Reducing Synchronization Cost for Single-Level Store in Mobile Systems

Emerging byte-addressable non-volatile memory technologies, such as phase change memory （PCM） and spin- transfer torque RAM （STT-RAM）, offer both the byte-addressability of memory and the durability of storage, thus making it feasible to build single-level store systems. To ensure the consistency of persistent data structures in the presence of power failures or system crashes, it requires flushing cache lines to persistent memory frequently, thus incurring non-trivial synchronization overhead. To mitigate this issue, we propose two techniques. First, we use non-volatile STT-RAM as scratchpad memory on chip to store recovery information, thereby eliminating synchronization cost in the logging phase due to the avoidance of off-chip logging operations. Second, we present an adaptive synchronization policy based on caching modes in terms of data access patterns, thereby eliminating unnecessary synchronization cost in the checkpoint phase. Evaluation results indicate that the two techniques improve the overall performance from 2.15x to 2.39x compared with conventional transactional persistent memory.

The brown planthopper is a notorious rice pest in many areas of *** evolution of insecticide resistance in Nilaparvata lugens has become a serious problem in the effective control of this pest in the paddy *** this article,the current susceptibility of *** field populations to novel mesoionic insecticide triflumezopyrim and major classes of chemical insecticides was determined and *** monitoring results indicated that field populations of *** had developed low resistance to triflumezopyrim(resistance ratio,RR:1.3-7.3-fold)during 2015-2018 in China,and the median lethal concentration values varied from 0.05 to 0.29 mg/***,during 2017 to 2018,field populations of *** showed high resistance levels to thiamethoxam(RR:456.1-1025.6-fold),imidacloprid(RR:2195.3-6899.0-fold)and buprofezin(RR:1241.57521.7-fold),moderate to high resistance levels to dinotefuran(RR:97.6-320.1-fold),clothianidin(RR:69.4-230.1-fold)and isoprocarb(RR:44.1-108.0-fold),and low to moderate levels of resistance to chlorpyrifos(RR:12.0-29.7-fold)and nitenpyram(RR:6.9-24.1-fold).In contrast,*** just showed low resistance to sulfoxaflor(RR:3.3-8.5-fold)and etofenprox(RR:5.0-9.1-fold)in the ***,the P450 gene CYP6ER1 was found to be significantly overexpressed in all five field populations of *** collected in 2018 when compared with a laboratory susceptible *** findings will provide useful information to delay the evolution of insecticide resistance in ***.

The brown planthopper,Nilaparvata lugens,is one of the main insect pests of *** *** gene NICYP4CE1 encodes cytochrome P450 monooxygenase(P450),which is a key enzyme in the metabolism of the insecticide *** research has suggested that the expression of NICYP4CEI is induced by imidacloprid stress,but the effect of bacterial symbionts on its expression has not been *** results of this study show that exposure to subtoxic imidacloprid changed the structure of the bacterial symbiont community in ***,the total bacterial content increased but the bacterial species diversity significantly *** accounted for the largest proportion of bacteria in ***;its abundance significantly increased after subtoxic imidacloprid *** transcript level of NICYP4CEI was significantly increased by imidacloprid,but this effect was significantly weakened after Wolbachia was cleared with *** result suggests that Wolbachia enhances the expression of N1CYP4CE1 to promote the detoxification metabolic response to imidacloprid *** the effect of bacterial symbionts on gene expression in the host provides a new perspective on interactions between insecticides and their target insect pests,and highlights that subtoxic imidacloprid exposure may raise the risk of insecticide resistance by altering the structure of bacterial symbiont communities.

Phylogeography of Haplocarpha rueppelii(Asteraceae) suggests a potential geographic barrier for plant dispersal and gene flow in East Africa

East Africa is a biodiversity hotspot. Haplocarpha rueppelii （***.） Beauverd is mainly distributed in the alpine grassland of East Africa. Here we sampled 65 individuals of eight populations/locations of H. rueppelii including hairy and glabrous forms from Mts. Elgon, Aberdare, Kenya, Kilimanjaro and Bale Mountains. We then sequenced one nuclear and three chloroplast DNA fragments and conducted phylogeographic analyses to test the taxonomic rank of the two forms and causes for the differentiation （intrinsic reproductive isolation and geographic barrier）. The results demonstrate that the species consists of two major groups, one includes the populations from Mts. Elgon, Aberdare and Bale, while the other includes Mts. Kenya and Kilimanjaro. The species has established in Mts. Kenya and Aberdare during the Pleistocene. However, migration rate for individuals between the two mountains was low as showed by gene flow analysis. A barrier for plant dispersal and gene flow would have existed between Mts. Aberdare and Kenya since at least Pleistocene. No change of the taxonomic concept of this species is needed. This study reveals a potential geographic barrier in East Africa. We hope it will arouse more scientists＇ interests in phylogeography and biodiversity of East Africa.

