N-acetylcysteine ameliorates erectile dysfunction in rats with hyperlipidemia by inhibiting oxidative stress and corpus cavernosum smooth muscle cells phenotypic modulation

Hyperlipidemia is a major risk factor for erectile dysfunction(ED).Oxidative stress and phenotypic modulation of corpus cavernosum smooth muscle cells(CcSMCs)are the key pathological factors of ED.N-acetylcysteine(NAC)can inhibit oxidative stress;however,whether NAc can alleviate pathological variations in the corpus cavernosum and promote erectile function recovery in hyperlipidemic rats remains unclear.A hyperlipidemia model was established using 27 eight-week-old male Sprague-Dawley(SD)rats fed a high-fat and high-cholesterol diet(hyperlipidemic rats,HR).In addition,9 male SD rats were fed a normal diet to serve as controls(NC).HR rats were divided into three groups:HR,HR+normal saline(NS),and HR+NAC(n=9 for each group;NS or NAc intraperitoneal injections were administered daily for 16 weeks).Subsequently,the lipid profiles,erectile function,oxidative stress,phenotypic modulation markers of ccsMCs,and tissue histology were *** experimental results revealed that erectile function was significantly impaired in the HR and HR+NS groups,but enhanced in the HR+NAC *** lipid levels,over-activated oxidative stress,and multi-organ lesions observed in the HR and HR+NS groups were improved in the HR+NAC ***,the HR group showed significant phenotypic modulation of CCSMCs,which was also inhibited by NAC *** report focuses on the therapeutic effect of NAc in restoring erectile function using a hyperlipidemic rat model by preventing CcSMC phenotypic modulationand attenuating oxidativestress.

Application of rare-earth element Y in refining impure copper

The effects of rare-earth element Y in refining impure copper were investigated in this paper. The composition, microstructures, and corrosion resistance properties of impure copper before and after refinement with Y were investigated using direct-reading spectrometry, inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry, optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and potentiodynamic polariza- tion measurements. The results show that the concentrations of impurities S, As, Sb, Bi, A1, Cd, and Se are remarkably decreased. Adding an appropriate amount of Y refines the microstructure and enhances the corrosion resistance properties of impure copper in HC1 solution via a purification effect. The formation enthalpies of compounds formed between Y and various impurity elements were calculated on the basis of Miedema＇s theory. The thermodynamic mechanisms of the refinement of impure copper by Y were also discussed.

Precise immobilization of metal single atoms into a porphyrinic metal-organic framework for an efficient alkene hydrosilylation

Alkene hydrosilylation is one of the most concise and atom-economical methods to synthesize organosilicon ***,we reported the precise immobilization of metal single atoms(M-SAs;M=Ru,Rh,Ir,Pd,Pt,and Au)into a porphyrinic metalorganic framework(MOF)of PCN-222(PCN=porous coordination network),and then applied the resultant MOF composites of M-SAs@PCN-222 to alkene *** solvent-free conditions,Pt-SAs@PCN-222 displayed an especially high catalytic efficiency with the turnover frequency up to 119 s−1 and the maximum turnover number of 906,250 at room *** and theoretical studies revealed that there existed strong interactions between Pt-SAs@PCN-222 and the substrates,which helped to condense the substrates in the cavities of the porous *** density functional theory calculations and molecular dynamics simulations disclosed that PCN-222 could transfer electrons to Pt-SAs to enhance the silane oxidative addition and drive the reaction to proceed smoothly via Chalk–Harrod pathway.

Chimera states in bipartite networks of FitzHugh-Nagumo oscillators

Chimera states consisting of spatially coherent and incoherent domains have been observed in differ- ent topologies such as rings, spheres, and complex networks. In this paper, we investigate bipartite networks of nonlocally coupled FitzHugh-Nagumo （FHN） oscillators in which the units are allocated evenly to two layers, and FHN units interact with each other only when they are in different lay- ers. We report the existence of chimera states in bipartite networks. Owing to the interplay between chimera states in the two layers, many types of chimera states such as in-phase chimera states, an- tiphase chimera states, and out-of-phase chimera states are classified. Stability diagrams of several typical chimera states in the coupling strength-coupling radius plane, which show strong multistability of chimera states, are explored.

Magnesium ion batteries(MIBs)are a potential field for the energy storage of the future but are restricted by insufficient rate capability and rapid capacity ***-sodium hybrid ion batteries(MSHBs)are an effective way to address these ***,we report a new type of MSHBs that use layered sodium vanadate((Na,Mn)V_(8)O_(20)·5H_(2)O,Mn-NVO)cathodes coupled with an organic 3,4,9,10-perylenetetracarboxylic diimide(PTCDI)anode in Mg^(2+)/Na^(+)hybrid *** electrochemical cycling,Mg^(2+)and Na^(+)co-participate in the cathode reactions,and the introduction of Na^(+)promotes the structural stability of the Mn-NVO cathode,as cleared by several ex-situ ***,the Mn-NVO cathode presents great specific capacity(249.9 mA h g^(−1)at 300 mA g^(−1))and cycling(1500 cycles at 1500 mA g^(−1))in the Mg^(2+)/Na^(+)hybrid ***,full battery displays long lifespan with 10,000 cycles at 1000 mA g^(−1).The rate performance and cycling stability of MSHBs have been improved by an economical and scalable method,and the mechanism for these improvements is discussed.

