Association of serotonin transporter gene polymorphisms and major depressive disorder in Chinese Han population

BACKGROUND： Serotonin transporter （5-HTT） polymorphisms comprise 5-HTT gene-linked polymorphism region （5-HTTLPR） and variable number of tandem repeats （VNTR）. Studies have revealed an association between 5-HTT polymorphism and major depressive disorder, which suggests that the ＂S＂ allele of 5-HTTLPR and Stin2.9 of 5-HTTVNTR are associated with major depressive disorder. However, there are a number of studies that do not support the 5-HTT polymorphism effect in major depressive disorder. OBJECTIVE： To study the relationship between 5-HTT gene polymorphism and major depressive disorder in Chinese Han population. DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING： Case-controlled study of 5-HTT gene polymorphism. The experiment was performed at the Central Laboratory, Third Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, China from march 2005 to January 2006. PARTICIPANTS： A total of 99 depressive patients of Chinese Han nationality were recruited for this study. All patients met DSM-IV diagnostic criteria for major depressive disorder and had a total score of Hamilton Depression Scale （24 items） ≥21 points. In addition, 101 healthy subjects, matched for age and gender, served as the control group. METHODS： Venous blood was collected from all subjects. 5-HTT genotypes and alleles were determined by polymerase chain reaction. Consistent with the Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium, the association between 5-HTT gene polymorphism and major depressive disorder were analyzed by Chi-square test. maIN OUTCOME MEASURES： 5-HTTLPR and 5-HTTVNTR genotypes and allele frequencies were measured. RESULTS： No significant differences in 5-HTTLPR genotypes and allele frequencies were determined between patients and controls （P 〉 0.05）. However, significant differences in 5-HTTVNTR genotypes and allele frequencies were detected （P 〈 0.01 ）. The Stin2.10 allele and 10/10 genotype associated with major depressive disorder （OR = 2.61,7.7, P 〈 0.05; analysis of dose-response relationships Х^2 = 12.35, P 〈 0.01）. CONCLUSION：

Theoretical assessment of hydrogen production and multicycle energy conversion via solar thermochemical cycle based on nonvolatile SnO2

A kind of solar thermochemical cycle based on methanothermal reduction of SnO2 is proposed for H2 and CO production. We find that the oxygen release capacity and thermodynamic driven force for methanothermal reduction of SnO2 are large, and suggest CH4 :SnO2 = 2:1 as the feasible reduction condition for achieving high purities of syngas and avoiding vaporization of produced Sn. Subsequently, the amount of H2 and energetic upgrade factors under different oxidation conditions are compared, in which excess water vapor is found beneficial for hydrogen production and fuel energetic upgradation. Moreover, the effect of incom plete recovery of SnO2 on the subsequent cycle is underscored and explained. After accounting for factors such as isothermal operation and cycle stability, CH4 :SnO2 = 2:1 and H2O:Sn = 4:1 are suggested for highest solar-to-fuel efficiency of 46.1% at nonisothermal condition, where the reduction and oxidation temperature are 1400 and 600 K, respectively.

Bifunctional Li6CoO4 serving as prelithiation reagent and pseudocapacitive electrode for lithium ion capacitors

Lithium ion capacitors(LICs)have been widely used as energy storage devices due to their high energy density and high power *** LICs,pre-lithiation of negative electrode is *** this work,we employ a bifunctional Li6CoO4(LCO)as cathodic pre-lithiation reagent to improve the electrochemical performance of *** synthesized LCO exhibited high first charge specific capacity of 721 mah g-1and extremely low initial coulombic efficiency of 3.19%,providing sufficient Li+ for the pre-lithiation of negative electrode in the first ***,Li6–xCoOy is generated from LCO during the first charge process,which exhibits pseudocapacitive property and contributes to capacity in form of surface capacitance during subsequent cycles,increasing the capacity of capacitive positive *** the appropriate amounts of addition to the positive side in LICs,this bifunctional prelithiation reagent LCO shows significantly improved the electrochemical performance with the energy density of 78.5 Wh kg-1after 300 cycles between 2.0 and 4.2 V at 250 ma g-1.

Due to the high current capability and excellent flexibility,High Flexible REBCO Cables(HFRC)have emerged as an important candidate for composite high‐temperature superconducting *** REBCO six around one Cable‐In‐Conduit Conductor(CICC)concept has been designed for application in the Central Solenoid(CS)coil of the China Fusion Engineering Test *** the application of fusion devices,the performance of CICC under electromagnetic(EM)loading and thermal stress is very important for reliable and economic ***,a 1.22 m long sub‐cable with HFRC design for CICC was manufactured and tested at 4.2 K in a background magnetic field up to 5.8 *** aim is to investigate the stability of the current‐carrying properties of the HFRC cable under electromagnetic and thermal cyclic *** test results show that the critical current(I_(c))of the HFRC cable reached 17.3 kA in a background magnetic field of 5.8 T at 4.2 ***,no performance degradation was observed after 24 cycles of 80 kN/m peak load with a background field of 5.8 T and 8 warm‐up‐cool‐down cycles between 77 K and room *** test results provide a good basis for the development of full‐size conductors in future magnet applications.

