Design and preparation of a new multi-targeted drug delivery system using multifunctional nanoparticles for co-delivery of siRNA and paclitaxel

Drug resistance is a great challenge in cancer therapy using chemotherapeutic agents. Administration of these drugs with siRNA is an efficacious strategy in this battle. Here, the present study tried to incorporate siRNA and paclitaxel(PTX) simultaneously into a novel nanocarrier. The selectivity of carrier to target cancer tissues was optimized through conjugation of folic acid(FA) and glucose(Glu) onto its surface. The structure of nanocarrier was formed from ternary magnetic copolymers based on FeCopolyethyleneimine(FeCo-PEI) nanoparticles and polylactic acid-polyethylene glycol(PLA-PEG) gene delivery system. Biocompatibility of FeCo-PEI-PLA-PEG-FA(NPsA), FeCo-PEI-PLA-PEG-Glu(NPsB) and FeCo-PEI-PLA-PEG-FA/Glu(NPsAB) nanoparticles and also influence of PTX-loaded nanoparticles on in vitro cytotoxicity were examined using MTT assay. Besides, siRNA-FAM internalization was investigated by fluorescence microscopy. The results showed the blank nanoparticles were significantly less cytotoxic at various concentrations. Meanwhile, siRNA-FAM/PTX encapsulated nanoparticles exhibited significant anticancer activity against MCF-7 and BT-474 cell lines. NPsAB/siRNA/PTX nanoparticles showed greater effects on MCF-7 and BT-474 cells viability than NPsA/siRNA/PTX and NPsB/siRNA/***, they induced significantly higher anticancer effects on cancer cells compared with NPsA/siRNA/PTX and NPsB/siRNA/PTX due to their multi-targeted properties using FA and Glu. We concluded that NPsAB nanoparticles have a great potential for co-delivery of both drugs and genes for use in gene therapy and chemotherapy.

Molecular dynamics investigation of mechanical properties of single-layer phagraphene

Phagraphene is a very attractive two-dimensional (2D) full carbon allotrope with very interesting mechanical, electronic, optical, and thermal properties. The objective of this study is to investigate the mechanical properties of this new graphene like 2D material. In this work, mechanical properties of phagraphene have been studied not only in the defect-free form, but also with the critical defect of line cracks, using the classical molecular dynamics simulations. Our study shows that the pristine phagraphene in zigzag direction experience a ductile behavior under uniaxial tensile loading and the nanosheet in this direction are less sensitive to temperature changes as compared to the armchair direction. We studied different crack lengths to explore the in fluence of defects on the mechanical properties of phagraphene. We also investigated the temperature effect on the mechanical properties of pristine and defective phagraphene. Our classical atomistic simulation results confirm that larger cracks can reduce the strength of the phagraphene. Moreover, it was shown the temperature has a considerable weakening effect on the tensile strength of phagraphene. The results of this study may be useful for the design of nano-devices using the phagraphene.

Experimental Evaluation of A New Developed Algorithm for An Autonomous Surface Vehicle and Comparison with Simulink Results

Performing repeatable duties automatically was the dreams of human being for centuries. Although full autonomy has long been dreamed of by visionaries, many researches have been performed for surface vehicles automation since the last century to get close to this dream stepwise. To increase daily working hours and accuracy and reduce cost, operations such as hydrography are susceptible for autonomy. Beside platform topology, installed sensors and energy resources, the core elements of any autonomous surface vehicle are navigation, guidance and control systems. To perform bathymetry operation in autonomy manner, a reliable and robust navigation algorithm is designed and embedded in an autonomous surface vehicle titled Morvarid. Morvarid is a plug-in hybrid solar powered catamaran boat. The developed algorithm is a combination of extended Kalman filter, search ball and potential field approaches. Many experimental field tests are carried out after simulation in Simulink environment. Test results illustrated the algorithm and improved the path followed by reducing SD and RMSE and there is a good correlation between simulation run and experimental tests.

Design of on-board calibration methods for a digital sun sensor based on Levenberg–Marquardt algorithm and Kalman filters

Digital sun sensor is one of the most important sensors used in the Attitude Determination System(ADS)of the *** to the harsh environmental conditions that exist in the space,various distortions may occur in the sun sensor optical system that lead to the reduced accuracy of this ***,it is necessary to recalibrate the optical parameters of the aforementioned *** this purpose,first a novel attitude independent error model is proposed for the SS-411 sun sensor that includes the central point of the CCD array,installation error,filter thickness and sensor ***,the mutual interfaces between the sensor parameters are considered in the developed *** order to extract the sensor parameters,a nonlinear optimization technique called the Levenberg–Marquardt is applied to the developed model as a batch *** addition,the Extended Kalman Filter(EKF)and the Unscented Kalman Filter(UKF)have been utilized as sequential *** will be shown that by considering a worst case of variation amount for sensor parameters,an accuracy improvement of about 17°is achieved by the developed calibration *** between the developed algorithms represents that UKF has higher accuracy,shorter time convergence but higher computational load.

