Active splitting strategy searching approach based on MISOCP with consideration of power island stability

Active splitting control utilizes real-time decision and system-level splitting to prevent cascading blackouts and to maintain power supply under severe disturbances. Splitting strategy searching(SSS) is one of the most crucial issues in active splitting control for deciding‘‘where to split’’. SSS determines the splitting surface in real time to properly divide the asynchronous generators into isolated islands with an optimal control effect. In this paper, an SSS approach that focuses on island stability is presented. The proposed SSS approach is designed to ensure a rational stability margin and regulation ability on each island during and after the transient process of system splitting. This method includes the active/reactive power flow feasibility constraints and voltage/angle stability constraints in the steady state as well as the frequencyresponse capability constraints in the transient process. By considering the island stability constraints in the SSS, the proposed approach can avoid the splitting strategies with poor stability performance. Therefore, the major advantage of the proposed approach is that it can ensure better island static and transient stability during and after the splitting control. In addition, the entire model is formulated as a mixed-integer second-order cone programming(MISOCP)model. Thus, it can be rapidly solved by using commercial optimization solvers. Numerical simulations of a realistic provincial power system in central China demonstrate thevalidity of the proposed approach and the necessity of considering the island stability issues.

In situ measured growth rates of bainite plates in an Fe-C-Mn-Si superbainitic steel

The growth rates of bainite plates in an Fe-C-Mn-Si superbainitie steel were investigated by in situ observation. The lengthening rates of ferrite bainite during both cooling and isothermal holding processes were observed and the growth rates of bainite plates nucleating at grain boundaries, within grains and on preformed bainite were measured. It is indicated that the lengthening rates of bainite plates during the cooling and isothermal processes were different, and that the growth rates of bainite plates nucleating at different types of sites also demon- strated diversity. The bainite plates initiating at [vain boundaries during cooling grew the fastest, while the plates nucleating on preformed bainite did the slowest. However, the growth rate of the bainite plates nucleating at grain boundaries during isothermal transformation de- creased the most, whereas the bainite plates initiating within grains grew the fastest. In addition, the growth rate of ferrite bainite in the study supported the diffusion transformation mechanism of bainite from the viewooint of ~rowth rate.

Soil Salinity Changes Under Cropping with Lycium barbarum *** Irrigation with Saline-Sodic Water

In order to utilize the wasted saline-sodic soils under shallow groundwater condition, a 3-year field study was carried in a field cropped with Lycium barbarum L. and irrigated by drip irrigation with saline groundwater under the water table depth of 30-40 cm in the northern Yinchuan Plain, China. Effects of cropping duration （one, two, and three years） on soil salinity, soil solution composition, and pH in three adjacent plots were investigated in 2008. Results showed that a high irrigation frequency maintained high soil water potential and subsequently facilitated infiltration and downward movement of water and salt in the crop root zone. Salt accumulated on the edges of the ridges, and soil saturated-paste electrical conductivity （ECe） was higher in the edge. Concentrations of Na^＋, Ca^2＋, Mg^2＋, Cl^-, and SO24^- in the soil increased with the soil depth as did the ECe, while HCO3 and pH had a relative uniform distribution in soil profile. As planting year increased, the ECe and soil salts in the field had a decreasing tendency, while in the root zone they decreased immediately after irrigation and then remained relatively stable in the following growing seasons. HCO3 and pH had little change with the planting year. Results suggested that the application of drip irrigation with saline water could ameliorate saline-sodic soil and provide a relatively feasible soil environment for saline-sodic soils with shallow groundwater.

Soil particle size range correction for improved calibration relationship between the laser-diffraction method and sieve-pipette method

Particle size fraction(clay, silt, and sand) is an important characteristic that influences several soil functions. The laser-diffraction method(LDM) provides a fast and cost-effective measurement of particle size distribution, but the results usually differ from those obtained by the traditional sieve-pipette method(SPM). This difference can persist even when calibration is applied between the two methods. This partly relates to the different size ranges of particles measured by the two methods as a result of different operational principles, i.e., particle sedimentation according to Stokes’ Law vs. Mie theory for laser beam scattering. The objective of this study was to identify particle size ranges of LDM equivalent to those measured by SPM and evaluate whether new calibration models based on size range correction can be used to improve LDM-estimated particle size fractions, using 51 soil samples with various texture collected from five soil orders in New Zealand. Particle size distribution was determined using both LDM and SPM. Compared with SPM, original data from LDM underestimated the clay fraction(< 2 μm), overestimated the silt fraction(2–53 μm), but provided a good estimation of the sand fraction(53–2 000 μm).Results from three statistical indices, including Pearson’s correlation coefficient, slope, and Lin’s concordance correlation coefficient, showed that the size ranges of < 2 and 2–53 μm defined by SPM corresponded with the < 5 and 5–53 μm size ranges by LDM, respectively. Compared with the traditional calibration(based on the same particle size ranges), new calibration models(based on the corrected size ranges of these two methods) improved the estimation of clay and silt contents by LDM. Compared with soil-specific models(i.e., different models were developed for different soils), a universal model may be more parsimonious for estimating particle size fractions if the samples to be assessed represent multiple soil orders.

Effect of particle type on the shear behaviour of granular materials

A Multi-Flow Information Flow Tracking Approach for Proving Quantitative Hardware Security Properties

Information Flow Tracking(IFT)is an established formal method for proving security properties related to confidentiality,integrity,and *** has seen promise in identifying security vulnerabilities resulting from design flaws,timing channels,and hardware Trojans for secure hardware ***,existing IFT methods tend to take a qualitative approach and only enforce binary security properties,requiring strict non-interference for the properties to hold while real systems usually allow a small amount of information flows to enable desirable ***,existing methods are inadequate for reasoning about quantitative security properties or measuring the security of a design in order to assess the severity of a security *** this work,we propose two multi-flow solutions—multiple verifications for replicating existing IFT model and multi-flow IFT *** proposed multi-flow IFT method provides more insight into simultaneous information flow behaviors and allows for proof of quantitative information flow security properties,such as diffusion,randomization,and boundaries on the amount of simultaneous information *** results show that our method can be used to prove a new type of information flow security property with verification performance benefits.

Improved Deep Belief Network and Model Interpretation Method for Power System Transient Stability Assessment

The real-time transient stability assessment(TSA)and emergency control are effective measures to suppress accident expansion,prevent system instability,and avoid large-scale power outages in the event of power system ***,real-time assessment is extremely demanding on computing speed,and the traditional method is not *** this paper,an improved deep belief network(DBN)is proposed for the fast assessment of transient stability,which considers the structural characteristics of power system in the construction of loss *** learning has been effective in many fields,but usually is considered as a black-box *** the perspective of machine learning interpretation,this paper proposes a local linear interpreter(LLI)model,and tries to give a reasonable interpretation of the relationship between the system features and the assessment result,and illustrates the conversion process from the input feature space to the high-dimension representation *** proposed method is tested on an IEEE new England test system and demonstrated on a regional power system in *** result demonstrates that the proposed method has rapidity,high accuracy and good interpretability in transient stability assessment.
