AIM:To survey irritable bowel syndrome(IBS) using Rome Ⅲ criteria among Malays from the north-eastern region of Peninsular ***:A previously validated Malay language Rome Ⅲ IBS diagnostic questionnaire was used in the current study.A prospective sample of 232 Malay subjects(80% power) was initially *** a stratified random sampling strategy,a total of 221 Malay subjects(112 subjects in a "full time job" and 109 subjects in "no full time job") were *** were visitors(friends and relatives) within the hospital compound and were representative of the local *** flags and psychosocial alarm symptoms were also assessed in the current study using previously translated and validated *** with IBS were sub-typed into constipation-predominant,diarrhea-predominant,mixed type and *** and multivariable analyses were used to test for association between socioeconomic factors and presence of red flags and psychosocial alarm features among the Malays with ***:IBS was present in 10.9%(24/221),red flags in 22.2%(49/221) and psychosocial alarm features in 9.0%(20/221).Red flags were more commonly reported in subjects with IBS(83.3%) than psychosocial alarm features(20.8%,P < 0.001).Subjects with IBS were older(mean age 41.4 years vs 36.9 years,P = 0.08),but no difference in gender was noted(P = 0.4).Using univariable analysis,IBS was significantly associated with a tertiary education,high individual income above RM1000,married status,exsmoker and the presence of red flags(all P < 0.05).In multiple logistic regression analysis,only the presence of red flags was significantly associated with IBS(odds ratio:0.02,95%CI:0.004-0.1,P < 0.001).The commonest IBS sub-type was mixed type(58.3%),followed by constipation-predominant(20.8%),diarrheapredominant(16.7%) and un-subtyped(4.2%).Four of 13 Malay females(30.8%) with IBS also had menstrual *** subjects with IBS had at least one red flag(70.8%)

The current therapeutic regimen to combat chronic hepatitis C is not optimal due to substantial side effects and the failure of a significant proportion of patients to achieve a sustained virological response. Recently developed direct-acting antivirals targeting hepatitis C virus (HCV) enzymes reportedly increase the virologic response to therapy but may lead to a selection of drug-resistant variants. Besides direct-acting antivirals, another promising class of HCV drugs in development include host targeting agents that are responsible for interfering with the host factors crucial for the viral life cycle. A family of host proteins known as DEAD-box RNA helicases, characterized by nine conserved motifs, is known to play an important role in RNA metabolism. Several members of this family such as DDX3, DDX5 and DDX6 have been shown to play a role in HCV replication and this review will summarize our current knowledge on their interaction with HCV. As chronic hepatitis C is one of the leading causes of hepatocellular carcinoma, the involvement of DEAD-box RNA helicases in the development of HCC will also be highlighted. Continuing research on the interaction of host DEAD-box proteins with HCV and the contribution to viral replication and pathogenesis could be the panacea for the development of novel therapeutics against HCV.

AIM To examine whether nuclear factor kappa B(NF-κB) activity regulates LIN28 B expression and their roles in leukemia stem cell(LSC)-like properties. METHODS We used pharmacological inhibitor and cell viability assays to examine the relation between NF-κB and LIN28 B. Western blot and q RT-PCR was employed to determine their protein and m RNA levels. Luciferase reporter was constructed and applied to explore the transcriptional regulation of LIN28 B. We manipulated LIN28 B level in acute myeloid leukemia(AML) cells and investigated LSC-like properties with colony forming and serial replating assays. RESULTS This study revealed the relationship between NF-κB and LIN28 B in AML cells through drug inhibition and overexpression experiments. Notably,inhibition of NF-κB by pharmacological inhibitors reduced LIN28 B expression and decreased cell proliferation. We demonstrated that NF-κB binds to the-819 to-811 region of LIN28 B promoter,and transcriptionally regulates LIN28 B expression. LIN28 B protein was significantly elevated in NFκB1 transfected cells compared to vector control. Importantly,ectopic expression of LIN28 B partially rescued the self-renewal capacity impaired by pharmacological inhibition of NF-κB activity. CONCLUSION These results uncover a regulatory signaling,NF-κB/LIN28 B,which plays a pivotal role in leukemia stem cell-like properties and it could serve as a promising intervening target for effective treatment of AML disease.