Study of relation between the gamma flux buildup factors and source geometry by M-C simulation

This paper is to achieve a gamma-ray source with the lowest rate of buildup factor, which is of great importance in medical, industrial and agricultural *** flux buildup factor of gamma rays is calculated by the MCNP code for point, linear, surface and volume sources with shield layers of lead, iron and aluminum. The results show that for the high Z shielding material, the flux buildup factor of coaxial cylindrical sources is the lowest(1.6–2.3)of all sources, while for low Z shielding materials, the coaxial disk surface sources have smaller buildup factor(1.45–1.6).

Feasibility of using wind turbines for renewable hydrogen production in Firuzkuh, Iran

The present study was conducted with the objective of evaluating several proposed turbines from 25 kW to 1.65 MW in order to select the appropriate turbine for electricity and hydrogen production in Firuzkuh area using the decision making trial and evaluation (DEMATEL) and data envelopment analysis (DEA) methods. Initially, five important factors in selection of the best wind turbine for wind farm construction were determined using the DEMATEL technique. Then, technical-economic feasibility was performed for each of the eight proposed turbines using the HOMER software, and the performance score for each proposed wind turbine was obtained. The results show that the GE 1.5sl model wind turbine is suitable for wind farm construction. The turbine can generate 5515.325 MW of electricity annually, which is equivalent to $ 1103065. The average annual hydrogen production would be 1014 kg for Firuzkuh by using the GE 1.5sl model turbine.

The piezoelectric method to atomize fluids in aeroponic systems is known as a new *** the current study,the effects of four independent variables on the misting rate were *** variables were Dosage of Chemical Fertilizer(DCF),the Height of Solution above Piezoelectric Ceramic(HSPC),Piezoelectric Location at the Bottom of the Container(PLBC),and the Container Geometry(CG).Physical properties such as fluid density,viscosity,surface tension,Total Dissolved Solids(TDS),and Electrical Conductivity(EC)of the solutions were ***,optimization was performed to determine suitable ranges of independent variables to get the optimum value of the misting *** showed that the HSPC,PLBC,and CG significantly affect the total misting rate(P<1%).Besides,the DCF,HSPC,and CG have significant effects on surface evaporation at a probability level of 1%.At the temperature of 25℃and for different concentrations of fertilizer,the density,viscosity,surface tension,TDS,and EC varied between 1002-1006.5 kg/m^(3),1.009-1.395 mPas,0.07182-0.07298 N/m,253-3397 mg/L,502-6795 mS/cm,*** misting rate ranged between 0.499 and 5.720 g/*** the outlet of the mist generation container,mass flow rate was in the range of 59.895 to 65.116 g/***,theoretically calculated mist average droplet size was in the range of 2.90 to 2.92 mm for different fertilizer *** present study is the first research on the factors affecting the ultrasonic mist production rate in an aeroponic *** future developments,effect of voltage,frequency,and using horn should be ***,similar research should be done in the field of gas-phase bioreactors(mist bioreactors).

Design feasibility of gamma camera without collimator based on specific arrangement of the detectors

In gamma camera and single-photon emission computerized tomography, the collimator removes most photons. Here, a gamma camera without collimator utilizes a specific arrangement of detectors. Instead of bending beams(like a lens) or directing beams(by parallel hole collimator), changes are created in detectors' field of view(FOV), so that each detector's FOV looks different from others. Simulation proved this theory, with 98 detectors(2 cm 9 1.41 cm) arranged in a zigzag manner for Monte Carlo simulation. A radioactive source with energy of140 ke V was situated on the detectors' faces. Sixty projections, each 3(0 –179) apart, were simulated by Monte Carlo N-Particle(MCNP) 4C code, rotating detectors around a radioactive point. The band containing the radioactive source is clearly visible in each *** obtained after simulation in different projections were reconstructed, and point source location emerged correctly. Simulation of gamma camera with zigzag arrangement of detectors and MCNP-4C code demonstrated that one could string the space and determine radioactive source by image reconstruction without using collimators, solely through these special detectors' distribution.
