Preparis Channel is the very important exchange path of energy and materials between the northern Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea(AS).A set of hydrographic measurements,a microstructure profiler,and a deep mooring were used to determine the characteristics of water masses,turbulent mixing,and flows in the Preparis Channel.The unprecedented short-term mooring data reveal that a deep current in the deep narrow passage(below 400 m)of the Preparis Channel flows toward the Bay of Bengal(BoB)with a mean along-stream velocity of 25.26 cm/s at depth of 540 m;above the deep current,there are a relatively weak current flows toward the AS with a mean along-stream velocity of 15.46 cm/s between 500 m and 520 m,and another weak current flows toward the BoB between 430 m and 500 m.Thus,a sandwiched vertical structure of deep currents(below 400 m)is present in the Preparis Channel.The volume transport below 400 m is 0.06 Sv(1 Sv=106 m^(3)/s)from the AS to the BoB.In the upper layer(shallower than 300 m),the sea water of the AS is relatively warmer and fresher than that in the BoB,indicating a strong exchange through the channel.Microstructure profiler observations reveal that the turbulent diffusivity in the upper layer of the Preparis Channel reaches O(10−4 m^(2)/s),one order larger than that in the interior of the BoB and over the continental slope of the northern AS.We speculate that energetic high-mode internal tides in the Preparis Channel contribute to elevated turbulent mixing.In addition,a local“hotspot”of turbidity is identified at the deep mooring site,at depth of about 100 m,which corresponds to the location of elevated turbulent mixing in the Preparis Channel.

Geographical distribution and age composition of Euphausia superba larvae (Crustacea: Euphausiacea) in the South Shetland Islands region and southern Scotia Sea in relation to environmental conditions

Spatial distribution patterns of the different life stages of Euphausia superba in the region of the South Shet- land Islands and southern Scotia Sea （Antarctica） were assessed based on scientific survey data collected in lanuary and February of 2010. Adults, eggs, nauplii, metanauplii, calyptopis I-Ill, and furcilia I-II were found in the investigation. The abundance of larvae averaged 1 172.8 ind./mz, with calyptopis I and II as the dominant stages. Habitat occupancy patterns varied among Euphausia superba at different stages, and three sub-regions were identified by cluster analysis. The degree of larval development increased from west to east. Larvae were not observed north of the South Shetland Islands. Calyptopis I was predominant in the water between Elephant Island and the South Orkney Islands, which featured no thermocline. Older stages, including calyptopis II and III and furcilia I and II, were common in north and northeast of the South Orkney Islands, which were characterized by high temperature and high chlorophyll concentration. Distri- bution and abundance of the early life stages of E. superba were associated with specific environmental con- ditions. According to Biota-Environment matching （BIOENV）, the distributions of E. superba larvae were correlated with a combination of temperature at the surface and 200 m, and 0-100 m integrated chlorophyll a concentration.

Background: Suicide has become an increasingly serious public health problem. However, the etiology of suicide is numerous and there is a lack of effective targets for clinical intervention. Previous studies have found a correlation between sleep disturbances and suicide, suggesting that sleep may be a potential target for intervention in suicide. However, the relationship between sleep disorders and suicide has not been validated in large population-based studies. Thus, this study aimed to examine the association between suicide and sleep disturbances among the general population.Methods: A total of 487,891 participants(mean age: 56.55 ± 8.09 years;female: 54.4%) were recruited from the UK Biobank. These participants were recruited between 2006 and 2010 with follow-up until February 2016 in this general population-based prospective study. Suicide was collected through hospital inpatient records or a death caused by ICD-10 codes X60-X84 or the death registry. Sleep disturbances, including sleep duration, chronotype, napping, insomnia, and sleepiness, were assessed at the initial assessments. The chi-square test was used to estimate the relationship between sleep disturbances and suicidality.Results: During a follow-up period of 7.04 years(SD: 0.88), 219 participants completed suicide. After adjusting for demographics, substance use, medical diseases, mental disorders, and other sleep disturbances, sleep duration(c2=9.02, P=0.011), and napping(c2 =9.58, P=0.048) were significantly associated with suicide.Conclusions: Our findings suggest that sleep disturbances, mainly short-and long-sleep duration and napping, may serve as a indicator of suicide among the general population.

