Verification of Depth Adjustment Factor in Eurocode 5 for Tropical Hardwood Timbers

The depth adjustment factor for bending strength stated in Eurocode 5(EC5)is only applicable to timbers having a characteristic density below 700 kg/m^(3).However,most malaysian timbers are hardwood,some with a characteristic density reaching above 700 kg/m^(3).Therefore,the objective of this study was to examine whether the depth adjustment factor stipulated in EC5 is valid for malaysian hardwood *** timber species were selected for this study,namely Kapur(Dryobalanops ***.),Kempas(Koompassia maingay ex Benth.),Keruing(Dipterocarpus ***.),Light red meranti(Shorea *** ***.),Geronggang(Cratoxylum Blume)and Balau(Shorea *** ***.).The determination of bending strength and characteristic density was conducted according to BS EN 408:2010 and BS EN 384:2016,respectively.A graph for mean bending strength vs.(150/h)was plotted for each timber *** power function was selected to analyze the relationship between the two *** power of the regression equations varied depending on the characteristic density of the timber *** species with a characteristic density below 700 kg/m^(3),such as Kapur,Keruing,and Light red meranti,the power was between 0.16 to *** contrast,for species having a characteristic density above 700 kg/m^(3),namely Kempas and Balau,the power was higher at 0.23 and 0.24,*** was an exception to this *** values are close to the depth adjustment factor given in EC5,which is *** on the results,it can be suggested that the adjustment factor of 0.2 is also applicable to malaysian hardwood timbers with a characteristic density above 700 kg/m^(3).

Effects of intermittent sprint and plyometric training on endurance running performance

Purpose:The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of intermittent sprint training and plyometric training on endurance running ***:Fourteen moderately trained male endurance runners were allocated into either the intermittent sprint training group(n = 7)or the plyometric training group(n = 7).The preliminary tests required subjects to perform a treadmill graded exercise test,a countermovement jump test for peak power measurement,and a 10-km time *** included 12 sessions of either intermittent sprint or plyometric training carried out twice per *** completion of the intervention,post-tests were ***:Both groups showed significant reduction in weekly training mileage from pre-intervention during the intervention *** were significant improvements in the 10-km time trial performance and peak *** was also significant improvement in relative peak power for both *** 10-km time trial performance and relative peak power showed a moderate inverse ***:These findings showed that both intermittent sprint and plyometric training resulted in improved 10-km running performance despite reduction in training *** improvement in running performance was accompanied by an improvement in peak power and showed an inverse relationship with relative peak power.

Development of a vision-based ground target detection and tracking system for a small unmanned helicopter

It is undoubted that the latest trend in the unmanned aerial vehicles （UAVs） community is towards vision-based unmanned small-scale helicopter, utilizing the maneuvering capabilities of the helicopter and the rich information of visual sensors, in order to arrive at a versatile platform for a variety of applications such as navigation, surveillance, tracking, etc. In this paper, we present the development of a vision-based ground target detection and tracking system for a small UAV helicopter. more specifically, we propose a real-time vision algorithm, based on moment invariants and two-stage pattern recognition, to achieve automatic ground target detection. In the proposed algorithm, the key geometry features of the target are extracted to detect and identify the target. Simultaneously, a Kalman filter is used to estimate and predict the position of the target, referred to as dynamic features, based on its motion model. These dynamic features are then combined with geometry features to identify the target in the second-stage of pattern recognition, when geometry features of the target change significantly due to noise and disturbance in the environment. Once the target is identified, an automatic control scheme is utilized to control the pan/tilt visual mechanism mounted on the helicopter such that the identified target is to be tracked at the center of the captured images. Experimental results based on images captured by the small-scale unmanned helicopter, SheLion, in actual flight tests demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of the overall system.

Design and implementation of a leader-follower cooperative control system for unmanned helicopters

In this paper, we present a full scheme for the cooperative control of multiple unmanned aerial vehicle （UAV） helicopters. We adopt the leader-follower pattern to maintain a fixed geometrical formation while navigating the UAVs following certain trajectories. more specifically, the leader is commanded to fly on some predefined trajectories, and each follower is controlled to maintain its position in formation using the measurement of its inertial position and the information of the leader position and velocity, obtained through a wireless modem. more specifications are made for multiple UAV formation flight. In order to avoid possible collisions of UAV helicopters in the actual formation flight test, a collision avoidance scheme based on some predefined alert zones and protected zones is employed. Simulations and experimental results are presented to verify our design.

Effects of Two Isometric Strength Training methods on Jump and Sprint Performances:A Randomized Controlled Trial

Purpose Isometric strength training (IST) with rapid non-sustained contraction (RIST) is effective in improving the ability to generate force ***,the neuromuscular adaptation of IST with sustained contraction (SIST) and RIST is not ***,the aim of the study was to compare the neuromuscular adaptations of RIST with *** Thirty-three national floorball players (23.9 ± 3.1 years old;1.69± 0.08 m;64.6± 11.1 kg) were recruited for this ***-and post-test included countermovement jump (CmJ),30-m sprint (TT30),isometric squat at 90° (ISqT90) and 120° (ISqT120) knee *** were randomly assigned to either control (Con) (n =9),RIST (n =12) or SIST (n =12)group and performed 12 sessions of intervention *** groups performed the same sets of exercises,but RIST and SIST had to perform ISqT with and without sustained contraction,*** Time × group effect for CmJ height (P =0.01,η2p=0.25),peak force (PF) (P =0.03,η2p =0.22) and rate of force development (RFD) (P =0.02,η2p =0.22) obtained from ISqT 120 were noted.A main effect for time was observed in CmJ height,PF obtained from ISqT90 and ISqT120,and RFD obtained from ISqT90 (P mprovement in TT30 (P =0.043,d =3.00),ISqT90 PF (P =0.034,d =3.12),ISqT 120 PF (P =0.003,d =4.54) and ISqT120 RFD (P=0.033,d=1.36) in the SIST than the Con *** SIST was more effective in improving strength and dynamic performance as compared to RIST,making it a viable training method to enhance dynamic performances.

