Supplemental feeding on rangelands:new dynamics of the livestock in the El Ouara rangelands in southern Tunisia

Fodder production in arid rangelands has been traditionally considered as the main source of nutrition for ***,the production of these fodder may be influenced by some socio-economic and climatic *** study aims to identify the various rangeland use forms and determine the types of livestock feeding system in the El Ouara rangelands of Ben guarden District in southern Tunisia by analysing the importance of supplemental feeding and main determinants of this *** were collected by a survey that targeted a sample of 50 breeders in the El Ouara *** statistics and binary logistic regression were used to analyse the *** results showed that there are two types of association practiced by breeders:“Cherka”association practiced by 10.00% of breeders and cash payment association practiced by 53.00% of ***,transhumance,sedentary,and semi-urban forms are the main ways in which breeders use the *** are four livestock feeding systems in the El Ouara rangelands being used to feed livestock:natural rangeland,rangeland-based,mixed,and concentrate-based feeding *** feeding has become fundamental for the livestock feeding system in the El Ouara *** breeders with the largest camel size still use the natural rangeland feeding system,while the breeders who have the largest herd size practice the mixed feeding *** logistic regression results reveal that breeder age,cereal area,herd size,migrant remittance,second activity,and agricultural development group membership can significantly impact the supplemental *** summary,this study can help policy-makers plan innovative practices based on climatic change,ensure the sustainability of livestock feeding system,and make effective decisions for local development.

Karyological and morphometric variation of the North African green frog Pelophylax saharicus (Anura) in northeastern Africa

Morphometric variation ofPelophylax saharicus was analysed using univariate and multivariate statistics, with both traditional and geometric morphometrics, based on 148 specimens from four different geographical localities in Tunisia and Algeria. The results show the existence of three morphotypes in Tunisia and one in Algeria, and indicate a significant degree of variation in morphometric characters between regions. Specimens from the southernmost region have the smallest body size and the greatest morphometrie divergence from other populations. This pattern of morphometric variation probably results from phenotypic plasticity in response to local environmental factors. The results of our chromosomal study （C-, Ag-NOR-, endonuclease digestion, DAPI, CMA3 and Q-banding） reveal this species to exhibit the plesiomorphic Pelophylax karyotype of 2n=26 biarmed chromosomes and NORs on the eleventh pair. Similarities and differences of the North African green frog are discussed in relation to the different forms of data collected （chromosomal, morphometric, ecological） [Current Zoology 56 （6）： 678~586, 2010].

AIM:To assess the possible association between PTPN22(R620W) gene polymorphism and inflammatory bowel disease(IBD).METHODS:One hundred and sixty-four patients with IBD 105 Crohn's disease(CD) and 59 ulcerative colitis(UC) and 100 healthy controls were *** of the PTPN22 gene 1858C→T polymorphism was performed by restriction fragment length polymorphism-polymerase chain reaction with Rsa Ⅰ ***:The genotypic and allelic frequencies of(R620W) PTPN22 gene polymorphism reveal a significant association of the PTPN22 620-W allele with IBD,compared to the healthy control group(OR:17.81,95% CI:4.18-21.86,P = 0.00001).Nevertheless,nodifference in this polymorphism was found between CD and UC *** significant association was found between the frequencies of genotypes of the PTPN22 gene with either the clinical features such as sex,age,age at disease onset,and extent of colitis,or the production of serological markers(anti-Saccharomyces cerevisiae antibody in CD and perinuclear anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody in UC).CONCLUSION:These observations confirm the association of IBD susceptibility with the PTPN22 1858T(620-W) allele in Tunisian patients.

Influences of nanoparticles and chain length on thermodynamic and electrical behavior of fluorine liquid crystals

Hydrogen-bonded polar nematic liquid crystal series with the general formula n OBAF(n = 7-12) is studied. The mesomorphic characterization is demonstrated through differential scanning calorimetry(DSC) and polarized optical microscopy(POM). The complexes with short alkyl chains(n = 7, 8) present a wide nematic range and monotropic smectic F mesophase, whereas the longer alkyl chain(n = 10-12) analogues show high melting and low clearing mesomorphic liquid crystals. The thermal range of the mesophase and the birefringence increase with chain length decreasing. Furthermore, the effect of the nanoparticles(LiNbO_(3)) on the thermal and the electrical behavior of 8OBAF are investigated. The presence of LiNbO_(3) nanoparticles increases the conductivity and reduces the resistivity of the complex.

