Brazilian biosafety law and the new breeding technologies

Globally,the area of land cultivated with genetically modified(GM)crops has increased a thousand-fold over the last two *** this technology has become important for food production,the regulatory frameworks that underpin these outcomes are based on a list of requirements for a risk assessment that differ from country to *** recent years,policymakers have had the opportunity to learn from the controversies over transgenics to create effective regulatory milestones for emerging technologies,allowing them to reach their potential for a more sustainable agriculture,ensuring food *** Brazil,Law No.11.105 of 24 March 2005 established a framework with four main organizations responsible for risk assessment and ***,most of new breeding technologies did not exist at that time and were not considered in this ***2016,Normative Resolution No.16 of the National Biosafety Technical Commission(CTNBio)was established to address this gap based on the evaluation of the products obtained through these techniques(termed Innovative Precision Improvement Techniques in the resolution),in a case-by-case consultation ***,if the product is designated to be a GM,the developer will have to go through the biosafety requirements and will be approved only after CTNBio risk *** the product is designated not to be GM(for the purposes of the legislation),then it can be registered using the existing ***,152 GM products are commercially approved in *** 2018,CTNBio assessed the first consultation on commercial release of plants generated using the new breeding technologies and has subsequently approved six *** is expected that many institutions would be able to participate in Brazilian and world markets,developing and introducing new biotechnological solutions and products through a more sustainable approach and without facing public disapproval,a common issue for GM crops.

Background:Hemodialysis(HD) per se is a risk factor for *** the growing body of evidence on blood-flow restriction(BFR) exercise in HD patients,identification of possible risk factors related to the prothrombotic agent D-dimer is required for the safety and feasibility of this training *** aim of the present study was to identify risk factors associated with higher D-dimer levels and to determine the acute effect of resistance exercise(RE) with BFR on this ***:Two hundred and six HD patients volunteered for this study(all with a glomerular filtration rate of 70 years old),and HD ***,RE+BFR significantly increases D-dimer after 4 *** with borderline baseline D-dimer levels(400-490 ng/mL) displayed increased risk of elevating D-dimer over the normal range(≥500 ng/mL).Conclusion:These results identified factors associated with a heightened prothrombotic state and may assist in the screening process for HD patients who wish to undergo RE+BFR.D-dimer and/or other fibrinolysis factors should be assessed at baseline and throughout the protocol as a precautionary measure to maximize safety during RE+BFR.

The present study aimed to determine whether natural dehydrated feed (DNF) can replace dry extruded feed while preserving the required daily intake, nutrient digestibility and benefits for immunity and antioxidant response in cats. The animals were divided into two groups of seven animals each. One group received DNF, and the other consumed commercial extruded dry feed (DCF). The experiment lasted 45 days and we measured daily consumption and collected blood and feces samples. The animals in the DNF group showed greater digestibility of fiber and mineral matter than DCF. Cats in the DNF group had a higher volume of feces. DNF cats had lower leukocyte and granulocyte counts and cholesterol levels. Serum enzymatic antioxidant responses and non-enzymatic were higher in DNF cats. Cats in the DNF group showed lower serum acute phase proteins in addition to a tendency toward a higher concentration of transferrin than in the DCF group. Fecal Escherichia coli and total coliform counts of cats fed DNF were higher than DCF. We conclude that the daily consumption of cats is adequate. This feed had greater digestibility of fiber and mineral matter, in addition to an improvement in antioxidant and immunological responses.

Photovoltaic-based DC microgrid with partial shading and fault tolerance

Partial shading is a common problem that affects bus regulation in DC microgrids with several photovoltaic(PV) modules as energy sources, as a result of reduced solar irradiance reaching the *** problem can be mitigated by incorporating batteries, but if they are not included, appropriate control strategies must be used. This paper presents a new approach in a PV-based DC microgrid, which provides a high-quality bus voltage regulation in islanding mode, without being affected by partial shading or problems associated with PV module connection and disconnection. The solution proposed herein ensures a proper voltage regulation without being affected by problems such as failures in PV modules or mismatch between them. Besides, it can help to prevent PV partial shade stress by disconnecting the affected modules. A further advantage of the approach is the flexibility to connect more PV modules. The advantages of this approach were verified in a 200 W prototype.

Extracellular vesicles(EVs)are nanometric particles that enclose cell-derived bioactive molecules in a lipid bilayer and serve as intercellular communication ***,in various biological contexts,EVs are reported to engage in immune modulation,senescence,and cell proliferation and ***,EVs could be key elements for potential off-the-shelf cell-free *** has been studied regarding EVs derived from human pluripotent stem cells(hPSC-EVs),even though hPSCs offer good opportunities for induction of tissue regeneration and unlimited proliferative *** this review article,we provide an overview of studies using hPSC-EVs,focusing on identifying the conditions in which the cells are cultivated for the isolation of EVs,how they are characterized,and applications already *** topics reported in this article highlight the incipient status of the studies in the field and the significance of hPSC-EVs’prospective applications as PSC-derived cell-free therapy products.

