusion,especially when grouped by proximal tibias(GV_(1-3 mon)from 9.38 to 6.08 to 4.56 cm/year,GV_(4-6 mon)from 6.75 to 4.92 to 3.25 cm/year,and height gain from 4.03 to 2.75 to 1.95 cm,all P<0.001).Moreover,the MRI stages of growth plates independently served as a significant variable for GV and height gain after therapy,especially when grouped by proximal tibias(all P<0.01).Conclusion The MRI staging method is expected to be an effective tool for predicting rhGH response before therapy initiation in short-stature children in late puberty.

Research on Mediate Temperature Decomposition of High Nitrogen Austenite

The decomposed products from high nitrogen austenite aging at 225°C were investigated by TEM. It is found that the shape of decomposition products inside the austenite grains is not regular and not strictly oriented. Preferential nucleation of y-Fe4N at dislocations and grain boundaries has been observed. It also has been found that during the first stage of the high nitrogen austenite decomposition a large quantity of ultra-fine /-Fe4N precipitate inside the parent austenite, which has been thought to be the undecomposed region before. The ultimate products are composed of highly dispersed a-Fe and /-Fe4N, with both of them maintaining nanometer scale. The micro-hardness of them can be as high as 900HV.

BACKGROUND Patients with hypothalamic-pituitary disease have the feature of central obesity,insulin resistance, and dyslipidemia, and there is increased prevalence of liver dysfunction consistent with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD) in this population. The causes of hypopituitarism in the reported studies varied and combined pituitary hormone deficiency including central diabetes insipidus is much common in this population. This retrospective cross-sectional study was performed to analyze the clinical characteristics and related factors with NAFLD and cirrhosis in Chinese adult hypopituitary/panhypopituitary *** To analyze the clinical characteristics of and related risk factors for NAFLD in Chinese adult hypopituitary *** Adult Chinese patients with hypopituitarism and/or panhypopituitarism were enrolled at the Pituitary Center of Peking Union Medical College Hospitalbetween August 2012 and April 2018. According to abdominal ultrasonography,these patients were divided into an NAFLD(-) group and an NAFLD(+) group,and the latter was further divided into an NAFLD group and a cirrhotic *** data, such as patient characteristics, diagnosis, and treatment, were extracted from medical records, and statistical analysis was *** A total of 36 male and 14 female adult Chinese patients with hypopituitarism were included in this retrospective study; 43(87.0%) of these patients exhibited growth hormone(GH) deficiency, and 39(78.3%) had diabetes insipidus. A total of 27(54.0%) patients were diagnosed with NAFLD, while seven patients were cirrhotic. No significant differences were noted in serum GH or insulin-like growth factor 1 among patients with cirrhosis, subjects with NAFLD, and those without NAFLD. A new two-step variational model for multiplicative noise removal with applications to texture images

Multiplicative noise removal problems have attracted much attention in recent *** additive noise,multiplicative noise destroys almost all information of the original image,especially for texture *** by the TV-Stokes model,we propose a new two-step variational model to denoise the texture images corrupted by multiplicative noise with a good geometry explanation in this *** the first step,we convert the multiplicative denoising problem into an additive one by the logarithm transform and propagate the isophote directions in the tangential field *** the isophote directions are constructed,an image is restored to fit the constructed directions in the second *** existence and uniqueness of the solution to the variational problems are *** these two steps,we use the gradient descent method and construct finite difference schemes to solve the ***,the augmented Lagrangian method and the fast Fourier transform are adopted to accelerate the *** results show that the proposed model can remove the multiplicative noise efficiently and protect the texture well.

Background and purpose This study aimed to investigate the association of metabolic syndrome(MetS)with both intracranial atherosclerotic stenosis(ICAS)and imaging markers of cerebral small vessel disease(CSVD)in a community-based *** This study included 943 participants(aged 55.6±9.2 years,36.1%male)from the community-based Shunyi cohort *** was defined according to the joint interim criteria and quantified by the MetS severity *** was evaluated by brain magnetic resonance *** MRI markers of CSVD,including white matter hyperintensities(WMHs),lacunes,cerebral microbleeds(CMBs)and enlarged perivascular spaces(EPVS),were *** regression models were used to investigate the association of MetS severity Z-score with ICAS and these CSVD *** We found that risk of ICAS(OR=1.75,95%CI 1.39 to 2.21,p<0.001)increased consistently with MetS *** severity was significantly associated with higher risks of WMH volume(β=0.11,95%CI 0.01 to 0.20,p=0.02)and lacunes(OR=1.28,95%CI 1.03 to 1.59,p=0.03)but not the presence of CMBs(OR=0.93,95%CI 0.74 to 1.16,p=0.51)and PVS severity(EPVS in basal ganglia:OR=0.96,95%CI 0.84 to 1.09,p=0.51 and EPVS in white matter:OR=1.09,95%CI 0.96 to 1.23,p=0.21).Conclusions Our findings suggest that WMH and lacunes share risk factors with atherosclerosis of the cerebral artery,whereas the impact of glucose and lipid metabolic disorder to CMB or EPVS might be weak.

Effective utilization of dolomitic lead-zinc waste rock by replacing dolomite as flux in iron ore sintering process

With increasingly stringent environmental protection policies,cost-effective and value-added treatment of massive lead-zinc waste rock(LZWR)generated from the preconcentration process has attracted substantial attention.A type of dolomitic LZWR with 18 wt.%MgO,27 wt.%CaO,0.29 wt.%Zn and 1.43 wt.%S was used as a replacement flux in the iron ore sintering *** sinter pot tests were carried out based on an industrial ore *** results show that replacing 0%-60%of dolomite with LZWR does not adversely affect the sintering productivity,fuel consumption rate,and the quality of the sinter products,while the Zn and S elements contained in LZWR can be effectively removed with the residual Zn and S contents of the resultant sinter products being less than 0.02 and 0.055 wt.%,***,substituting LZWR for dolomite as a flux inevitably increases the SO_(2) concentration in the sintering flue gas due to its high sulfur *** the processing capacity of the sintering flue gas desulfurization system,the replacement ratio of dolomite can reach 40%,equal to LZWR consumption of 24.3 kg per ton of *** SO_(2) in sintering flue gas can be recovered to produce(NH_(4))_(2)SO_(4) or HSO_(4),while the volatilized Zn collected into the zinc-containing dust can be subsequently recycled by the rotary hearth furnace ***,it is technologically and economically feasible to use the LZWR as a replacement flux in the iron ore sintering process,providing a new way for the safe,large-scale and low-cost treatment of LZWR.
