Moxibustion inhibits interleukin-12 and tumor necrosis factor alpha and modulates intestinal flora in rat with ulcerative colitis

AIM: To investigate the effect of moxibustion on intestinal flora and release of interleukin-12 (IL-12) and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) from the colon in rat with ulcerative colitis (UC). METHODS: A rat model of UC was established by local stimulation of the intestine with supernatant from colonic contents harvested from human UC patients. A total of 40 male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into the following groups: normal (sham), model (UC), herb-partition moxibustion (HPM-treated), and positive control sulfasalazine (SA-treated). Rats treated with HPM received HPM at acupuncture points ST25 and RN6, once a day for 15 min, for a total of 8 d. Rats in the SA group were perfused with SA twice a day for 8 d. The colonic histopathology was observed by hematoxylin-eosin. The levels of intestinal flora, including Bifidobacterium, Lactobacillus, Escherichia coli (E. coli), and Bacteroides fragilis (B. fragilis), were tested by real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction to detect bacterial 16S rRNA/DNA in order to determine DNA copy numbers of each specific species. Immunohistochemical assays were used to observe the expression of TNF-α and IL-12 in the rat colons. RESULTS: HPM treatment inhibited immunopathology in colonic tissues of UC rats; the general morphological score and the immunopathological score were significantly decreased in the HPM and SA groups compared with the model group [3.5 (2.0-4.0), 3.0 (1.5-3.5) vs 6.0 (5.5-7.0), P < 0.05 for the general morphological score, and 3.00 (2.00-3.50), 3.00 (2.50-3.50) vs 5.00 (4.50-5.50), P < 0.01 for the immunopathological score]. As measured by DNA copy number, we found that Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus, which are associated with a healthy colon, were significantly higher in the HPM and SA groups than in the model group (1.395 ± 1.339, 1.461 ± 1.152 vs 0.045 ± 0.036, P < 0.01 for Bifidobacterium, and 0.395 ± 0.325, 0.851 ± 0.651 vs 0.0015 ± 0.0014, P < 0.01 for Lactobacillus). Strength Activity Index of Air Quenched Basic Oxygen Furnace Steel Slag

Air quenched basic oxygen furnace steel slag （BOF-SS） is processed at very high cooling rate, which is expected to have different cementitious properties from conventional slowly cooled BOF-SS. For this purpose, the strength activity indexes of air quenched and slowly cooled BOF-SS are investigated. The results reveal that, under the specific surface area （S） of 490 m^2/kg, the compressive strength activity index reaches 1.24 after 28 days with replacement of 15% air quenched BOF-SS and reaches 1.05 after 28 days with replacement of 20% air quenched BOF-SS and 30%granulated blast furnace slag （GBFS）. The cementitious activity of air quenched BOF-SS is obviously higher than that of slowly cooled BOF-SS, mainly because it contains more C3 S and glassy phases.

Blood viscosity plays an important role in maintaining vascular homeostasis. Under normal physiological conditions, blood viscosity is kept at a relatively stable level by a variety of regulatory mechanisms. However, under pathological conditions, disorders in these regulatory mechanisms mediated by endothelial cell dysfunction result in the pathogenesis and development of certain diseases, such as cardio-cerebrovascular diseases, diabetes mellitus, and hemorrhagic shock. Therefore, monitoring and regulating blood viscosity are important for the diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis of disease. This article reviews the role of blood viscosity regulation and its importance in disease prevention and treatment.

The solidification microstructures of undercooled Ni90Cu10 alloys under different undercoolings were studied systematically by means of melt coating and cyclic *** the obtained undercooling range,the solidification structures of the two undercooled alloys have similar transformation processes,and there are two kinds of grain refinement structures under the conditions of low undercooling and high undercooling,*** microstructures of the two grain refinement processes were analyzed in more detail by electronic backscattering diffraction *** the condition of small undercooling,dendrite remelting is considered to be the main reason of grain ***,under the condition of high undercooling,the existence of annealing twins and obvious migration of grain boundary are important evidences for the occurrence of recrystallization process.

In many regression analysis,the authors are interested in regression mean of response variate given predictors,not its the conditional *** paper is concerned with dimension reduction of predictors in sense of mean function of response conditioning on *** authors introduce the notion of partial dynamic central mean dimension reduction subspace,different from central mean dimension reduction subspace,it has varying subspace in the domain of predictors,and its structural dimensionality may not be the same point by *** authors study the property of partial dynamic central mean dimension reduction subspace,and develop estimated methods called dynamic ordinary least squares and dynamic principal Hessian directions,which are extension of ordinary least squares and principal Hessian directions based on central mean dimension reduction *** kernel estimate methods for dynamic ordinary least squares and dynamic Principal Hessian Directions are employed,and large sample properties of estimators are given under the regular *** and real data analysis demonstrate that they are effective.