Lichens are symbiotic organisms that comprise a fungus and a photosynthetic partner wich are recognized as a good indicator of climate ***,our understanding of how aridity affects the diversity of saxicolous lichens in drylands is still *** evaluate the relationship between saxicolous lichen diversity and aridity in a central México dryland,a geographical transect was established of 100 km to build an aridity gradient in the semiarid zone of the State of Querétaro,Mexico,comprising ten sampling sites with a 10 km *** richness,abundance and diversity of soil lichen species were recorded using two sampling methods:the quadrat-intercept and the line-intercept method,to compare their performance in assessing soil lichen diversity in *** number of species and Shannon diversity of saxicolous lichens were higher at intermediate values of the aridity index(AI=0.10-0.34).Quadrat intercept and point intercept methods gave quite similar results,which means that the selected method does not influence the results in a significant *** study confirms the role of saxicolous lichens as climate change indicators and reveals the importance of the sampling method selection in the evaluation of different parameters of soil lichen diversity in drylands.

A perspective on potassic and ultrapotassic rocks:Constraints on the Paleoproterozoic late to post-collisional event in the São Francisco paleocontinent

The late-to post-collisional stage in orogenic systems is characterized by the coeval existence of bimodal potassic to ultrapotassic magmatic activity related to partial melting of an enriched lithospheric mantle together with crustal derived *** this paper,we present new whole rock geochemical analyses combined with zircon and titanite U–Pb and zircon Hf isotopic data from potassic to ultrapotassic rocks from six plutons that occur within the Archean Itacambira-Monte Azul block(BIMA),to discuss their petrogenesis and the tectonic implications for the São Francisco *** new U–Pb ages range from ca.2.06 Ga to 1.98 Ga and reveal long-lasting potassic magmatism within the BIMA,which is within the late-to-post-collisional stage of the São Francisco paleocontinent *** ultrapotassic rocks are compatible with a fluid-related metasomatized mantle source enriched by previous subduction events,whereas the potassic rocks are bimodal and have a transitional shoshonitic to A-type *** rocks have a hybrid nature,possible related to the mixing between the mafic potassic/ultrapotassic rocks and high temperature crustal melts of the Archean continental *** results also show an increase of within-plate signature towards the younger potassic *** participation of an important Archean crustal component in the genesis of these rocks is highlighted by the common and occasionally abundant occurrence of Archean inherited *** Hf isotopic record shows that most of the zircon inheritance has dominantly subchondriticεHf(t)values,which fits a crustal reworking derivation from a similar Eo-to Paleoarchean precursor ***,the presence of juvenile 2.36 Ga zircon inheritance in an ultrapotassic sample reveal the existence of a hidden reservoir that is somewhat similar to the described for the Mineiro Belt in southern São Francisco paleocontinent.

The southern portion of the Sao Francisco Palaeocontinent in Brazil is denoted by Archean nuclei and Paleoproterozoic magmatic arcs that were amalgamated during Siderian to Orosirian orogenic processes(ca.2.4-2.1 Ga).New isotopic U-Pb in zircon and Sm-Nd whole rock combined with major and trace element composition analyses constrain the crystallization history of the Neoarchean Piedade block(at ca.2.6 Ga)and the Paleoproterozoic Mantiqueira Complex(ca.2.1-1.9 Ga).These therefore display quite different magmatic histories prior to their amalgamation at ca.2.05 ***-Nd and Rb-Sr isotopes imply a mixed mantle-crustal origin for the samples in both units.A complete Palaeoproterozoic orogenic cycle,from subduction to collision and collapse,is recorded in the Piedade Block and the Mantiqueira *** to Orosirian subduction processes(ca.2.2-2.1 Ga)led to the generation of coeval(ca.2.16 Ga)TTG suites and sanukitoids,followed by late(2.10-2.02 Ga)high-K granitoids that mark the collisional *** collisional accretion of the Mantiqueira Complex against the Piedade Block at 2.08-2.04 Ga is also recorded by granulite facies metamorphism in the latter terrane,along the Ponte Nova suture *** collisional stage was closely followed by the emplacement of within-plate tholeiites at ca.2.04 Ga and by alkaline rocks(syenites and enriched basic rocks)at ca.1.98 Ga,marking the transition to an extensional tectonic *** discovery of two episodes of TTG and sanukitoid magmatism,one during the Neoarchean in the Piedade Complex and another during the Rhyacian in the Mantiqueira Complex,indicates that the onset of subduction-related melting of metasomatized mantle was not restricted to Neoarchean times,as generally believed,but persisted much later into the Paleoproterozoic.

Burning down on semi-solid by-product from distillation of cellulosic ethanol to power upstream steps of its manufacturing is ***,this feedstock is homogenous in size and shape,hygroscopic and poorly *** disadvantages make its re-use in the industrial plant very *** of this agro-residue into high-performance blends for heating and power is,accordingly,the scientific point of this *** pilot-scale manufacturing of composite pellets consisted of systematically pressing the residue with sugarcane bagasse at the mass ratios of 1:4,2:4,and 3:4 on an automatic pelletizer machine at 200 MPa and 125℃.The process of compaction lasted for 90 *** and energy density,both increased significantly,from 95.85%to 99.55%and from 27.95 GJ m^(−3) to 32.20 GJ m^(−3) with blending at 3:***,the semi-solid by-product considerably improved the feeding,thus,enabling the layers of particles to go smoothly through the channel-forming die of the ***,blends became stiffer and denser than pellets purely consisting of sugarcane *** evidence of the process of pelleting capable of highly valorizing the semi-solid by-product from distillation of cellulosic bioethanol into mechanically stable and energetically effective hybrid fuel grade biosolids *** major findings of this paper should be of great relevance to ensure safe and effective transportation and storage of biomass in indoor facili-ties where the risk for the generation of dust and fines and the subsequent off-gassing and self-firing is ***,pelletization may optimize the co-generation of heat and steam at the large-scale bioethanol station.
