The sensitivity of an experiment to detect the Majorana neutrino mass via neutrinoless double-beta decay(0νββ) strongly depends on the rate of background events that can mimic this decay. One major source of this background is the radioactive emissions from the laboratory environment. In our study, we focused on assessing the background contributions from environmental gamma rays, neutrons, and underground muons to the Jinping bolometric demonstration experiment. This experiment uses an array of lithium molybdate crystal bolometers to probe the potential 0νββ decay of the100Mo isotope at the China Jinping Underground Laboratory. We also evaluated the shielding effectiveness of the experimental setup through an attenuation study. Our simulations indicate that the combined background from environmental gamma rays, neutrons, and muons in the relevant100Mo 0νββ Q-value region can be reduced to approximately 0.003 cts/kg/keV/yr.

We studied experimental background reconstruction methods for the measurement of the D-D correlation using PYTHIA *** like-sign(LS)and side-band(SB)background methods,which are widely used in the experimental measurements of single D-meson production yields,were deployed for correlation *** was found that the LS method,which describes the combinatorial background of single D^(0) meson yields,fails to reproduce the correlated background in the D^(0)-D^(0) correlation measurement,while the SB background method yields a good description of the background for both single D^(0) yields and the correlated background of the D^(0)-D^(0) correlation *** further examined the validity of the correlation methods under different signal-to-background ratios,providing direct references for experimental measurements.

In nuclear collisions at RHIC energies, an excess of Ω hyperons over ■ is observed, indicating that Ω has a net baryon number despite s and s quarks being produced in pairs. The baryon number in Ω may have been transported from the incident nuclei and/or produced in the baryon-pair production of Ω with other types of anti-hyperons such as Ξ. To investigate these two scenarios, we propose to measure the correlations between Ω and K and between Ω and anti-hyperons. We use two versions, the default and string-melting, of a multiphase transport(AMPT) model to illustrate the method for measuring the correlation and to demonstrate the general shape of the correlation. We present the Ω-hadron correlations from simulated Au+Au collisions at ■ =7.7 and 14.6 Ge V and discuss the dependence on the collision energy and on the hadronization scheme in these two AMPT versions. These correlations can be used to explore the mechanism of baryon number transport and the effects of baryon number and strangeness conservation on nuclear collisions.

Nucleus-nucleus collisions at RHIC produce high temperature and high energy density matter which exhibits partonic degrees of freedom. We will discuss measurements of nuclear modification factors for light hadrons and non-photonic electrons from heavy quark decays, which reflect the flavor dependence of energy loss of high momentum partons traversing the dense QCTD medium. The hadronization of bulk partonic matter exhibits collectivity in effective partonic degrees of freedom. Nuclear collisions at RHIC provide an intriguing environment, where many constituent quark ingredients are readily available for possible formation of exotic particles through quark coalescences or recombinations.

It is well known that in strong interaction the parity symmetry(left-right mirror symmetry)is ***,Quantum ChromoDynamics(QCD),the fundamental quantum field theory of strong interaction,permits in its Lagrange terms which,while conserving parity on average,allow for local violations of *** has been proposed that heavy ion collisions offer a unique opportunity to detect these parity-violating fluctuations in strong *** these collisions,heavy nuclei like gold and lead are colliding with each other at a speed near the speed of the light,creating drops of quark-gluon plasma(QGP).In QGP topological domains of unbalanced quark chirality(unequal number of left-handed and right-handed quarks)may be created due to collective gluon excitations.

Cobalamin(Cbl)-dependent radical S-adenosyl-L-methionine(SAM) proteins constitute the largest collection of the radical SAM superfamily that has hundreds of thousands of individual members. Many of these proteins are involved in the biosynthesis of pharmaceutically important natural products to catalyze chemically demanding reactions. In the biosynthetic pathway of chuangxinmycin(CXM), a unique indole alkaloid antibiotic with potent anti-infective activity, functionalization of the characteristic thiopyrano[4,3,2-cd]indole scaffold by regio-and stereoselective C3-methylation is believed to rely on a Cbl-dependent radical process, which, however, remained to be reconstituted biochemically. We here report the dissection of this enzymatic process, which requires the incorporation of Cxm8, a Cbl-dependent radical SAM protein, with Cxm9, a DUF5825family protein that shares no homology to any proteins of known functions. Cxm8 and Cxm9 function together by forming an unexpected heterodimeric complex that selectively catalyzes C3-methylation of the tricyclic indole-S-hetero ring system in a successive manner, achieving CXM and a recently identified, C3-dimethylated congener. Detailed biochemical characterization,isotope labeling, structural simulation and bioinformatics analysis rationalized the catalysis of the Cxm8/Cxm9 complex and particularly the necessity of the DUF5825 protein for C3-methylase activity. This is the first example that a Cbl-dependent protein acts with a partner to exhibit radical SAM activity.

Recently, the analog matrix computing (AMC) concept has been proposed for fast, efficient matrix operations, by configuring global feedback loops with crosspoint resistive memory arrays and operational amplifiers (OAs). The implementation of a general real-valued matrix (containing both positive and negative elements) is enabled by using a set of analog inverters,which, however, is considered inefficient regarding circuit compactness, power consumption, and temporal response. Here, with the assistance of the conductance compensation (CC) strategy to take full advantage of the inherent differential inputs of OAs,new AMC circuits without analog inverters are designed. Such a design saves the area occupation and power dissipation of analog inverters, and thus turns to be smaller and lower-power. Simulation results reveal that the new circuit also shows a faster response towards the steady state, thanks to the reduction of poles in the circuit, which, again, is contributed by the elimination of analog inverters. Along with all of these benefits, extensive simulations demonstrate that the CC-AMC circuits do not compromise the computing performance in terms of relative error caused by various non-ideal factors in the circuit.