Land use/land cover(LULC)indices can be considered while developing land surface temperature(LST)*** relationship between LST and LULC indices must be established to accurately estimate the impacts of LST *** study developed novel machine learning models for predicting LST using multispectral Landsat images data of Freetown city in *** neural network(ANN)and gene expression programming(GEP)were employed to develop LST prediction *** of multispectral bands were obtained from Landsat 4-5 and 8 satellites to develop the proposed *** extracted data of LULC indices,such as normal difference vegetation index(NDVI),normal difference built-up index(NDBI),urban index(UI),and normal difference water index(NDWI),were utilized as attributes to model *** results show that the root-mean-square error(RMSE)of the ANN and GEP models were 0.91oC and 1.08 oC,*** GEP model was used to yield a relationship between LULC indices and LST in the form of a mathematical equation,which can be conveniently used to test new data regarding the thematic *** sensitivity analysis revealed that UI is the most influential parameter followed by NDBI,NDVI,and NDWI towards contributing LST.

Dear editor,Pupillary abnormalities, i.e., mydriasis, pupillary arefl exia, and/or anisocoria, may indicate the occurrence of acute clinical events in intensive care units (ICUs),which are particularly seen in severe patients with brain and/or cervical spinal cord injury. The pathophysiology of benign episodic mydriasis is still not completely clear. We present a patient with severe burns presented with temporary alternating bilateral pupil enlargement accompanied by paroxysmal increases in respiration,heart rate, and blood pressure.

Particle Image Velocimetry （PIV） technique was employed to study experimentally gas-liquid two-phase flow in an aeration tank. In terms of the PIV principles, an algorithm of PIV based on the Fast Fourier Transformation （FFT） was worked out. The PIV program was developed and verified, and then was used to measure three kinds of states in the testing device. The program was also used to calculate and analyze the related parameters. The experimental data indicate that the bubbles in testing device have the longest resident time and stronger turbulent intensity for the gas-liquid two-phase flow in a special case （Case 3）, resulting in great increase of the oxygen transferring speed and efficiency, whereby providing the basis for the selection design of aeration tank.

The complexity of climate reconstructions using the coexistence approach on Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau

Quantifying the palaeoclimates of Qinghai–Tibetan Plateau is vital for understanding the uplift history of plateau and the evolution of Asian monsoon since Cenozoic. Recently, the Coexistence Approach(CA) has been employed to reconstruct the palaeoelevation and palaeoclimate of the plateau by several studies. However, the application of CA in mountainous areas and the realism of climate reconstructions via this method are seldom discussed,although the complexity of reconstructions is speculated. Here we reevaluated the realism of climate reconstruction using the CA with modern pollen samples from the Qinghai–Tibetan Plateau, and try to explore the possible factors influencing the precipitation and temperature reconstructions by CA. We suggest that the long-distance transport pollen as a result of the Asian summer monsoon potentially significantly affects the reconstructions both for precipitation and temperature. The precipitation complexly interacting with snowmelt and permafrost thaw leads to the discrepancy between the reconstructed precipitation and the real value. The response temperature for blossoming of dwarfed plants on the plateau is mostly likely higher than the air temperature(usually measured at1.5 m above ground) due to energy flux or morphological adaptation of inflorescences during the growing season,causing the distortion of temperature reconstructions. Precipitation reconstruction is notoriously difficult as the establishers of CA have already suggested, but reconstructing the low temperatures may be even more challenging on Qinghai–Tibetan Plateau. Though all of the explorations in current paper are in a qualitative way, it offers an inspiration of how appropriately interpret the disagreements between CA results and the observations, and of how to obtain a reasonable reconstruction of palaeoclimate of the plateau.

To increase the payload,reduce energy consumption,improve work efficiency and therefore must accordingly reduce the total hull weight of the *** paper introduces a design optimization process for the pressurehull of submarines under uniform external hydrostatic pressure using bothfinite element analysis(FEA)and optimization tools.A comprehensive study about the optimum design of the pressure hull,to minimize the weight and increase the volume,to reach minimum buoyancy factor and maximum operating depth minimizing the buoyancy factor(B.F)is taken as an objective function with constraints of plate and frame yielding,general instability and *** optimization process contains many design variables such as pressure-hull plate thickness,unsupported spacing,dimensions of long and ring beams andfinally the elliptical submersible pressure-hull *** optimization process was conducted using ANSYS parametric design language(APDL)and *** Multi-Island Genetic Algorithm(G.A)is considered to conduct the optimization ***,parametric analysis is done on the pressure hull to examine the effect of different design variables on the pressure-hull *** a result,the B.F of the proposed optimal model is reduced by an average of 31.78%compared with Reference Model(RM).Maximum von Mises stress is reduced by 27%as *** results can be helpful for submarine pressure-hull designers.