Aggressive primary hepatic epithelioid hemangioendothelioma:a case report and literature review

A new case of epithelioid hemangioendothelioma is reported to have occurred to a 67-year-old patient who consulted for rightsided chest pain. The work-up showed multiple right pulmonary lesions associated with bilateral moderate pleural effusion and left-sided pleural thickening and three hypodense nodules in the right lobe of the liver, peritoneal thickening, ascites, and multiple vertebral lytic lesions. The diagnosis of an epithelioid hemangioendothelioma was concluded through a histological examination of a computed tomography scan guided biopsy of the liver. The patient received a primary mono-chemotherapy with Adriamycin(75 mg/m^2 every three weeks) and intravenous bisphosphonates without response and general status impairment. The patient died after 16 months of follow-up.

Simulator Coupled with Distributed Co-Simulation Protocol for Automated Driving Tests

Ecophysiological aspects and photosynthetic pathways in 105 plants species in saline and arid environments of Tunisia

In Tunisian arid regions, plant life forms, ecotypes, physiological types and photosynthetic pathways （03, 04 or CAM） remain unclear. Understanding the characters of these plant species could be important for land restoration. A literature survey was conducted for 105 plants species in arid regions of Tunisia. These plant species belong to several ecotypes： halophytes, xerophytes, gypsophytes, psamophytes, xero-halophytes, gypso-halophytes, psamo-halophytes, psamo-xerophytes, xero-gypsophytes and hygro-halophytes. The variation of photosynthetic pathway types in the 105 studied species shows that 56.2% were C3, 41.0% were C4, 1.9% were CAM and 1.0% were C3-CAM. The C3 pathway was more abundant in the halophytes, whereas the C4 one was more common in the xerophytes, gypsophytes, gyp- so-halophytes and psamo-halophytes. The ratio of C3 to C4 species （C3/C4 ratio） was 0.2 in the psamo-halophytes, 0.8 in the gypso-halophytes, 1.1 in the xerophytes, 1.6 in the xero-halophytes, 1.8 in the hygrohalophytes, 2.0 in the psamo- phytes and 3.8 in the halophytes. The annuals were mainly C3 plants whereas most of perennials were C4 ones. The C3/C4 ratio was 1.3 in succulent species and 1.4 in non-succulent species. Thus, succulence seems not to affect the distribution of C3 and C4 pathways within the studied plants. This investigation shows high percentages of C4 plants occurred in Tuni- sian arid regions. However, there were significant differences in their abundance among ecotypes. Basing on C3/C4 ratio, we can find that the abundance of the C4 pathway was in the following order： psamo-halophytes, gypso-halophytes, xe- rophytes, xero-halophytes, hygro-halophytes, psamophytes and halophytes. In Tunisian arid regions, C4 species were most abundant in xerophytes and less abundant in halophytes. Isolation and characterization of facultative mixotrophic ammonia-oxidizing bacteria from constructed wetlands

Autotrophic ammonia-oxidizing bacteria （AOB） have been widely studied in constructed wetlands systems, while mixotrophic AOB have been less thoroughly examined. Heterotrophic bacteria were isolated from wastewater and rhizospheres of macrophytes of constructed wetlands, and then cultivated in a mixotrophic medium containing ammonium and acetic acid. A molecular characterization was accomplished using ITS-PCR amplification, and phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene Sequences. Results showed the presence of 35 bacteria, among 400 initially heterotrophic isolates, that were able to remove ammonia. These 35 isolates were classified into 10 genetically different groups based on ITS pattern. Then, a collection of 10 isolates were selected because of their relatively high ammonia removal efficiencies （ARE≥ 80%） and their phylogenetic diversity. In conditions of mixotrophy, these strains were shown to be able to grow （increase of optical density OD660 during incubation with assimilation of nitrogen into cellular biomass） and to oxidize ammonia （important ammonia oxidation efficiencies, AOE between 79% and 87%）. Among these facultative mixotrophic AOB, four isolates were genetically related to Firmicutes （Bacillus and Exiguobacterium）, three isolates were affiliated to Actinobacteria （Arthrobacter） and three other isolates were associated with Proteobacteria （Pseudomonas, Ochrobactrum and Bordetella）.