Desired microstructure and surface integrity are critical to achieving the high performance of additively manufactured *** the present work,the hybrid post-processes of magnetic abrasive finishing(maF)and post-heat treatment(HT)were applied to the additively manufactured Inconel718 *** hybrid effects and influencing mechanism on the surface quality and mechanical properties of the additively manufactured samples have been studied *** results show that the maF process effectively reduces the surface roughness by more than an order of magnitude due to the flexibility and geometric consistency of the magnetic particles and abrasives with the finished *** proper sequence of maF and HT obtains enhanced mechanical properties for the homogenized-maF-aged sample with the yield strength of 1147 MPa,the ultimate tensile strength of 1334 MPa,and the elongation of 22.9%,which exceeds the standard wrought *** surface integrity,compressive residual stress field,and grain refinement induced by the maF and subsequent aging heat treatment increase the cracking resistance and delay the fracture failure,which significantly benefits the mechanical *** maF process combined with proper post-heat treatment provides an effective pathway to improve the mechanical properties of additively manufactured materials.

Objective:To isolate and identify the undescribed compounds from the fruits of Cinnamomum migao and evaluate its nitric oxide inhibition ***:The chromatographic techniques of silica gel,Sephadex,and HPLC were used for isolation and purification of the compounds,while HR-ESI-MS,1D NMR,2D NMR,ECD,and X-ray diffraction techniques were used to characterize and confirm the isolated ***,the antiinflammatory activity of the isolated compounds was carried out to check inhibitory potential against the production of nitric oxide with RAW264.7 cells stimulated by ***:Camganoid A(1),a novel sesquiterpene possessing an unprecedented skeleton,and camganoid B(2),containing a unique eight-membered sesquiterpene moiety with a new carbon skeleton,were isolated and identified from the fruits of *** absolute configurations of 1 and 2 were confirmed by single crystal X-ray diffraction and electronic circular dichroism(ECD)*** these compounds,compound 1 exhibited potent inhibitory activity against the production of nitric oxide with IC50value of 4.59μmol/L in RAW264.7 cells stimulated by ***:The isolation of two new skeletons from the fruits part of *** possessed unique skeletons which have not been reported before.

manganese doping to boost the capacitance performance of hierarchical Co_(9)S_(8)@Co(OH)_(2) nanosheet arrays

Transition metal sulfides(TMSs)have been regarded as greatly promising electrode materials for supercapacitors because of abundant redox electroactive sites and outstanding ***,we report a self-supported hierarchical Mn doped Co_(9)S_(8)@Co(OH)_(2) nanosheet arrays on nickel foam(NF)substrate by a one-step metal–organic-framework(MOF)engaged approach and a subsequent sulfurization *** results reveal that the introduction of manganese endows improved electric conductivity,enlarged electrochemical specific surface area,adjusted electronic structure of Co_(9)S_(8)@Co(OH)_(2) and enhanced interfacial activities as well as facilitated reaction kinetics of *** optimal Mn doped Co_(9)S_(8)@Co(OH)_(2) electrode exhibits an ultrahigh specific capacitance of 3745 F g^(-1) at 1 A g^(-1)(5.618 F cm^(-2) at 1.5 ma cm^(-2))and sustains 1710 F g^(-1) at 30 A g^(-1)(2.565 F cm^(-2) at 45 ma cm^(-2)),surpassing most reported values on ***,a battery-type asymmetric supercapacitor(ASC)device is constructed,which delivers high energy density of 50.2 Wh kg^(-1) at power density of 800 W kg^(-1),and outstanding long-term cycling stability(94%capacitance retention after 8000 cycles).The encouraging results might offer an effective strategy to optimize the TMSs for energy-storage devices.

Electrospinning-Enabled Si/C Nanofibers with Dual Modification as Anode materials for High-Performance Lithium-Ion Batteries

In this work,silicon@reduced graphene oxide/pyrolytic carbon nanofibers(Si@RGO/C NFs)composite with double modified layer is prepared through electrospinning,stabilization and *** this composite,polyethylene oxide-polypropylene oxide-polyethylene oxide(P123,a non-ionic surfactant)is introduced as the dispersant,which can make silicon nanoparticles evenly dispersed in electrospinning solution to prevent it from *** modified layer can buffer the volumetric expansion of silicon nanoparticles,prevent direct contact between silicon and electrolyte as well as enhance the electrical ***,carbon fibers synthesized by electrospinning can encapsulate silicon@graphene composite internally to form a double modified *** composite with double modified layer can further alleviate the volume change of silicon nanoparticles and avoid direct contact between silicon and electrolyte to form a stable *** to the above-mentioned merits,the Si@RGO/C NFs composite exhibits excellent cyclic stability and superior rate ***,it maintains a specific capacity of 929 ma h g^(-1)with the retention ratio of 83.1%after 100 cycles at 0.5 A g^(-1)and delivers an outstanding rate capability of 1003 ma h g^(-1)at 2 A g^(-1).

Dorsal root ganglion-derived Schwann cells combined with poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid)/chitosan conduits for the repair of sciatic nerve defects in rats

Schwann cells, nerve regeneration promoters in peripheral nerve tissue engineering, can be used to repair both the peripheral and central nervous systems. However, isolation and puriifcation of Schwann cells are complicated by contamination with ifbroblasts. Current reported measures are mainly limited by either high cost or complicated procedures with low cell yields or purity. In this study, we collected dorsal root ganglia from neonatal rats from which we obtained highly puriifed Schwann cells using serum-free melanocyte culture medium. The purity of Schwann cells （〉95%） using our method was higher than that using standard medium containing fetal bovine serum. The obtained Schwann cells were implanted into poly（lactic-co-glycolic acid）/chi-tosan conduits to repair 10-mm sciatic nerve defects in rats. Results showed that axonal diameter and area were signiifcantly increased and motor functions were obviously improved in the rat sciatic nerve tissue. Experimental ifndings suggest that serum-free melanocyte culture medium is conducive to purify Schwann cells and poly（lactic-co-glycolic acid）/chitosan nerve conduits combined with Schwann cells contribute to restore sciatic nerve defects.