Blue-red complex light emitting Ingan/gan multi-quantum well(MQW)structures are fabricated by metal organic chemical vapor deposition(MOCVD).The structures are grown on a 2-inch diameter(0001)oriented(c−face)sapphire substrate,which consists of an approximately 2-µm−thick gan template and a five-period layer consisting of a 4.9-nm-thick In0.18Ga0.82N well layer and a gan barrier *** surface morphology of the MQW structures is observed by an atomic force microscope(AFM),which indicates the presence of islands of several tens of nanometers in height on the *** high resolution x−ray diffraction(XRD)θ/2θscan is carried out on the symmetric(0002)of the Ingan/gan MQW *** least four order satellite peaks presented in the XRD spectrum indicate that the thickness and alloy compositions of the individual quantum wells are repeatable throughout the active *** the 364 nm gan band edge emission,two main emissions of blue and amber light from these MQWs are found,which possibly originate from the carrier recombinations in the Ingan/gan QWs and Ingan quasi-quantum dots embedded in the QWs.

Using Quantile Regression Approach to Analyze Price Movements of Agricultural Products in China

This paper studies how the price movements of pork,chicken and egg respond to those of related cost factors in short terms in Chinese *** employ a linear quantile approach not only to explore potential data heteroscedasticity but also to generate confidence bands for the purpose of price stability *** then evaluate our models by comparing the prediction intervals generated from the quantile regression models with in-sample and out-of-sample *** monthly data from January 2000 to October 2010,we observed these findings：（i） the price changes of cost factors asymmetrically and unequally influence those of the livestock across different quantiles;（ii） the performance of our models is robust and consistent for both in-sample and out-of-sample forecasts;（iii） the confidence intervals generated from 0.05th and 0.95th quantile regression models are good methods to forecast livestock price fluctuation.

Human-like Manipulation Planning for Articulated Manipulator

A new method based on human-likeness assessment and optimization concept to solve the problem of human-like ma- nipulation planning for articulated robot is proposed in this paper. This method intrinsically formulates the problem as a con- strained optimization problem in robot configuration space. The robot configuration space is divided into different subregions by human likeness assessment. A widely used strategy, Rapid Upper Limb Assessment （RULA） in applied ergonomics, is adopted here to evaluate the human likeness of robot configuration. A task compatibility measurement of the robot velocity transmission ratio along a specified direction is used as the target function for the optimization problem. Simple illustrative examples of this method applied to a two Degree of Freedom （DOF） planar robot that resembles the upper limb of a human are presented. Further applications to a humanoid industrial robot SDA10D are also presented. The reasonable planning results for these applications assert the effectiveness of our method.

Effects of recombinant human growth hormone on growth of human gastric carcinoma xenograft model in nude mice

AIM： To study effects of recombinant human growth hormone （rhGH） on growth of a human gastric carcinoma cell in vivo. METHODS： Experimental mice were divided into control group, rhGH group, oxaliplatin （L-OHP） group and rhGH＋L-OHP group. Cultured human gastric carcinoma cells BGC823 were inoculated into right axilla of nude mice and carcinoma xenograft model was established successfully. Inhibitory rate of xenograft tumor growth was estimated by measuring tumor volume; expression of proliferating cell nuclear antigen （PCNA）, Bax and Bcl-2 proteins of xenograft tumor was detected using immunohistochemical S-P method. RESULTS： Tumor growth inhibitory rate, the positive expression rate of PCNA, Bax and Bcl-2 were 49.3%, 58.2%, 65.2% and 59.2% in rhGH＋L-OHP group respectively; 46.6%, 62.5%, 59.7% and 64.7% in L-OHP group; 5.0%, 82.7%, 23.2% and 82.2% in rhGH group and 0, 77.8%, 23.5% and 80.3% in control group. There was significant difference between rhGH＋L-OHP group （or L-OHP group ） and control group or rhGH group （P 〈 0.05）, whereas there were no significant differences （P 〉 0.05） between L-OHP group and rhGH＋L-OHP group and between rhGH group and control group. CONCLUSION： rhGH does not accelerate the proliferation of human gastric cancer cell in vivo.