Comparison of Loaded Countermovement Jump with Different Variable Resistance Intensities on Inducing Post-Activation Potentiation

Purpose The aim of the study was to establish the optimum variable resistance(VR)intensity for loaded countermovement jump(LCmJ)to induce post-activation potentiation(PAP).methods Eleven male athletes(age 23±2.3 years,height 1.77±0.05 m,body mass 73.7±9.0 kg)attended one familiariza-tion and four testing *** performed their own pre-competition warm up before performing two countermove-ment jumps(CmJ)for baseline ***,they performed 2×3 unloaded(UCmJ)or loaded CmJ(LCmJ)with one of the three VR intensities,Orange(6.7±0.6 kg),Red(14.0±0.9 kg)and Blue(24.0±1.4 kg),in random order,before performing two more CmJ for post-test *** testing session was separated by at least 48 *** There was significant increase in jump height in all conditions(Pmp height between conditions(P>0.05).There were small to moderate effect when comparing Orange and the other *** force and velocity increased in Red(Pmp height was significantly correlated to change in peak velocity(r=0.46,P=0.002)and peak power(r=0.46,P=0.002).Conclusion The findings of the study showed that UCmJ and LCmJ were effective in improving jump height acutely,and an intensity level of about 10%body weight contributed by VR seems to be the optimum resistance level.

Vitamin D Status of Elite Athletes in Singapore and Its Associations With muscle Function and Bone Health

Purpose The primary aim of this study is to determine the prevalence of vitamin D deficiency and insufficiency among Asian athletes participating in indoor and outdoor sports in equatorial *** aims are to examine the relationship between vitamin D status and skeletal muscle strength and performance,and bone *** Serum 25(OH)D concentrations were determined in 95 indoor and outdoor athletes across various *** muscle strength and performance were assessed using the isometric mid-thigh pull(ImTP),drop jump test and 30 m sprint *** mineral Density(BmD)was measured using Dual-energy X-ray Absorptiometry(DXA).Results mean serum 25(OH)D concentrations were 28.6±8.9 ng/mL among indoor,and 39.2±13.2 ng/mL among outdoor sport athletes respectively(Pmore indoor sport athletes(62%)had insufficient vitamin D compared to outdoor sport athletes(30%)(Pmarkers of muscle function were not significantly different between *** and outdoor sport athletes did not have significantly different BmDs although none of the athletes studied presented with poor *** who were deficient in vitamin D had significantly lower BmD compared to athletes with sufficient vitamin D(P=0.01).Conclusion Forty-seven percent of Singaporean athletes studied had suboptimal vitamin D *** monitoring of vitamin D levels among indoor sport athletes should be in place to ensure optimal health and performance.

Gastric cancer and liver cancer are among the most common malignancies and the leading causes of death worldwide,due to late detection and high recurrence ***,these cancers have a heavy socioeconomic burden,for which a full understanding of their pathophysiological features is warranted to search for promising biomarkers and therapeutic *** (OPN) is overexpressed in most patients with gastric and liver *** the past decade,emerging evidence has revealed a correlation of OPN level and clinicopathological features and prognosis in gastric and liver cancers,indicating its potential as an independent prognostic indicator in such *** studies have verified the potential of OPN knockdown as a therapeutic approach in vitro and in vivo .Furthermore,OPN mediates multifaceted roles in the interaction between cancer cells and the tumor microenvironment,in which many details need further *** signaling results in various functions,including prevention of apoptosis,modulation of angiogenesis,malfunction of tumor-associated macrophages,degradation of extracellular matrix,activation of phosphoinositide 3-kinase-Akt and nuclear factor-κB pathways,which lead to tumor formation and progression,particularly in gastric and liver *** editorial aims to review recent findings on alteration in OPN expression and its clinicopathological associations with tumor progression,its potential as a therapeutic target,and putative mechanisms in gastric and liver *** understanding of the implications of OPN in tumorigenesis might facilitate development of therapeutic regimens to benefit patients with these deadly malignancies.

We examine the notion of state-space and output symmetries for nonlinear control systems with exogenous dynamics. Reduction by symmetry of output feedback regulation problems for such systems yields again a regulation problem on the orbit space, and the two are shown to be equivalent. Solving the reduced problem can be simpler, as we show by applying a known result.

The title compound, [N-(2-pyridylmethyl)-(L)-alanine]Co(III) thiocyanate (1) was obtained from the reaction of Co(OOCH3)2·H2O with the tridentate reduced Schiff base ligand, N-(2-pyridylmethyl)-(L)-alanine (L) and NH4SCN and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, UV-visible, TGA and single- crystal X-ray diffraction. Structural and spectroscopic analyses reveal [Co(L)2)]SCN to be monomeric with Cobalt(III) adopting a pseudo-octahedral geometry, coordinating to two reduce Schiff base ligands. In the crystal lattice, the thiocyanate anion forms an intermolecular SCN···HNamine hydrogen bond, while adjacent monomers are linked by intermolecular Ocarboxyl···HNamine···H-bonds to form a supramolecular network. This work is therefore undertaken in an attempt to construct coordination framework structures of varying properties using the mixed-ligand strategy involving reduced Schiff bases and the thiocyanate ion.