针对传统的老年人智能监护系统中运动历史图像(motion history image, MHI)动作识别方法仅考虑时间序列特征而难以表示相机光轴方向(即深度方向)上的运动问题,基于传统MHI进行改进,提出一种三重运动表现图像(triplet motion representation images, TMRI)识别方法.该方法首先通过跟踪移动物体表面的特征点计算光流和检测消失点得到动作的深度信息,然后创建包含与传统MHI相同的时间序列图像、表现前景出现频率的重叠度图像以及表现相机光轴方向运动信息的深度图像3种类型的运动历史图像来描述目标对象的动作,最后利用各图像的特征对动作进行识别.结果表明基于MHI的三重运动表现图像方法的平均动作识别准确率可达84.35%,明显高于传统MHI方法的识别准确率(55.43%).

Objective:Despite being the third commonest cancer in Singaporean men,there is a dearth of basic data on the detection rate of prostate cancer and post-procedure complication rates locally using systematic 12-core *** objective is to evaluate prostate cancer detection rates using 12-core prostate biopsy based on serum prostate specific antigen(PSA)levels and digital rectal examination(DRE)findings in Singaporean men presenting to a single tertiary *** secondary objective is to evaluate the complication rates of transrectal prostate ***:We retrospectively examined 804 men who underwent first transrectal-ultrasound(TRUS)guided 12-core prostate biopsies from January 2012 to April *** biopsies were performed on men presenting to a tertiary institution when their PSA levels were4.0 ng/mL and/or when they had suspicious DRE ***:Overall prostate cancer detection rate was 35.1%.Regardless of DRE findings,patients were divided into four subgroups based on their serum PSA levels:0e3.99 ng/mL,4.00 e9.99 ng/mL,10.00e19.99 ng/mL and20.00 ng/mL and their detection rates were 9.5%,20.9%,38.4% and 72.3%,*** detection rate of cancer based on suspicious DRE findings alone was 59.2% compared to 36.5% based on serum PSA cut-off of 4.0 ng/mL *** post-biopsy admission rate for sepsis was 1.5%.Conclusion:In conclusion,using contemporary 12-core biopsy methods,the local prostate cancer detection rate based on serum PSA and DRE findings has increased over the past decade presumably due to multiple genetic and environmental ***-biopsy sepsis remains an important complication worldwide.

A 3D Matching Method for Organic Training Samples Alignment Based on Surface Curvature Distribution

The fundamental step to get a Statistical Shape Model (SSM) is to align all the training samples to the same spatial modality. In this paper, we propose a new 3D alignment method for organic training samples matching, whose modalities are orientable and surface figures could be recognized. It is a feature based alignment method which matches two models depending on the distribution of surface curvature. According to the affine transformation on 2D Gaussian map, the distances between the corresponding parts on surface could be minimized. We applied our proposed method on 5 cases left lung training samples alignment and 4 cases liver training samples alignment. The experiment results were performed on the left lung training samples and the liver training samples. The availability of proposed method was confirmed.

Despite the recent success of GeSn infrared lasers,the high lasing threshold currently limits their integration into practical *** structural defects in epitaxial GeSn layers have been identified as one of the major bottlenecks towards low-threshold GeSn lasers,the effect of defects on the lasing threshold has not been well studied ***,we experimentally demonstrate that the reduced defect density in a GeSn-on-insulator substrate improves the lasing threshold *** first present a method of obtaining high-quality GeSn-oninsulator layers using low-temperature direct bonding and chemical–mechanical ***-temperature photoluminescence measurements reveal that the reduced defect density in GeSn-on-insulator leads to enhanced spontaneous emission and a reduced lasing threshold by0 times andtimes,*** result presents a new path towards pushing the performance of GeSn lasers to the limit.