The gut microbiome interacts with the host to maintain body homeostasis,with gut microbial dysbiosis implicated in many ***,the underlying mechanisms of gut microbe regulation of host behavior and brain functions remain *** study aimed to elucidate the influence of gut microbiota on brain functions via post-translational modification mechanisms in the presence or absence of bacteria without any *** conducted succinylome analysis of hippocampal proteins in germ-free(GF)and specific pathogen-free(SPF)mice and metagenomic analysis of feces from SPF *** results were integrated with previously reported hippocampal acetylome and phosphorylome data from the same batch of *** bioinformatics analyses revealed 584 succinylation sites on 455 proteins,including 54 up-regulated succinylation sites on 91 proteins and 99 down-regulated sites on 51 proteins in the GF mice compared to the SPF *** constructed a panoramic map of gut microbiota-regulated succinylation,acetylation,and phosphorylation,and identified cross-talk and relative independence between the different types of post-translational modifications in modulating complicated intracellular *** correlation analysis indicated that 13 taxa,predominantly belonging to the Bacteroidetes phylum,were correlated with the biological functions of post-translational *** correlations between these taxa and succinylation and negative correlations between these taxa and acetylation were identified in the modulation of intracellular *** study highlights the hippocampal physiological changes induced by the absence of gut microbiota,and proteomic quantification of succinylation,phosphorylation,and acetylation,contributing to our understanding of the role of the gut microbiome in brain function and behavioral phenotypes.

Entangled chimeras in nonlocally coupled bicomponent phase oscillators:From synchronous to asynchronous chimeras

Chimera states,a symmetry-breaking spatiotemporal pattern in nonlocally coupled identical dynamical units,have been identified in various systems and generalized to coupled nonidentical *** has been shown that strong heterogeneity in the frequencies of nonidentical oscillators might be harmful to chimera *** this work,we consider a ring of nonlocally coupled bicomponent phase oscillators in which two types of oscillators are randomly distributed along the ring:some oscillators with *** w1 and others with *** this model,the heterogeneity in frequency is measured by frequency mismatch|w1-w2|between the oscillators in these two *** report that the nonlocally coupled bicomponent phase oscillators allow for chimera states no matter how large the frequency mismatch *** bicomponent oscillators are composed of two chimera states,one supported by oscillators with natural frequency wI and the other by oscillators with natural frequency *** two chimera states in two subpopulations are synchronized at weak frequency mismatch,in which the coberent oscillators in thern share similar mean phase velocity,and are desynchronized at large frequency mismatch,in which the coherent oscillators in different subpopulations have distinct mean phase *** synchronization-desynchronization transition between chimera states in these two subpopulations is observed with the increase in the frequency *** observed phenomena are theoretically analyzed by passing to the continuum limit and using the Ott-Antonsen approach.

lithium-sulfur battery is one of the most promising battery systems for industrialization due to its high theoretical specific capacity and high energy ***,the??shuttle effect??has restrained the advancement of lithium-sulfur *** this work,a gradient-structured nanofiber membrane with pure gelatin on one side and Super P-MoO2/MoS2-gelatin on the other side was created using a multi-step electrostatic spinning technique,which was applied for multi-functional separator for lithium-sulfur *** pure gelatin layer facing the anode side primarily homogenizes the lithium flux,whereas the Super P-MoO2/MoS2-gelatin layer facing the cathode side primarily adsorbs polysulfides by physical and chemical adsorption and enhancing polysulfide conversion *** findings demonstrate that even after 150 cycles at 0.2C,the lithium-sulfur battery can still sustain a discharge-specific capacity of 572.3 mAh·*** used with li||li symmetric batteries,it has a cycle life of more than 1200 *** commercialization of lithium-sulfur batteries is given a fresh idea by this straightforward preparation technique.

A survey on dynamic graph processing on GPUs: concepts, terminologies and systems

Graphs that are used to model real-world entities with vertices and relationships among entities with edges,have proven to be a powerful tool for describing real-world problems in *** most real-world scenarios,entities and their relationships are subject to constant *** that record such changes are called dynamic *** recent years,the widespread application scenarios of dynamic graphs have stimulated extensive research on dynamic graph processing systems that continuously ingest graph updates and produce up-to-date graph analytics *** the scale of dynamic graphs becomes larger,higher performance requirements are demanded to dynamic graph processing *** the massive parallel processing power and high memory bandwidth,GPUs become mainstream vehicles to accelerate dynamic graph processing ***-based dynamic graph processing systems mainly address two challenges:maintaining the graph data when updates occur(i.e.,graph updating)and producing analytics results in time(i.e.,graph computing).In this paper,we survey GPU-based dynamic graph processing systems and review their methods on addressing both graph updating and graph *** comprehensively discuss existing dynamic graph processing systems on GPUs,we first introduce the terminologies of dynamic graph processing and then develop a taxonomy to describe the methods employed for graph updating and graph *** addition,we discuss the challenges and future research directions of dynamic graph processing on GPUs.