Targeted delivery of chlorogenic acid by mannosylated liposomes to effectively promote the polarization of TAMs for the treatment of glioblastoma

Tumor-associated macrophages(TAMs)generally display an immunosuppressive M2 phenotype and promote tumor progression and metastasis,suggesting their potential value as a target in cancer immunotherapy.Chlorogenic acid(CHA)has been identified as a potent immunomodulator that promotes the polarization of TAMs from an M2 to an M1 phenotype.However,rapid clearance in vivo and low tumor accumulation have compromised the immunotherapeutic efficacy of CHA in clinical trials.In this study,mannosylated liposomes are developed for targeted delivery of CHA to TAMs.The immunoregulatory effects of CHA,along with the overall antitumor efficacy of CHA-encapsulated mannosylated liposomes,are investigated through in vitro and in vivo experiments.The prepared CHA-encapsulated mannosylated liposomes exhibit an ideal particle size,favorable stability,and preferential accumulation in tumors via the mannose receptor-mediated TAMs-targeting effects.Further,CHA-encapsulated mannosylated liposomes inhibit G422 glioma tumor growth by efficiently promoting the polarization of the pro-tumorigenic M2 phenotype to the anti-tumorigenic M1 phenotype.Overall,these findings indicate that CHA-encapsulated mannosylated liposomes have great potential to enhance the immunotherapeutic efficacy of CHA by inducing a shift from the M2 to the M1 phenotype.

Background: Accumulating evidence suggests that later sleep midpoint is associated with an increased risk of multiple diseases. However, little is known about the associations between sleep midpoint and incident digestive diseases. Thus, this study aimed to explore the association between accelerometer-measured sleep midpoint and incident digestive disease among the general population.Methods: These participants in this cohort study were recruited between 2013 and 2015. Follow-up occurred through May 2021. Sleep midpoint was measured by 7-day accelerometer data. The outcome was digestive disease, which was collected through hospital inpatient admissions and death registries. Cox regression model and linear-nonlinear analyses were used to investigate the associations between sleep midpoint and the risk of digestive disease.Results: Of 103 682 participants who were 43 to 79 years old and had accelerometer data, 92 614(mean age 62.36 years, 56.38% female) were eligible for inclusion. In the age-and sex-adjustment model, both earlier and later sleep midpoint were associated with a higher risk of digestive disease(all P < 0.001). However, in the fully adjusted model, later sleep midpoint, but not earlier sleep midpoint, was associated with a higher risk of digestive disease(P < 0.001). These findings were rather robust to comprehensive sensitivity analyses.Conclusions: Our findings suggest that later sleep midpoint may serve as a robust indicator of incident digestive disease among the general population. These findings provide a potential target for early intervention and prevention of digestive disease.

With the rapid and wide deployment of renewable energy,the operations of the power system are facing greater challenges when dispatching flexible resources to keep power balance.The output power of renewable energy is uncertain,and thus flexible regulation for the power balance is highly demanded.Considering the multi-timescale output characteristics of renewable energy,a flexibility evaluation method based on multi-scale morphological decomposition and a multi-timescale energy storage deployment model based on bi-level decision-making are proposed in this paper.Through the multi-timescale decomposition algorithm on the basis of mathematical morphology,the multi-timescale components are separated to determine the flexibility requirements on different timescales.Based on the obtained flexibility requirements,a multi-timescale energy resources deployment model based on bi-level optimization is established considering the economic performance and the flexibility of system operation.This optimization model can allocate corresponding flexibility resources according to the economy,flexibility and reliability requirements of the power system,and achieve the trade-off between them.Finally,case studies demonstrate the effectiveness of our model and method.

The background and scientific objectives of the Mars Climate Station(MCS)for Tianwen-1 are introduced,accompanied by a comparative review of the status of related meteorological observation missions and of advanced sensing technologies.As one of the China Tianwen-1 Mission’s principal scientific payloads,the MCS contains four measurement sensors and one electronic processing unit that are specially designed to measure local temperature,pressure,wind,and sound on the Martian surface.The MCS’s measurement principles,technical schemes,ground calibration techniques,and adaptability evaluation to the Mars surface environment of MCS are introduced in details.The conclusion presents measurement performance specifications of the MCS,based on ground test results,that will provide guidance to future research based on data from the Tianwen-1 and later Mars missions.
